Synchrony Bank (Formerly GE Capital Retail Bank) Reviews (993)

I get paid the third week of the month. This bill is due the third week of the month. My bill is $65 a month. I am disabled. Late charge in August total $90. I paid $90 in August, then paid two weeks later, $65 to be applied to September. (Getting one month ahead so that I won't have late charges anymore). They charged me $101 this time. Said that I cannot send payments in more than 22 days ahead because the computer doesn't know there is a bill yet for September. Trying to do the right thing, and cannot get out of this hole. I am not trying to cheat. I am trying to pay ahead. So they think I paid two payments in August and applied them both to August. Other charge cards do not do this. I pay all bills when I get my check, but have to remember 'don't pay these guys, just save the $65, which is hard to do and mark the calendar to pay 22 days before the due date. Stupid.

I was given information about a potential financing opportunity from the mechanic that services my car. I brought the information home to call you with some simple questions I have. When I called your customer service line (of which I could only find the telephone number online), I spoke with a very rude man who had spoken with very broken English. I explained that I had some questions and asked if he could help me. He asked what my questions were. I explained the first question about your company's financing. He responded with questioning why I needed to know that. I was caught off guard and asked to speak with a supervisor. He asked why I needed a supervisor. I calmly asked for a supervisor again. He said that was not needed and he could take the application over the phone. Again, I calmly asked for a supervisor. The line went dead to a touch tone sound, where I was put into what I believe is a account manager call hold. I waited on the line for 45 minutes with no answer. I finally gave up and disconnected the call. Interest rates, fees, and company protocol are only some of the dynamics I consider when I open any account with anyone. How I am treated before I open the account the larger part that usually helps me to make a determination. After being treated very rudely, and placed onto a cold hold, I have come to the regretful decision that your company is not a brand I want to do business with. With a very disappointed attitude, I also feel the need to inform you that I will be leaving the same review and on social media.

I bought my furniture in [redacted] and Synchrony Bank finances it. I settled automatic payments through their website so I would not have to be worry about it.
After one year making my payments automatically "automatic payments" got canceled in their side (the software won't allow you to keep doing automatic payments after one year!!!!), and they did not alert me in any way!
Now I'm late for the last two months of my debt and no one know what Department to contact to verify if that information was sent or not to the Credits Bureaus.!
What a joke of company!

This Synchrony Financial Credit Card provider is run by a bunch of thieves. I bought an air cond system with a delayed interest for one year. The air conditioning company selected this oufit to provide for my financing. Upon receiving my monthly bill I was surprised that this financial institution charged me $29 for a credit card activation fee. I have had plenty of credit cards from varying financial intitutions. None of them charged me a cent in activation fee.

Beware!!! This outfit charges an activation fee for every new credit card.

I'm having financial difficulities at the moment. Medical bills and taxes to be precise.

My account is 2 months past due. I called to make some kind of arrangement. Long story short, I was told they would not offer me any debt management plan.

Coupled with the collection calls made by people who do not speak English coherently, I am higly upset with them.

OMG the worst customer service EVER! I just recently signed up for Care credit card for my dog veterinary service and AMAZON PRIME store card. Im trying to go online and sign up for the online site so that I can manage payments and view statement. However, they have my REALLY old phone number on file (I don't even know where they got it from) and keeps wanting to send text verification to my old phone. My only other option to sort this is to call customer service and they are not knowledgeable keeps putting me on hold for hour to a point where I get exhausted and just end up hanging up. I called the number on back of the AMAZON credit card and they are forcing me to listen to survey and advertising and won't let me bypass it and keep going from one ad to another. It's TERRIBLE!

I will be closing all of my accounts owned by Synchrony. I called to ask about the interest rate on one card that is ridiculously high as I have good credit, have always been a good customer and I was told they don't negotiate lower rates. Well then I won't be using you anymore.

I would never recommend Synchrony Bank to anyone! They made life hell for me for nearly 1-1/2 yrs. I purchased 2 bar stools and put it on GE credit. Somehow they didn't get my full address so I never received a statement. In the meantime GE became Synchrony and I was turned over to collections. When I discovered that my credit was no good I had to spend many hours trying to figure out what had happened and who was holding my account. Each time I contacted them I was told that it was being worked on but I never got a definitive answer. My file had been passed from Synchrony to Portfolio and Assoc and back to Synchrony. I finally turned it over to Revdex.com and in time--with--their help--I managed to get my credit rating back. Horrible company!!! I am not a disgruntled customer --I just don't want someone else going through what I did.

I have a Kawasaki motorcycle loan with GE company and have been on time and current. I asked for a payment extension due to a financial difficulty I was experiencing. I went thru the process of speaking with different agents regarding my situation. Finally, was approved and was sent paperwork to sign and send back to them which I did. They finally received the paperwork and I was told I was disqualified because I put an invalid date on the paperwork. Then I was then told I was not approved because I did not make the payment in time. I went ahead and made the payment with funds that I really didn't have just to be "re-approved". That ended up being a lie on their part because they really did not re approve me for the payment extension. Nothing but lies and poor customer service from this Synchrony Bank company. I am very dissatisfied with how I have been treated during these difficult times.

I had this bank for 2 of my cards, Walmart and Home Depot. For both I was paying beyond my minimum pay every month to pay off quickly. Somehow I got a letter from Home Depot saying they dropped my credit limit from $2500 to $250 ( I only owed $130 of a $730 purchased I made and I was paying for 6 months my goal was to pay the $730 in 6 months and I was on the right track) My Walmart card, they just sent me an letter saying they were closing my account, I didn't use my card for the past 3 months. It is only destroying my credit.
Now before I open an account anywhere I asked who the bank is before I even apply.
They SUCK!

1. I paid my bills on time yet they tacked on a $25 late fee. 2. It takes them 24-72 HOURS to post updates / payments to your account. 3. They win first prize for the all-time worst automated customer "service" system ever. You have to answer so many questions to get through the phone tree, and then they waste your time giving you your account information that you already have, or that is not current that you end up screaming "CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!' into your phone a hundred times before you ever get to talk to a "customer service:" agent. They excel at customer dis-service. 4.Their link for customer service CHAT on their website doesn't work. 5. As soon as I can verify my account is paid in full I will cancel my card and be thankful I will never ever have to deal with them again. They give less than a rat's [redacted] about their customers.

Stay as far away from this deceitful company as you can. Did a $6500.00 0% promotional purchase through Briggs and Stratton and set up autopay. Autopay was 3 days late and took the full amount, $6500 When I talked to customer service they told me I could get my money back in 2-3 weeks but since promotion had ended it would be at standard interest rates, 20+%. Going to leave it paid off just so I don't ever have to do business with them again.

I have never been treated so poorly by a bank on a repeated basis in my life. I have never dealt with a bank that has made as many errors on CDs as Synchrony. I have never had to wait on the phone repeatedly for as long as I have with this bank. I have never ever been with a bank that is this bad in the level of concern with actually treating the customer as a valued asset. I have never seen a bank that makes so many claims about how they value customers and then appears to me to disregard there own advertising. I have never had people in other banks I have done business with tell me they would call me back and then not and/or ignore additional calls asking that they call me. I have multiple CDs with them adding up to a fairly substantial sum and yet they still treat me poorly. Make your own mind up about Synchrony as to whether you think it is worth the hassle to do business with a firm that does not value you.

Never in my life have I been penalized for paying a bill on time and ahead of time. These is sent me a bill to pay a minimum of 73.00 I paid 300.00on Jan 13th. ..when the bill came in for Feb I pd another 300.00. On Feb 11th I was told I owed another 73.00 dollars for Feb. I contacted CUSTOMER NO SERVICE aND was told by Kate it would be adjusted and my next payment would be for March. Now the total bill originated at 2253.85 with a min py of 73.00 a month payable in full my 2018,I've paid1653.85 and have been turn to collection agency...RIDICULOUS...I'll NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THESE is AGAIN!

I'm currently a Synchrony customer and as of today was happy with the service. I wanted to use the care credit that I applied for a little over a year ago but found out through a customer service rep that my account has been closed due to inactivity. I will not re apply for this care since it does run a credit inquiry. The least that could have happened was we received a letter stating my account has been closed. Nothing is worse then relying on a service then having it fail completely.

I opened a home improvement account this past June . I think someone needs to take some courses in math ; I am financed for $ 10.3000 to be paid off in eighteen months. , my payment is $ 259.00 a month ( I am paying $ 275.00 ) If you do the math that does not add up. I know I signed off on it already , I 'm just saying your taking advantage of people. ( 259 x 18 = 4.662 275 x 18 = 4.950 ) Where did $ 10.300 come from ?

I purchased a bed a bit ago and signed on for a credit card being told there would be no interest applied and that that the bed would be paid in full after the 18 months. I had my bill automatically being debited each month. I'm glad I decided to check my statement this month (August 2015) because an interest rate has been attached each month since January without my knowing. My total owed in January was $154 and some change. Now it was $235 and some change. Of course when I called I got the run around of waiting an exceptional time on the phone to talk to a representative. I finally got passed around to a supervisor who was as helpful as a DMV clerk. Of course the only thing she was willing to do was to take my money. The only good thing that came out of it was that I paid it in full so that I don't have to deal with these leaches of evil. Definition of a rip off ladies and gentleman. Mo do not reccomend doing business with this company.

I had a 808 credit score and it dropped to 795 with a zero balance because the change between the "Blue Card" to the "Orange". Synchrony denies this, but it's on my FICO report. My Report states "New Account Opened"

This bank is very difficult to deal with. First, their Customer Service line goes through all your account information before you have the option of Customer Service. It takes approximately five minutes. The Customer Service Reps and their supervisors have no authority to answer questions. I was told to write a letter if I wanted my issue resolved. The issue was that my card was rejected due to a fraudulant charge, new card issued, authorization rejected, then card rejected again.

I just found out today that there are charges on my account for Security Card Protection for the last 5 months. I did not authorize nor applied for this protection. I called the number on my statement and complained. The nice lady on the phone told me that the protection is optional. So if it's optional then why are they charging me for something that I did not authorize? She went ahead and cancel the Security Card Protection and told me that I will get credited for the charges.

I guess this should be a lesson for me to check my statement ALL THE TIME. Check for charges because this company can be sneaky and just add charges to your account without your knowledge. So beware! --- Always check your statement.
