I am really struggling to understand how everyone can except Self Lender telling people they mailed their checks out to them and it takes 10 to 14 days to receive them, but it actually takes over a month. I was born in the United States and have observed the mail System for 31 years. Can someone please tell me what piece of mail in the history of mail takes a month to reach the recipient? I have recieved packages from Russia faster then that. The US post Office takes 3 to 5 business days to deliver most packages within the US and up to 10 business days to deliver huge items that require more strength to move around. Self lender would like you to believe an envelope witha piece of paper in it is taking 14 business days to travel through the mail? Am I the only person who thinks that is shady? I have waited almost a month now for my check and it has not come. I have looked up the reviews and everyone is saying it took a month for them to get it too. Im sure from the evidence you can see that self lender is not sending the checks out when they say they are. Businesses survive from being honorable. Weather or not I receive the check in the future that doesnt resolve the mailing practices and communication with clients on expected receive dates. I am so confused as to how Self Lender got accredited and how everyone is so concerned with their own check they wont speak on the fact that it just doesnt take that long for mail to move through the mail System. Can Revdex.com do an investigation on Self Lenders Mailing practices? Once the check is mailed its out of Self Lenders hands so are they saying the mail System just holds the check for 3 weeks then sends it? Its not practical. I suspect those checks are not being mailed out when the client is informed it is mailed out. Revdex.com needs to do better at Accreditation. You cant just give a business the trustworthy stamp and see 70% of complaints are aboutthe same thing and still not tell self lender to tighten up or lose accreditation. I was paying $153 dollors a month and only saving $122 a month. The fees along with lack of communication on self lenders behalf and the exuberant time to wait for the funds upon completion of the program doesnt make this company a favorite. Most people are attracted to the credit builder save money advertisement that self lender has but after conducting business withthem 96% of people say they would never do it again. How are they Accredited? I still have not recieved a dime in the mail and they told me my check was mailed out last month. I vote to remove its accreditation until it finds a system that works. The current system is simply a lie and has way to many fees. Your not saving money here your spending money more slowly thats all. Please fix this issue.

Self Lender takes pride in being transparent with our product and company information. Perthe timeline on our website, all owed customer funds are sent back to them in 10-14 businessdays. The customer’s account, opened on March 27, 2019 was closed per his request via emailon July 15, 2019. Once an account is closed after the loan period is completed, there is a 7business day hold to ensure all final funds are processed and settled successfully. During thistime, we work with our banking partner to unlock the CD and close the loan to calculate thecustomer’s refund. The customer check was mailed to the address on file on the 8th businessday, July 25th, 2019.We have spoken to this customer on August 8th, 2019 to confirm his mailing address on file inNew York, New York, which was confirmed by the customer and offered to send a duplicatecheck since the first one had not been received at that time. The customer declined having ussend a duplicate check and requested we verify the negotiation status of the check. Weprovided the verification “not cashed” via email on August 8th, 2019 at 5:02 pm as requested. We have spoken to the customer again twice on August 13th, 2019 via telephone. During thefirst call with the representative the customer again was unhappy that we suggested sending asecond check but stated he would update his address and call us back. On the second call, thecustomer requested that we send a duplicate check to a Syracuse, NY address for him.Self Lender has verified the negotiation status of this customer’s check as “not cashed” andsent a second check to the updated address by the customer on August 13th, 2019. All SelfLender checks are sent USPS First Class mail from Austin, Texas.

I am rejecting this response because: although I have received the check it could not be cashed. The complaint is about the time it took to recieve such funds and once recieved the check must be deposited and can not be cashed. I do not have a bank account to deposit the check. If I did I would have opted to have an ACH deposit instead of a check. This complaint wasnt to say they are keeping my funds so the explanation of the time is unnecessary. The check was mailed out july 25th I received the check August 16 and cant do anything with it because it cannot be cashed. So the problem remains

May 1, 2018 I started a Self Lender account. But I called them to cancel it before June 1, 2018. The customer service agent told me I wouldn't be charged nor will there be anything on my credit report. I found an account with Sunrise that I have been disputing with the credit bureau for months now. I recently found out that it's for the Self Lender acccount for 2018. I contacted Self Lender customer service and was told I had to pay the fees for 2018 to start a new Self Lender account. Then send a letter for the refund and removal from my credit report. In which I did. In the meantime Sunrise on behalf of Self Lender has reported I owe $29 on the account. Which dropped my credit 35 points. At the same time another company named Lead Bank on behalf of Self Lender report a new account. Which that's correct. I'm working too hard to rebuild my credit not have this happen to me. I need the account from 2018 removed off my credit report and a letter to provide the credit bureaus in case it pops up again.

Self Lender takes pride in remaining compliant and ensuring accurate reporting for each customer. All communications, incoming and outgoing, are recorded/stored to ensure accuracy and can be provided again upon request. Based on the agreement signed to open a Credit Builder Account, late payments will be reported to the Credit Bureaus when it reaches 30 days overdue. To help our customers avoid this reporting, we send customers emails at 1 day, 10 days, 15 days, 30 days, 60 and 75 days past due to make them aware of account status. The customer started her Credit Builder Account on 5/7/18 by paying the no-refundable administration fee of $12.00. On 8/26/18 the customer’s account was closed for 80 days of non-payment and was reported as closed/completed to the credit bureaus in September of 2018. We do not report accounts or any amounts to collections as our accounts are comprised of a loan that is secured by a certificate of deposit. We did not receive any communication from this customer to close her account prior or after the account being closed due to non-payment. The customer reached out on 6/26/19 to apply for a new account at which time she was asked to pay the remaining fees pending from her prior Credit Builder Account. We have spoken with this customer via email on 7/12/19 in response to her goodwill request email and have asked if there were any other phone numbers, outside of the number we have on file, that she could have used to call and cancel her terminated account. To date, we do not have any cancelation calls from the phone numbers she has provided to us. Due to this, we are unable to grant her goodwill request to remove the accurate information from her credit profile.

I am rejecting this response because:
Sunrise has recently reported I am $29 late. I don't recall getting continued emails. I have a new account that payment was just made on. Tell the business I will be calling as well as emailing that I do not want to do business with them so I want that account closed and my $91 returned.

They let someone open up a account in my name that was not me. They didnt even have my birthday correct! How can a business let someone open up a fraudulent account so easily? When I called them they said there is nothing they can do and I need to file a police report. I am doing that today, but again, how do you let someone open a account up with the wrong birthday?!? They said if the birthday is off by only a year or two they will still process. How could the actual person not know their correct birthday? Obviously it is because of fraud. This is having a negative impact on my credit score and it needs to be removed immediately.

Self Lender takes claims regarding fraud seriously and conducts an investigation in tandem with our banking partner to review and settle each request appropriately. We strive to offer excellent customer service and ensure that each representative is thoroughly trained to respond to customer queries in a prompt and concise manner. During the application process customers are asked for their DOB, SSN for credit reporting purposes, email, mobile phone number, etc. These personal identifiers are used to match their payment data to the customer’s credit report in order for us to accurately report the payments made on their account. Unfortunately, when a customer is applying there are possibilities for them to accidentally mistype their information such as a date of birth, name or other personal information. In theses we are able to update that information in our system to correct it. We spoke with this customer via telephone on 07/08/2019 and 07/09/2019 to close the Credit Builder Account associated with his information as he has claimed it was fraudulently opened. In accordance with our procedures for fraud claims, we have requested a police report and any documentation obtained due to the claim that identity theft has been committed against him. This information is necessary for us because we conduct a thorough investigation when a claim is made due to fraud to ensure that we can accurately update any necessary information for the customer. To date, we have not received this information to date to further our investigation. Once the information is received, we will complete an investigation and act accordingly. As necessary we will update information with the credit bureaus.

I am rejecting this response because:A police report number has been provided to you, and all 3 credit bureaus have removed from my report because you did not even have the correct birthdate. If you feel it is okay to open accounts with the incorrect birthdays you should not be in business. Again, you have the police report number and can pay to get the report. Bottom line is, your customer service team told me there is a grace timeframe for the birth year when applying. If someone was really applying they would know their correct birthdate.

Self Lender's compliance team reviewed the fraud claim submitted by this customer and worked with our banking partner to submit a deletion of this account from his credit due to a fraud claim and the fact that after the administration fee, no successful payments were submitted. During the application process, customers are asked for their DOB, SSN for credit reporting purposes, email, mobile phone number, etc. These personal identifiers are used to match their payment data to the customer’s credit report in order for us to accurately report the payments made on their account. Unfortunately, when a customer is applying there are possibilities for them to accidentally mistype their information such as date of birth, name or other personal information. In these cases, we are able to update that information in our system to correct it as typos do happen when typing in personal information.

I had an account with self lender as of 10/01/2017 at I had called in to close the account before it could report late to the credit bureaus they never closed the account and it reported late

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We know that financial situations and credit are hard things to navigate and it fuels our motivation to grow and better ourselves to continue serving our customers!

A misleading email caused confusion on 6/13/2019. On 6/13/2019 I attempted to pay self lender early for a billing statement not yet due. After submitting an ach payment, I received an email stating that the funds would be deducted from my account on 6/13/2019. Understanding that the funds were to be immediately deducted via the email statement, I paid two additional months ahead of their scheduled due date. Emails for those two transactions made the same claim. Unfortunately, the claim did not happen in fact the funds were not attempted to be deducted from my account on that date, the next day or several days after. I finally contacted support requesting that the payments be voided and was told that they could not be voided. For safety precautions, I ended up moving the funds for the payments to a savings account. It wasn't until 4 days later that self lender attempted retrieval of the funds. The funds were already moved at the time and the payments were returned to self lender. Self lender then charged a $15 fee for each returned transaction. The emails from self lender state the following:

Thank you for your payment to Self Lender. Payment ID xxxxxxxx will apply to your account, pending final authorization from your bank. The electronic debit in the amount of $25.00 will be deducted from your bank account on 06/13/2019.

Self Financial Response • Jun 27, 2019

Self Lender takes pride in being transparent with our product and company information. Per the loan schedule, the customer’s account is credited the funds on the day that funds are submitted pending final confirmation from the customer’s bank. ACH payments submitted from a checking account, generally take 2-4 business days to process. Payment status on Self Lender automatically updates after 7 business days. It's at this point that we can generally assume that the payment is successful if it has not been returned by the customer’s banking institution. Self Lender is only able to void submitted payments before 5 pm CST on the day they are submitted prior to us sending the funds request to the customer’s banking institution.

As the customer’s complaint states we do send a payment submitted email each time a customer submits a payment to Self Lender that states “Thank you for your payment to Self Lender. Payment ID XXXXXXXX will apply to your account, pending final authorization from your bank. The electronic debit in the amount of $25.00 will be deducted from your bank account on 06/13/2019.” We submit eh request to the customer’s bank on the day that the payment is submitted, but we must wait for the customer’s banking institution to honor/deny our request for funds. As stated above it typically takes take 2-4 business days to process these payments through the customer’s bank.

During the time that the customer’s banking institution was processing the payments funds were removed from her account and placed in another account as she has stated. This caused her bank to reject our request for funds and return the payments as failed for insufficient funds.

As specified in the loan documents, “I will pay a fee to Lender of $15.00 if I make a payment on any loan and the check or preauthorized charge with which I pay is later dishonored.”, there is a returned item fee anytime a payment made from a bank account fails. Unfortunately, we cannot override the failure code that is returned to us by the customer’s banking institution.

I haven't hard self lender for very long. While I had it, it wasn't bad. I was told by my morgage broker I needed to reduce my debt so I needed to pay things off. So I paid off my self lender account early (which there website state is okay to do and they will pay the money back when its paid off). It has been almost a month now and I still have not received my money.

Self Lender takes pride in getting all owed customer funds back to them in 10-14 business days per the timeline on our website. The customer’s account, started on 1/12/2019 was completed on 6/1/2019 upon receiving the final payment. When an account is closed or completed customers will receive any funds paid in minus interest due on the loan and any late/returned payment fees. Unfortunately, since the account was completed early and a payout option was not selected, therefore, the CD was not closed to be processed out. We spoke with the customer on June 14th, 2019 to close her CD and start processing out the refund. This customer’s refund is scheduled to be sent on June 26th, 2019 to the bank account on file.We have reached out to the customer on June 18th, 2019 to confirm again the date and method that her funds will be sent.

I've been working with this company for 6 months, and in that time they've twice charged me $15 fees due to their inability to charge one of my accounts. They claim that there's a problem with the bank, but this is false. I use the same bank, with the same account and routing information, to pay several other bills. I have repeatedly checked the numbers, even going so far as to remove and re-add the payment method, with no change in the circumstances. Self Lender is the ONLY one who has this problem at all.

Further, their staff is rude and unhelpful, refusing to acknowledge their mistake or to refund their erroneously charged fees.

Self Lender takes pride in remaining compliant and accurately following all guidelines as outlined in the terms & conditions and loan documents which are agreed upon at account creation. On two separate occasions, payments submitted by Mr. were returned unpaid due to ‘unable to locate bank account, this resulted in two $15.00 returned item charges.

We have spoken with this customer starting on June 11, 2019 in response to his emails to explain the reason for the payment failures and attempt to assist in clearing up any confusion. Self Lender takes pride in offering excellent customer service and ensuring that each representative is thoroughly trained to respond to customer queries in a prompt and concise manner. We apologize for any experience with less than excellent interaction with our team and welcome the feedback to ensure growth and learning.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

First, Self Lender is wrong. I have verified my account numbers repeatedly, and they are *correct*. Additionally, I use that exact account info to pay several other bills, and NONE of the other providers have problems with it, period.

Second, Self Lender, in the time since this complaint was made, closed my account WITHOUT appropriate authorization, and then further lied repeatedly to me, claiming I'd confirmed I wanted my account closed, which I DID NOT DO. See attached screenshot.

I want my account reinstated immediately. If it doesn't happen, and the closure goes on my credit report, I'm taking Self Lender to small claims court. I already have the paperwork in hand.

We receive the failure codes back from the customer’s banking institution and unfortunately, we cannot override the failure code that is returned to us. On two separate occasions, payments submitted by Mr. were returned unpaid due to ‘unable to locate bank account, this resulted in two $15.00 returned item charges. We received an email stating “Tell you what: if you won't waive the fee, then terminate my account NOW and refund what I've paid in. Your policies are beyond outrageous. I use that EXACT account to pay NUMEROUS other bills with NO PROBLEMS. Your institution clearly is incompetent.Refund the fee or terminate my account NOW. There will be no more payments if you don't refund the money you STOLE, and moreover, I'll use every social media channel I have to tell EVERYONE exactly the kind of bad business you are. And that, in case you're wondering, is THOUSANDS of followers. I will further file complaints with the Revdex.com and leave negative reviews on every single one of your apps and profiles.”.Per the customer’s request his account was closed. We have let this customer know he is welcome to open a new account at any time if he wishes to do so, but we are unable to reopen a closed account as the loan and CD portion of the Credit Builder Account are both closed and he has been sent the owed refund.

I have fulfilled my contract with Self Lender. I have paid on time and I have also paid in advance. When I went to cash they sent for my payout - it was declined by the merchant which was Walmart. I am unable to cash my check now.

This company is taking 10.00 out a month from my loan and didnt tell me!! That's 120.00 in the year...Also my credit score Did NOT go up as they said it would, it went down! STAY AWAY!!!

This company is taking $4 every month from my payment towards my loan. They should not be doing hidden things and also its like paying for our own money that we are saving the only fee they was to charge was the admin fee and not a monthly fee. I want my money and also a refund from all that you have taken

Self Lender CS told me that they would CANCEL without a penalty, and IF I proceeded with the account close it PRIOR to it ever being reported late as the entire premise was to improve credit. They did not cancel it. They left the account open and then reported late payments, which damaged my credit.

Self Lender takes pride in remaining compliant and ensuring accurate reporting for each customer. All communications, incoming and outgoing, are recorded/stored to ensure accuracy and can be provided again upon request. As a one-time courtesy, our banking partner has agreed to remove the reporting from the customer’s credit report. Self Lender takes claims regarding fraud seriously and conducts an investigation in tandem with our banking partner to review and settle each request appropriately. In accordance with our procedures for fraud claims, we reached out to this customer on 4/5/2019 and 4/15/2019 and requested a police report and any documentation obtained due to the claim that fraud has been committed against him. This information is necessary for us because we conduct a thorough investigation when a claim is made due to fraud to ensure that we can accurately update any necessary information for the customer. Unfortunately, we have not received this information to date after multiple attempts to request the documents to further our investigation. Once the information is received, we will complete an investigation and act accordingly. As necessary we will update information with the credit bureaus.

As of February I have completed my obligation as far as the payments so I am due to be paid out 3/6 and I can’t get ahold of anyone! I had seen the reviews before I joined but I was talked into becoming a member. They really did nothing special to raise my credit score & all my payments were on time. I did most of the work myself! I am waiting to see when I will receive my disbursement & I will repost once it happens but right now I will not refer this establishment to anyone due to the lack of communication & transparency

I fully completed my 1 year Self Lender credit builder account with NO exceptions to the requirements f the account. however, now three (3) weeks since doing so, have not yet received my cash disbursement check. FURTHER - and BUYER BEWARE!!! - they have reported my account as 'CLOSED' to ALL credit bureaus as such it has LOWERED my Credit score by 33 points across all the bureaus! DO NOT use this company unless you want it to happen to you!!
I called them, of course; an un-informed customer service rep simply said that there was nothing they could do. How crazy is that!
STAY AWAY - RUN!!!!

Once an account has been paid in full Self Lender reports the loan as completed/paid in full to all three credit bureaus. When the data is sent to the credit bureaus by our banking partner a loan that has been paid in full translate to a “closed” tradeline as it no longer requires funds to be paid in or any further activity as it is complete.
Self Lender has verified that the check mailed to Mr. C has been cashed and processed through our bank account on 2/14/18.

This company double-dipped into my checking account, paying themselves twice.

Self Financial Response • Feb 15, 2019

Self Lender takes security and customer account information seriously. Our system will only draft an automatic payment once per the scheduled date. In this case, our customer had autopay enabled and it drafted per the scheduled payment date and then Mrs. Alford logged in to make a manual payment. Management was able to contact this customer to explain the situation to which she notified us that she was able to contact her bank and stop the second payment that was manually submitted.

AWFUL.
STAY AWAY. DO YOURSELF THE SERVICE AND AVOID THIS SERVICE
The loan process is chill and easy but after. Is what means stay away, I opened this account last January knowing I had a vacation in February.
My CD matured on January 5 and for some reason it took until January 17 for them to send it out and they (maybe) mailed out my check (possibly) first class mail. And it’s been 14 business days ( 16 if you include the days no mail was being delivered due to weather)
It has yet to arrive. I am supposed to be on a plane tomorrow for my vacation. With ZERO extra money.
No option to call them to talk about it simply have to submit for a callback or chat. Strike 1
Strike 2 only have the option to get on the list to have a check sent out again first class mail. Joanna says due to policy and procedure no help is available to me because the check hasn’t made it back to the office. And that there are no exceptions ever.
Strike 3. When I reasonably suggest overnighting; or electronically transferring (which amazingly is an option once they screw up and the check comes back to them and is how they have taken my money up til now) but not an actual option until they have the check in hand...:
So me not having a check in hand 14-16 business days later. MEANINGLESS
But THEM not having a check in hand means I literally have no options and am screwed on money for my vacation.
WORSE. THAN. COMCAST.

Unfortunately, this option was not selected for Mr. F, therefore, a check was sent.
When Mr. F reached out he was informed of company policy to wait 7 business days to allow his check to reach him and if it was not received we would be happy to send a duplicate or initiate direct deposit upon receiving a returned check. Management reached out to this customer on 2/11/19 to speak with him regarding this issue to which there was no answer and a voicemail was left.

I paid Self Lender monthly to Invest and Build credit for one year. And the End of the year I was supposed to get a check for what I put in. $502.00 Its been 3 months and they have not paid me. Kept making excuses. Saying checks sometimes dont get sent out. Then they made a mistake, and when I finally get a check 2 1/2 months later it bounces. I just want my money

Self Lender has verified that the check mailed to Mr. has been cashed and processed through our bank account on 12/03/18.

My experience has been frustrating & disappointing. They mislead you advertising they are mentioned by the Revdex.com (Revdex.com). Look at their complaint list. They mislead you by saying they are a credit builder and no credit history needed and you are not approved due to not having credit history. When I made a complaint to the Revdex.com of inability to reach customer service on the phone due to saying they have office hours Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. I called various times to their number and did not receive a response at those times. I received an email providing another number to authenticate & they claimed their customer service was 24/7. When you called out for their misleading saying you need no credit history, they mention they offer other services like credit monitoring. Credit monitoring is not what this company advertised in their website as their main product. They say to have a freeze on your credit bureau and this needs to be temporarily lifted. This company had suspicious behavior and it seems to me is a scam.

Self Lender takes pride in being transparent with our product and company information. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 am – 5 pm CST and during this time our phone lines and chat feature are live to allow customer contact. In addition to these hours our email inbox is open to receive emails 24/7 and are responded to during business hours. Per the disclosures on our website, our customers are not required to have a credit score, however, it is noted that all approvals are “Subject to ID verification”. Identification verification is verified using information from a customer’s credit profile which is required to ensure we are able to accurately report which is a large purpose of our Credit Builder Account.*** is not a current customer of Self Lender due to our verification team’s inability to adequately verify identity, per regulatory requirements we need to validate all customers identities per our customer identification program. Credit monitoring is not a service that we offer separately to consumers that cannot be verified, rather it is a free service we provide to our members. Members then have the ability to apply for Credit Builder Account. Getting an account is subject to our bank partners underwriting criteria. No funds have been requested or accepted from this individual as we are unable to authenticate her through our required identification procedure.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Not sure why I cannot change my payment due date!! I don’t have the funds and need more time!! When I log in it won’t even let me close my account and get my money!!!!

Self Financial Response • Jan 25, 2019

We are unable to change your actual due date, but we do offer flexibility to make your payments. You will not be able to set up autopay for a date after your due date, but if you need to make a payment after your due date please log in and DISABLE your auto pay. Once this is done you can log in and make a manual payment when you are ready. ??There is a 15 day grace period before a 5% late fee is assessed to your loan account. Your payment will be reported to the Credit Bureaus as late when it is 30 days overdue.??
