I'm not impressed
I'm just confused how my savings amounts decrease almost everyday. So you may be thinking , it has to do with a late payment or me missing a payment entirely. Nope, not only am I current on my payments but I'm ahead. This wouldn't be a bad service if they didn't constantly take your savings and use it as interest fees regardless if you are current or not. Furthermore, they are slow to report updates on on-time payments via their own app as well as to the credit bureaus. Just my take on Self.

Fantastic consumer and fantastic customer service and DEICAATION I love the fantastic service they provide

Great service!! My credit score is higher than it’s been in years & still rising.

Excellent way to build credit.Fast , helpful and insightful.self coaches you every step of your credit journey.I highly reccomend it.

I didn't know this service was even available. I jumped right in head first and I do not regret it all. My credit score has skyrocketed in less than a year.

I love Self!! After my life imploded a few years ago, my credit was shot. This is helping me save money while build my credit - I could not be happier with this system. I make my payment every month, they report my timely payments. I have also qualified for their credit card, to further build my credit - any I love that they give helpful advice that is not to their benefit (ie: do not carry a balance forward). For a long time I felt helpless about my score, but this is one of several things I'm doing to get back on my feet. Highly recommend!

I am a recovering addict and have made many bad decisions in my past, including very poor financial decisions so it has taken its toll on my credit. I have made great stride to clean up the wreckage of my past and am now cleaning up the last little bit, my credit. With self, I have been able to start that journey and so far, my credit has improved more than I thought it could in such a short time. And the best part is, it’s not over yet. Here’s to the road ahead!

I heard about this program from a famiLy member. This is my second year in a row using self. Credit score up 134 points. And it feel me good to have saved so much .

Absolutely worth it! Can't believe how much this has positively affected my credit score! I recommend this to anyone, bad or good credit!

Very good way of saving and improving your crefit. It has help me improve alot

I signed up for Self 6-7 months ago. I did the $150 every month for 12 months and just a couple of months ago I opened a Self credit card with a portion of my savings. Since then, today I have went up 111 points. Of course that includes paying off 2 credit cards (not high balances) and paying down another below the 30% limit (also not a high balance). Im now in (good) credit score standing. Self is not just good for helping credit score but saving also. I plan to continue using Self as long as they are in business for savings and take half my savings to add to my credit card limit. I appreciate them very. Anytime I have questions, I can call get right through and have them answered. Please understand even when using Self, you still must be responsible with other payments that report to the credit bureau or you will only see little to no change.

self is not customer friendly they are say if I don't make a payment the will ruin my credit
friendly wow ask the to suspenied my account it this virus is handled and times are very hard
to me more important is food and utilities
I live on fixed income know especaily know with this virus it harder

Up until a few weeks ago, I am not able to contact self. I cannot reach them via the mobile app I cannot reach them via the w w w and when I call the phone number on the back of my card most of the services are all automatic and I cannot get through. What's mostly concerning is I am unable to login using the same information I've been using for the past several months. When I try to reset my password it comes up saying that they are unable to reset my password. I do not know if this is a long-term technical issue or if there is something more illegal going on but I need it resolved because now that I cannot access my account to pay April's payment, I am now past due. And this is at no fault of mine. Can you please help? I also have funds in there that I intended to leave in there for the duration of the contract, but after reading other complaints on your website it sounds like maybe I should pull my money if I am ever able to get logged in! My ultimate result that I want is to be able to login to my account and make my payments. Potentially depending on how I feel after I'm able to do that I may pull my money but I'd rather trust them and not. Please help.

Self Financial takes pride in swiftly solving customer issues and responding to the customer assoon as possible. Ms. reached out to Self’s customer success team via telephone on April27, 2020 stating that she was experiencing login issues. The representative that spoke to ourcustomer submitted a request immediately to have our engineering team review andinvestigate her situation. After a thorough investigation by the customer success andengineering departments Self Financial can confirm that the login issue lies in the device andconnection strength used by the customer. We have relayed this information back to her onApril 30, 2020 and suggested using a different device, such as a desktop computer, with stronginternet connection when accessing her account. Due to the challenge logging in experiencedby Ms. Self Financial and Lead Bank have agreed to remove the late payment that wassubmitted on her secured credit card.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

However, I would like it noted that although Self Financial, as indicated to me, is a web-based service, they should and quite frankly Must have a means to assist customers via paying a bill over the phone. It was only until yesterday that I was able to resolve my issue by downloading the latest version of Microsoft Edge, even on my desktop. It had nothing to do with internet connection, but some sort of security issue that as precaution my phone, iPad and laptop no longer would connect with Self.inc.

I thank them however for removing any late fees and keeping my account active.

Regards

I made a payment for 154.79 on April 3rd to Self, inc, my secured credit account. and it has posted to my bank account, and posted on the Self app too. But it has not posted to my Self account. I emailed them, and they responded that it has not received the money, even though I have proof that it did.

Self Financial Response • May 07, 2020

Self Financial takes pride in being transparent with our product and company information. Thepayment referenced in the complaint was submitted on April 3, 2020 to the Credit BuilderAccount and not the secured credit card. Our customer success team responded to thecustomer’s email on April 13, 2020 to understand the initial reason for the customer to contactus. On April 15, 2020 a representative for Self emailed the customer back to offer voiding thepayment in reference for the customer. After confirmation from the customer to void thepayment we took necessary steps to cancel the payment and return funds to the customer.

someone opened an account with this company using my elderly mother's bank account information. I would like to see who opened this account using this account (contact information on this person) and possibly prosecuting this person. I have not been able to contact this company and would like for them to contact me either by phone or email

We spoke with this customer via telephone to assist her in the claim. At this time, Self is conducting a thorough investigation with the customer to assist in the fraud claims presented.

Had this Self twice and paid off but this is my last payment in May, and wanted to see my payoff balance then it said thank you for your payment. I'm like WHAT.?. Called three times and it has no option to leave a voice mail. Or send message about this error. Today they did a chat and look into my account, and said the fee is a third party and can't get back. But last year I was one day late three times and didn't get a late fee charged . So after two years of completing my accounts it's coming to an end. Before you get this account look and ask about accidentally payments button or options. If they can't show you before getting into business walk away put money into bank and get secured Credit card.

I created an account with self lender to build my credit 09/08/2019. Around mid January I checked my self lender account and it showed a balance of roughly $443 left over to pay out of $526 insured CD I was approved for. I didn’t feel that amount was correct so I tried to cancel my account and was prompted to pay a fee for early cancellation which was not stated in the beginning of creating the self lender. I contacted self lender through email and was told I’d be able to cancel with no fee 02/07/2020 but my account wasn’t officially canceled until today 4/8/2020. Self lender has reported false information of a missed payment onto my credit report during the time my account should’ve been cancelled. I would like for self lender to be removed from my credit account to stop negatively reporting damaging my credit!!!

Self Financial takes pride in swiftly solving customer issues and responding to the customer assoon as possible. Ms. reached out to us via email on April 4th, 2020 asking to cancel heraccount and have the $0.12 early CD withdraw fee waived. Unfortunately, we are unable towaive the fee but did send back the cancellation instructions asking for her requiredconfirmation to close her account. Self Financial received an SMS message from Ms. askingto cancel and her account was officially closed on April 8, 2020 during a chat conversation thatshe had with a representative at Self.

Prior to the email mentioned above to cancel her account Ms. had not reached out to Self Financial about her account. All account communications, incoming and outgoing, are recorded/stored to ensure accuracy and can be provided upon request.Based on the agreement signed to open a Credit Builder Account, late payments will be reported to the Credit Bureaus when it reaches 30 days overdue. To help our customers avoid this reporting, we send customers emails at 1 day, 10 days, 15 days, 30 days, 60 and 75 days past due to make them aware of account status. Self Financial and our banking partner, Sunrise Banks, is required by federal regulation to maintain accurate & factual reporting, therefore, we cannot remove any accurate reporting that has occurred.

The support center encourages customers to write goodwill letters though there is no explanation, when requested on three occasions for a explanation or reason for decision.
To Whom It May Concern,
This letter is in efforts of goodwill for my self lender. I was laid off March 8 and other source a rental property that I owe a mortgage one is 1578.00 a month ( I rent out for 1775.00) I owe the 3.00 monthly. My tenants are in Africa as of March 13th, so I worry about tenancy. I have let go my property management company contract (March 31st)in Virginia to save and I am preparing for taxes( previously they were waived when I lived in it last year). My family is living on one salary 53(1549.00 every two weeks) though Jiffy Lube just shut three stores last week in St. Louis. We are paying 550.00 for the health care, just for the kids. I have lowered are costs, but able to catch up with the 50.25. Though are food and utilities have skyrocketed.I paid out 407.00 for electric and gas on March 30. Water was 125.00. Due to fees of removing property management I lost 1300.00, for breach of contract on March 30th. All information can be verified, my only income is disability and I am trying to be seen by the VA, however due to quarantine my appointments have been tremendously difficult for medical reimbursement( which is normally paid thru them adding another cost). I don't have a security deposit for my tenants since the property management took out there fees, so I am behind. For all these reasons we are in hardship, and continually receive a response from *** on Self .
I am asking consideration as my children are home till end the year, as well as. With the recent deaths and them being home.
I have had three deaths in my family from the virus COV-19 in the last three weeks. I can send documents- two made the New York Post -*** and *** - my great aunt great uncle. The third a cousin, recently past away in the last week.

Please consider my request. Thank you for reading my email. My credit is damaged but right now, I am trying everything as I wanted to give you clear picture. I'm case we have to down size to an apartment. If my tenants can't pay, I will have to carry the house and we will have to down size into an apartment.

Self Financial takes pride in remaining compliant and ensuring accurate reporting for eachcustomer. To help our customers avoid negative reporting, we send customers emails at 1 day,10 days, 15 days, 30 days, 60 and 75 days past due to make them aware of their account status. The customer opened an account with Self Financial on June 27, 2019 and entered into acontractual agreement to make a monthly payment of $25.00. Self Financial takes pride inensuring accurate reporting for all customers and offers our customers a grace period of 15days before a late fee is assessed on their account, and payments are reported to the CreditBureaus when it is 30 days overdue. The customer submitted the administration fee of $15.00successfully on June 27, 2019 successfully to open the Credit Builder Account. The customermade her January and payment prior to reaching 30 days past due but the payments due inFebruary and March were not submitted until April 8, 2020. We have reviewed this customer’saccount and confirmed that account statuses were accurately reported based on their paymenthistory with Self Financial. Customers can chat/call/email at any time to cancel their CreditBuilder Account for any reason prior to reaching 30 days past due, however, we do need toreceive the request directly from the customer which we did not receive prior to them being30+ days past due.

I wouldn't trade this company for anything. Easy to use, explains everything, no hidden fees and will help credit. I have the Self account and credit card. That's an extra account reporting positive history. Thank you Self!

Self claims they are a credit building service and in order to get the loan and build the credit they do ID verification, valid bank verification and consumer report review this is what their commercial says. However on November 18,2019 they opened a fraudulent account and issued a $525 building credit loan in my name. Once the fraudsters failed to make the payment $9 dollars to Self they reported this to the credit bureau. My 810 credit score which took me years to achieve has plummeted to 688. I first contacted *** which is what’s listed as the company who reported the negative account, and was told that Self Inc formally known as Self Lender is the company responsible for this. I then contacted Self as was told all the fraudsters needed to open this account was Name SSN and date of birth. I have a freeze on my credit report due to prior ID theft, And the address they list was not even my address associated with all my lenders. I been at the same address for over 20 years so now they listed a new address and No security flags or warnings go up? I also ask why would I apply to build my credit when I’m at 810 or higher? If they where Really doing consumer report reviews then they would have seen the freeze and then asked additional verifying questions from the report to verify that loan. But did they do any of that? Nope they went straight to the credit reporting agencies and tanked my good credit. I believe this is not a real company but rather a scam.

Self Lender takes pride in remaining compliant and ensuring accurate reporting for each customer. Self Lender and Lead Bank have received a copy of the police report filed by Ms. for identity theft. We are working together and in conjunction with the credit bureaus to update her credit report to reflect that the account was opened fraudulently and not by Ms. herself per her claim. We cannot guarantee a timeframe for the information to update as each bureau has its own process and timeline to publish information, but we have taken necessary steps from our side to reflect the accurate information.
