My technician, Dan P was very professional and thorough. He worked very hard, quietly, and efficiently. He was also very honest when asking him about how long our furnace may last. Instead of upselling us and being shady, he was honest with his assessment about what we can save and how long our unit might last. I really appreciate Dan P

I had a very positive experience with Morris Jenkins this week. They were extremely responsive and easy to schedule with, and the technician they sent (Jimmy) did a great job explaining the condition and the options to fix. I happy to have signed up with MJ for future service and repair.

Unnecessary work performed
We are new to North Carolina. We just moved into our new house about a week prior. The air conditioner stopped working one night so we called Morris Jenkins. They came out the next day when I was at work, but my wife and 2 4 year olds were home. The technician told my wife that it was a blown fuse and that it was fixed but that he was almost knocked down with the smell of gas coming from our crawl space. At no point did he call the gas company, emergency services or even ask my family to leave until it could properly be ventilated. They turned the gas off until an estimator could come out that night. The estimator stated that the furnace was not operational and that it needed to be replaced and was very forceful in trying to get us to replace the second zone heating and air conditioning also. We could not afford it so we agreed to replace the first zone furnace because they made us fear for ours and our children's lives with the gas leak. Work was performed the next day. While an obviously new person showed my wife how to operate the new thermostat, she asked him about the gas leak. He clearly had no idea what leak she was talking about. When she asked him again, he remembered, "oh yeah, I was almost knocked down with the smell." He used the same exact wording, like it was a script. How could it smell under there if it was turned off and ventilated so it was safe for us to stay in the house? I've worked in emergency services for over 10 years and the answer is that there was no leak. They would have had my family exit the house , called the fire department and gas company until the house was ventilated and deemed safe. I called Piedmont Natural gas and confirmed that if a contractor smells gas, they must call the gas company. The next day, I asked for a very detailed invoice detailing absolutely everything that was done. I received that invoice and no gas line work was done, especially no pressure tests for anything to determine where the leak was. I asked the technician to send me pictures of the old furnace which they stated had a burnt out mother board, blower motor that didn't work because it was covered in dust. I received the pictures and they showed some dust on the blower wheel and no discoloration on the circuit board, whatsoever. Moreover, the previous homeowners were meticulous and had all the units serviced often and kept all of the records. As a side note, we had two plumbers in the crawl space earlier that week to give us estimates on stove work and there was no gas leak. I had the pictures reviewed by hvac techs and they stated that there was no overheating on that circuit board. Morris *** used fear mongering to get us to spend $8400 on a new furnace.

Desired Outcome

Refund. You use fear mongering to get people to almost be forced to purchase equipment to keep their family safe.

Thank you for forwarding the customer's feedback to us, we appreciate the opportunity to address our customer's concerns.

This customer called in on March 31, 2020 because their Air Conditioner was not working. The technician did a full inspection of both the AC and Furnace. He found the fuse blown on the AC unit and once replaced, it started up. His inspection of the furnace found many issues. The heat exchanger was in a very dangerous condition, including rust holes at the seams and burned thin spots in places. Other issues included a dirty blower wheel, an overheated circuit board and rusted fittings on the furnace regulator where the gas leak was. The customer was informed of all these issues and told that it was not safe to run. Contacting authorities is not Morris-***' responsibility. It is up to the customer as to how they would like to handle that information. The dust on the blower and the overheated circuit board were not the safety concerns, the failed heat exchanger is the reason they needed a new furnace. I have attached pictures of the issues described.

At the customer's request we checked the upstairs furnace but found no problems and made no recommendations. We did however find the emergency drain pan full to the brim of water and the drain line clogged on the upstairs AC. The upstairs AC is only working at 50% capacity, but the customer chose not to make repairs on that system.

We made a second visit on the same day at 6:00 pm so that the husband and wife could be together to go over these findings and make the best possible decision for their home. They choose to replace the furnace and it was installed the next day, April 1.

I am sorry this customer feels we are using fear mongering in order to sell him a new furnace. We wouldn't have been in business since 1958 if this was our company's practice. We identified the problem, showed the pictures to customer, provided options to them and they decided to have it replaced.

The Technicians (Benjamin & Anthony) arrived on time. They introduced
themselves in a very Professional and courteous way. And without any hesitation, they started to do their work in a very organized way carrying the equipment and tools needed for the job. After they finished the job, I noticed that the area was very clean and neat (no messy or dirty). Lastly, it was giving to me all the information and explanation with details on how to operate properly the New System. Awesome Customer Skills Services.

Morris Jenkins & tech Michael F was recommended by a neighbor because if how nice and thorough he was during the inspection, cleaning, repair and price given. I am so glad I called and asked for this tech, Michael, he was all the above and then some my neighbors had told me. He found a battery going to a blower going bad and replaced after talking to me about it and explaining the importance of it. He represented himself and Morris Jenkins very well! I would recommend this company and tech to anyone!!!

Morris Jenkins' team of technicians are always professional, courteous and knowledgeable. Hot water heater busted they came out right away and put a new one in the next morning. Morris Jenkins is wonderful the guys were very nice.
