Review: I switched to Energy plus as an energy provider 5 months ago. I took the bait when they advertised gaining hilton honors points for my service. My rates raised after the first 3 months, and my bills have trippled in price. when I called customer service about reaching a resolution they told me I had a variable rate which could change at any time. I have 2x as much usage during the winter then the summer since I have electric heat. I explained to my service representative that in the last 5 yeras I have been in this home I have never had such an increase in my bill. he said by switching my rate now I could see a $100 difference in my bill? why wasnt I notified of this before? or why wasnt I kept at the same low rate? the rate on my bill is double of their competors. they were not willing to go back and credit me, since their is no way to credit energy. totally disgusted by this company and how I was treated. stay away from using this company it is nothing but a scam! my electric bill went from 140-180 max to $575!! ABSOLUTELY RIDICULIOUS! this company should be SHUT DOWN!Desired Settlement: I want to be credited back for my rate change for the last 3 months when my bill sky rocketed out of the normal. I knew it would be higher during this season but its NEVER been this out of control! I have my bills from the last 4 years with other energy companies to PROVE IT!

To Whom It May Concern,

Energy Plus spoke with [redacted] on March 1, 2013, regarding this complaint. We are pleased to report we have resolved her complaint.

During our discussion with [redacted], we reviewed the account terms with [redacted], specifically, that she enrolled her electricity account for a variable rate product. For your information, [redacted] enrolled through a paper application with Energy Plus on August 21, 2012. During the enrollment, she was presented with our Terms of Service in which she acknowledged accepting variable rate pricing. Following enrollment, she was also mailed Terms of Service that indicated she enrolled in a variable rate product and that our rate may be higher than her [redacted]’s rate. Finally, [redacted]’s account was enrolled in the Energy Plus Hilton Honors rewards program. As a result, she received certain awards benefits, including an initial bonus amount, in the course of her enrollment based on her electricity purchases. We did offer a courtesy credit to be issued to the customer in order to amicably resolve the complaint. Because the product she enrolled for did not include a cancellation fee or penalty, we feel that our resolution is appropriate. In addition, since our Terms of Service clearly indicates it is a variable rate product, while we are not obligated to offer a credit, we have done so in order to address her concerns. [redacted] said she considers this complaint resolved.

Please let us know if you need any additional information regarding this case.

Review: Energy Plus used a classic bate and switch tactics advertising low KWH rates for energy and then raising the rates to almost double the rate available through [redacted]. Some of these rate for my residence were between $250 to $300 more for one month, costing me hundreds of dollars extra a year. The first couple of months were reasonable but then went to very high rates. When I called [redacted], Energy Plus was charging $0.18 per KHW and ACE was charging $0. 11 per KWH. Upon checking the internet, there are many customer complaints about this company and there is already a class action lawsuit filed against them.Desired Settlement: This company should be reprimanded for this behavior and be made to offer restitution to there customers for this disgraceful behavior.

Review: I requested cancellation of electric service with Energy Plus after I noticed that the rate is was paying per Kwh was more than double the rate charged by [redacted]. Shame on me for not noticing this beforehand as I was overpaying for over one year. My estimate in over payment is about $3,500.

When I contact the company , they confirmed cancellation of service and said they would switch me back to [redacted] but that it would take 2 billing cycles to complete the change. That will probably cost me an addition $250 in overpayments for service.

I want Energy Plus to change over the service immediately to avoid further overpayments.Desired Settlement: Change service immediately.

Review: I was approached by a gentleman working for Energy Plus Holdings LLC. with the promise of a reduced bill. He swore I would save hundreds a year! The first few months, after I switched, was normal with no significant change in the bill. But then all of the sudden we started noticing that are bill had been steadily increasing each month. Then came today when I opened my bill and almost fainted when I saw that my bill is 2 times what it was before I switched to Energy Plus Holdings LLC. I was told I would save hundreds a year but so far I have paid more than usual?! I want the savings I was promised at the rates I was promised. I also want to switch back to actually save money. It's not right to lie to people, Americans, hardworking middle-class Americans, about saving money on a necessity in these trying economic times. Shame on you!Desired Settlement: A lowered bill or out of agreement.

Response:

To Whom It May Concern,

Review: My electric bill has been going up tremendously while our usage has not changed. Our electric bill was higher than ever in our lives this month and last month was the second highest ever. We found that we were having a hard time keeping up with our bill since it has grown out of control. We called PECO today to see whey our bill has been so high lately and they told us that Energy Plus has risen our rate to 19.4 cents per kw. In comparison PECO is 8 cents per kw. The rate that I agreed to was less than half the 19.4 that Energy Plus is now charging. I never signed a contract nor did I agree to this rate increase. I will also be contacting the Attorney General to have this company investigated. I expect to be reimbursed for this increase since the day they increased it. This company is a consumer fraud offender and should be prosecuted and shut down. I have seen there is a consumer attorney putting together names for a class action lawsuit which I will participate in this as well as contact my own attorney if this is not resolved immediately. How can you rate this company A+? There are complaints all over the internet regarding the same scam this company is doing to many other people. Revdex.com has hundreds of complaints about them but still an A+?Desired Settlement: I want my bills to be reviewed and all funds returned to me that I have paid in excess of what I agreed in the initial contract. Otherwise I will be contacting the Attorney General and my personal lawyer. I will not let this company get away with the consumer fraud they are committing.

Response:

Review: I have been a customer in Energy Plus Holding Company for a long time. Recently I realized that they charged me at a much higher price than other electricity providers. The standard rate is around 0.10 per unit. Energy Plus Holding Company charges me from 0.16 per unit to 0.23 per unit. So I decided to switch electricity providers. However, it will take two months to make the switch. During the final two months, this company charges me at a retaliating/discriminatory rate. My commodity charges went from 0.14 to 0.22. I am furious about this company's deceptive behavior to the customers.Desired Settlement: The company should refund me the extra money they charged me. In the advertisement, they mentioned that they will offer competitive rate. Furthermore, when I informed them that I want to terminate my service, they started charging me retaliating rate. In addition, although I understand the commodity charges vary, they need to provide the explanation and full disclosure regarding why the electricity commodity charge hiked while the market electricity commodity charge remains the same.

Review: They are an electricity provider through [redacted]. Starting in January they doubled the electricity price and they don't return calls and I keep trying to change suppliers and I am still paying them 19.4 cents per kwh, where [redacted]'s price to compare is 8.77 cents. If you [redacted] them, lots of people are complaining. Even now that the heavy winter electric demand is over, they are still charging 19.4 cents.Desired Settlement: They should refund half of the electric charge.

Review: Today two Sales Reps from Energy Plus were knocking at every door in our neighbourhood.

I told first one that we are not interested in their service. Two hours later another one knocked in our door with the same offer.

Both representatives were extremely rude and annoying.

Even though I kept telling them that I'm not interested and happy with my current service - both of them were very persistent and intimidating.

They keep requesting our [redacted] bill, they kept telling me about 'qualification' for savings.

They threatened me with placing my name and address in some kind of 'disqualification' list.Desired Settlement: Stop contacting me. Apologies from Sales Manager.

Review: Electricity discount provider advertises and sells 3 month fixed contract at price lower than [redacted]. KNOWING THAT AFTER THE 3 rd month the price increases to double the come on price. You don't know it until you get your electricity bill. This is a complete scam. Then your utility can't change you back until 2 weeks after you find the mistake. Response:

To Whom It May Concern,

Upon receiving [redacted]’s complaint on July 23, 2014, we called and

spoke to him to address his concerns. The following outlines [redacted]’s enrollment and account status with Energy Plus.

[redacted] enrolled his account

in person with Energy Plus on December 12, 2013. During the enrollment, [redacted] was

presented with all required disclosures including the fact that our product was

for a 3 month promotional variable supply price. Following enrollment, [redacted] was mailed a

copy of the Terms of Service for his electricity account which additionally

outlined the variable supply rate including that it may be higher than his

local utility company. Finally, [redacted]’s account was enrolled in the

Energy Plus US Airways program. As a result, he received certain award

benefits, including an initial bonus amount, in the course of his enrollment

based on his electricity purchases.

Prior to receiving this complaint, an Energy Plus representative spoke to [redacted] on July 22, 2014, regarding his supply rates. During our discussion, we reviewed the

account and the supply rates charged.

Also during our discussion, as a show of good will, we agreed to issue a

courtesy credit in the form of a check. We believe this resolution was

fair, since our Terms of Service clearly indicate that our program was for a

variable supply price. While we were not obligated to offer a credit, we

did so in order to amicably resolve his complaint. [redacted] did not

accept this credit. Upon receiving this

complaint, Energy Plus spoke to [redacted] again on July 25, 2014, regarding

his continued concerns. At that time, we

again offered another courtesy credit which [redacted] accepted. [redacted] stated his complaint has been

resolved. Energy Plus considers this

matter closed. Please let me know if you need any additional information

regarding this complaint

Review: My electric bill has been double than usual for more months than I can count. I am sure I should have checked sooner and that it was my responsibility to do so, but I assumed the price of electricity had gone up. When the salesman came to my door almost 2 years ago he assured me that I would be getting the best prices and would even get cash back and there was no contract. Come to find out when I looked into this last week, I have been being charged more than double than would I would have been charged if I would have stayed with [redacted] Electric. I feel that I was totally taken advantge of. Not sure how a company can do this to innocent people and sleep at night. I know I had a choice. I just wish I didn't make this one and wish I would have looked into this sooner. Preying on people that don't truly understand the choice program.Desired Settlement: I think that if they can prove their rates were competitive with other companies and/or [redacted] Electric, then shame on me. If not, I should be refunded the amount of money I have been completely overcharged over the last 20 months.

Business

Response:

To Whom it May Concern,

Review: I signed up with Energy Plus as my new electricity supplier shortly after deregulation They advertised a variable rate that was just slightly lower than my [redacted] rate to compare and offered a airline mileage bonus for signing up. They were clearly registered with the Revdex.com so I mistakenly assumed that they functioned as an ethical company and didn't do any further research.

In the following months I noticed that my bills rose but we had been told to expect that when deregulation took place. I'm ashamed to say that I have only NOW realized by reading the small print on my electricity bill that Energy Plus almost doubled my electricity rate just two months after I signed up without any notification. It has remained at almost double [redacted]'s rate to compare since--costing me around $1500 more for electricity than I expected when I signed up.

I have lodged a complaint with the PA Utility Commission who were very sympathetic but said they are not allowed to regulate alternate electricity suppliers. I am left wondering how a business with an A rating from Revdex.com could double their introductory price without notification and seemingly without any outside market influences--as it has continued to be double [redacted]'s rate.Desired Settlement: I have spent more than $1500 extra on my electricity from Energy Plus over the last two years because of their bait and switch tactics. I would like to see the following:

1. They refund at least a portion of the money they overcharged.

2. They be required to keep rates in a range consistent with the current market and other suppliers.

3. They be required to personally notify customers when a rate hike exceeds 10%.

4. They lose their 'seal of approval' from the Revdex.com unless they can demonstrate ethical market practices.

I do realize that I signed for a variable rate--but I did so on the assumption that a Revdex.com rated business was an ethical one. As I'm sure you can tell, I am EXTREMELY disillusioned.

An acceptable outcome would not be a cancellation of my service. I have done that already--I feel that a great deal more is in order.

Review: We selected Energy Plus as our electrical supplier. We understood that the rate would be variable after the initial term of the contract. When the contract expired we did not receive anything from Energy plus, either via u.s. mail or via e-mail, of what the current charges would be. By the time we figured out that the increase was more than double what we had been paying (and double what everyone else in the industry was charging by going as high as 15.9 cents from 6.9 cents) we had more than double our monthly electric bill from [redacted]. This just doesn't seem to be legal to increase by more than two times what we were paying without notification of this to us.Desired Settlement: We would like a refund of the payments made to Energy Plus in excess of what the average current rate would have been (less than 1/2 of what we paid).

Review: I chose Energy Plus Holdings LLC to supply my electricity because they promised lower rates than my current supplier. Their charges have gradually increased. I had been paying between $137 and $157 monthly for electricity with the original supplier and last month's bill with Energy Plus was $185. This month's bill is $211.48.

I have only been with this company 5 or 6 months and the charges have increased 25%. I had been traveling from December 18, 2012 thru January 9, 2013

and my bill should have been lower because no one was living in my residence.Desired Settlement: I am requesting a refund of $82 combining the extra charges for March and April as well as cancellation of the contract with no penalty.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

I AM WAITING TO RECEIVE THE REFUND CHECK. THE VARIABLE RATE THAT WAS GIVEN BECAME ONE THIRD HIGHER THAN THE INITIAL RATE

Don't fall for their offer to get 10,000 United Miles for switching energy providers as they will more than double your energy prices a few months after switching. You will pay a hefty fee for the miles through your Comed bill and even when you cancel, they will get you for one or two more months since it takes 1-2 billing cycles to cancel. I'm not sure how this company has an A+ rating on Revdex.com. They did not disclose the fact that my rate would become variable after a short period of time. I wouldn't recommend this energy supplier to anyone, even if they gave me 50,000 bonus miles since you will pay for it in the long run.

Review: I transferred my energy carrier last year from [redacted] to Energy Plus. At the time, they offered approx. .08 per KwH for energy. Beginning in December of last year they started to raise my rate by .03 per KwH EVERY SINGLE MONTH going forward. Conveniently doing so in time for summer air conditioning bills, this past month, my bill went from the typical summer bill of about $260 to over $500. Upon close inspection of my bill, I noted they now charge me .21399 per KwH, a 163% increase in the last 7 months. I called and was told I had a variable rate plan, which was never explained to me when I switched carriers. Under this plan they are permitted to raise the rate by a maximum of .03 per months (with no cap) which they did every month for several months just before the summer.

I am switching service immediately and wanted to report what I feel is consumer fraud.Desired Settlement: Having no proof I was ever notified of this so called variable rate allowing Energy Plus to raise my rates continuously, and with no cap, I feel I was defrauded and will not pay this bill I received.

I also feel this complaint should be forwarded to the Board of Utilities for NJ to better police these kinds of business paractices

Review: Energy Plus is a supplier of electricity to the New Jersey market. Energy Plus advertised that their pricing is competitive in the industry. For the first few months of service the price was as agreed to at the time I agreed to switch suppliers. Then the price jumped 30% in September, then another 27% for October, and then almost another 20% in November, and flat in December

That's a 90% increase from the August pricing. This was done without warning and definitely without cause as gas and oil prices have been steady or declining during this time frame. I believe they employ deceptive business practices and are in fact a scam operation.Desired Settlement: Honor the pricing I was originally paying until my new supplier takes over. That's $402.43 thru November 27, 2013
