Howaboutwe.com Reviews (124)

When my boyfriend and I originally signed up for HowAboutWe before the broke off the couples portion to You&Me, we were satisfied. The dates were creative and unique and definitely helped us experience New York to the fullest. Once the site broke out into two basically different companies they no longer provided satisfactory customer service to the You&Me portion. Two times I had to ask for a refund as the date was invalid due to the vendor not showing up on Governor's Island. and the second one was a refund for them taking so long to respond. I have since suspended my membership as I moved away from New York and it is no longer convenient. Before I suspended my boyfriend purchased an at home date that was supposed to be mailed to us. He got charged but never received the package. After months passing by and numerous emails to their customer service we have received no answer. The thought of what they were trying to accomplish is a cool idea but extremely poorly executed and broke off into two separate companies way too prematurely. would not recommend this one bit. very disappointed in this company.

Review: There was to be a one time only fee. This company has taken two more monthly patments from me. I had to cancel my debit card to stop them. I also had a man try and extort money from me on this site. They promised a money back gaurantee. I would like my 45.00 dollars back.Desired Settlement: 45.00 in my pocket. And for this site to be taken down. Their phone number only works when they take money from your bank account.

Review: I have tried to contact this business over and over again , via email and calling them and leaving a message 3 times. My account was was not accessible after 3 days. they said to change my pass word ans I was still not able to get into my account to cncell the subcription . I have left message and no one has gotten back to me. this has been about a week now. This company states their business hours on their recording 10 am to 6 pm call during those hours, no one is avail to speak to me. I just want my account closed and my money refunded. There is no one to speak to during business hour or no other time. Please help me.

Hi [redacted],

I apologize if you feel it was difficult to get in touch with us. I'm also very sorry to hear you had difficulty accessing your account. We responded to you via email when you initially wrote in, and refunded your $28.00 membership fee on 07/**. By now, you should have seen this amount reflected in your account. We also included a confirmation number in another email in the case you wanted to follow up with your bank.

I'd be more than happy to assist you if you still need help accessing your profile, or if you have any other questions or concerns. The best way to get in contact with us is to email [redacted]

Again, I apologize for any difficulty, and please let us know how else we can help.

Best,

Review: We signed up for HowAboutWe for Couples membership last year. When we signed up, it was clearly stated that this membership can be put on hold at any time.

Despite multiple unanswered emails to the management requesting to stop charging the credit card and cancel our membership, as well as attempts to dispute credit card charges, we are still being charged $18 on a monthly basis. This is a scam and a false advertisement, as this is not what was communicated to us during the sale of this service, and there is no way for me to stop these charges. The burden is on us to find a way to cancel the membership when there is clearly no way to do so. The management simply ingnores these requests, and in the meanwhile stealing our money.

The website states, in response to multuple customer complains, that an automatic way to cancel mambership is coming soon, and this was in August'13.Desired Settlement: I have been charged $18 monthly since December '13, when I submitted the first of the multiple requests to cancel our membership. I request to have at least the monthly fees refunded going back to December '13 (7x$18=$126) to the present time, as well as for any additional monthly charges to taken place while this dispute is being resolved.

Response:

Hi there,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We did not receive the customer's initial enquiries due to an email issue; the customer was not emailing the customer support address listed on the site. Once we received the emails, we responded promptly and have refunded the user in full.

Thanks,

Review: I deleted my account several months ago, but my information is still displayed on their websites and is still searchable on google. I contacted them a month ago, through the contact information on the their posted website and received no response. I do not use this service, but my information is still on their website like I do. If I close my account my data should no longer be available searchable. Also, I never signed up for [redacted] personals, but all my data was forwarded to this site. The links showing data from my deleted account can be found below. [redacted]Desired Settlement: Delete my data from your servers.

Review: I bought one deal from this company, and have seen two $18 charges on my credit card for a membership that I did NOT sign up for. When I tried to log into the account to see what was going on, the password didn't work. I requested a new password but didn't receive any response. I also lodged a complaint with the company through their automated system.

There was nothing on the site that asked me to sign up for or approve a membership and I would like my money back. There is no phone number on this site to contact.

This is clearly a fraudulent charge and I would like my money back ASAP.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of $36 and to be taken out of their system, and would also like access to the deal I did purchase!

Hi [redacted],

Review: I signed up for this service to activate one date. I entered my credit card info and it was not made clear that it would be a recurring charge. Once I figured out it was recurring, I deactivated my account and emailed multiple email addresses from their site to have my account cancelled. 4 months later and I am still being charged. I have contacted my credit card company and had some of the charges reversed, but I still cannot get ahold of anyone from How About We.Desired Settlement: Refund the money to my account that has been taken out.

Sincerely,

Review: I purchased a book, "Modern Dating", and advertized with the book was "Enjoy three free months". To get the free deal you are supposed to go to the "upgrade page", which I did. It had a place to enter credit card information, which they say is required to access "Promotional Offer", so I enter it, and then charged $59.97, and never given the chance to enter the access code to receive my three months.Desired Settlement: I desire the advertized first three months free, and a refund of $59.97

Response:

Dear [redacted],

Thank you for your patience and for bringing this to our attention. I’m very sorry your book promo code had an error and you were charged. We responded to your email on 7/** regarding your refund, and I’m confirming that we’ve refunded the $59.97 charge in full and applied your free subscription, and applied an additional free month to your subscription for any inconvenience.

Review: Site continued billing me for months after I terminated the service, then blamed their 3rd party payment processor.

Smells like a scam to me!Desired Settlement: Id like my $80 back. If I cant get it back, Id like them to at least not scam other people.

Review: On June *, 2015, This [redacted]. dba HowAboutWe.com charged me a subscription fee of $19.99; this was a regular monthly charge made on the [redacted] of each month to which I agreed since November 2014 through a monthly subscription to their service through [redacted] for their app which I had installed on my cell phone. The $19.99 was drawn through my checking account via [redacted]. Then on June **, 2015, I noticed a $66 withdrawal from my checking account from Howaboutwe.com. I had not authorized this withdrawal, and received no explanation via email for why this fee would be charged. I emailed the business on June **, 2015 to ask for an explanation and a refund. I received a standard reply saying that someone would get back to me. That was 9 days ago (6 business days). I called their phone number. A recording there says you must email them to contact the business, and that all emails will receive a reply within 72 hours. Again, my first email was 6 business days ago. I have sent two follow up emails, but have not received any reply since the first standard email. I want a refund and an explanation of the $66 charge.Desired Settlement: The company charged me $66 for a subscription that I had not purchased or approved. I want them to return this amount. I have emailed them three times, and despite a phone message on their business phone that claims you will get a reply within 72 hours, it has been almost 7 business days without a response.

Review: I signed up for this service back in May. I thought this site had a really interesting idea when it came to a dating site, and I was even willing to pay for it when there are other sites that are free. I used it for less than a month with no luck. I was unsure if the technical part ever even worked because I never really got any response from other members. I figured I had wasted my money and would ride out the rest of my subscription, since I thought it was a one-time payment, and then my subscription would be up. I believed this to be a one-time payment since nothing clearly stated otherwise. Yet the other day, I saw that I was recently charged $24.00 from this site again since my first payment back in May. I thought this might be a mistake and went and checked their site and their FAQ and found that they have an auto-renewal practice "for your convenience," unless you opt out of it. Other subscriptions and memberships I've had in the past clearly state, when they collect your billing info, that if you don't cancel, they will continue to charge you, but this was not stated clearly anywhere when I signed up for this site, and I would not have wanted auto-renewal had it provided the option.

There are directions in the FAQ on how to opt out of auto-renewal, but when you follow the directions it gives the choice to deactivate the account or something along the lines of "never mind want to keep the account still." Nothing ever clearly states anything about auto-renewal. I selected "deactivate" since that is the only thing I can find to perhaps at least stop the payments. I would love to cancel the account completely, but cannot find how to cancel anywhere in the settings or in the FAQ. I tried contacting customer support via email since there is no number provided to call. I have written to them 3 times in the last week and still have not heard back, despite a message that pops up and says someone will get back to me shortly. I've also found out when looking for how to get a refund that this site has a 100% guarantee that if you don't find any dates that they will refund you. This sounds like an honest company with their a 100% guarantee, but you can't even get in contact with them to get billing issues sorted out!

They either have major technical issues that they need to sort out and/or they have terrible business practices which scams people out of their money. If they're really concerned with auto-renewal being available for people's convenience, they should clearly provide the option at time of payment and have people select it instead of having to go into their settings and figure it out.Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded a total of $48.00 for both my auto-renewal fee of $24.00, as well as my initial fee of $24, as promised by their 100% guarantee for those with a membership.

Sincerely,

Review: I canceled my service with HowAboutWe.com at the beginning of August 2014. Just after canceling, an authorize charge for $24 showed up on my credit card bill. I have attempted to contact the business 3 times via their e-mail form on the website, but I have not had any response (not even a response saying they received my request). I have searched for a phone number to call the company, but have had no success. There is not one clearly listed on the contact page.Desired Settlement: I would like How About We to refund me the cost they wrongly charged me ($24) plus punitive damages equivalent to the initial cost I paid for joining ($24) for my time, the failed hassle of trying to contact them, and for having to file this complaint.

Response:

Hi [redacted],

Thanks for contacting us, and letting us know about this. All accounts are set to auto-renew which is in our Terms of Use and is listed as a feature on the site. Your account was still active and set to renew which is why you were charged.

I'm sorry to hear you were not able to reach us. I've checked through our records and was not able to locate any emails from you connected to the email address we have on file. Our email is listed in our FAQ, and our phone number can be found in your billing statement.

I've refunded your $24 renewal charge, which will reflect in your account within 3-5 business days. I've also made sure your subscription has been canceled so you won't be billed again.

If, for some reason, you need to contact us in the future, you can email [redacted], and we'd be happy to help.

Thanks for your time with HowAboutWe.

Review: Signed up for their free service which allows you to submit ideas for other users to respond to. In order to see who has responded, you must upgrade to a paid account. After submitting an idea I was solicited with three emails saying three individuals were interested. After upgrading to continue with the service, it was revealed that no one had actually responded.Desired Settlement: Refund charges.

Sincerely,

Review: I am a paid member of howaboutwe.com and as part of the paid membership you are able to read and send emails to other members. however, unpaid users do not have the ability to read or respond to any messages that they receive unless they pay. I have realized that after a month of sending emails to several members, the vast majority of my emails are going unread. I have emailed the company three times now to ask, what is the point of me being a paid member and being able to write anyone on the website, if most of them can't read my messages? This company has not responded at all. I absolutely understand that they have not falsely advertised that fact that unpaid users can't message, but after finding out that the majority of their users are unpaid, I'd like an answer to my question of "What is the benefit of paying to communicate, when the people you are trying to reach are not allowed to receive the message?" I'd appreciate hearing about any response the Revdex.com receives. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Review: I cancelled my account, did not receive a confirmation, emailed twice for a confirmation, assumed it was cancelled because I could no longer access my account, and now, months later, checked my credit card statements only to see Howaboutwe has continued to charge me every month.Desired Settlement: I received a free trial in April, paid for May. I cancelled before my renewal date in June as per policy and was still charged for June and July. I would like June, July, AND May charges to refunded.

Hi [redacted],

Thanks for writing in. I've followed up with you via the email you sent to us. I apologize for any confusion; it appears that you had an account both with HowAboutWe for Couples and on our online dating site, HowAboutWe. While you cancelled your HowAboutWe Dating account via the site, that does not affect your HowAboutWe for Couples account. Since you attempted to cancel, we have refunded you for all charges that happened since your initial cancellation attempt. I apologize again for any confusion.

Best,

Review: I registered for one month of their service and did NOT choose to auto-renew. The company charged my credit card this month claiming that I wanted to auto-renew. There is no one available to contact in their company (no contact available on their website) to resolve billing issues. There is also no way to delete my credit card information from their website. As far as I know, they can and will charge me indefinitely for services that I am not using.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund for the charge that appears on my credit card statement for $21.00 for the service that I DID NOT agree to and DID NOT use for the upcoming month. I would like confirmation that my credit card information has been deleted from their website/business.

Response:

Thanks for reaching out about this. All accounts are set to auto-renew unless you opt out, which is in our Terms of Use upon signing up, and is listed as a feature on the site. I've gone ahead and refunded the $21.99 renewal charge, which will reflect in your account within five business days. Your subscription has already been canceled so you will not be billed again. Your information has also been removed from our system.

Review: I have attempted to contact this company multiple times to cancel my account, I have been ignored for over 2 months. All I want is to stop being charged. Also, my credit card attached to my account expired, and they continued to be able to charge my account with out my authorization on the new card. They have the worst customer service ever. I would not recommend this service to my worst enemy.Desired Settlement: Cancel my account, stop charging me monthly.

Review: I signed up for a one month account with you at the price of $34.99 in March 2013 (Feb [redacted]). And for some reason since march through today, they have been charging me $24.99 to my account every month since then. These charges are unauthorized and fraudulent. There was no "auto-renew" explicitly indicated during sign up and these are deceptive advertising practices. I deactivated my account before the month of March was over due to the fact that I met someone. And after checking my bank statements today & seeing these continued fraudulent charges, I go online to check my account on the dating site & it somehow has been reactivated. There have been $199.92 worth of unauthorized charges to my account from March (which I was charged for twice so reason) and November 2013. I never once received a receipt from this company for any single charge to me. All charges March [redacted]-Nov [redacted] for $24.99 are unauthorized. There are no phone numbers listed on the customer service page, so I have emailed and not yet received a response. Due to the fact that my recent research has indicated howaboutwe does this often, I am following suit with other customers and filing this complaint with the Revdex.com.Desired Settlement: I would like the $199.92 of unauthorized charges made to my account to be refunded in full and for this company to discontinue fraudulently charging my account. I would like them to change their business practices & indicate to people openly about the future charges that will be made to their account as other dating websites such as e-harmony do.
