National Barn Company Reviews (113)

Review: I entered into a construction contract for a pole barn in September of 2013. Over the ensuing months I have had issues making contact with National Barn I call them every business day and leave a message asking for the missing building materials and for a construction date. The materials that I recieved are warping and turning colors, the cement bags have hardened and are no longer usable. I am missing the color coordinated screws for the buildings metal roof and 16 v-joists, along with the access door and the materials to contruct the three sliding doors to the barn. I have asked to be released from the construction contract so I could have someone else build the barn but have not recieved any response. I have paid the deposit and cost of the materials (though I do not have all of the materials). I have not yet paid the cost of construction. It has been over a year since I signed my contract with National Barn on a project that was to take no longer than 6-8 weeks for delivery and constrction.Desired Settlement: I would love a refund but would settle for the delivery of the missing materials and replacement of the materials that can no longer be used as well as a release from my construction contract so I can have the barn built by someone else.

Response:

National Barn is working to correct the lack of communication you are experiencing. Once the materials were delivered to your desired location full material payment was never received this did delay your start time. After materials are delivered and a payment is received only then do we send a builder to begin construction. I understand your concern over missing materials and damaged materials we will look into this and make sure the needed materials are delivered. As it stands right now we have a tremendous volume of customers that all desire their barns built by the winter. We understand this need and at this time we are working as quickly as possible to get these barns established. We are not willing to sacrifice the quality of our barns and rush through the construction. We will not issue any refund at this time. We will work to keep you better informed and issue a change order anytime a delay incurs. We do have a signed contract and agreement from you making this a legal transaction please understand that we have every intention of completing this barn with the quality promised.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: National Barn company was paid in full for all the materials yet all the materials were not delivered. They also charged my credit card for the construction costs whithout my knowledge despite not having constructed the barn in violation of the contract. I did not authorize the use of my card they kept my info and illegally added the charges. I have filed a criminal complaint against them in [redacted], Virginia.

Regards,

Review: When I first contacted Nation Barn Co. they were very helpful and enthusiastic about my barn construction (they answered the phone). On 7/24/14 I took the day off from work to meet with sales representative, Ron B[redacted]. Ron arrived with his wife and looked over the building location and wrote the sales contract. Ron told me and my wife the building would be completed in a month, that it would only take the contractors 2 days at most to construct. Ron stated the barn would be completed no later than September, and that "your barn will be full of hay by September." Ron left with my 33% deposit due at signing ($99866.34 check number [redacted]). They would order the materials to arrive in August and we would be scheduled after materials arrived. I called the office repeatedly beginning on 8/23/14, to get a status of my construction start date. No returned calls (they don't even pick up the phone). I reached out to Ron B[redacted] via email on 9/2/14. He replied that he would be in the office on Thursday, 9/4/14, and would get back to me. To date, no one from National Barn has returned my daily voice messages. Upon calling Ron B[redacted] on Friday. Sept. 12, his voicemail states he is out on medical disability. Repeated calls to the office and Lowell T[redacted], President, remain unreturned. I believe they "took the money and ran".Desired Settlement: I want National Barn to honor my contract and build my barn now, as promised by the sale representative no later than October 15 of this year.

National Barn is working to correct the lack of communication you are experiencing. We normally do not give out start date or completion times because the construction business is so fluid. Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: I would like the company to explain what they have done/are doing to "correct the lack of communication". I have never received one return phone call. I would like to the company to provide me with a construction start date, and stop blaming the "fluidity". The company has had my down payment for over 2 months.

Regards,

Review: Signed a contract and sent a deposit of $8,432 on June 3rd to build a pole barn and was told they could start the 3rd week in July, since late July I've made numerous calls to find out when I'm scheduled and was given lip service for another 4 weeks. Now all I want is my deposit back, I've been requesting my deposit back via call voice mails and emails but to no avail, they've never returned my calls and for the last few weeks when you call them you only get their voice mail. At this point all I want is my deposit back, not sure if they're even open anymore because no one ever answers the phone.Desired Settlement: Refund of my deposit of $8,432

Response:

Response:

Your request for refund has been approved. National Barn will be refunding your deposit. Please look forward to correspondence in the mail.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me under the condition that a refund is received within 15 days as of the writing of this response (10.3.2014).

If a refund has not been received on or before October 18th 2014, I will refile a complaint with the Revdex.com.

Regards,

Review: I purchased a building package from the above listed company on July,24 2013. The building was to be delivered around 6 weeks after the purchase date. I have had multiple excuses and reasons for delay in delivery. I still do not have the building and after last speaking with the owner of the company was to have the buidling by now.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of the down payment made and termination of any delivery. I no longer wish to have building package form this company.

Response:

[redacted] did buy his building in 2013. As of March 2014, his site was still not ready. [redacted] is on the delivery schedule. Please contact Mr. Lowell T[redacted] with any questions. He can be reached at ###-###-####.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: This is the same excuse and run around that I have been getting from the company. They have told me on multiple occasions different delivery dates that have came and gone. The reason the delivery was passed in march had nothing to due with the site not being finished, the site was ready, however was covered with snow and ice. The site was not suitable for equipment to go in and out without being stuck. The owner Lowell T[redacted] and I have had communications, with no resolve to the issue. He as well as assured me if delivery dates that have came and gone. I have attempted to contact both him and his representative with no resolve. They will not return my phone calls. It is my belief that Mr T[redacted] has no intention of delivering the building. I simply want my money refunded so we can go our separate ways. If further proof is required I have multiple emails that can be sent.

Regards,

Review: On 4/4/2014 I entered into contract with National Barn to construct a 40 x 60 pole barn and gave them a down payment of $7,324 on 4/10/14. I waited 2 1/2 months without receiving any phone calls or correspondence regarding when the company was going to start my barn. I called and was told by the secretary (or person that answered the phone) that it would be a week or two before they started construction on my barn. Three weeks after that, I still hadn't heard anything from them. I called National Barn and the secretary gave me Lowell T[redacted]' phone number. I spoke to Lyle and he said he would be sending my material out. On 6/20, half of the material was received on-site. In return, I gave them a half-payment of $3,717.25. I did not hear from them again until 7/21 when they delivered the other half of the material at which time I gave them another payment of $3,717.25. They sent a crew out on 8/6 which consisted of one gentleman who appeared to know somewhat of what he was doing and three young boys who were clueless on what to do. After one week of work, they still didn't have the framework up. At the end of the second week, they had partial framing up and set trusses. On 8/15, the crew left for a long weekend and did not return until 8/19. During this time the trusses had collapsed due to workers not bracing the outer walls and trusses. They claimed that someone had sabotaged the work site and they called the State Police. The State Police commented that the collapse was due to poor construction, not vandalism. Since this time, I have not had any correspondence with them to make the site safe or to remove the damaged material.Desired Settlement: I want my money to be refunded and the site cleaned up and all material removed.

It is not up to the customer to determine the quality of the crew or the correct way to construct a pole building. There are times when it is necessary to train people on how to properly construct buildings. The contract as well as the agreement, which both are signed, neither state the length of time needed for construction. In reference to the State Troopers being contacted, no report has been received stating the damage was a result of poor construction. The State Police are not qualified construction workers, therefor, they cannot make an accurate determination about the cause of the building collapsing.

[redacted] was sent an email stating we were going to pick up the materials from his site. [redacted] would not allow National Barn on his property without first having a signed agreement releasing him from the contract. He has since reversed all of his credit card payments, receiving a refund in full. Upon review of [redacted]'s file, National Barn has determined he is in breach of his contract/agreement, both of which have been signed. National Barn has sent a certified letter describing the breach to [redacted], with the request to comply, allowing National Barn to continue construction of the building.

Sent from my [redacted]

Review: I gave National Barn a check for $2459.00 on 4/14/2014 for a down payment on a pole barn. They said it would be a 8-10 week lead time. That was ok. It is now 10-15-2014, no building. In July& September I went up to their business office, with a letter, as per contract, asking for the return of my deposit. I was told they would not return it. The salesman (Ron) wrote a note on my letter that the building would be here on September 8th, then signed it. Since then, the company will not answer any phone calls. I need my deposit back so I can move on and have a real company build the pole building.Desired Settlement: Return my deposit, the company can not be trusted !

Review: [redacted] at National Barn Company was prompt and assuring with selling his building prior to my signing the contract and giving a deposit until February 2013 when I signed the contract and made a down payment I recieved drawings to submit to my county for a building permit. The county approved the building but made changes that the footings be larger and I faxed the changes to National Barn. When the deposit was made I was told that my building materials would be ordered and delivered in a few weeks after the building permit was approved. After not receiving materials and not receiving returned phone calls or status updates I began sending emails. I recieved a apology and was told that the extra concrete needed for the countys change would be taken care of by [redacted]. I was told once that the delivery date would be 4/8/13 with a build date of 4/15/13 to follow. [redacted] proceded to blame the delay of materials on our countys change to the footing. I requested materials come on a flat bed truck and not a tractor and trailer as the access is limited and the materials showed up on a tractor and trailer in May 2013 that broke several branches out of a ornamental tree of ours. [redacted] wanted payment for the materials but the trusses still had not been delivered. I told him I didnt think I should pay for materials until I recieved all of the materials including the trusses. He explained that the trusses were made and would be shipped when the builder is on his way as they should not be sitting out in the weather. The county required more concrete with the footing change. [redacted] sent a man to dig post holes for the building, the men came with a 12" rented hand held post hole digger, the county stated the holes be 18". [redacted] had said he would take care of the concrete and changes made by the county. The holes failed county inspection because they were too small and [redacted] said he would have to put in a change order that would cost us more money for getting the holes correct or we could fix it ourselves. We have invested over $500.00 in concrete and rentals and time off work to fix a problem he said he would fix. The holes passed inspection after we made them deeper and bigger in diameter and put a concrete footer in the holes.

The builder called and set a date to build and said it would take 2-3 days as long as it did not rain. I made the materials payment with National Barn so they would ship our trusses and the builder showed up on the following Wednesday, he framed the building less the trusses since they were not there, the builder asked [redacted] where the trusses were and he said they had not been built yet. He then told us that the trusses would be here the following week and he could not build any further without them. My husband took measurements of the frame and found that the building is crooked by 2". We told [redacted] about it and he said he would have the builder take care of it. When we told the builder about the problem he said he would take the boards off and move them to the correct location. We do not want to reuse the boards since they will be weakened by the quanity of holes but the framing nails. Since we got a 10 year bank loan for the building we decided to buy new lumber for the builder so he could put new boards on rather than the ones he messed up. We spent close to $300.00 on replacement lumber. When the builder left due to lack of trusses he started another job and said he would be back when the trusses arrived the following week. There were several rain storms that delayed the builder from finishing his other job however our trusses were delivered and have been sitting in these rain storms. [redacted] said if that builder could not get to us by this Monday or Tuesday that he would send a different building crew to our house. At this point due to the lies and delays I do not trust or believe him.Desired Settlement: I want our building finished and passing a final inspection with the county by June 28 2013. I also feel we should be reimbursed for our lumber, rental and concrete receipts of aproximatly $800.00 as this is nothing compared to time missed from work and the overwelming stress caused by this company and its unprofessional work ethics.

**. and [redacted]. [redacted] signed on February 18th and the permit for eligibility to be on even a delivery schedule took until April 15th. Two months spanning winter into spring. Being in construction our work load and consequent back log does change across this time frame as it always will. This was not desirable to the [redacted] but the permit release is not within our control. The [redacted] agreed to our contract which as normal speaks to delays from weather, material, permitting, etc. not be cause to be reduce the contract. It does in fact reflect a material increase is possible if we go passed the original 4-6 of time allotted from signing to building under our Winter Schedule. We spoke with the [redacted] and explained that any Reasonable, as determined by NBC material issues will be addressed by NBC. It was not advised to the [redacted] to buy any material, at any time. The crew is scheduled to be on-site this week to finish after weather related delays.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

1. Here is a summary of dates for 2013:

Review: I signed an agreement with National Barn Company on 3/12/14 and the contract on 4/14/14 for the purchase of a 30x48x12 pole barn. Along with my signed contract, I included a down payment equal to approximately 1/3 the total cost of the building. At the time of our agreement, National Barn Company quoted an erection date of 6 to 8 weeks. It has been approximately 17 weeks since my agreement was signed and submitted, and no building or delivery date has been conveyed.Although National Barn Company representatives have answered a couple of my phone calls and emails, most phone calls go unreturned and no building date has been established. The ultimate insult occurred on 7/2/14 when the president of the Company accidentally answered my phone call expecting it to be someone else and asked if he could call me back in 5 or 10 minutes. Of course, there was no return phone call. I selected National Barn Company based on their pricing and customer feedback. It appears that I have made a mistake because lower prices cannot make up for lost time.Desired Settlement: I ask that National Barn Company comply with its contractual agreement and erect my pole barn in the most expedient way possible. If construction is not initiated within 30 days, I ask that National Barn Company refund my deposit in full.If National Barn Company fails to abide by its contractual agreement, next step is to pursue arbitration through the American Arbitration Association in accordance with National Barn Company's signed contract.

Response:

In regards to [redacted]' complaint , Our delivery system is based on "Eligibility" for delivery. It's a first come, first serve based system that starts when your PDQ's (Pre-Delivery Questions) are established. This spring and winter for that matter, backed us and most everyone in construction up about 6 weeks from the normal beginning of the busy season. Meaning, many more were not ready during the usual seasonal cycle. Then, all at once, many more were ready than usual from May-June, which has now extended into late July. We've brought on more labor and like most, are continuing to hire drivers to field this year’s unusual rush. The good news is we are pushing for our customers in every way to meet this year’s challenges to extinguish the effects of last winter/spring. The "Thank You Letter" and yellow PDQ card we sent when you signed up explains what the "Eligibility" date means as well as our "Lead" time. You can imagine the problems that would occur if there were no systematic way to handle the ebbs and flows of volume and its demands. During the heights of the economy in 2006-2007, we had Lead Times of 12-14 weeks plus. Customers didn't flinch because our quality and fair price remained steadfast. We value all our customers and will continue to do our best to push through this crazy busy season in a timely manner.

I am rejecting this response because:

National Barn's response would have been acceptable if one were seeking to understand the overall business climate of the pole barn industry. National Barn readily accepted my deposit with the return of my signed contract on March 12, 2014 stating that construction would begin in 6-8 weeks. If I were not to be added to the queue until I was site-ready (May 2, 2014), what was the purpose of a deposit on March 12th? Over 13 weeks have passed since I was site-ready. The president of National Barn assured me that my barn would be delivered last week, however once again, it wasn't.My complaint does not question the quality of National Barn's products as I have contacted two of their former customers in my area and found that both are satisfied with the quality of their buildings. Unfortunately, what first came to mind when asked about their National Barns were lengthy delays and frustration with lack of communication. While other National Barn Regions receive a rating of "A" from the Revdex.com, National Barn's Northeast Region received a rating of "F", for good reason.Bottom line is 22 weeks after signing a contract and 13 weeks after being site-ready, when will my National Barn be delivered?

Review: National Barn Co., NE Division represented themselves as an Revdex.com accredited contractor and they are not. They represented that they are "fully Insured" and they are not. They have no workmen's compensation insurance or liability insurance which prevents me from obtaining a building permit from [redacted] County, PA. The owner, Mr. Lowell T[redacted] does not return telephone calls or emails. They have collected a down payment of $6,419.00 on November 27, 2013. I have a letter from them that I received on or about 12/12/2013 stating that my barn will be built 6-8 weeks from when I receive my building permit. In order for me to obtain a building permit my contractor, by state law, must have and provide to the building department officials a valid "Certificate of Insurance". Of course National Barn Co. has no insurance which means a building permit will not be issued.Desired Settlement: Refund my down payment of $6,419.00 as National Barn has violated our mutual contract and has taken no steps to rectify the situation.

Review: National Barn Company gave me a verbal start date of August 1, 2014 for the construction of my pole barn before I sent my deposit of $8,085.00 on June 9, 2014. The company received my check and deposited the money on June 11. I have made numerous phone calls to the owner, all of which have been ignored, unanswered or unreturned. As of this week, my inquiries are still being ignored. The company won't give me any information as to why they missed their start date or when they plan to start construction.

It is my belief that the company lied about their projected start date in order to persuade me to sign their contract. Since I needed to expedite the construction of my barn, I took the company at their word. If they could not start the project as promised, then I expected them to notify me in a timely fashion. I also expected them to answer my calls and update me about the situation. They are unwilling to deal with me in a fair and professional manner and now I have doubts about the integrity of the owner and this company.Desired Settlement: I would like my deposit back in full.

National Barn does understand that you were promised a specific start date which we try to refrain from doing as the construction business tends to fluctuate. We understand this need and at this time we are working as quickly as possible to get these barns established. We are not willing to sacrifice the quality of our barns and rush through the construction. We will not be issuing a refund at this time but we will work to keep you better informed and issue a change order anytime a delay incurs. We do have a signed contract and agreement from you making this a legal transaction please understand that we have every intention of completing this barn with the quality promised.

I am rejecting this response because: National Barn has never communicated with me since they received my down payment in Early June. I sent them a check on June 6, which was deposited on June 14. When I called to inquire about when they would begin construction, I was told that they would not proceed without a signed agreement. That agreement never reached me until July 16 and I never heard anything from them.
