MONI Reviews (110)

I am being harassed by Monitronics. This is absolutely unacceptable. I have cancelled, sent a letter, but still receive bills and phone calls (2-3 times per day, including weekend for the last two months) for payment. I have not lived at this address for over 3 years but had to see through my contract and contributed to pay each month. This is causing so much unnecessary stress that I do not have time for. I am mailing ANOTHER cancellation letter today and WILL NOT pay the last bill as I have paid for 40+ months of service that was not used. Shame on this company. I have never written a review on Revdex.com in my life, but have no idea what else to do to save others from having this horrible experience.

Re: Cancelling Services as of the end of our contract date of August 2, 2016 which was with Vision Security

To whom it may concern,

This is our written notice to cancel services with you all, I don't have an account number, since have never seen a bill from you. The address above is where you where providing services at.

I called on 08/18/16 am and still is waiting for the e-mail that was to be set to me within 72 hours, yes checked my spam and junk mail I have yet to receive any correspondence from your company.

Please note that our first payment was on 08/05/11 to pay for August 2011 services that said our final payment on 08/05/16 is to for August 2016. That said I feel as I am due a refund since we had pulled your equipment out of our house, the alarm company did not call nor did the police company show at our door step, this is concerning, since who knows when the last time you were actually monitoring our house. That said I would say refunding us for our August 2016 payment in the amount of $52.99 would be fare. Because who knows when the last time you actual received a single from your house.

As of 08/18/16 you don't have our consent to withdraw any more money from our checking account.

If you should have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me at XXX.XXX.XXXX.

Thank you,

This is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with as far as customer service goes. They do not want to let you go, they are terribly rude and I would avoid them at all costs. Before you sign up with any security company, find out who is doing the monitoring. I tried to find out how to cancel my service once my contract expired. I wanted to go with a bundle from another company. The woman I spoke with tried numerous scare tactics with me to get me to stay, including going so far to tell me about a woman who was raped in her own home because she didn't have the proper security set. That is just uncalled for.

I sent them a notice of cancellation and they are still bugging me. I just returned the call from some account service manager and he had hip hop music playing loudly in the background. Is this a bar or is it a business. When I asked why he was calling, he was rude. I gave them all the information the needed in my letter. AVOID Monitronics and read the fine print carefully on any security company. 5 years is a long time to be locked into something useless.

We signed up for a Home Security System through this company that wound up being a five year term.
At the time we signed the contract we knew we would not be living in this home for another five years so being able to break the contract if we moved was the key factor in deciding to enter into the agreement.
I asked the authorized seller the same question three different ways:
Question #1: If we move does that nullify the contract?
Answer #1: Yes it does.
Understanding that he was a door to door salesman I realized there was a chance he didn't understand the definition of the word "nullify" so I asked in a different fashion.
Question #2: If we move, our contract is voided and we're not on the hook for future payments.
Answer #2: That's correct.
I pressed on with the same line of questioning since it was the ONLY thing I was interested in.
Question #3: Once we move the contract is broken and the service is cancelled without penalty or future payments.
Answer #3: That's correct.
I'm not exactly a brilliant man, in fact back in college I generated more "C's" than a [redacted] but I felt that he had sufficiently answered my one major concern into entering into a contract.
After living in the home for several more years it was time to cancel our policy as we were moving. I was relieved to know that we would not have to pay for a service that we were no longer going to benefit from as that would just be silly. As I called into customer service to start the wheels in motion I was notified that I could not cancel over the phone nor via email but would have to write a letter and mail it in to be processed. Had I known this would have been the archaic process to correspond with a company that should be leveraging and embracing the latest technology has to offer I would have never signed up in the first place. I had to wonder had we ever had a break-in would they have dispatched a cop on a horse? Nevertheless I took the notes down to include certain information in the cancellation request and mailed in the letter. As we got a response back ten days later we were informed that our cancellation request was incomplete so the cancellation could not occur. After a call into the company I was told that my service would be cancelled at the end of the contract and not beforehand and we owed the remaining months. I was also assured that we would not be charged after the contract ended (I'm holding my breath on that one). I would not recommend this company to anyone. This company continues to hide behind a contract that was not entered into faithfully by both parties and I'm disgusted by their practices.

We have been customers for over three years and received no security service. Monitronics equipment never worked. We were told we were on a month to month payment plan. When we informed the company we were canceling, the customer service rep (Patricia) was extremely disrespectful. Now we're told we owe them another $800 before they will cancel the non-existent service. Please help us and other customers in the same situation.

Impossible to cancel services with them even when you have fulfilled your contract...BEWARE! Awful, awful business practices. We have been on the phone for hours with them over the past few months trying to cancel our service. They make it impossible to cancel your services. We moved a few months ago and tried canceling our service and our credit card continued to be billed. They request a letter stating your need for cancellation and then it takes another 30 days to cancel. And then you are billed a pro-rated bill and you have to call again to cancel and they supposedly will credit your account to leave a balance of zero. They recently sent us a letter stating that our card will no longer be billed but they will send paper invoices. And they will be sending someone out to our new residence to talk to us about using their service. NO! Why don't they leave us alone?!!! We also learned that the new owners of our previous residence took over our account so Monitronics has been charging both of us for the same residence...wow! Shouldn't that be illegal? Isn't there a better way to make a profit and keep customers? Monitronics, you are thieves. I fear I will need to take legal action soon, something I thought I would never need to do to simply cancel a service I no longer need for a home I no longer own.

We were contacted almost three years ago to upgrade our existing ADT system. We thought the provider was ADT and it wasn't until they changed out all the equipment and had us sign a contract that we realized it wasn't ADT but Monitronics. This past October when we knew our contract was almost up we chose to return to ADT. We called Monitronics and their staff gave us nothing but grief about canceling our service at the end of our contract, Nov. 12, 2015. We recently realized that they have still been billing our credit card for their service. American Express stopped allowing their bills and credited our account back to Dec. for their bills however they sent us a paper bill. When I called them they now say were were supposed to mail them a letter stopping service and it could not be done over the phone and that they expect to be paid for a full month after they receive the termination letter. We were not happy with their service when we had them. So We would not recommend this company.

my elderly parents were approached. by a representative. at there door they were lied. to saying the company.they were with had been bought out by the company they were representing. which gain them access in the house then we're. told they had to sign. a three year contact n as if that wasn't enough did not want my father to sign. but only mother whom has been very ill by saying. that if she died.he would.not be held responsible. then as if that hadn't been enough were there in home till 10pm installing. When they called company they had been with next morning to see if indeed they had been bought out were told no and was wondering why their. values customer since 1990 had cancelled. them out told th what had happened but could not get put of 3 year contract. Not only did they deceive. them and were in home till late night but now they will not answer door and are scared. of. a home intrutions.SHAME ON THIS COMPANY FOR LIEING N DECEIVING AN ELDERLY COUPLE. INTO A THREE YR COBTRACT

I am called to switch alarm companies, and Monitronics Security uses aggressive and onerous methods to keep you from being able to cancel. They first use VERY aggressive phone tactics to attempt to talk you out of leaving and avoiding the answering any questions about their procedure for cancelling service. They claim that a letter is required in writing in order to cancel, and then a waiting period of 30 days. This seems like a very desperate attempt to extract as much money as possible.

I have never been particularly impressed with their equipment or service. Their price is no longer competitive, which is a good reason to switch. When I called to cancelled, only then did they mention that they would lower my monthly price as a loyalty move. Too little too late and the rudeness of the "customer service" people make me wonder if anyone really falls for that. I guess that is why they are desperate to hang on to their remaining customers.

A house in Fla was sold and Monitronics continued to harass us about paying out the length of a fake contract. Their service is awful and we would not transfer them to our new house in Florida because we need good reliable security on a house that we rarely use. My husband decided to let them be our security provider in Michigan to stop the harassment. The technician showed up, he could not make their system compatible with our existing components. Well now the bills start coming with late fees too and the phone calls are relentless again and we STILL DO NOT HAVE THIS SERVICE FROM MONITRONICS!! I called them and they would not do anything for me because I didn't know the credit card number that was used on the original account. They did however keep my cell phone number and now harass me and my husband on my cell phone. This morning I answered their call and after being transferred 3 times and waiting for customer service I hung up. They called me!! I will be filing a formal complaint.

They are making it extremely difficult to cancel my service, and won't give me straight answers about why I have give 30 days notice to cancel. I am trying to cancel my service and they transferred me to 3 different people that I had to tell the same things to, and be placed on hold for a long time by each of them. Then they tell me I have to give 30 days notice in writing, and will still be billed for that month even though I am no longer using their services. I signed a contract with Nationwide Security, not Monitronics, and I don't see on my contract where it says anything about the 30 day notice. My contract is over, and I just want to cancel my service.

We purchased a system with Monitronic through neighbor. I should have known bettter!
They sold us a alarms system with monthly charges way to high compared to other companies in the area. We could not and still can not use the system for over a year after it was installed. They did not bring us yard signs for over a year, or a remote controll I paid $50. extra for.Monitro Asked me to pay $50. to send someone out to replace battery on a system I have not been able to use since it was installed. I asked to cancel contract after fighting with them for over month they wanted to charge me $1,000. I asked if they wopuld fix everything how much they would credit my account for the unusable condition for over a year ,they responded 1/2 of a month or just over $30.00. then told me I could go buy battery at batteries plus for the system to work the same system I had paid monthly for over a year and they wanted me to pay $50.00 to send someone out to fix the system I couldn't use in over a year.

We had service with Monitronics for 3 yrs and we are well past our contract agreement. We have been trying to cancel service with them for four months and are still continuing to receive bills every month. I will never use nor recommend service with this company EVER!!!

WHAT A NIGHTMARE
I have never wished for a redo button on life more than now. I wish I'd read customer reviews here before agreeing to security service with "MONI". We have had nothing but problems with hardware and customer service. The latest nightmare was a canceled service call because "customer refused to pay". NO ONE EVER SHOWED UP! When I asked for the name of the tech I was informed they don't have that information. For all I know they simply write whatever they like in the notes. I've been calling Monitronics/Capital Connect at least once a week, each time I'm promised a "call back". I've only gotten a "call back" 1 time.... that's right ONE time. Stay away from these people. Save yourself the headaches.

I am so glad to see the A+ rating go. There is nothing A+ about Monitronics and ALL employees. They are the rudest, crudest, the most evil people I have ever dealt with.
They have no scruples whatsoever. They are bullies taking advantage of people. They are brainwashed devils. I hope you all enjoy your time in [redacted]!

I cancelled my account on 9/28 they informed me that I would receive a credit by to my account for $77.92
I received the $47.92, but they will not give me my 30.00 goodwill fee... I've spoken to several agents at least 8, every agent gives me a different story,, spoke with a manager today on 10/19 his name was pubelo ... he told me the reason I was gonna get the $30. Goodwill fee because I transferred money from my son account to cover the nsf fee... but now they want honor it... what did they want me to do let my account get deeper in the negative, because they took money from my account and they should've... I even have the statement they sent me stating that they owe me $77.49, but yet they will only give me $47.92... I will never refer anyone to the company, they don't honor they word, and customer service and the managers need to be retrained, they're not professional at all... I Will NOT REFERR A DOG TO THIS COMPANY.... it SUCKS ESPECIALLY THE MANAGERS

Hey if you are reading this before you make a contract with them here's my advice run away from them as fast as you can!! They said in case you moved or if lost your job you could brake the contract, well the truth is that not even dying brakes their contract, the monotronics don't care if you can't pay it or if you can't take it if you have to move they just make sure you pay , and also last 2 times the alarm whent off for no reason and I gave them the pasword and all the info they asked and they still charged me for the service of sending a guard but I gave them the pasword to let them know there was something wrong with their sistem but I still got charged 35$ so I don't even turn on my alarm anymore, I hate their stupid system!! Why go through this when you could get a more professional alarm company. 🏃 away from monotronics.😭 its too bad I never looked at their reviews before I got this contract. 😭

In June, 2013, I signed a 36-month contract for home security services with Elite Home Security. The contract set my rate of payment for services at "X" dollars per month.
In May, 2014, Elite Home Security was purchased by Monitronics who proceeded to raise my monthly rates by 10 percentwithout any advance notice and in violation of the contract. At the time I sent a letter to Monitronics requesting an explanation and that my rate be lowered to the contracted rate.
In April of this year, Monitronics raised my rates another 10 percent, again without any advance notice and in violation of the contract for services. Since I had less than 60 days to run on the contract, I wrote to Monitronics via certified mail notifying them that I wished for the service and all collection of the monthly service charge be terminated effective with the expiration of the contract on June 13, 2016. I received acknowledgement from Monitronics dated April 22, 2016 acknowledging receipt and that the service and collection of the monthly service fee would be terminated effective with the expiration of the contract.
On June 15, 2016, I discovered upon a review of my bank account that Monitronics collected another month's service fee on June 14, 2016AFTER they had agreed to terminate service and collection of the service fee. When I contacted their customer service dept, the agent I spoke with was belligerent and non-cooperative, telling me that they would continue collection of the fees until they ordered to do otherwise by some legal authority and there wasn't anything I could do about it.
This company's practices are predatory and dishonest.
I'd sooner recommend someone have a colonoscopy without anesthesia than to recommend anyone, even a worst enemy, do business with this dishonest company.

This company is a rip off when it come to try to cancel your service. I moved out of the rent house I was in 18 months ago and when I call to cancel they told me I would have to pay the remaining balance up front which I didn't have so I kept paying monthly. I called to cancel today because my agreement ends in October and they tell me I have to write a letter and send it snail mail who does that these days. After reading other reviews I see why they want you to send it that way so they can take their time and keep charging you. Save yourself money and a lot of problems and don't use this company.

My 36 month contract is up and all I want is to cancel service. The representatives are rude and account managers do not take or return customers calls.
