Synchrony Bank (Formerly GE Capital Retail Bank) Reviews (993)

I have had a Gap Visa Credit card for nearly years The service was wonderful until Synchrony Bank took over the accounts They have frozen my card times in the last weeks without the only explanation being that the card is being used a lot I have not used this card any more now than I have in the past years! I pay off my balance every month and have for the yearsAnd the freezes come at the most inconvenient, critical times This card is no longer reliable and after I pay my balance in May I an canceling the card I want to end my relationship with this bank as soon as possibleMaybe they don't want me as a customer anymore The feeling is mutual, as I do not wish to be their customer anymore Over and out

Synchrony Bank blames their problems on the customerThey said that my recurring payment account was not valid and that I was typing the account and routing number in wrongI use the exact SAME numbers on an "individual" payment and it goes through no problem...I tried to set up my recurring payments with two separate checking accounts and it happened both timesBoth accounts work perfectly for all the other bills that are automatically deducted from them Synchrony has terrible customer service since they just blame everything on me...or they give me information that I can already seeThey just pull up the account and regurgitate what is already thereThat is absolutely no help to meI know that it isn't the customer rep's fault and this goes up to the higher management for being completely incompetent I will NEVER get a credit card that goes through this bank EVER againWorst customer service and experience I have EVER hadI can't wait to get this stupid thing paid

I know my english is not like Shakespeare but the customer services people from this bank is really bad accent and communication issues are very common;

My BP Chase Visa switched to being administered by Synchrony Bank My first months experience has been HORRIBLE I just travelled on vacation and my card was frozen After spending minutes on the phone with a customer service worker (who was very hard to understand because of poor English), I was quizzed about a dozen or so recent purchases They were all mine, and frankly, nothing unusual for me My total charges that triggered the freeze could not have exceed $1000, and my account has a $15,limit I travel a lot and use my card in many different cities I was assured that I would not encounter this problem again on my vacation, and I would receive a text message if there were any questioned transactions, but hours later when I attempted to pay my hotel bill, my card was rejected again! No email, no text I'm still well over $10,below my credit limit and can't use the card Totally unacceptable and I will definitely use my BP Visa less often

I will never use any card that has to do with this company againOnce I pay off the card I will be closing the cardI made a payment on my card and I have a e-mail as well as the online database saying I made a payment and that it had posted to my accountI called customer service and was transferred to the payment section because I was past due where NO ONE SPEAKS CLEAR ENGLISHI explained to them on 8/27/as well as today 8/28/I had already made a paymentI called customer service to talk to a representative not to be transferred to a different location where there are foreign people on the phone who do not speak clear English for the caller to understandI had an appointment set up to use this card and yet customer service is telling me they do NOT see a payment that I made onlineBut less than hours ago the lady in customer service I talked to said she can see the payment that I madeThey advised me to wait another hours for it to POST to my accountI guess they did not understand that I have a e-mail as well as a picture of the payment reflecting "POSTED TO YOUR ACCOUNT"I will never open another card that has anything to do with this bankNor will I ever recommend any of the people I know to sign up for any card that involves this Company

Can only talk to people in a country outside the U.S The company makes a lot of undisclosed actions and the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing Customer service agents can't answer questions because questions about your account are confidential The company has a general "sketchy" feel to itIt's hard to say if customers are valued or not, because calls go overseas and the agents are overly enthusiastic and "yes, yes, yes" to a point that nothing feels genuine and no questions or concerns can ever be addressed I've even have agents fail to repeat back my question when asked point blank There is no conversation or ability to resolve a situation I, personally, have closed my account due to inability to communicate with this vendor

Phone voice menu is horrible; takes forever to get a customer service representative and then they connect you to/back to voice menuWhen I go to their online site a warning pops up for invalid certificate on safari and not secure on ChromePaid over the phone and took a chance and paid onlinePayments were processed but balance did not decreaseThis is totally unacceptable for a bankI'll never use a promotional offer through this bank again; I'd rather just pay more than put up with the hassle

I opened a jumbo cd in Feb., they were suppose to wire the money from my other bank, but they did not do it, then I contacted them and they told me to go ahead and send the money and they would be no problem with honoring the rate quoted on my cd I looked on line to find they actually locked in my rate much lower than quoted, and assured of over the phone I have had to contact them (with lots of phone prompts and waiting) twice (a second request for corrections from the back office) to correct their errors, and wrong information and wait another 3-business days for the magical answer I would not recommend this bank that doesn't wire draft correctly or give correct information when calledSend your money to an honest and reliable bank

I decided to be proactive knowing I was going on a business trip and send them a payment early they got it last Friday December 5thto ensure I would not have any issues with my credit limit on my business trip To my surprise they declined my card at a business dinner on Wednesday Dec10th I called to verify my balance it is said my balance was a NEGATIVE $Meaning they owed me money So I called to find out why they declined my cardThe first person was unhelpful and unable to explain it to me so she transferred it to the "Supervisor" [redacted] He was extremely rude and had no interest in helping me out His comment was that the amount I PAID THEM was high and therefore they were putting my payment on hold and can hold it for business days??? I asked to speak to his boss and he claimed he was the highest person that I can talk to on the phone and if I wanted to file a complaint I could put it in writing and the address he gave me was a PO box in Orlando, Florida and would not tell me who to address it to or who's attention to send it to THIS IS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED IN MY LIFE They DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS My belief is they are holding my payment so they can charge me another month of interest THERE BUSINESS ACCUMEN IS HORRIBLE DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM MY CARD WAS A TJX REWARDS MASTERCARD

Consumers bewareIf you have a hiccup along the way with any other creditor, Synchrony Bank will systematically destroy your credit by lowering your limit to the next $increment above your balanceIf you have a $limit and owe $90, they'll lower it to $Congratulations! You now have a 90% debt ratio for this cardAnd if you pay the $90, they'll close the card, further hurting your credit This behavior is triggered by any adverse changes in your credit profile, even if the changes are not related to any of their accounts They will do this even if you carry low balances less than 30%, always pay them on time, and never missed a payment with them They will do this without warning and will not give you an opportunity to explain or account for the changes in your credit profile, which could be for a myriad of reasons They will do this if there's merely one account on your profile with issuesThey will ignore the dozen others that are paid as agreed They will continue to do this, perpetually maxing out your credit lines with them, hurting your creditIt will continue until you get frustrated and pay off the account, which as I said before, they will close And worst of allEven if you have no hiccups in your credit, they will do this to you if you do not use their card regularly If I knew then what I know about this lender, I would never have gotten store cards with themI was rebuilding my credit after a divorceToday, I am in a worse situation than before because they manage to keep my debt with them at 90%Systematically paying them off then good riddance to this lender and its horrible practices

I paid my Amazon store card on time every monthEach payment was made manually on their websiteEach payment received a confirmation message staying it had been receivedNo problemExcept the payments weren't processedSo I was charged late fees, and now my account is past due despite making the paymentsTheir online system is faultyAt this rate I'll be paying off my card and no longer using itNo problems before September Then suddenly no payments will make it through

Synchrony Bank routinely holds matured certificate of deposit funds extra day past the maturity date before they will BEGIN to process the redemptionIf the maturity date is on a Friday - they don't start till Monday. Then, if one elects to receive the funds by ACH transfer, it will take up to days after the maturity date to reach your local bank accountThey do not initiate the ACH transaction promptly and then code the ACH transfer to take effect into your account at least days after they submit the ACH transfer when next-day effective date is available Factoring in the fact that they do not deem the funds matured on the maturity date stated on the CD, the ACH stonewalling, and weekends, good luck in receiving the funds promptlyToo bad if you had immediate plans for the matured funds - just out of luckAll complaints regarding this abusive process are met with stonewalling and highly scripted responses by the Synchrony folk, so save your breath

Needed to use my synchrony account as an external account for another financial institution that required a routing number for my accountAfter realizing it was no where on my statement, I tried to look for it on the website (has no where to search on it)I eventually called and a rep gave it to meI asked if I could get this in an official manner (on a bank letter head), the rep informed me that it would take hours and I can find it in my message center on the website after logging inI called hours later, that rep told me it will take hoursI called hours later and that rep told me it will take hoursThe three of the four times that I called, I asked to speak to a supervisor and never got on a phone with oneEither the rep couldn't connect or the rep hung upI wished I would have read these reviews before opening an accountNow I am on my way out!

Synchrony bank provided a terrible website experience, simply impossible to use, as well as endless wait time for any customer assistance by phoneCanceled my new account and will never return

Customer service is horribleWon't help you when you call, representatives barely speak English

AmazingI just called to discuss a concern on my accountThe machine told me to call back at I thought I had years to pay off my loan since the guy at living spaces said if I passed a certain limit it would be months instead of and yesterday night when I went to pay my bill I discovered over 300$ extra in interest of 29.99%That's incredibly high for a year old mother of two!!! Never buying anything with them againI also never bothered to look at my statements (I know horrible on my part but I have been paying bills for years and nothing like this has ever happened.), but it turns out I have late charges of at least 25$Also each month I have 2$ interest charge which is weird even if I'm suppose to have months free interest2$ can really add upSo upset

Just got off the phone with them By far the worst customer service I ever experienced The customer service rep along with the escalation supervisor were both rude and completely incompetent Never will I deal with Synchrony (GE) again!!

I have had zero late or missed payments on the credit cards I have with this bankI received a letter a few weeks ago that one of my cards with a $limit was being reduced to $or whatever my current balance wasJust got another one today saying an account with zero balance has been closedI had these cards to rebuild my credit and have been very diligent in paying them on tike or paying them off completelyNow my bureau is going to show a maxed out card and a card closed by the credit grantorThere should be no way that this bank can do this based on their "random review"They are negatively impacting my credit with no cause and should be liable for that actionIf I can figure a way to sue them I willSuch BSI am sure the other cards I have from them will be cancelled soon as well adding further negative impact on my creditGuess I better go run the balances up

When I set up an account with Synchrony Bank to buy furniture through Ashley Furniture I took a promo deal where the credit line was interest free for yearsI was told directly over the phone that as long as I didn't miss a payment that the account would be payed off in the years and no interest would be tacked onWell I am active duty military so my travels have limited me non accessible to internet or receiving bills directly several timesI set up auto billing so I didn't miss a payment and I even set in up to pay dollars over the minimumWell months prior to paying it off I got dropped dollars of differed interest because it wasn't payed by the promo expiration date and when I called to find out what happen here is what I was told "If you would've read your statements more carefully then you would've noticed a small section that talked about if you didn't not make X amount more than the minimum then it would not be payed off by the promo exp date, and there was nothing they could do" It sickens me that credit unions such as this one care so little about people that they would say anything to someone to take a deal and turn around and throw fine print where no one expects it

Synchrony Bank is the creditor for Chevron I have a card and they closed the account stating that two (2) payments were returned I received a letter stating that I signed up for recurring payment (which I did not) and the checking account number on file was not correctI called cs thinking that it was fraudulent activity going on and the rep said that she would put a fraud alert on my account However, about a week later, I found that they closed my account and the manager told me that they do not put fraud alerts on their customers' accountsSecondly, they failed to credit my account $200, stating that the payment was returned I sent proof that the payment cleared but they will not credit my account; they have reported to the credit agencies that my account has been closed Customer service is horrible!!!! I have reported them to cfpb; I would suggest that anyone having problems with this creditor does the same; they are a wonderful resource
