International Van Lines Reviews (104)

For long distance moving, I hired this companyTheir quote was reasonable and I found them the lowestThey moved our whole apartment stuffs after wrapping themNone of them were damaged or broken, and we were pleased for their moving jobThese guys served the best moving service till now I have experiencedHighly recommended!

I would like to pass on my thanks for a great move and great relocation team. I have moved several times in the past and memories are not the best, but our latest relocation with IVL was a pleasure! I am satisfied and I will recommend you to all the people I know.

These guys were great!! Moving crew was awesome! Got everything settled. I would def recommend them and use them again for any move!!

The service of the company was really excellent and highly recommended. The move was a challenge - he comes to my island only twice a week. What a perfect timing, service and value for money!

My husband and I had a very good experience with them. Our move went smoothly and the price was just right. They were hardworking and took time and care with all our things. I would definitely suggest them to friends, coworkers, and family. Actually, I already have!

IVL was hired to move the larger items of furniture and appliances approximately 40 miles to a new residence. A crew of four arrived on time and were professional and courteous. They worked with us to include even last minute additions and did quality work without breakage or any issues whatsoever. The crew we had were experienced and it showed.

I used him and his team in June this year. They made the process so easy for us. They were polite, professional and very reasonable in price. Compared with my last painful experience, their team is just the best I could imagine. Fully recommended!

I can't wait to recommend you to others. The guys were courteous, friendly, helpful and worked extremely hard for us. I don't think I've ever worked with a more experienced moving crew.

This company is filled with dishonesty - at every step of the way, in every department. They are exploiting many of their employees and sub-contracting the majority of the move, which they promise not to do. We are currently looking into our options for litigation. I have never interacted with so many dishonest and terrible individuals. Please, please, please, avoid them and recognize that they have many false, paid-for reviews online. It should not be legal what this company does to people, including some of their own employees.

Our story:
Our family was stranded 4 weeks ago at 3:00 a.m. with a huge number of our items still left sitting on the sidewalk before we had to be out of our house the next day for the new owners. We watched our moving truck pull away after being told (at 2:30 a.m.) that they actually would not have room after all in the truck (because it had been filled with other items from previous moves before they got to us). We had to cancel our flights, my husband had to rent a Penske truck at 7:00 a.m. for an additional $2000, get the help of our neighbors to fill it with the items the company couldn't fit, and drive across the country by himself. And though our move was not even completed, we were charged over $3000 more than the initial estimate that we had to pay before the men left our house at 3:00 a.m.

The truck arrived 1.5 days after it was scheduled and had only two people in it. They were both nice, hard-working young men who are clearly being exploited. They were so late getting to us because the company had thrown two or three other "urgent" jobs at them at the last minute before us. In fact, we learned they had finished another move at 3:00 a.m. the previous evening, then had another morning move, then came to us. These men had not been getting proper sleep and then were driving a 26' truck through the night, putting themselves and everyone else on the roads at risk. Our two movers proceeded to phone a number of local men to help pack our home many of whom clearly had no prior experience packing. Who knows the condition our items will be in (if we ever even receive them).

It has now been a month since we were left in DC at 3:00 in the morning. We have been living in Seattle with our three young children in an empty house. All of our repeated calls and emails are either ignored or essentially dismissed as we're passed [redacted] one person to another, and told sarcastically that "they don't have tracking devices on their trucks". We finally learned our items sat in a warehouse in the DC area for weeks. Only today did we finally receive a call from the driver from the truck.

The driver works for a separate moving company (not for IVL), and just told me that the truck is too large to come directly to our home. He said the company will call to give us the additional cost of a shuttle truck to actually get our items to our home. Or we can come meet him in a parking lot with our own rented truck and do everything else ourselves, but will still owe the initial amount of the outstanding balance - which will only be accepted in cash.

So although the address of our new house has been in the system this entire time, and we paid for a full pack, move and unpack (which means unpacking with a full team on the other side and re-assembling furniture), we will now be expected to pay additional money that we were never informed of to get our items to our home at all. The driver said if we fail to pay the remaining balance in cash, he will hold our items in an undisclosed location (I imagine eventually to be auctioned-off?).

This has truly been a nightmare from the start. Again, do not believe any other reviews you come across. People have been paid to post them. Do not hire this company. I very much hope they fail and any honest employees they do have can find work elsewhere where they will be treated well and fairly.

- [redacted] and [redacted]
(And our three children, ages, 2, 5, and 8, who would very much like to see some of their toys again one day)

Love these guys so very much. Will recommend them to any and all my friends, and might have to use them again for an upcoming move. As nice and as courteous as possible. LOVE!

These guys are awesome. Friendly, courteous, professional and very efficient. I had a move scheduled for 1pm and they came early. They were super fast but extremely careful. I would definitely use them again and refer to anyone who is looking for movers that are reliable and affordable.

Very bad service!!! No response at all by this company...very bad service!!!

Please be careful of this company, their will hold your shipment & need you pay extra money >$500 on top of original quote to get back your household.

Don't trust this company !!!! I have a very bad experience on this company !!!!

Mike and his crew were awesome. They were strong enough to move our things from basement to the truck 3 weeks ago. Even while unloading, they were so flexible and it was all done a little bit fast that I could barely believe it. I've never used this moving company before but now they will be remembered and will be recommended. You guys did great!

We relocated to Jupiter, FL from Buck County, PA. We hired International Van Lines to help us with our move. From beginning to end the move was a nightmare. We experienced little to no communication regarding pick-up and delivery, a complete disregard for the manner in which our furniture and belongings were packed and transported, damaged and missing furniture and most heartbreaking the loss of over 100 years of family pictures due to gross negligence and lack of organization.
On our scheduled pick up day, they did not show up until after 3:30pm. The crew consisted of two guys and 2 U-Haul trucks. One truck was already filled with someone else's belongings. Halfway through the move, the crew ran out of packing supplies and moving blankets. We had over 7 pieces of furniture transported unwrapped. The crew assured my husband that when we saw the pieces delivered they would be wrapped. At 2am (YES, that's 2 O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING!!!) when the truck was finally packed, the crew informed my husband that it was going to be additional $1828.54 for their services. When asked why, they said "you had more stuff than on the estimate". Looks like 10 extra boxes and one car seat equals $1828.54. (I have asked for an itemized bill but have still not received it.)
Moving on to delivery day. They were scheduled to come between 8am and noon. At 10:30 am we still had not received a call regarding their ETA so I call them. One of the guys on the crew called back and asked "Is it okay if we come tomorrow? It's raining here".
When they arrived the next day, the crew was making comments that whoever packed our things did a terrible job and that several items were unwrapped. One by one we watched as our damaged belongings were being wheeled into the house. Broken, chipped and scratched furniture everywhere. We are missing a dining room chair and the legs to our kitchen table. We had wine glasses packed under pots and pans and my favorite...A MIRROR PACKED UNWRAPPED IN A BOX WITH 4 DUMB BELLS!!!

When I contacted International Van Lines to file a complaint, a gentleman called me back asking me to email him with the details and he would see what he could do. He said that he saw that we had insurance so that was good. He also asked that I not post anything on social media until he could process my complaint. When I followed up with him over a week later, he asked me to please be patient because he deals with 100's of customers a month. Two days later he replied "After reviewing everything with my team, we can offer you $500, if you are willing to sign a nondisclosure agreement." There was no mention of what they were going to do to find our missing items or the itemized receipt that I requested.

That my friends, must be why I did not find many negative reviews for International Van Lines when I did my research. I did not respond to their $500 offer in hopes that I can help someone in the future when they are researching their upcoming move.

He and his crew finished moving us from Florida to New York and I wanted to let you know that we were very satisfied. Your guys were careful, professional and very cooperative..

We have never had the experience that we did on Thursday. We really appreciate the friendliness of your crew. Please thank them all for us. Some of them had left before we could thank them personally. We really enjoyed spending the day with them. They were fast, careful, and polite, interested in us as a family, respected our belongings and were a pleasure to have around. We will definitely call on you again if needed and we will recommend you to all of our friends. Thank you again.

People are always quick to mention when a job is not completed correctly. I wanted to drop a quick note that the 3 gentleman who moved our house on Saturday were excellent and deserve positive feedback. They arrived on time, were professional, and friendly. They worked efficiently but were careful with our prized possessions. They made the move as easy as it could be. I just wanted to extend my thank you.

Buyer beware. IVL is not a van line.... They sub everything out, and the customer has no control over who they hire. For our move from SF to Austin, there was little to no communication on contracted movers until just a few days before p/u. P/U went pretty smoothly, no complaints. However, the subcontracted company (XO Movers) have poor customer service, and used a subcontracted Owner/Operator out of DC. This Owner/Operator used CRAIGSLIST to find muscle for the unloading. One fella was essentially homeless, traveling from town to town picking up odd jobs. Spend a little extra, and use a company that sources internally for staff, or gives you options on sub contracted staffing. Not impressed. IVL is nothing more than a few folks sitting in a desk somewhere collecting money....

I would actually give them zero starts if I could. My wife and I were planning a cross country move from Virginia to California. Unfortunately for us, we chose International Van Lines (IVL) to move us across country.

They are liars when they say that they use their own moving trucks to move you. They don't. Here is a quote from [redacted], our relocation "expert" from IVL in an email "This move will be handled by OUR MOVERS, OUR TRUCKS, IVL the whole way through". When they finally showed up at our apartment, they came in a U-Haul already half full with someone else's stuff.

We had our move scheduled for a Wednesday at 1:00pm. They showed up at 10:00pm and did not get finished until well after 1:00am. Actually, they did not finish at 1:00am as they filled up the half-loaded U-Haul and we still had a lot of items still left in the apartment. They had to call in another non-IVL truck to move the rest of our stuff the next morning. After they loaded our stuff, they told me I needed to pay extra because my apartment was more than 75ft from the U-Haul. I was told from [redacted] previously that I would not need to pay this, but what could I do at 1:00am. I ended up taking off a whole day of work for this B.S.

Once we found a place to live in California, I had difficulty in trying to get a hold of IVL. I was trying to find out exactly where our stuff was but I kept calling and our relocation expert [redacted] was either not available or I would mysteriously get disconnected. My wife and I were wandering if our stuff had been stolen. I was finally told our stuff was on its way and they were somewhere near Chicago. This turned out to be another lie as I found out later our stuff hadn't even made it on the truck as it was still in storage in Maryland. Their excuse was the company they used to move our stuff forgot to pick it up in Maryland. Another lie as [redacted] stated in another email, "Yes they will be our trucks and movers". Now we were forced to stay in a hotel for a week plus pay for one week of rent because we had no furniture or anything in our new rental house.

I received several calls from the movers as they were getting closer to California. They told me I had to pay them in cash or they would not be able to deliver our stuff. I was under the impression from IVL when I paid for the first half of the move WITH a credit card that I could use a credit card again as I do not have that kind of money on hand in my bank. I called IVL again having a very difficult time getting a hold of [redacted], so they put me in touch with their so-called manager. He told me I could pay them with a credit card and they would pay the company. He said I needed to sign a credit card authorization slip and he would email it to me. He never did email the authorization to me - another lie among many. I ended up taking a credit card cash advance to pay for this.

Our stuff finally arrived at our new rental house. They came in a big huge white moving truck (not an IVL truck) that barely fit in the cul-de-sac we were now living. They made quite a scene as they blocked people from being able to pull their cars in and out of their own driveways. I talked to the movers and they are actually from a company in Hoboken, New Jersey. Our property was combined with other people's stuff, so the movers had a difficult time locating our stuff in the truck. Once they found our stuff, they finally moved our stuff into our new home. We checked the inventory and found that we were missing two chairs. We later found damage to a picture frame, two floor fans, and our $3000.00 incline trainer.

They do have a lot of positive reviews but they just got busted by Yelp for paying people to write reviews. The positive reviews were one of the major influences in making my decision.

I would like to commend your employees for being such professional young men. They were pleasant and courteous and hard workers. They are dressed nicely and neatly and commenced with the job in a thorough manner. I would highly recommend your firm to anyone.
