Instant Checkmate.com compiles reports from millions of public records including information provided by state and local governments. All of the information contained in our reports is part of what is referred to as the "public record."
We do apologize for any confusion Mr. [redacted] may have experienced regarding our services. Some customers are under the impression that when you purchase a membership with our company you are paying for records; unfortunately, this is not the case. The service that is provided is actually the compiling of all the public records data and the sorting of the data into an easy to read format. When a customer pays for a public records search, we do guarantee that we will search every database available to us, however, we cannot guarantee which records will or will not show up in the final report since we are not in control of the records themselves. We simply display records as they are provided to us.
We get our information from local county courthouses and census bureaus. This information is then uploaded to the database that we pull from. There is a possibility that some information may not show on a given individual because some state and local laws restrict us from accessing certain records which may not be considered “public” in that jurisdiction. There also exists the possibility of false positives, and more than one individual with the same name and basic information may match up with many other records. For these reasons, search results are filtered by "most likely," "likely," and "somewhat likely." The following disclaimer is also posted on every page of our website:

a) Standard Membership Plans
Instant Checkmate offers three basic membership plans. All membership plans are billed up front for the entire term selected.
For a standard 6-month membership, You will be billed $59.16 immediately upon purchase and $59.16 every 6 months thereafter, unless you cancel.


For a standard 3-month membership, You will be billed $44.58 immediately upon purchase and $44.58 every 3 months thereafter, unless you cancel.


For a standard 1-month membership, You will be billed $22.86 immediately upon purchase and $22.86 every month thereafter, unless you cancel.

If your payment for a full term is declined due to insufficient funds, Instant Checkmate reserves the right to bill in monthly installments at the rate You selected.
b) $1.00 Trial Membership
If You selected a trial membership, You will be billed $1.00 immediately upon enrollment of the trial. Your 5-day, $1.00 trial will expire in 5 days. Upon the expiration of the 5-day trial period, You will be automatically enrolled in a monthly membership and billed $29.63 immediately and $29.63 every month thereafter, unless you cancel. You may cancel at any time including during the trial period. See Section 1(d) below.
c) Nonstandard Membership Plans
Instant Checkmate sometimes offers promotional membership offers. If You enroll in a nonstandard membership, Instant Checkmate expressly reserves the right to bill You, at the rate and frequency disclosed at the time of You enroll.
d) Cancellation Policy
You may cancel your membership, including any trial or nonstandard membership at any time by calling our customer support line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to speak with one of our Customer Service Representatives. Any cancellation request will cancel Your upcoming bill.
e) Refund Policy
Our number one goal at Instant Checkmate is customer satisfaction. If you are ever not satisfied with our services, feel free to call one of our excellent customer support staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we will work to resolve your issue. Refunds are handled on a case by case basis with the ultimate goal of complete customer satisfaction.
We apologize that Ms. [redacted] was not satisfied with our services. As a gesture of goodwill, she has been issued a refund in the amount of $593.60 as per the request in the original complaint. Fining them didn't work. They are still advertising data that is not publically available. They are pulling data for people going back 20 years or more without permission. If I go to their site or one of their affiliates I can locate all of my addresses and phone numbers. I only use my information on reputable sites like Amazon. How can we shut them down. They are putting people in danger. What if the person had a stalker or was in a domestic violence suit? They feel it's perfectly fine to give out the info with no checks whatsoever.

Complete waist of your money. These reports are only accurate for current and past residences someone has lived and maybe a few phone numbers. I signed up, tested it on myself and was extremely disappointed with the product. You have to pay additional $19.99 to get email and social media info, and that is not even accurate. I have several email accounts and not one was listed but for a bunch of emails I've never heard of, didn't pull any social media except for my wife's, under my name. My graduation date was listed incorrect along with a felony record that said 'likely match'. The guy had a completely different middle name. I own a business and the report states I am not associated with any business. If your looking for accurate information this is not the place to find.

The service that is provided is actually the compiling of all the public records data and the sorting of the data into an easy to read format. When a customer pays for a public records search, we do guarantee that we will search every database available to us, however, we cannot guarantee which records will or will not show up in the final report since we are not in control of the records themselves.
We get our information from local county courthouses and census bureaus. This information is then uploaded to the database that we pull from. We simply display records as they are provided to us. That being said, results are filtered from “most likely” to “least likely” based on several variables including people having similar names. In Ms. [redacted]’s case, it is possible that the “possible criminal records” notification appeared on her search as a result of another individual in her state/jurisdiction possessing similar or identical information (first or middle name, birthdate, age, etc.).
There is also a possibility that some information may not show on a given individual because some state and local laws restrict us from accessing certain records which may not be considered “public” in that jurisdiction. $I searched online to find my previous addresses, which I needed for my job. The ad said I could get this information for free. I went through several screens, and landed on a page that asked for $23 to view the report. It seemed steep, but I actually paid it, only to find that the report didn't actually provide much useful information and only the last three addresses--those I have no problem remembering--its the ones back 10-20 years that I needed. Then all these additional charges started popping up: $1.99 service fee if you want to print it out as a pdf; $19.99 for the premium report--unclear whether this would provide any more address info. I called customer service and asked them to cancel my account. He offered to refund me half. I pressed and said I didn't get the information I needed and I only just opened it less than an hour before I called. This was clearly a mistake. They did refund my account. I would not recommend this site to anyone.
