I bought a set of tires on promotion recently and I received a payment plan, unfortunately with Synchrony Bank. After I submitted the first payment of $100, and all notifications and automated phone service robots lead me to believe that the payment had gone through, I was content. Then I got charged a $25 late fee. After a frustrating phone call they waived the fee. When I payed again, this time the full credit amount, everything seemed fine. Until today, when I received another late fee of $25. I received multiple letters in the mail telling me my new balance was $0.00, but come to find out that I still was not charged and hit with another late fee. I called their crappy automated service and was put on hold for customer service. I waited a half hour ON HOLD to be met by an automated message that told me their offices were closed. Now that is just the last straw. I, will never have anything to do with this company and neither will anyone I know. ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE! ZERO!
I just found out today that there are charges on my account for Security Card Protection for the last 5 months. I did not authorize nor applied for this protection. I called the number on my statement and complained. The nice lady on the phone told me that the protection is optional. So if it's optional then why are they charging me for something that I did not authorize? She went ahead and cancel the Security Card Protection and told me that I will get credited for the charges.
I guess this should be a lesson for me to check my statement ALL THE TIME. Check for charges because this company can be sneaky and just add charges to your account without your knowledge. So beware! --- Always check your statement.
[redacted] Card: The rewards on this card are fantastic - unfortunately, I have received numerous fraudulent charges with absolutely horrible customer service. These are small amounts, in total over the last 7 months there have been $1,000+ in charges from the SAME fraud perpetrator. I tried three times to report the first set of charges: 1) Rep didn't report it to the fraud department, 2) Rep sent it to the fraud department but didn't take the charges off of my card AND the fraud department forgot to start the investigation and 3) FINALLY, a rep took the charges off and got the investigation going. This is FIVE MONTHS LATER! A couple of weeks after the investigation another $500+ charge was made by the same people - I assume if this had been reported properly it wouldn't have happened. They have sent me 2 new cards and I haven't even activated the most recent card yet. Still no results. I called about this new charge twice, still no report to the fraud department and the charges are still sitting on my card. Can't close this card fast enough. Note: This would not be specific to [redacted] - this is a Synchrony Bank card so I would be careful with any of their programs.
I received my check today.
This bank is very difficult to deal with. First, their Customer Service line goes through all your account information before you have the option of Customer Service. It takes approximately five minutes. The Customer Service Reps and their supervisors have no authority to answer questions. I was told to write a letter if I wanted my issue resolved. The issue was that my card was rejected due to a fraudulant charge, new card issued, authorization rejected, then card rejected again.
I financed about $3,000 worth of furniture from Haverty's with Synchrony Bank, no interest $85 per month for 3 years promotion. Everything was going along fine until I missed a payment. I sent enough the next month to cover both payments plus the late fee. The month after that I sent the minimum payment plus $65. Today I sent them $90 and received a statement in the mail saying I owe minimum $202, that I am past due $80, and my balance is actually going up instead of down. I called customer service and spoke to a professional sounding Indian man who offered to remove 2 of the late fees. $70 isn't anywhere near going to cover what they say I owe so I asked to speak to a supervisor. I sat on hold for about 5 minutes and then Natalie comes on the phone sounding very flat and bored. I explain the situation and she is immediately the voice of "No." She tells me that I was not entitled to have any of the late fees removed but that she will remove them only because the previous person agreed to. I explain to her all the payments that I've been making and she interrupted me several times, spoke over me several times, would not even acknowledge that I've been paying more than I should for something that was only supposed to cost me $85 a month. I mean really? I sent you $90 today, $150 last month, $170 the month before that and you have been considering my payments late for several months now? You have got to be kidding me! But Natalie keeps interrupting me to tell me to "read the Credit Act" and trying to convince me that the way they are screwing me is perfectly legal. I try to establish that I should only owe $37 for that one late fee, since she is taking the 2 others off and they just got $90 from me today. Again she says no, I still owe the $202, the late fees won't come off until next month and then I will owe $112. She never explains where that number comes from. She makes it obvious with her tone that I am an inconvenience to her, she is frustrated with speaking with me, and maybe if she treats me bad enough I will never call back and ask to speak to customer service, let alone a supervisor, again. I tell her why don't they just come get this furniture then, it's not worth this trouble. She interrupts me midsentence to tell me to take that up with Haverty's. I tell her I will be taking it up with them. She asks if there are any other questions or concerns she can help me with. I tell her she hasn't helped me with anything. She repeats "I asked you if there were any questions or concerns I could help you with." I tell her that is my concern. You haven't been helpful, you've been rude to me, you've interrupted me this entire conversation and spoken over me." She fake apologized "I'm sorry if you feel that way" I say No, I don't feel that way, that's what happened. Those are facts. Then I tell her goodbye and to please disconnect the call so I can take my survey. She rudely informs me that there is no survey since the call had to be transferred to her and tells me to disconnect. I told her I would not be disconnecting the call in case there really as a survey and she was lying, that she had completely lost my confidence in her and this company. She told me she would be making notes and then she hung up on me. Then I come here and see 572 other negative reviews, this company is about to wreck my credit! I've been trying to catch my payments up for months and it's obvious that I will never be able to get caught up.
I had a 808 credit score and it dropped to 795 with a zero balance because the change between the "Blue Card" to the "Orange". Synchrony denies this, but it's on my FICO report. My Report states "New Account Opened"
I would strongly advise anyone to never do any sort of business with Snychrony. I have a couple cards with them, one not by choice. The first card that I got from Sycnchrony was my amazon card and I have had nothing but trouble since day one. Once a month Synchrony decides to close my account for no particular reason. Each time I call I spend at least half an hour and its always just running in circles mostly because I cant understand what the person on the other end is saying. The wait times are also pretty ridiculous, One time I was on hold for 45 mins. Im sure they were hoping that I would just hang up. They always tell me its a glitch in the system and promise that it will never happen again but unfortunately that is not the case. My second card is a walmart card. This is the issue that makes me the most upset. I applied for this walmart card one time and I was declined. A couple of months later I checked my credit and saw that I had an active card through Walmart/Synchrony Bank. I called about the card but when I gave them the information they told me that all the information was correct except for my name. I then asked them to close the card but they told me they could not because it was not in my name. So I asked what I had to do to change the card in my name and they said that in order to change the name the card had to be in my name. It makes no sense at all. I asked them how this mistake could even happen and they the operator said that they dont really look into it as long as most of the information adds up. Kind of ridiculous. So im currently stuck with a card that isnt even in my name and there is nothing I can do about it. Dont waste you time or money. Its just a matter of time before they close anyways
Since they have taken over Lowe's credit card customers, nothing but horrible business and services. I get several calls yesterday from their customer services number, yet not knowing the number, I did not answer. No voice mails left. Thus, last night around 6pm, again another call from that number, but finally a voice mail of who it was and what it was in regards to. I called them right back and was told my account was delinquent.....but due on the 25th (today is the 19th). When I questioned this, they told me I had not made a payment for the month of October and thus late payment adding to my bill. First, I had made a payment for the month of October (I always pay my bills) and my account shows that it cleared the bank. I never got a call in November alerting me of the no payment they spoke of for October. I did notice the increase due for my month of December statement, yet had not had the opportunity to questioned it yet. But, to call me before my December bill was due and "push" that I pay it at the moment I spoke to someone...rude/insensitive/pushy and down right NOT customer friendly!!!! I asked the customer service rep. what my monthly payments would be after I brought my account up to date, he stated he could not tell me because I had not made a payment???? I work in customer service daily for the past (20+) years and to have both customer service reps have a tone with me that was shaming/scolding and to be treated as if I don't pay my bills on a regular basis....I will make sure I pay the outstanding balance for this card when I receive my tax return and never do business with a company that let's Synchrony Bank handle any finances/credit cards for them. I will share my experience with Lowe's directly and with family/friends and coworkers.
I was making some online purchases and my credit card was declined, during the time it took to contact the online purchaser to find out my card had been declined and then contacting Synchrony, a few items in my online cart sold out. Synchrony Bank told me that it was for my protection that they declined my purchase. They didn't contact me in any way (Citibank will text me to confirm a purchase for approval, American Express calls me). I also tried to sign on to my online account for Synchrony Bank (GAP credit card) as I had just received an email stating I owed $32. I was concerned, since I knew I had a low balance on the card, that perhaps it had been stolen. Synchrony Bank blocked me from accessing my information. SERIOUSLY? When I asked on the phone about this I was told it is for my protection. I said, you are protecting me FROM me? You work for me! You earn your money from me!
So, needless to say, I've closed the account.
Synchrony Bank is the biggest scam ever!!!...I've tried to file two dispute on two purchases I made with a merchant ([redacted]) both items broke within less than 30 days and they denied my claim!..So don't even try and get your money back from these vultures!...They will just laugh! NO, BUYER PROTECTION HERE PEOPLE!.. Remember that when you go to make any kind of purchase with their Cards!.. Your item Breaks, you are SOL! Thanks Synchrony Bank, YOU SUCK!!
I was recently encouraged by Sam's Club to open an account, a Sam's Club Mastercard, that would provide cash back options on purchases. I initially declined the offer but eventually agreed to the card since I was pre-approved and the Sam's Club rep said it was really good rates and I could save a lot of money. I was sent to the Customer Service desk to retrieve my card. Once I arrived it took 15 minutes and a hard credit inquiry hit my credit report which I did not appreciate. I had to forfeit my Sam's membership card and was issued a new temporary credit card on the spot. I was told that they didn't know the interest rate yet but it was very good. The purchases of that day were required to be charged to the Sam's Club mastercard. A few days later I received my Sam's/Synchrony credit card with no interest rate information. A week later I received my Sam's Club/Synchrony statement and found the interest rate to be 22.9% for purchases. This is hugely insulting as I have an excellent credit score and I consider the rate to be very high. I called the Customer service number for Sam's Club members at Synchrony Bank. After 23 minutes of my time and 2 different associates being invloved my card was finally cancelled at my request. I am now told I have to make a personal trip to Sam's Club to get a new Sam's membership card issued. This customer service is terrible and Sam's Club should not treat their long-term good customers to this treatment. Sam's Club should not push customers to charge purchases. Sam's Club should not promote 22.9% interest charges for any financial institution. This is not a service but a penality. Too bad there is not a Costco in my local area.
Thank you Synchrony Bank. My Chevron Acct was taken over by you. I recently was approved for Sams Plus Mastercard. Absolutely no complaints. Paying accts online never a problem.
Take care of your credit, and it will take care of you when you need it.
Treat your creditors with respect by paying them on time, preferably before it is due if possible. Don't carry excessive balances, and if for what ever reason you incur a large charge to your account, pay it before the statement closes.
If you want respect, be respectable and remember credit is not an open check book.
Its a loan.
Pay it on time, everytime and you will not have any problems.
Used correctly, credit is your friend.
Take care Synchrony, and thank you!!!
I have a couple of cards that I received when GE was still the holder of my cards. I always pay on time. I applied for a card through Ashley Furniture and was denied. Now the Synchrony is running things and after reading all of these other reviews I am thinking this place will be losing all of my business as I am now going to pay off all my accounts(that are in good standing) and close all accounts with this company. Synchrony Bank it looks like you are burning bridges and losing customers fast.
I am an active duty sevice member and have discovered the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. In discovering this act, I have written each of my credit card companies about it and have recieved responses from all of them. Every single one has gone above and beyond and lowered my interest rates, refunded interest rates from the past and in the case of Capital One, done all of this with cancled cards. All but Synchrony bank. They Basicall sent me letters saying that they cannot do anything since my accounts were after I was active duty. This is true, BUT, the new act states that this applies to accounts Before and During active duty service. Synchrony sticks with the old act that applies before. Do Not try to fight it. They are greedy and will keep referancing the old act. Kudos to Capital one and BarclaycardUs. They went above and beyond for me and I will continue to do business with them. Anything Synchrony related will be canceled.
I've tried on 3 occasions to transfer funds from Synchrony Bank to my other external bank account. I never received any notice that the transfer did not go through and that there was a problem. I sent a message and received a reply stating that my address was incorrect. I called to confirm my address. The address that the representative had IS my correct address. I was then told that I could submit another transfer request but would have to wait 3 - 5 business days for the, "restriction," on my account to be removed. I decided to close my account instead. This is a very bad bank to try and do business with. Could this be an FDIC violation to refuse me my funds??????
I have been a member of Sam's club in Peoria,Il for 10years.I have had their Master Card, for just as long. I recently contacted,Syncrony Bank to negotiate the 23%interest rate on their Master Card. I was emphatically turned down this bank refuses to negotiate the terms on their charge cards. How hard nosed GREEDY can you be? I have never had a problem with payments,as a matter of fact for a three cent and I swear to God three cent error on a payment I was charged $30.00 for a 3 cent error on my part. I should of canceled my card right then,I didn't. I did now.that If you can be so unforgiving on your interest rates then I don't need it. If there is ANYONE who is considering a Syncrony Bank charge from any store or other BE AWARE YOU ARE DOING BUSINESS WITH A VERY GREEDY BUSINESS check around you can get BETTER rates else where they would rather loose your business than help you.
My Guitar Center card was taken over by this "bank". To start with NO ONE informed me that this was going to happen. It fell right on a payment cycle. So I was afraid I would get charged a late fee. Secondly when I called the number for this "bank" I was forced into a conversation with a automated system. The problem I have is IF I wanted to talk to a human Synchrony wanted to charge $10 just to do so!! This is outrageous! Banks that do busine like this I consider predatory! As soon as my balance is paid, I'm cutting up my card! Also has anyone looked at the privacy terms and all of the things a user cannot opt out of?!? Shameful
I shopped at Banana Republic, and they talked me into opening an account with them, but did not know that it was an account with Synchrony Bank. When I received the card, I immediately notified them and cut it up and told them I was not interested. I paid whatever there was on the card, and this is part of the letter I just received from them. I do not find them trustworthy.

Worse customer service. I tried to resolve a debt with them and couldn't get any assistance. I wasn't allowed to speak to someone higher than the customer service rep.
