Thrift Auto Sales, Inc. Reviews (103)

Review: A few weeks ago I bought a vehicle from the. I was told that I would receive the paperwork by [redacted] and I should fill it up and return it I did that. The vehicle was shipped to the state where I live and financed through a co. based in Minnesota. after I received the vehicle I had a temp. license plate and contacted them to receive some paperwork to have the vehicle registered here in Texas. 4 time a person called [redacted] assured me the papers were going to be sent . . 4 times nothing happened and no explanation or call back. After my temp. license plate expired I had to get one temp. one here for $25. So many times I tried to contact that dealership and they gave me the run around something awful. The receptionist would transfer me directly to some background music or to some answering machine and no one would call back. Soon my second temp. license plate is expiring and I do not know what to do. I do knot know whether those people are on drugs or what is going on! I do not recommend this dealership to anyone unless you want a wagonload of troubles!Desired Settlement: Refund me the $25. for the temp. license plate and send the title to the financing co. and send me a copy of my paperwork.

Review: I am the victim of a rebuilt or branded title used car dealership scam. In November 2014, I purchased a 2006 [redacted] Altima (VIN [redacted]) for $5000 from the above mentioned dealership. The dealership informed me that the car had an accident to the rear of the car that was repaired. Upon purchasing the vehicle, the dealership gave me a clean title for the car. Since I purchased the vehicle I have spent almost $5000 in repairs to the vehicle, almost entirely involving the front of the car, including engine mounts, tie rods and replacing the transmission. My mechanic also informed me that the vehicle requires another $2000 in repairs to include, struts and ball joints. When I registered the vehice the car title was returned with a large "REBUILT" stamped on the front! Had I known the vehicle had front end damage and was rebuilt, I would never have purchased the vehicle.Desired Settlement: I am seeking a refund of the monies I spent on this vehicle or repairs to the vehicle.

Review: Thrift Auto Sales sold me a Auto Warranty for $1,818 on January 23, 2015 - I received a letter form the Warranty Company that my contract was cancelled - I called Thrift twice and emailed twice to find out what is wrong - there was never any reply and I was told today "off the record" that the company is going out of business - They kept my money and I have not enforcable Warranty for the next 100,000 miles on my used carDesired Settlement: refund of 1818

Review: After months post purchase of trying to get in contact with the salesman whom I purchased from, not to mention weeks of misdirection at every phone call attempt, I gave up trying to make contact. I was never contacted back nor did my calls ever get followed up.

I bought my vehicle from the adjacent state and was told I was going to have to pay my own states taxes however in the itemized bill, the taxes added clearly were not accurate and reflected additional charges of up to (14% total) hidden within the taxes.

The company would not let me speak to my salesman or owner regarding the manner and every single day for up to two months said they were either out of the office, at lunch, in a meeting or had an emergency.Desired Settlement: I request that my bill be re looked at and adjusted accordingly to reflect the overcharge and blatant misdirection.

Response:

In the state of NJ we only charge one set of taxes, we charge NJ residents taxes for NJ and out of state residents we charge their tax rate of the home state. Only one set of taxes is ever paid. This customer paid one set of taxes and I am not sure what other 14 percent he is referring to. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] to discuss any concerns. Thank you

Review: I bought a car from Thrift Auto Sales cash on April 9,2013. It's been almost 2 months for them to issue the car's title and registrtation but until now they have not issued it to me and waiting. I called and talked to them about 4 times about this issue

I suspect they have a problem with the title otherwise it should not taken this long to issue the title considering the price is paid cash in full.Desired Settlement: I would like to received the title and registration right now. I think 7 weeks is ample time to have

Thrift Auto Sales has made several attempts to contact Ms. [redacted] and have not received a response to clear up the matter.

Review: Purchased a vehicle from their Somerville, NJ location in June 2015. Traded in my previous vehicle. They never paid the trade in off with my previous finance company. Now I owe on a vehicle that they have possession of and they have closed the business. Also, I purchased gap insurance and an extended warranty which was never recieved. They stole my money and my car. Now I am being harassed by the former bank and a private investigator. They have ruined my credit and I can't even sell the trade in because they stole my car.Desired Settlement: Pay off the loan they were contractually responsible to pay off, provide me with the gap insurance and warranty they owe me.

Review: I purchased a used Mercedes Benz E class from Thrift Auto Sales for $27,627. The dealer charged me $1,895.00 for a 3 month guarantee and the fee was also to include removing minor scratches from the vehicle, an oil change, and a through review of the car including checking the brakes by a Mercedes dealer that they use. . When I test drove the car, a warning light came on in the dash board about a side marker light being out in the right front. The car was delivered to me a few days later, without the oil change, without the side marker light being fixed and without the scratches being taken out.. I called that dealer and was told they were told just to address a noise that was heard I called the dealer and salesman and after many run around was told I can bring the car in for the repairs. Today the car has a brake clicking noise. This dealer is over 1 hour away so it is not convenient. I took my car to a local Mercedes Benz dealer and had the side marker light repaired under the manufacture warranty. ( this was not just a marker light but the full wiring system that had to be replaced. This shows the car was not checked. I will be using this dealer for any other service down the road that is needed. 27Desired Settlement: I am asking for a refund of the $1895.00 and I will assume the repairs of the scratches and the oil change and brakes since the service I paid for and was promised was not provided. I no longer have any trust in this dealership. If this is not possible then I want a loaner car at the dealers cost and my car put in for the scratch removal oil change and new brakes. I want all of this in writing and I want the scratches fixed to my satisfaction along with a detailed list in writing as to what was done.

Response:

We have offered the customer to make an appointment to drop the car off and for us to address the issues that the customer has. We have been more than willing to address their concerns but to be honest we feel like they have been difficult to come to a basic agreement such as even dropping the car off. We are still willing to try and make the customer happy. Please feel free to email me [redacted] or call me at [redacted] to set up an appointment. Thanks.[redacted]

Review: We are from Pennsylvania. On June 27, 2015, we purchased a 2012 Honda, and left down payment, and signed payment contract. Since safety check was not completed, they indicated that they would delivery car today. Was told today that they are no longer able to issue dealer temporary tags, and are unsure when this situation would be rectified. Spoke with manager, who indicated they are willing to cancel contract and return our deposit.Desired Settlement: We want to accept the offer of cancellation and want our down payment back.

Review: I purchased a 2010 Jaquar XF for $24,995 on 01/29/2014 from Thrift Auto Sales. The money was sent & received in a bank wire transfer and acknowledged by Thrift Auto Sales that they did receive the wire transfer. I was told the vehicle would be immediately placed on a request for shipping but never received any calls from Thrift auto confirming they listed the vehicle. I finally talked to someone that stated my car was going to be picked up on 02/04/2014, I was then told it would be picked up 02/07/2014, I was then told that the vehicle was picked up on 02/08/2014. As of this date 02/18/2014 I still have not received the vehicle in my possession. I had to call Thrift auto sales for a bill of sale proving I purchased the car, I also had to request that they remove the vehicle I purchased from their website showing that it was still for sale 6 days after receiving my full payment. I also never received a title and finally had to call and complain before I finally received a title over-nighted on 02/13/2014. I have routinely been told different dates of delivery of my vehicle and all those dates come an go and when I call them to find out where my vehicle is they add 2-3 days to the delivery time. The sales staff constantly fails to return phone calls to me and lacks any type of customer service, I was told 8-10 times they would call me back about an issue and never make contact with me until I called them out of frustration. I am beginning to wonder if the car they advertised on their website ever existed or if they are conducting a fraudulent business.Desired Settlement: I want the vehicle I purchased and payed for in the advertised condition immediately or a full refund in a bank wire transfer

Review: I bought a 2002 Lexus RX300 on 8/26/13 for the list price of $6995.

They told me that it was mandatory for me to buy a 3 month mandatory warranty from CARS Protection Plus for $895. So, I paid for the same. Recently when I called the warranty company due to some issues with my car, I was told that there was no warranty on my car. I made multiple visits to the car dealer and made many phone calls, but they have not bothered to take care of this issue. They were rude with me all the time.Desired Settlement: Refund of $895 that I paid for the warranty.

Review: I purchased a 2009 Infinit G37 Coupe from Thrift Auto and they have not given me the title and it has been > 30 days. I cannot register the vehicle in the required time of < 30 days of purchase date and now I am forced to pay late penalties and the MO DMV.Desired Settlement: I am acceptable to reception of a valid title to this car in my possesion no later than 11/29 or I will return the vehicle for the full purchase price. Thrift signed a contract stating they would sell my this car and just by allowing my delivery company to pick it up and deliver it to me does not mean they sold it. I need a valid title or I return the vehicle for a full refund of $16,000.

Review: I purchase a car from Shrift back on August 19, 2014. When I went to pick up the car everything that they promise was not done. I told them I no longer wanted the car and will not be around to conduct another business transaction due to military obligation, therefore I am cancelling the deal. I spoke with [redacted] the service manager who assure me the funds will be send back to the bank within a week. Since them I have spoken with [redacted] who was involved with the sale and who I was informed is a senior sale management. [redacted] have hang up the phone on me on several occasion and even promise to call be back. I have been working with the bank and they have not been able to get an answer from Thrift. It is now more than two months and I am making payment on a car that I don't have and Shrift will not respond to me. Thanks for you time.Desired Settlement: I would like Thrifty to refund the money to the bank or issues me a check. I would also like them to repay the interest that I have being charge towards the loan, and pay for my increase mental anxiety that this situation created. I am a Soldier who suffered from PTSD and have been working very hard to control the situation. Since this unsettling incident with several phone call to Shrift Auto that was totally ignore I have found myself on increase medication and anxiety attack.

I am rejecting this response because:

Review: On 4/1/14, I called Thrift Auto dealer in the morning to let them know I was interested on a Buick Lacrosse 2011 and would lilke to go see it. At the time of signing the contract he said it was to lock my interest approved by the bank. I gave him $ 3,500 cash because he said it was to hold the car. At the time of me returning back home, I noticed he had not given me a copy of the document, nor a receipt for the cash I had given him. I texted him right away, but he responded to me around 10:30 in the night telling me he'll send it via email first thing in the morning. The next morning, around 9:30, I was texting him letting him know that I was no longer interested on the car to please send me the money via [redacted] since I am in ** and have no transportation to go back there. The reason I decided on not purchasing the car was because to me, him not giving a copy of the signed document and a receipt for my money it was a red flag. I continued calling, leaving messages with the secretary, sending emails, asked to speak to his supervisor, to no avail. He never got in touch with me for a whole week, so I personally went there on 4/7/14. The salesman told me that he already had put the document through with the bank and now it was between me and the bank to get my money back. I told him that I tried to get in touch with him for a whole week that I was no longer interested on the car. I called the bank to let them know I never took possession of the car, [redacted] Bank told me to file a police report, which I did on 4/9/14 and faxed it to [redacted] Bank . The bank said that Thrift Auto had agreed to cancel the contract and return my $3,500. Up to date, 5/15/14, the dealer's phone # only has a voicemail, have left many messages, no returned calls from them, no car, and [redacted] Bank keeps calling me to make payments on a car that has never been registered or insured on my name, and I never took possession of it.Desired Settlement: Thrift Auto sales to cancel my contract since I never took possession of the Buick Lacrosse 2011, and Refund my $3,500.

Business

Response:

This customer has received their money back and the deal has been cancelled. In addition the state law does not allow for a deal to be cancelled once it is signed, agreed, and paid for. We went above and beyond for this customer in all aspects. Our version of the story is that the insurance came back higher than expected and brought the car out of the customers budget. Thank you for your attempted business and take care.

Review: I purchased a vehicle on [redacted] and was forced to purchased a 90 day retail package as they called it and have made appointments since to have windshield crack fixed, emblem replaced and car not starting have gotten no response for the past 2 weeks already.Desired Settlement: refund of money paid for vehicle or of retail package and/or reimbursement of expenses to fix those issues

Review: The dealer requires that all purchasers pay a "Preparation fee," which includes the car being detailed and serviced upon purchase. According to the sales rep ([redacted]) and sales manager ([redacted]) it also includes a 3 month period where you can contact the dealer if anything goes wrong with the vehicle. I agreed to pay this "Preparation fee" of about $1300. On the day I purchased the vehicle, they were unable to perform the detail and service but said I could come back to handle it. I made an appointment and the car was detailed and not serviced (although they said it was serviced). The gauge on the car informed me that the car was in need of service. When I called they said the mechanic likely forgot to reset the car and that it would automatically reset. After a week and a half the car gauge informed me it was very low on oil. I took it to a mechanic and he confirmed that the car was low in oil and that it was very dirty, meaning it had never been serviced as promised. I had to pay an additional $115 on top of the preparation fee that the dealership charged me. I contacted the dealer and they said I was on my own and they hung up on me. Additionally, they never returned the plates of the car that I traded in to me. I requested them on 2/11, 2/20, 2/28, 3/5, 3/11, 3/20, and 3/31. Their response was "I don't know.Desired Settlement: If the dealer is not willing to pay for the initial service promised of $110, then I would like a full refund of the $1300 preparation fee for the dealer failing to deliver on the agreement.

Review: I was asked to place a $500 deposit that was "100% refundable" for an car application. The fact that the deposit was "100% refundable" was guaranteed both over the phone and was also clearly written on the receipt that was emailed to me from the dealership. I was told that I would receive the refund back "immediately" as well. When I stated that I wanted the refund back, the dealer said he would take care of it "immediately". Instead, he authorized the withdrawal of $500 from my account and has not returned any of my attempts to reach him.Desired Settlement: I would like my "deposit 100% refundable" in the form of $500 dollars back immediately into my account.

Regards,

Review: I bought a car from this dealership the end of May 2015 We also purchased a Warranty with the car I received a letter in the mail the beginning of August 2015 from the Warranty company that they can not accept my vehicle service contract and that they have returned it to our selling dealer to contact them for my refund. I contacted the dealer the day I received the letter from the warranty company which was Wednesday August 12th and told them about the letter I received and that I was due a refund they told me that my refund would be going out on Friday the 14th on Thursday August 20th I still haven't received the refund so I called the dealer again and told them my situation and that the check was mailed on the 14th and I haven't received it. I was told that they didn't have anyone to sign the checks that when someone came to sign the checks. They said the person that handles the warranties is only there Wednesday's and Fridays. So I called back on Wednesday August 26th hoping I could talk to the person that handles the warranties and was told that they weren't in they took my name and number down and would have someone call me back. I have since heard from them about this matter I have called several more times leaving messages with the operator the billing department I even left a message with corporate and no response. I just want my refund back these people are running me around and they owe me money. I appreciate anything you can do to help me get my refund.Desired Settlement: I would like to receive the refund that is due to me.

Review: I Purchased a 2008 750 BMW Li (VIN:[redacted]) on May 30th 2015 and was told vehicle was top notch and would pass inspection without problem. I was also advised to purchase a $4,000 platinum bumper to bumper warranty in case anything were to go wrong, I would pay a $100 deductible and warranty company ([redacted] of America) would pay the difference for the repairs. A few days later, engine light came on. Went to BMW for diagnostic and was advised that car needed close to $6,000 of repairs in order for it to pass safety inspection; problem with excessive GUIBO play, engine fault light, Cat Conv on Bank1, Engine misfiring, seal gasket issues ..the list kept on growing. Additionally I was promised places to replace temporary tags but never arrived. I alerted a Thrift Auto representative and was advised to bring the car in for service and my so called [redacted] "Platinum warranty" will cover the cost of repairs...well, THEY DID NOT!!! Service rep then lied about ordering necessary parts and working on vehicle. After multiple efforts to contact Thrift went unanswered, I decided to visit their website only to discovered these guys had the audacity to put my vehicle back in inventory and place it for sale?!!!!Desired Settlement: Total refund of deposit: $1,500

Cost of transporting vehicle from DC to NJ: $600.00

--------------------------------------------------------------

$2,100 is the desired outcome plus an apology.
