Review: The web site Howaboutwe is advertised on the [redacted] site which is where I began my subscription. What is unique is the companies failure to provide easy access to cancel the subscription, deactivate the account or the removal of photos from their site.

I have emailed my concerns to [redacted] and while checking your site I discovered their past complaints of this companies failure to provide timely stops to debiting customer accounts. I would love to see a refund for the past two months and the business reprimanded for failure to provided obvious access to seniors who use their site.

It is obvious they count on the customer to forget the renewal feature allowing for monthly funds to be deducted for which they profit for months or years until the death of the consumer, of the card has been renewed.

This company is a predator company affiliated with [redacted], which has me questioning [redacted]’s commitment to its consumer. Either way I would appreciate your assistance as much as possible.

Thanks in advance

[redacted]Desired Settlement: I only want a three month refund of monies and for the company to beware of their sites lack of friendly customer use to deactivate, cancel or remove the photos from their site.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

[redacted] "The complaint I filed using the above ID number (ID [redacted]), has been resolved. I was able to deactivate my account after they responded not with a email reply but by sending me updated contacts. They sent two within the past week, were they have been none for the past two months. I was able to use their updated site to deactivate my account. Thanks for your assistance."

Review: How About we charges people to use their dating site. They explain that they charge in order to eliminate the shady characters. However, 95% of the men who have contacted me have fake profiles and fake photos and ARE shady characters. I almost got scammed by "[redacted]" but because I went to the FBI date scam site to find out what to watch out for, I didn't fall for the scam. That said, there are many women who WILL get sucked into the scam. I have kept notes on all the men who contacted me and I contacted Howaboutwe and reported the men and still they are on the site and nobody has gotten back to me. I've read reviews of this site by people who have been scammed out of thousands of dollars. Howaboutwe has no filtering system which could get rid of these scammers in a few minutes. I could tell immediately who the scammers were - just by their language, where they say they lived, and because they wanted to "continue the conversation by email or text." At that point, a system should be in place to warn the customers NOT to go offsite. Howaboutwe brings in enormous revenues at the expense of men and women who unwittingly fall for a person who is a [redacted] scammer.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund since Howaboutwe said they charge in order to keep the illegitimate people off the site. However, I have only gotten fake people who have contacted me and tried to scam me.

Review: I signed up for this dating website. Though I have one username and password, that information does not work across all devices as promised/advertised. I can only access the account via my desktop computer, not the apps on my phone or tablet. I told them about the issue. They acknowledged a problem. The problem has not be rectified. I inquired again about the problem some weeks later asking for a refund since their service/product did not work as advertised and they seemed to have no real explanation for the issue, nor did they offer any reassurance that the issue would be fixed in the future. Instead of contacting me or giving me a refund, they cancelled my account, promising a refund which has yet to materialize. Now I am locked out of my account, unable to pull off personal information and pictures without paying them AGAIN. Also, they send notifications all day about people looking at my profile and encouraging me to check out username [redacted], for example, but they have no search mechanism on their site for doing so. It's a real hack organization, from the functionality to the customer service, as far as I can tell.Desired Settlement: I would like them 1) to deliver on what they promise/advertise (fix their functionality) and refund me for time wasted. I'm happy to pay for the service IF IT WORKS, just not if it doesn't. Thank you!

Thank you for writing back.

Yes, their offer is satisfactory. No need for you to pursue further on my behalf. That said, as a business, they have had chronic problems, so you may want to keep an eye on them.

It seems as though, like many, they created this business in order to take advantage of the large number of people seeking online alternatives to meeting people. However, beyond an initial concept, they have not provided the infrastructure to support their business - either technologically nor with proper human/customer support.

Thank you for your time,

Review: I joined the dating site on October **, 2014, cancelled on October **, 2014, and requested a refund. I received a message acknowledging receipt but have not received.

Their refund policy states that refunds are issued if the cancellation is within the 72-hour period.

They do not honor their own policies.Desired Settlement: Total refund and transparency regarding their policy

Review: I never got "offline" on any dates through this site and would like a refund according to their guarantee policy.

No response to a billing issue in the beginning of the term.

I"m user [redacted] on the siteDesired Settlement: The site advertises that if you dont get offline on a dae you will get a full refund, which is my situation.

I would like the full refund as advertised.

Review: I had signed up for the websites services on a free trial period bases. I sent numerous emails prior to the end of the 30 trial period asking for my subscription to be cancelled. None of my emails were answered and the website proceeded to charge me for the services. I have sent follow up emails regarding the charges and the company was still unresponsive.Desired Settlement: I want the fee that I was charged refunded to me because I had requested many times before my free trial was over.

Response:

Dear [redacted],

Thanks you for your patience and for bringing this to our attention. I've attached the communication we had with you on 6/** regarding your refund, and I'm confirming that we've refunded you the $18 renewal charge in full. As noted in our Terms of Service, all accounts are set on auto-renew unless you opt out.

Best,

Review: The company had enrolled me in auto renew. I immediately saw the charge and requested a refund within the required 3 days. The company emailed me to say they could not find my email. I replied with an additional email and didn't receive any response. I also emailed customer service and no one replied even after a week.Desired Settlement: All I want is my full refund of 38.98.

Review: I chose this dating service because it's associated with [redacted]. I checked out the website and it looked okay, so I went to the price section to find out how much it would cost-I chose the $13.99 per month-clicked the button & right as the transaction went through I saw on the right-hand side, very quickly, an amount that said $83.94-I immediately went to the FAQ section & clicked "refunds"-I was told what to do & what to expect-The number listed was ###-###-####-I tried the number-a recording said there was no one available at the moment & to visit their website, which I did-Went to the website & got the exact same response I did the first time-It's a circle. No human has EVER answered the phone-I've called at all hours, day & night. The response time for emails was 72 hours-I got a response telling me to go to the website-go to FAQ-same as before-a circle. I've tried going through [redacted], at first they said they would help, after 3 conversations & so many emails later they sent me an email stating they couldn't help. No explanation-I wrote HAW's ** office asking for a refund or for someone to contact me-no response-I sent them another email telling them I was going to the Revdex.com-no response.I have looked at their feedback reviews, and there are a lot of complaints regarding the same issues as mine...taking the money-even taking money without authorization and getting no response from anyone in order to stop the debits. I also noted that in the reviews, no one has been able to speak with a real person, and no response from emails.Desired Settlement: A refund-$83.94 + $40.00 for an overdraft fee I was charged by my bank due to this overcharge, which is a total of $123.94-I just this second went on to my HAW account & discovered my account will not expire until 10/**. That makes no sense-I also cancelled my membership-Now I'm concerned they will deduct more money from my account-I don't particularly care for their tactics. I'm hoping you, the Revdex.com, will be able to help. I appreciate anything you can do. Thank you, [redacted]

Review: I signed up for HowAboutWe in August 2014. When I tried to cancel the service based on their ", I was told that I had to wait until after my subscription period had ended. I have just been charged again, $74.99, without any warning or authorization. I have been disappointed with this site overall -- there is a lack of paying members, so I mostly only receive messages of "intrigue" which cannot be replied to, and I have not gone on any in-person dates, as the service promised. I have also contacted the company directly as well as the [redacted] store, but I have not received any reply.Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded the original amount I paid in August 2014 ($74.99) in addition to this unauthorized secondary charge of ($74.99) for a total of $149.98.

Review: Hello,

I deactivated my howaboutwe account in August 2014. My account is no longer available for me to use but Howaboutwe is charging me monthly. I have inquired since August via their website for removal of my credit card since I am no longer using their services. I have been charged for 5 months and have not received a response to my inquiries.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund for the months of service not used and my card taken out of their billing system

Review: On 03-**-2015, I attempted to go on line and cancel my membership with How about we.com. The site it set up in such a way as to NOT ALLOW the consumer to cancel membership. My next step was to track down a telephone number for the company, as one is not posted on the site itself. The number I used was from my bank statement, when my account was charged $30.00 on 03/**/15. That number, ###-###-#### (which has a [redacted] listing), connects to a recorded message. The message gives instructions on how to contact the company via e-mail, however, the e-mail address is bogus.

I want to cancel my membership. I do not want to have any additional money charged to this account.Desired Settlement: I want to have my membership cancelled and receive confirmation that this has been done.

Review: How About Me promised me (due to my complaint last time) that it would stop billing me automatically and deactivate my account. Received ANOTHER $18 charge from them on 9/*/14.Desired Settlement: Refund and to deactivate my account.

Review: I subscribed to howaboutwe a while ago and enjoyed the service. However, when I began studying for the bar exam, I asked to freeze my account since I wouldn't have much time to go out. They did so and stated it would be for two months. However, after that I was never able to log in - the website wouldn't even allow me to look up my password or anything. I should've looked at my bank statements to ensure I wasn't being billed again, but I forgot. I did try a couple more times to sign on to the website in the following months, all to no avail, so I assumed that my account had accidentally been terminated and was fine with that. However, I discovered recently that I've been billed $18 a month since last August. I was extremely upset, as I wasn't even being allowed to access the service I was being charged for. There is no way to contact the company by phone (at least that I could find), so I sent an email. I received no response. I sent another email yesterday requesting a full refund and an immediate stop to auto payments. They have not responded. I cannot believe that this company is preventing me from signing into my online account to either use it or cancel it but is still charging me for their service.Desired Settlement: I need a refund of the months I have been billed without the ability to use the service as well as an immediate stop on auto withdrawals from my bank account.

Review: On December [redacted], 2014, I canceled/deactivated my account/profile via an e-mail with HowAboutWe. Below is the response I received on the same day

On that same date, HowAboutWe charged my [redacted] Sixty Dollars ($60.00). I've sent two e-mails and also called the number (HowAboutWe's) my Bank provided to me. I have yet to receive an e-mail, a refund and/or a telephone call (from HowAboutWe).

Review: I joined this dating service on June ** and canceled by membership on June **. The website states you can cancel within 3 days. I sent and email and canceled my membership online. I received an automate response to my email but no one has contacted me in regards to my refund. There's not contact phone number to call customer service. Review: I’m having the same issues with Howaboutwe.com’s business practices as many of the others who have complained about them to Revdex.com. When I signed up for my 6 month subscription to Howaboutwe.com in September 2014, I immediately went through the process to cancel my subscription to turn off autorenew for the subscription and got a confirmation online. However, Howaboutwe.com does not send you an email or provide any other way to document that turning off your subscription has occurred other than the online message. I was surprised to find out that when my subscription was suppose to end on March **, 2015, Howaboutwe.com went ahead and charged me $71.94 for an additional 6 month subscription despite the fact that I had turned off my subscription autorenew. Without a written confirmation of turning off autorenew, it appears that Howaboutwe.com uses this as a business practice tool to continue to charge people. Also, like others have stated, there is no way to delete your credit card information on their website to prevent this charge from happening. I have sent emails to both their customer service email address and the refund email address that’s on their website to request a refund for the $71.94 that they just charged me. In addition, I also requested in those emails a refund of my original subscription cost of $71.94 under their get “offline guarantee” which states that if you don’t go on a date, you get your subscription refunded. I didn’t go on a single date during my subscription. I have several emails from a Howaboutwe.com’s customer service representative clearly stating this “offline guarantee”.

After some balking from Howaboutwe.com’s customer representative about not being able to refund the recent March **. 2015, charge to my credit card, he finally said that he did issue the refund although the refund hasn’t been reflected in my credit card account after checking with my credit card company several times today. The customer service representative for Howaboutwe.com initially didn’t even acknowledge my request for refund under the “offline guarantee” until I reiterated it, but once he did, he stated that he couldn’t refund it to my credit card for security reasons and insisted that I provide them with personal information to mail a check in 4-6 weeks. I indicated to them that I wasn’t going to give them more personal information and that this was unacceptable and that I wanted the refund for the “offline guarantee” also credited to my credit card immediately. I have not heard a response back from Howaboutwe.com on this yet. I checked in with my credit card company and they said that Howaboutwe.com is able to credit another $71.94 to my account if they wanted to and that there are no restrictions from the credit card company’s end. I’m filing this complaint since based on other’s experiences, it seems to be the quickest way to resolution, and frankly, if Howaboutwe.com can promptly charge me as soon as my subscription is about to end, they can also promptly provide refunds. I asked them to resolve this issue before the end of the working day today, and I haven’t heard a response to my last e-mail from earlier today.Desired Settlement: Since I haven’t seen verification of the refund for the unauthorized renewal on my credit card, I would like a refund of $71.94 for the recent unauthorized subscription renewal and a refund of my original subscription of $71.94 under Howaboutwe.com’s get “offline guarantee” for a total refund of $143.88 credited to my credit card. I would also like written confirmation from Howaboutwe.com that the $143.88 has been refunded to my credit card account, that they will not be making any further charges to my credit card, and that my credit card information has been deleted from their records and systems after the refunds. My online name is “[redacted]”.

Response:

At this time, I have been contacted directly by Howaboutwe.com regarding complaint ID [redacted], however my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

Hello,I filed this complaint earlier this month. The Revdex.com sent an email message on Apri[redacted] that Howaboutwe.com did not respond to the Revdex.com inquiry and gave me 5 days to let Revdex.com know whether to continue it or not. I was out of the country from Apri[redacted] without email access when this email was sent by Revdex.com. Although Howaboutwe.com has contacted me and resolved some of the issues, there is still one outstanding issue that I would like the Revdex.com to continue to pursue with Howaboutwe.com. They are continuing to refuse to refund my original membership fee with them under their "get offline" guarantee to my credit card. They are insisting that they will only refund this membership if I provide them with further personal information which I do not want to do. According to my credit card company, Howaboutwe.com is able to provide a refund to my credit card even though the charge was made back in September of 2014, but Howaboutwe.com is refusing to do so and insists on requiring private information from me to send a check refund within 4-6 weeks.I would like the Revdex.com to continue to pursue asking Howaboutwe.com to provide this refund of $71.94 to my credit card. Please let me know how the Revdex.com intends to help pursuing this complaint. Thank you for your assistance.[redacted]

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Response:

At this time, I have not been contacted by Howaboutwe.com since April [redacted] regarding complaint ID [redacted]. I have heard nothing from Howaboutwe.com since my last message to them on April *, 2015. They have not directly resolved my issue related to a refund of $71.94 under their "get offline" guarantee where they supposedly offer a full refund for your membership if you don't get offline on an actual date. Ultimately, I worked through my credit card company to resolve this, and my credit card company has found in my favor and reimbursed me for the $71.94 that Howaboutwe.com should have refunded me. Sincerely,[redacted]

Review: Hello,

This complaint is regarding unauthrozied charges by howaboutwe.com in the amount of $83.94. I did not authorize this charge. I was emailed a link last year that offered me a lifetime free membership for downloading their Android app. I accepted the free membership assuming I would not be billed any further by howaboutwe.com for subscription services. I just recently went over statements and saw that I was billed on August *, 2014 for the amount of $83.94. I have tried calling customer service numerous times during the hours of operation and each time have gotten a voice mail where I have left a message. I have also emailed them at [redacted] and [redacted] and have not received any response besides an automated one.Desired Settlement: All I would like is a refund for the charges that were not authorized to be returned back to the card. I would also like to be able to have my billing information deleted from the system so no further charges can be incurred in the future. It would also be nice to speak with someone regarding the billing issue. I have tried calling and emailing and an automated response is not satisfactory. I would really just like to resolve the issue. Thanks

Review: I joined this online dating site. I only signed up for one month. At the end of the one month it automatically renewed itself without my knowledge or consent. I went online to cancel my subscription and when I was able to find out where to do it I was surprised to see that not only did it cancel me but it also deactivated the month service that I paid for against my desire. There is no phone number or way of contacting this vendor to resolve the issue. If I didn't cancel my subscription per their terms ok I'll eat that but when I did cancel I would have expected that the one month extra that I paid for (unwillingly) would continue till that month was over at least.Desired Settlement: I would like to be reimbursed for the one month membership that I will not use.

Business

Response:

Hi there,

Thanks for writing about this, and letting us know. All accounts are set to auto-renew unless you opt out, which is in our Terms of Use and is listed as a feature on the site. Instructions to cancel a subscription can be found in our FAQ, or we can help if you contact us at [redacted].

I've checked your account and it looks like you deactivated your profile, instead of just canceling the account, which cancels a paid subscription and makes your profile invisible on the site. This is also in our FAQ.

Since you had trouble with this, we've refunded your $28 renewal charge, which will reflect in your account within five business days.

Your account has already been canceled so you will not be billed again.

Please let us know if we can help with anything else by contacting us at [redacted] as that is the best way to get in touch with us.

Best,

Sincerely,

Review: Bought a promotional, time-specific membership. Unchecked automatic renewal. Account renewed anyway. This business attempts to sneak such transactions through by neither forwarding an e-receipt or notice of upcoming renewal via email. When I identified the unauthorized transaction, it was after doing a line-by-line reading of my checking account statement. Called customer service. It had been 3 days since account was automatically renewed. Won't refund. Instead, they extended membership which a) I didn't want, b) I did not explicitly approve and c) was not compensation for original bogus charge. All this was justified by reference to something buried in the fine print of the agreement user clicks just to start membership. Management exploits their "Terms of Use" to cheat members out of their money if they are unaware that membership renews automatically and without advance notice or post-charge e-receipt.

Last email sent April [redacted] for which I received no response:

Hi,

I am in the process of filing out a complaint with the RevDex.com and want to include the names of HowAboutWe.Com's owners. I

have Brian S[redacted] and Aaron S[redacted]? Please confirm.

Some emails to and from rep by the name of Dana:

Hi Dana,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I'll be frank. As the renewal was unintended, neither a renewal reminder nor a receipt was ever emailed to me, and I have offered to pay a prorated amount, I invite howaboutwe to avoid manipulating the pathetic argument of fine print and refund what I have proposed. If that remains unacceptable, I'll redirect my ire by sharing howaboutwe's questionable business ethic with the state attorney general's office, and the Revdex.com in New York.

Dana,

I'm not interested in a freebee in exchange for a Terms of Use manipulation. Complaints are in process. As former communications consultant for a Hollywood-based online company, I can tell you, first hand, that playing fast and loose with your customers is the most cost-effective way to generate horrible word-of-mouth publicity. You've earned my loyalty in being a spokesperson for that. And, apparently, HowAboutWe has no qualms in taking $70 to earn it. The upshot? When customers make a courteous and ethical request, don't make empty apologies, hoping to win a nickle and dime battle. It only loses the war of ethics in the public arena.Desired Settlement: $70 refund.
