We have contracted with First American Home Buyers Protection for several years More often than not, we are frustrated by the repair companies that First American contracts with They tend to be the bottom of the barrel companies as is evident when you look the companies up on yelp and see all the many poor reviews None-the-less, as the consumer you have no control over who First American chooses to send to our home Further, unfortunately, First American does not seem to advocate for high standards of service It becomes very clear that the repair company is working for First American and not the home owner These companies don't feel any need to get their work completed in a timely manner and First American does not advocate for its consumer A simple repair to an important item will likely take weeks rather than a day And First American doesn't care I would not recommend contracting with this company Current Example: Our Maytag Washing Machine stops working We call First American to schedule a repair on November 24th Someone comes to our house, hardly speaks English, tells us he needs parts but doesn't tell us what parts or write it up on a work order, and asks for $and leaves We had to call the company, [redacted] , only to be told it would take to business days to receive the part only AFTER First American approves it, which could add several more days Note: This is a Maytag Washer - Sears- and we live in Los Angeles, not the middle of Alaska If I had ordered the part online as an un-contracted consumer I would have received it in to business days But instead, I would have driven around the block to a Sears Parts Store and picked it up the same day! Which is what [redacted] could have done but they don't care because they are not beholden to me, the home owner they work for First American and First American doesn't care about its customer So, we have to call and call to see when they might deign to show back up Finally, today, days later, they tell us that they expect the part on December 9th and can schedule to come back on December 10th Days to repair a very standard washing machine and First American is not doing anything to require the repair company to get the job done in a timely manner First American does not care about its customer, and as their customer, we are stuck using whichever company First American chooses In most cases, I have found, that these are the least reputable repair companies in the area

This is the worst company that I have ever had to deal with I get better service from [redacted] There has not been one single interaction that I have had with them that I haven't left feeling frustrated or cheated I had a service tech out to fix a dishwasher problem They had to order a part, and so they had to come back more than a week later They fixed the problem Then, just days later, the part failed, due to a bad fuse First American refused to honor the service company's parts and labor warranty (days), and of course made me pay for another service visit The hold times are long, the customer service people are obviously trained to obstruct the customers, and not to help them, and there is no recourse to getting claims resolved when there is a problem Just more policy, more obstruction, and no service

We recently had some issues for our washing machineFirst American dispatched a service rep (from [redacted] who basically made a bad repair which resulted in a broken washing machine months later We then had more visits from another service contractorThe first was to diagnose the problem, 2nd was supposed to fix the problem but he showed up without the right parts and the 3rd was actually to fix the problem We've had a pretty [redacted] experience with First American where they (a) subcontracted the service to someone who was incompetent, (b) took a number of weeks to find & send the new parts, which when you have a family is a significant inconvenience and (c) then charged us for each service visit All in all I wouldn't recommend First American and plan to look elsewhere for home warranty protection

First off, the only reason I have this warranty is because the seller paid for itI I had asked for this myself, I would be beyond furious They are the absolute WORST! Originally I had a problem back in September where they sent someone to fix my AC, the guy that arrived was extremely unprofessionalI ended up having to pay out of pocket close to $to get my AC unit "remodeled" in order for it to work properly and of course that was not covered by the insuranceSo fast forward to now when it's extremely cold and I am in need of heatWaited weeks for a contractor to come to my residence after having to call the company twiceAnd when they finally arrived, they were not even able to fix the problem because some parts were missing and told us they would be coming back on friday (they came on a wednesday)To my surprise, no one comes on Friday like they had informed us, and when we called the contractor, they told us that they couldn't fix it because the previously contractor only fixed the AC and disconnected the heatAll the while, no one has bothered to follow up with me and just claimed that the issue was resolvedI am still sitting here freezing in my own home because this company is completely incompetentI have been on hold on separate time today, just so I could be disconnected after waiting for minutes EACH TIME Needless to say, I will NOT be renewing this crappy serviceI WOULD NEVER recommend this to anyone, not even my worst enemy If I could get a negative rating, believe me, I would

We have cracked main stack that disable the only bathroom we have in our houseFirst American Home Buyer Protection sent an HVAC company ( [redacted] Mechanical, Inc| HVAC ) to solve our plumbing issues and everything went wrong with it The contractor's technicians showed no skills or knowledge about plumbing and missed many appointment for many dayAfter of waiting and re scheduling our appointments, the contracting company came out at pm, hour pass our original appointmentThey put a snake trough the toilet exposed pipe that actually shatter the main stack furtherthen, they left because they needed the warranty company's authorization to fix the problem FAHBP denied the authorization, claiming that the reason our pipe broke on May 24th was that the pipe froze, which obviously is not cover by the policyFrozen pipe in May, really? we called [redacted] for a professional opinion and they confirmed that [redacted] the diagnosis was wrongThey explained that the pipes w

I have had a policy with this company for the years that I've owned my home I've only made a few claims in that time Twice for my garage door opener, once for a bathroom stoppage, and once for a dishwasher The last time was for my hot water heater which the pilot had blown out either due to winds or a bad gas valve I called FHA and they referred my claim to Four Element Plumbing They came out the next day The guys were nice enough They lit the pilot, and at my request, even showed me hot to light it just in case That night as I ran my bath water - no hot water I called FHA and was told by a supervisor that me being without water was not deemed an emergency I therefore had to take off more time from work for someone to come out the next day They sent a team of out this time (just for a hot water heater) I attempted to tell them I thought it was more than just the pilot, which was met with dirty glares and rude comments They said it needed to go through the regular cycle and they were leaving for lunch and would return Over hours later, the supervisor returned alone I inquired as to the timeliness of his lunch at which he told me it was his time! I told him he was a jerk He left without finishing the job I called FHA to report it and requested my $copay back I was told that he could not give me my copay and could not terminate my service either I terminated my service via email today When you call all the representatives are foreigners and English is not their first language The wait times are lengthy I was told I would be on hold for minutes to speak to a supervisor I would not recommend FHA to anyone They send out substandard vendors Lousy customer service

This terrible company sent out an unlicensed contractor to repair my in-laws leaking roof After ripping them off for an additional $in bogus repairs, the roof leaked worse than before STAY AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS!!!!

Do not use this outfit! The damage warranty does not cover actual damage! The warranty claims to cover a broken pipe in a wall (which I had) but they only cover the cost of replacing the cent copper elbow that brokeNone of the water damage was covered in the fine printIt took three months, ,hour long, phone calls and finally hiring my own contractor to get this finishedI am out $for the damage they do not coverThis kind of unseen problem is exactly why you buy a warranty.Who'd pay $for insurance to make sure a $garbage disposal doesn't go badIts for serious damage that may occur after you buy the house The contractor who worked for them gave a report of the damage in order to quickly put me offSubsequent inspections by my own licensed people revealed the truthI was seriously irritated but, get this, the fine print says they don't cover my personal stress over their worthless insurance coverage Run from Worst American Home Buyers!

I submitted a claim to First American Home Buyers a few days ago for a broken heater over the phone During the process, they have never called me back as promised Any action taken I've had to do it all myself The first contractor they assigned me, I called and they were not even in my area I called again and the rep stated they would get me another contractor within a few hours After hours, I called them back and spoke with another rep who refused to help me get a contractor while on the phone with him After I asked to speak to his manager, he hung up on me I called back and asked for another contractor or use a third party to repair the device, this was declined and because it was after hours they could not make another appointment They said they would call in the morning They never called in the morning I called at about 9:30am, and I was told that no contractors would be available until the next week So they said I could be escalated to be able to use a third party for the repairs They said they would call me back 2-hours and a half hours later I called them They now say they will not have any resolution until tomorrow This is on top of the rudeness and having a rep talk over you and the general inhuman attitude towards customers I would stay away from this company at all costs

Do NOT waste your time with this companyOn my first claim with them, the technician came out that day, assessed the problem, and sent the report to the company right in front of meTwo weeks later, I still hadn't heard back from the companyI left a message on my account page asking for an update on my repair request and got an auto-reply from the company saying I would be contacted in 24-hoursAfter three days, I called the customer service line and left my number for a callback, since the wait time was minutes; they never called backFinally, I waited on the phone for over an hour to speak to a representative, who told me that the technician never completed the report to them, that the connection was lost during his report, and after trying to call him back once, they didn't attempt to contact him againI asked why they didn't respond to my request for information so they could explain what had happened, or send out a new technician, since they were aware that my problem had not been resolved, instead of marking my request "resolved" on my account pageThe representative became terse with me and said they were just going to start over againThis is almost three weeks after the technician's visit This is some of the WORST customer service I have ever experienced, especially from a company whose entire business is serviceIf they won't speak to the customer, represent the customer's needs, and address customer concerns, what service are they providing?! First American Home Warranty takes your money, wastes your time, and doesn't fulfill their contract

Save your money! This warranty was purchased by the Seller and transferred to me upon closingI've called this company twice for issues since I bought the house and each time it took them days to get someone to my home1) Was told the 'electronics board' in my furnace/AC needed to be replaced at a cost of over $and was not covered by the warrantyCalled in a second opinion, they said the door to the unit needed to be shut before electrical contacts could be madeDid not replace the board and it's worked fine since then2) Faucet in kitchen (high arc Moen brand $200+) completely went out and needs replacedThey will replace with basic cheap chrome faucet or give me $- which covers my cost of the service tech to show up to tell me I needed a new faucet (duh)They will not install any faucet I buy independentlyReturned their phone call and was on hold for minutes while they called "other departments" to resolve the issue, which I still don't have an answer forStill don't have a faucet, reimbursement, or water in my kitchen sink (it's been days)Call your own repair person, get an honest assessment, and pay out of pocketYou'll be ahead in the long run

I had a very negative experience with the First American policyFirst American requires that you use their service providers when you have a problemI had a Hot Water heater go out and when their service provider came out they started telling me that they had to add a pressure tank to the replaced unit or the warranty would be voidUNTRUEThey also said that I really needed a pressure regulator added to the lineAlso unneededThey were going to replace a to year warranty water heater with the cheapest shortest warranty available I asked for a cash out option so that I could have my own plumber do the repair and did receive what I believe was a very low offer which I accepted because I could not see dealing with their provider any moreJust be aware that the warranty has lots of strings attached BTW My property was without water for a week while I waited for their cash out offerLucky that I didn't have a tenant at the time

I suggest you DONT buy this policy...my plumbing problem was covered and THEY WOULD NOT PAY...they're a typical insurance company: they want you to pay the premium, but if you make a claim forget it!! and their customer service boiler room is in philipines staffed by people who are hard to understand and obviously fear for their jobs if they do anything but say NO NO NO to any claims, etc so I paid $for the policy, and then $for the plumbing problem save your money---dont buy!!

On Monday on September 12, I called First American Home Buyers Protection to report my Water Heater was not heating the Water and I am not getting any hot waterThey send a message to American Plumbing and Drain Cleaning to Service my Water HeaterFAHW also provided me with the name of the Company who is going to service my callThey came on the following Wednesday to look at it, on Thursday the came back after having to order a partThe Water Heater Worked for a few hours and did not work againI called all day Saturday, spoke with everyone I can with FAWHOn Saturday afternoon I received a call from American Plumbing and Drain CleaningThey told me the water heater needs to be replacedI provided the information from the existing water heater and they informed me that they are going to start the paper work to get a new water heater from FAHWApparently FAWH has to sip the water heater and then someone has to be home to let the person inFor the week my son and my wife has to take off from work to let the repair person inI am very curious how this is all going to turn outThey said this is not a priorityStay tuned

I review online frequently (Amazon, EBay sellers, Yelp, Angie's List, etc), and I believe in corporate accountability and consumer rightsThis review is, in what I would estimate to be ten years of reviews, only my second one star ratingPlease, do not support this companyYou will endure horrible customer service, exceptionally long hold times (15-min with avg over ten calls over 30min to speak to someone), unjustified claim denials, violation of contractually bound response times (esp in urgent cases like broken sump pumps with flooded basements or broken AC with high ambient temperatures)But, most importantly, you will be bound to a single exceptionally low quality (low rated) local contractorIn our city, we have campaigned through the local realtors to ban this company and discourage all clients from considering these contracts

My dryer was not heating I called on December The only contractor they employ is Sears Sears couldn't get me on the schedule for two weeks (the 19th)! When I called First American they said they would waive the $copay (which has gone up every year for the past eight.) I have been carting washed wet heavy laundry somewhere else to dry ( and pay to dry) for two weeks! Finally Sears was to come today between and When they didn't arrive I called Sears, and it was pushed to between 2-3, then 3-and then finally he arrived at 5:30pm He didn't have the part on his truck because Sears sucks and they don't have a warehouse anymore He had to order the part (when he could have picked it up locally) and said it would take 7-days (and with Christmas it will be longer) I am now on the schedule for the 30th! This is NOT THE WARRANTY I SIGNED UP FOR IF ANYONE CAN RECOMMEND ANOTHER WARRANTY COMPANY, PLEASE DO! I had to pay the $copay or he said he would cancel the order I had a check ready (four months ago I had them here for the dryer not heating and they took a check) but this time he would only take a credit card and cash is never accepted This wait time is totally unacceptable

they do not get people to your home in a timely manner, I have not been paid for a claim that is over months old, contacting anyone is an absolute nightmare, you will not get help from this company, too many excuses don't waste your time, money or sanity on this company shop other home warranties

I purchased a policy from First American Home Warranty less than a month ago before closing on our homeLast week, the refrigerator stopped working so I called to file a claim (Some South American country) After holding for almost minutes, I finally got someoneFirst they said it wasn't covered, but then agreed it wasThey said a contractor would contact me within hoursAs of this email, no contact at allI called back this morning (South America again) and they told me the file was closed per my requestThis is an absolute joke, and in reading other complaints, it seems this is what they do in the hopes you go awayI emailed the CEO Jeff [redacted] and encourage others to do the same [redacted] @firstam.com

I purchased a new homeafter moving in to the home the house was vandalizedNot only that the previous bout this home warranty protection that supposed to repair plumbingThe plumbers came to the house tightened the taps that led to the washerand dont know what they did in the bath tub but they said it was fixed and they leftOne minute after them leaving the property the water started leaking againcalled the company they said we have to cut into the wall and the home warranty will not pay to have that repairedI called FAHBPC and asked why they would not cover they said that is not in the warrantyI am stuck with them for one yearthe other problem is their customer service is ridiculous, they talk down to you and tell you to listen and they will not stop to hear what you have to say as a customer
