submitted a claim to best best insurance. had to call several times and they would only pay $14.00 out of a claim of $6186.00

Thank you for allowing us the chance to clarify your concern. This was split into two claim (*** & ***) to separate Sky’s Myelopathy and Gastrointestinal Conditions. What you received was the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) relating only to the claim for the pre-existing undiagnosed neurological disorder (Myelopathy). The claim for Sky’s Gastrointestinal Condition was processed and finalized this morning and you will receive an EOB shortly regarding coverage and payment of $5,000 – the maximum annual limit under your policy. We apologize for any confusion during this process.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

From: *** Sent: Wednesday, January 8, 2020 6:04 AM To: Complaints Subject: RE: You have a new message from the Revdex.com

Good Morning.

Thank you for all of your help.

I’ve received an e mail from pet best ins, stating that they had process the one claim, BOTH” and they would be deposing the fund in my checking account within 5 to 7 business days.

***

Sincerely

Up until December I have not had any issues with claims processing. I submitted accident claims early in December for my pet which still have not been processed. (2nd and 9th) *** claims I submitted later in the month (19th) were just paid for basic wellness service before my claims previously submitted. I also submitted additional claims on December 28th, which I can understand may take a few days. But, I have pending claims now of approximately $1000 and have seen nothing other than $40. This company prides themselves in speedy claims processing of 5 days in most cases and they "understand" the hardship that veterinary expenses place on their customers. Every time I contact them, they tell me it's going to be even longer. And I'm now up to 35 days or longer. They keep saying thry have growth and my claim will be processed in the order received which is false because they processed my claims out of order already. This has caused a tremendous amount of financial burden for me and I'm waiting for their next delay of saying they need medical records now. I know it's coming. They can't even tell me anything other than claims were assigned to adjuster. I guarantee I won't see anything for months at this rate. And if your company cannot handle the volume as you've told me, that is not my problem. You should hire more staff. I see a ton of complaints the same as mine about your company. I'm also going to contact the Department of Insurance. Not all of us have the luxury of having extra savings to live from and when you promise speedy claims processing and don't following through it is very stressful on those less fortunate than others.

This company takes forever to pay claims, if they even pay on any, even small simple claims. Typical insurance company that is quick to take your money and not cover anything. They see everything as a pre-existing condition. Insane is supposed to be there when you need it the most, and that is not the case with Pets “Best”.

Hi ***, we experienced an unexpected increase in claims due to the growth of the company and the end of the year. Our claims are currently processing within 30 days and we are diligently working on getting back to 10 days for processing. Claims are processed with your veterinarians medical records. If we process a claim as pre-existing its due to the notes your vet sent in. We are sorry to see you go and wish you the best.

I have submitted 3 ignored claims to Pets best insurance. They just keep asking for more information when I have sent them everything. I have paid a lot of money for this insurance and they do not pay out and have taken a lot of my time

Claim number ***, Claim number ***, Claim number ***

I have contacted them repeatedly they asked for more information I sent it and then they ask for more or they just evade my request or give me an excuse as to why they didn't complete the claim.

We apologize for the delay in processing your claims. It appears that claims *** and *** have been processed and reimbursements issued on 12/29/19. Claim *** was submitted on 11/21/19. On 12/5/19, we requested records from *** Veterinary Clinic and followed up with the clinic on 12/12/19 and 12/16/19. The clinic emailed only an invoice history on 12/20/19, despite the requests stating medical records were needed. After advising the clinic that the pet’s examination notes (which are part of and included in medical records and the initial request), you were notified and stated you would contact the clinic again. We attempted additional calls to you on 12/20/19 and 12/24/19, but were unable to leave a voicemail. To date, we have not received the exam notes necessary to process this claim.

I have been a member of PBI (Pets Bets Insurance) for over a year now. I am extremely disappointed in the way I feel I've been taken advantage of. I've been in the process of appealing a $6,000+ incident for 7 month & have been told I need to continue paying my insurance payments in order to continue the appeal process. I also have been given so many instructions & false hope from the insurance agents saying "this should've been covered, the appeal is just missing xx information - resubmit a new appeal with this information & this will probably work" to receive the same results. Nova, my dog < 1 year old at the time, had 2 very large foxtails removed from her nose on 4/26/19. Immediately for about a month after, she had nasal discharge so bad that if she laid down, would have a pool of snot the size of her head around her after 15 min. Vet clearly stated to me this was concerning & could be more foxtail residue inside of her or infection from it, & was warned it'd be pricey but if I had appropriate pet insurance, it would help. I assumed I did, especially as her records clearly stated there was a huge change this was largely all from exposure to the foxtail exploration. Throughout the next month, she had several procedures to try & figure out the cause of this issue, which was extremely scary for a dog mother to go through & I was truly anticipating PBI would help me. Ultimately, my vet couldn't find a specific cause: found no further foreign bodies, no tumors, etc. but clearly stated this most likely occurred as a result to the foxtail exposure. We went into the procedures thinking this was due to the foxtail. My vet defaulted to the idea it might've been rhinitis, but now agrees since the nasal discharge went away on its own immediately after these procedures, that this was more likely due to inflammation from the foxtails. I truly believe PBI is using this one possibility in her diagnosis to deny this claim. I very feel taken advantage of as a scared dog owner.

The policy you purchased was an Accident only policy and does not cover illnesses. Under the specified terms of the Accident only policy, coverage is not available for undiagnosed illnesses. As explained in your appeal letter from 10/18/19, undiagnosed injuries are not eligible for coverage until an affirmative diagnosis has been made of an Accidental Injury. Furthermore, medical conditions such as Idiopathic Rhinitis are excluded from coverage as they are not accidental in nature. Unfortunately, under this limited policy, because your pet's injury has not been affirmatively diagnosed, no coverage is available.

Customer Response • Jan 06, 2020

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: the medical records also state the same saying they were "suspicious it was inflammation from the foxtail incident". I would have never taken the action to do these procedures if I didn't think they were a follow up result of her foxtail accident. I will return to the vet to get this in writing from them as well, as they can easily rule out rhinitis.

Sincerely,

***r

I wanted to express my sincere frustration with the claims delays with PetsBest. I did quite a bit of research before securing coverage for my dog, ***. My dachshund/Shihtzu mix (***) was in the final stages of her life when I purchased pet insurance, suffering from diabetes and Cushing's disease. We opted to secure pet insurance for *** due to the financial constraints ***'s end of life care had put us under.

In reviewing the PetsBest website, I came across the blog of "Why Fast Claims and Reimbursements are Important" (which is still on their home page, by the way). The article discusses how even a 7-10 business day turnaround can be frustrating; and discusses how a 4-5 week payback is unacceptable for a pet insurance company. Now that I find myself in need of your response, I find that the Pets Best response is exactly what the article describes as unacceptable.

The mission of Pets Best and the care that they appear to have provided in the past should be reviewed, and the course corrected. I take no comfort in having their policy at this time, and I am hoping for a speedy resolution to my current claims. In my opinion, a 30 day wait will NEVER be acceptable. I am fortunate that I can still provide for my family while we are awaiting reimbursement - others may not be so fortunate.

In reviewing what triggered Dr. *** interest in pet insurance many years ago, I found his story about ***, and the "economic euthanization" that he performed. Unfortunately, if I was presented with and estimate/ bill of several thousand dollars, even with your pet insurance, I would have to make that difficult decision myself, not knowing if or when my reimbursement would come from you all.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Sincerely
