 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
We have never spoken to either of these men. The process was stalled by the company telling us they had to wait for a builder. We desire our deposit back as we emailed this company several times to cancel and never received a response from anyone except a Hanna S[redacted], who we were told no loner works there. This company did not get a garage done in a timely manner and we no longer can use their product as stTed several times prior to this.

Hello [redacted],
I spoke with [redacted] today concerning the completion of his project ( Bid #[redacted] ) After a few repairs, the building inspector assigned to that location stopped by and has approved the work. [redacted] confirmed the approval and authorized National Barn to charge his credit card account for the remaining balance. National Barn considers this complaint to be resolved.
Thank you,

Review: We signed a contract and sent the down payment in October, 2013. The contract stated that material would be delivered within 4-6 weeks and work to begin two weeks later. The material finally arrived and the main building was constructed in May. After several phone calls, we had our concrete done. Now we are down to missing two garage door. National Barn does not want to take responsibility because they have sub-contracted the doors to another company. I have been calling both businesses daily for the last three weeks. The door company has never returned a call or email. I occasionally get the secretary at National Barn, but nobody above that position will take or return my calls.Desired Settlement: We need either the building completed to the agreed contract or the contract amount settled so we can finish on our own.

Business

Response:

[redacted] building is complete. We are, in fact, not offering overhead doors in a range greater than 80 miles. [redacted] is being sent a Change Order being released of his responsibility of overhead doors being supplied by National Barn. He will be free to have overhead doors installed locally. This is a market driven change due to overhead door companies not traveling greater than 80 miles with the increased work load they have experienced, as well as everybody in construction since mid May of 2014. [redacted] can expect his Change Order within the next 24 - 48 hours releasing his liability on the overhead doors with us. Thank you.

Review: My initial call to national barn company was in May 2014. I sent the deposit of $3,635 on May 20th. After speaking with Ron B[redacted] (###-###-####) cell (###-###-####) I faxed the necessary paperwork and building permit to National Barn Co. I was promised delivery 8-10 weeks from actual order date which was July 1st which put it at August 30th. This is sept 25th and I still have no building. I have made several phone calls to Ron who is apparently on sick leave who advised me to call the company and have had nobody return my calls with any explanation of when my building will arrive or why it hasn't yet to date. I'm really disappointed and frustrated that I signed a contract for a service and I can't get what im paying for.Desired Settlement: ASAP.

Response:

National Barn is working to correct the lack of communication you are experiencing. We normally do not give out start date or completion times because the construction business is so fluid. As it stands right now we have a tremendous volume of customers that all desire their barns built by the winter. We understand this need and at this time we are working as quickly as possible to get these barns established. We are not willing to sacrifice the quality of our barns and rush through the construction. We will work to keep you better informed and issue a change order anytime a delay incurs. We do have a signed contract and agreement from you making this a legal transaction please understand that we have every intention of completing this barn with the quality promised.

Review: Ordered a pole barn in July with a signed contract and sent in a deposit. Tried numerous times to call for a delivery date and to get a copy of their insurance certificate to find out that they are no longer around. No one answers the phones or returns emails. I also never got a delivery date from them.Desired Settlement: Just want my deposit back

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: This is unacceptable do to how many people that they ripped off. I could be waiting for months or even years according to some of the people that have been waiting. I will be filing charges against Mr. T[redacted] of the Northeast division of National Barn.

Regards,

Review: I contacted National Barn back in March, and described that I was interested in purchasing a pole building from them to be installed on my property by them. This was all good and I worked with the employees at NB planning my building. I was told that this is much quicker and cheaper than traditional stick building and it would be a piece of cake and I would have my building within around 6-8 weeks from start to finish. this sounded great and I went ahead and signed the contract and made a 1/3 total price down payment. I wait about 2 weeks and finally receive my initial set of drawings, I take them to the local building department and submit for a permit. Around 10 days go by and I get a notice that the drawing must have a state seal on them to be acceptable. Ridiculous but I have no choice. I contact NB and inform them that I need drawings with the state seal on them before I can get my permit. They say no problem it's and extra $650 and takes maybe 2 weeks to get them done. No problem, I paid the $650 and then wait over 10 weeks to finally get my drawing with the required seal! 2 days later I have my permit and have my site excavation is completed within the same week. I contact NB and tell them that my site is ready and they can finally deliver the materials so we can get this building completed after all this waiting. They tell me that now I'm looking at around 8 weeks for delivery of the materials. What?? All of the waiting that has been due to the incompetence of their company and I'm the one stuck waiting again. This is unacceptable and very unprofessional. They also have the nerve to tell me that the reason that I'm 8 weeks out is because my site wasn't ready and they don't finalize the materials order until the site is ready for delivery. The reason that the site wasn't ready is because I didn't have a building permit to get the site ready, the reason I didn't have the building permit is because I waited over 10 weeks for the drawings to get my permit. All of the waiting has been due to National Barn with exception of the 2 weeks total from the local permit office. So from the initial 6-8 week start to finish here I am now 18+ weeks later and still have no idea when the materials will be here and the building complete. If 2 weeks turned into 10 weeks for the drawing then what will the 8 weeks turn into for the delivery?? I have things I need to do when this building is finally erected but by the time they are finished it may be too late this year, they have ruined my plans on this building for this summer with all of the delays they have caused. Will it ever get finished?? Very unprofessional and very disappointed.Desired Settlement: I want this building completed A.S.A.P. it's already way overdue. You took my money now get the job done.

Response:

In regards to [redacted]'s complaint, Our delivery system is based on "Eligibility" for delivery. It's a first come first serve based system that starts when your PDQ's (Pre-Delivery Questions) are established. This spring and winter for that matter, backed us and most everyone in construction up about 6 weeks from the normal beginning of the busy season. Meaning, many more were not ready during a more usual seasonal cycle. Then all at once many more were ready than usual from May-June. We've brought on more labor and like most are continuing to hire drivers to field this year’s unusual rush. The good news is we are pushing for our customers in every way to meet this year’s challenges, and extinguish the effects of last winter/spring. His "Eligibility Date" began June 30th and with our system that would mean approximately 8 weeks from that date would be your target delivery time frame. Sooner than 8 weeks is certainly possible, but that is the time table based on the system which is far better than others we've seen out there which are not as fair and effective as our own. The "Thank You Letter" and yellow PDQ card we sent out explain this. You can imagine the problems that would occur if there were not a systematic way to handle the ebbs and flows of volume, and its demands. During the heights of the economy in 2006-2007, we had Lead Times of 12-14 weeks plus. Customers didn't flinch because our quality and fair price remained steadfast. In response to your engineered drawings, in order to get these drawn up by the engineer we must have your door layout. Your door layout was not received until April 24. There are somethings that we as the company can do for our customers but then there are other areas that we rely on the customer. In this case the customer was the only one who could do this. This is all stated in the "Thank you" package that is sent out when you sign up. Due to the overload of this summer season we are trying our best and doing everything possible to get the materials delivered and builders out on site in a timely manner.

I am rejecting this response because:

This is the 2nd time I have submitted the complaint, I do not understand how it was determined to be a closed case. The problems are still ongoing with no end in sight. The promised 8 week delivery date is up and I am still being told that they have no idea when I will get what I paid for (when somebody actually returns an e-mail which is rare, I have copies) Why are they not being held accountable. Now 22 weeks into this mess. Please HELP!! Below is the original complaint. Review: We ordered a 24x24x10 barn with 9' shed from National Barn and paid a $3,630 deposit on May 3. We were told our barn would be scheduled to be built some time in June and would be given a firm date at a later time. In early June we were told a representative of National Barn would be onsite to lay out the building and dig the holes some time during the week of June 16 and material would be delivered Friday, June 20. As of today, June 26, none of the work has been completed and we were never notified of a schedule change. We have tried many times to contact National Barn to discuss this matter but we received no return calls. On Friday, June 20 we sent an email to [redacted], the Admin Asst [redacted] and the bookkeeper at National Barn to notify them we would like to cancel our order and receive a refund of our deposit. We continued to call and leave messages for **. [redacted] to confirm he understood we were cancelling our order. On Wednesday, June 25 we finally received a call back from [redacted]. At that time we notified **. [redacted] we would like to cancel our order and receive a refund of our deposit. **. [redacted] stated he was not going to cancel the order and would be sending materials to our site next week. We told **. [redacted] again we are cancelling the order and would like a refund of our deposit. **. [redacted] replied again he was not going to refund our deposit and would be delivering material and building the barn without our consent. We told **. [redacted] we were exercising the cancellation option that is written in the contract we signed but he still stated he was not going to honor the cancellation request.Desired Settlement: Refund of deposit - cancel barn order.

[redacted] and NBC have agreed to deliver and construct his building by mid July. The permit was received in house from [redacted] on the 27th of April. Our Lead Time is 6-8 weeks from the date the file is completed. We understand this building is something [redacted] wanted pushed ahead, and continue to do so. We look forward to completing [redacted] second NBC Building.

Review: We ordered a building from the co pany several months ago. A deposit to order the building has been paid. I was told in April 2014 our building would be delivered to our home in 30 days. It has been well over 9 weeks and we can't get anyone to return a call or deliver the building.Desired Settlement: I want the building we have ordered and paid a down payment on. If they can't produce the building ASAP, I want a full refund of my deposit and I will take my business elsewhere.

I am rejecting this response because:I finally had someone contact us on June 20, 2014, to schedule a delivery on June 26, 2014. I had to call the day before to confirm delivery, only to be told there would be NO delivery. Kristin informed me that Lowell, the owner, would be in contact with us in 24 hours. I have yet to receive a call from anyone and he will not answer or return our phone calls. I can't even say this is the worst customer service EVER received because we basically have received ZERO customer service from this company.

Response:

I, [redacted], have been the primary source of contact for my father-in-law. Due to age and health this issue has given him undue stress and his blood pressure has been elevated. First: Just about all of the delays are a direct result of the National Barn not doing their job. They are not a result of anything we have failed to do.

Second: I would like to know who you spoke with at Spotsylvania county? Everyone I have spoken with has maintained we can't build the structure due to an acreage restriction. There will not be an apartment in the building. That is an idea we had bounced around but due to his age and health, he is currently and will remain living in our home. (not that that's any of your concern) Third: Your "company" keeps bringing up these detailed, engineered plans we need. We HAVE them and paid the extra $650.00 for them. Check your records. Fourth: No one in the Tennessee office has misled us in anyway. They answered their phone when we couldn't get any contact from your office. I called them trying to reach someone at any National Barn, looking for help and answers, since we couldn't get ANY answer or call from your office. Fifth: We We had an agreement for the material only package since April 2014. This has yet to be delivered. It has been scheduled to be delivered numerous times over the last several months. The most recent delivery July 26th was missed. And we never received a phone call or a response to my email. What kind of "company" gives you an EXACT DELIVERY date (as my last email stated), misses it and doesn't even have the professional courtesy of a phone call?? Your company does that type of "business". There is no issue with us not working hard enough to get ready for our delivery. He did his part he PAID your company. Your company has not delivered the product, which is all your doing!! So, before you point fingers at who's fault all of this is, you may want to do some reasearch. I have every text message, phone call log and email between myself and the everyone I have been in contact with at the National Barn. I can show the numerous calls out, with NONE in return. The same for my emails. You can TRY to put the blame on your customer but I can PROVE otherwise! [redacted]

Review: On Feb 02, 2014 I signed a contract and made a 33% down payment of $18,996.00 to National Barn Company Lowell T[redacted], PA [redacted] for construction of 40ft x 60ft steel pole barn (garage). Build was supposed to start 6-8 (April timeframe). In April I contacted company president Lowell T[redacted] (C####-###-####) who explained they were behind and that my date for build would be in Jun-July. July 22 received partial delivery of materials (some wood only) per contract, my wife gave certified check in the mount of $16,239.50 . I immediately called company to notify only a partial delivery was made and that we were not given any kind of receipt of what was delivered. They informed me I would receive receipt within week or two and that the rest of materials & build would start within 10 business days (NEXT ON LIST). That should have been Aug 05. After Aug 05 passed I have not been able to contact National Barn Company employees or Lowell T[redacted]. None of my messages have been returned either. I did manage to track down his Lawyer [redacted] Pa. (###-###-####) 9/09/14 and he said he would try and have Lowell T[redacted] return my call. As of Sept. 20 I still can not make contact with National Barn. Have left messages but have not received no call backs or no materials received or work started.Desired Settlement: I would like all money refunded back to me.

I am rejecting this response because: I think I've been more than patient putting up with their multiple excuses including some of which they didn't pass on to you in their response. National Barn when contract was signed and deposit paid sent me paperwork stating build start 6-8 weeks. They notified me of all materials were to be delivered and give driver certified check July 05. Shipment of material was incomplete and to date materials have not been supplied. On my signed contract terms and conditions, there is no mention customer has to wait indefinitely because of weather, delays, company internal problems with employees or customer. I also makes no mention customer has to wait indefinitely due to company's on going legal problems . Terms and conditions of contract does state that any cancellation of contract must be in writing which I have done by certified mail. It also states National Barn is not responsible for misuse or acts of God. Them not being able to fulfill my contract is not an act of God. Suggest you also contact Detective [redacted] Penn. police department [redacted]>

I am glad to see a response from Mr. T[redacted]. I first talked to Mr. T[redacted] in September 2013 when he contacted me to see if he could assist me with any information to help me make a decision in selecting National Barn to build my pole barn. I again spoke to Mr. T[redacted] on or about 9 June 2014 in reference to delivery of building material and start of my pole barn, he asked that I contact his assistant/employee Ms. Rachel P[redacted] ( a very polite and nice young lady). I was to receive building material on 11 June 2014 - I was contacted by Ms. P[redacted], who informed me that delivery would not be made until 12 June 2013 because Mr. T[redacted] had drive making an unscheduled stop before my delivery. No product or building material was received on either date or to date. I have tried to contact Mr. T[redacted] at the very number provided as well as other numbers provided for National Barn Company. I have left five (5) voice mails since 11 June 2014 on his cell phone ((717) 309.7711)with no reply to date. I have sent an email with no reply to date. I would be pleased if I could make contact with Mr. T[redacted]. He has my contact information as well, which I will provide again, C: 937.471.0029. My contact information is on my contract paperwork he could have reach me at any time, he has more information on me than I do him. As for Mr. Jeff C[redacted], I have spoken to him. I contacted the National Barn in TN trying to find out if Mr. T[redacted] had a boss or if there is anyone higher I could contact. Mr. C[redacted] provided no advice or course of action. He never advised me to file a complaint, I decided to do that after Mr. T[redacted] would not return my calls or email. Mr. C[redacted] never recommended that I cancel any deals, Mr. T[redacted] has planted that seed with no return calls or email. Mr. T[redacted] claims he didn't receive all required paperwork from me until February, even at that, it has been four (4) months with no movement. Mr. T[redacted] please contact me, [redacted], I will keep trying to contact you. Thank you.

Review: 1st week of June we contracted with lowell thomas (owner of NBC) to build a pole barn. We gave him 1/3 down (3,531.00), on 6/16/14. He said the kit would come in 2 weeks and he would have the barn completed by the end of july or the 1st week of august. We have called him multiple times, he never answers the phone and never return his voice mail messages. Review: I filed a complaint about a month ago because we could not get the doors finished on our building. They worked to resolve this by releasing us from the contract. The problem is we had made a partial payment on the doors. I sent them a letter explaining this and they sent us a check. Now the problem is that the check bounced and we were charged a fee for this. They said they would take care of this and wire the money to the bank. That was about three weeks ago, still nothing and now they have again stopped answering the phones.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund in a certified bank check or money order to replace the business check which was returned to us plus the fee.

A check has been mailed for the partial refund and fee.

Review: On April 10, 2014. I signed a contract with National Barn Company to construct a 30x64x13 pole barn on a certain property located in [redacted] DE [redacted]. On April 23 the check for $16,704 for that contract was cashed by National Barn Company. We were told it would be 6-8 weeks prior to the materials being delivered then typically the barn would be constructed within 2-3 days. Since then we have been told on several occasions that it was going to start and never has. On or about June 19, 2014 materials were delivered to the property, these materials were old and not even the correct sizes or amount to build this barn. Throughout this time we have had little to no contact with National Barn Company and have been told the job was going to start numerous times and as of 8/28/14 nothing has happened on the property.Desired Settlement: I want the money that I have already given back to me

A contract was signed by National Barn and [redacted] Homes to construct a barn. We received the signed agreement and contract which made this a legal transaction. As stated in your contract delays due occur so the original contract will be upheld and a barn will be constructed as we agreed in the previous signed documents. We will be contacting you to go over the details and to get on the same page. To avoid anymore delays we will issue a change order anytime a change occurs wether that is due to a weather delay or any other type of delay that can occur. We look forward to speaking with you about the construction of your barn.

Review: My husband and I hired the National Barn Company to build a barn on our property. Everything was running smoothly and communication was great, until we paid the 33% down payment. Once the National Barn Company received our $13,827.00, communication stopped, as well as the build process. We have not received any materials from the company and they have not provided any services to us. They basically just took our money and disappeared. After numerous unanswered emails and phone messages, requesting a refund of our down payment, [redacted] (the owner of the company) has still not attempted to refund our money or build the barn that we hired him to build. The National Barn Company received our down payment in November, 2013. As of today, the National Barn Company has not even completed getting the Build Permit approved through the city.Desired Settlement: I would like to have a refund of the full down payment amount deposited into my bank account.

[redacted] was spoken to for delivery several times. We are not able to deliver until the permit is received and as [redacted] knows we do not pay or complete the permit process. Our customers are responsible for permits, which is standard construction practice. The [redacted]s have not given the permit office permission to approach them with questions to help them with the process anyway. I spoke with [redacted] and explained we have to use his custom ordered materials that are ordered for his building size and colors on another job if possible and it may take a little time to do so.

Review: I signed a contract/bid on November 25, 2013 and paid $6,080.00 for a pole barn and have yet to receive any goods or services from the company. Our estimator/representative told us that the building would be done in January when I signed the contract. Within six months, National Barn Company has sent me two additional contracts/agreements to sign, stating that they cannot order materials or assign a builder until they receive these signed contracts back. One Agreement was blank and I had to fill it in, the other was similar to the original, but bits of pertinent information was left out, so I had to write it in. I called the company to complain that the newest contract/bid was not the same as the original and was told that I had to sign it or the project would stall. When we finally hear from a representative, sometimes after numerous phone calls from us, we are told it will be another two weeks. After a month or more goes by, my husband starts calling again. On April 23, 2014, we received an email stating that they have assigned a builder and he will start our job after he catches up on all of his other jobs. At this point, it appears that this could go on indefinitely and because of the lack of communication from National Barn, and lack of returned calls, we are concerned that if we ever do get the building we will have no recourse for defects. We feel that we have been more than patient with the weather delays. The only time frame, that the second agreement/contract mentions, refers to Article 4, which is the buyer's obligations (ie. surveys, building permits, etc.) Our property is zoned Agricultural, the building is to be built in the middle of 22 acres of open land, which is pretty level anyway, but we leveled it with the tractor when the original contract was signed.Desired Settlement: At this point, we would like a full refund of the deposit and change order and a release of contract.

Review: I placed an order for a pole building garage on June 10, 2013 and made a deposit of $5,783 dollars. I also had to pay a $40.00 dollar building permit for my residence and to this day, July 8, 2014 I have not had any delivery of product and keep being told that they need to find a builder. We are moving this month and have a large area of our yard that was prepared for the garage that needs to be repaired for sale of the home. I have emailed the owner, Lowell T[redacted] twice to ask for our deposit back and cancel the order and he never replied back.Desired Settlement: We would like our deposit back as we were told the garage would be done last winter and nothing was done.

Response:

I will be calling [redacted] this evening. We are back logged from last winter but we also would have [redacted] delivered and built by now if not held up by the cancelation demand. We have her customer ordered color and size material that cannot easily be used on just any building. I would like to schedule the delivery for asap. And assign the crew leader to come and finish the building.

I am rejecting this response because:

We are moving and need to clean up property prepared for sale. We are leaving in the next two weeks

Response:

Building permits that expire carry a rate of $10-$12 per extension of time frames. An cost that is not exorbitant compared to the costs incurred by NBC when taking on a contractural agreement with our customers. We do work closely with our customers assisting the permitting process within reason. We will be glad to call and confirm the time extension cost with the permit office. Due to Jeff C[redacted] and Sam L[redacted] continued communication with customers in which they are misleading and the stigma it has caused I would suggest [redacted] continue on and not stall us from completing our work together.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

We have never spoken to either of these men. The process was stalled by the company telling us they had to wait for a builder. We desire our deposit back as we emailed this company several times to cancel and never received a response from anyone except a Hanna S[redacted], who we were told no loner works there. This company did not get a garage done in a timely manner and we no longer can use their product as stTed several times prior to this.

Review: We put a deposit on a barn. We're ready to take delivery and get it built. I have attempted to contact the company, it's owner, and the overall manager for national barn and none will answer or return calls from the northeast division.Desired Settlement: Contact me, deliver product and set it up.

[redacted],Our customer service representative, Rachel, will be giving you a call within the next 24 hours to review the PDQ questionnaire.

Review: When I first contacted this company everyone was wonderful, but after they recieved my first payment everything went downhill. After the first payment was sent I could not get in touch with anyone for weeks I left message after message with no return calls. I would have to continuously call until I got in touch with someone. When someone did call I was told my materials would be deliverd in two weeks but in actualality my materials had yet to be ordered. Now it has been about four weeks since materials were ordered. I did have a delivery date of 6/26 but when I called to let someone know I got a building permit I was told they would not be delivered on said date.Desired Settlement: I would like for the materials to be delivered and the building to be completed. I would also like to compensated for my time and aggravation during this process.

Response:

[redacted] has been aware of our policy and procedure regarding the building process and the terms of our agreement. This job is and has been on a reasonable time frame. [redacted] has recently provided the required documents in order to lawfully pursue building. The time between signing up for a building, receiving the deposit 5 weeks after, and experiencing the volume difference between winter, and spring/ summer has made [redacted] feel we are not on time, this is not true, and why our time frames in construction, which also depends on fair weather, are not predictable. We strive to move quicker than reasonably expected by every customer. No monetary reimbursement is justified or due for this job. I would ask [redacted] to consider the agreement as our forward due diligenc,e and politly realize we have and continue to press her job within reason toward completion.
