Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: The information I received was not correct and I cannot work from home directly after finishing the course. I don't expect a refund on the materials I have such as the books, but I do expect the $719. I know what was obligated but if you are waiving my balance, then you can refund what I've paid. I have spoken to a local lawyer about small claims court and they stated I do have a good case.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to Case # [redacted]. Ms. [redacted] enrolled 5/20/15, her eBook Pack 3 was delivered 6/29/15. Her hardcopy books sent 7/1/2015. The government mandated switch to ICD-10 did not happen until 10/1/15. The school did not switch over to ICD-10 until 10/1/15, per the...

government guidelines. In preparation for the change, the school included an ICD-10 supplement. The instruction staff is happy to discuss any ICD-10 questions students may have. The main purpose of the coding section of the course is to learn the coding process such as understanding the procedure and diagnosis, how to find the pathway to the coding scenarios, once that knowledge is gained, students can implement using codes from ICD-10. The Coding and Billing program is two skills within one program. Students can choose to do billing jobs, coding jobs or both once the graduate. Ms. [redacted]s is 90% complete in her studies and not far from graduating. There are no notes on her account indicating she has called the school regarding her concerns nor has she spoken to our graduate counseling department. Ms. [redacted] is enrolled in the Success Promise Program which includes working with an HR specialist and graduate services to come up with a marketing strategy. Ms. [redacted]s is currently 2 payments behind in her tuition and will need to be current to participate in the program. As outlined on the enrollment agreement and in the school catalog, Ms. [redacted]s is not eligible for a refund. We encourage Ms. [redacted]s to complete her studies and work a graduate counselor. The counselors can also refer Ms. [redacted]s to graduates who are working from to discuss what strategies worked for them. Thank you, Joyce L[redacted] Director of Student Services

Thank you for opportunity to address Case [redacted]. Mr.[redacted] originally enrolled on 4/2/14. On 8/8/14, the school talked withMr. [redacted] regarding a recent job opportunity and he couldn’t do the courseworkso course was cancelled and he was told he could reinstate if he wanted toresume in the...

future. We talked with Mr. [redacted] by phone again on 4/7/15, he explainedhis situation had changed so we reinstated his enrollment, took a $59 paymentto make his account active again. The school called Mr. [redacted] on 4/13/15 andsaid the payment was processed his account was reinstated so he could startstudying.  On 7/1/15, Mr. [redacted] phonedhe was laid off, the school offered a grace period and half payments to assistMr. [redacted]. He did not cancel at that time of the offer. On 9/15/15, the schoolspoke to Mr. [redacted] regarding the cancellation policy and made payment arrangementsfor 10/19/15. Mr. [redacted] has completed 11 out of 39 assignments, with anenrollment date of 4/2/14 which remains the date his school account was set upwhether he is currently active or not. According to the enrollment agreement andschool catalog the “Student Protection Policy” explains the cancellationpolicy.  Mr. [redacted] has been enrolled forover 12 months; he has been active in his studies off and on during this time. Mr.[redacted] is responsible for the full cancellation amount of $2137.25, to date hehas paid just $180.75 toward his tuition. After careful review of his schoolrecords and this complaint I am going to make an exception and waive the cancelbalance due and the amount paid to date will satisfy his financial obligationto the school. No more payments or assignments will be necessary as the accountwill be closed today, October 2, 2015. We wish Mr. [redacted] the best of luck withhis future endeavors.Thank you,Joyce L[redacted]Director of Student Services

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to Ms. [redacted]’s reply. U.S. Career Institute brought Ms. [redacted]’s account current on August 8, 2017, causing the account to be removed from collections on August 11, 2017. The full collections removal process can take up to 30 business days through the collection agency, and we encourage Ms. [redacted] to contact them directly with any questions regarding collections or credit reporting.   U.S. Career Institute cannot control specific employer requirements. As indicated in the enrollment agreement and school catalog, it is the student’s responsibility to determine whether the clock hours earned from U.S. Career Institute will meet specific federal, state, municipal or employee training requirements. While U.S. Career Institute clearly communicated with Ms. [redacted] prior to and throughout her enrollment regarding the certification exams she would be eligible to take upon completion of our Medical Assistant course, we have closed the account to allow her to find training that better fits her goals. The remaining balance of $1,173 has been waived and no further payments or assignments are due. We wish Ms. [redacted] the best in her future endeavors.

Thank
you for the opportunity to respond to Ms. [redacted]’s complaint. All of U.S. Career
Institute’s calls and correspondence are recorded for quality assurance and
have been reviewed. On February 25, 2017, Ms. [redacted] spoke with an Admissions
representative and inquired as to who U.S. Career Institute is approved by. The
Admissions representative advised Ms. [redacted] that we are accredited by the
Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC), which is nationally
recognized. Ms. [redacted] responded by saying she was familiar with them.

The
DEAC is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a recognized accrediting
agency. Our school is also approved by the Colorado Department of Higher
Education, Division of Private Occupational Schools. This information is
readily available for prospective and current students as it is listed in the
school catalog, on our school website, and in the FAQ portion of the student website.

All
literature concerning the Office Administrator course does not indicate or
state that a graduate will be certified. In addition, when Ms. [redacted] signed one
of her emails to U.S. Career Institute with the title “Certified Office
Administrator” after her name, we clarified in our response that this course does
not result in certification, but results in a Certificate of Completion, which
is awarded after a student has successfully completed the coursework and has
paid their tuition balance in full.

Our
Office Administrator course prepares graduates for entry level work as an
Office Administrator and Ms. [redacted] was provided with a Course Outline upon her
February 25, 2017 enrollment that outlined all content covered. The Course Outline
also lists any gifts provided upon graduation, and the Office Administrator Course
Outline does not list a dictionary as it is not part of the course.

The
course is self-paced, so students may take as much time as they need to
complete their lessons and quizzes, as well as review quiz results before moving
forward with their studies. When Ms. [redacted] inquired about retaking quizzes, she
was advised that we are unable to allow retakes due to our accreditation; this
stems from the fact that students are provided with answers to quizzes when
they receive results. Quizzes are open-book and before each online quiz
submission, students are advised that results are final and prompted to go back
if they are not yet ready to submit the quiz.

Ms.
[redacted] has previously expressed the same concerns she outlined in her Revdex.com
complaint to U.S. Career Institute and these concerns were addressed by Student
Services Representatives and the Dean of Faculty. However, in the interest of
student satisfaction, the decision has been made to close Ms. [redacted]’s account
and refund the full $280 she has paid-to-date. Please allow up to 30 days for a
refund check to be issued. We wish Ms. [redacted] the best in her future endeavors.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: It is not acceptable. I have enrolled and am currently seeking an associates degree for medical billing and coding. As stated in the response, you need 2 years experience and tour course only counts as 1 year. Every employer I have spoke with in my area does not offer experience. They will only hire you with the 2 years experience. Also as the response stated, I am current on my payments and have not missed payments. I am seeking a refund since no employer will hire me without the 2 years experience and this course counts as one year experience. If I would have seen the multiple complaints from all the students saying the very same complaint I have, I would have seeked other schooling options.

[redacted] [redacted]I was wondering if they have tried to refund me yet. I just thought about it and I used two different cards to make payments because my bank changed cards so one is no longer active. Will they refund it on the last card used or the original one?

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. I was curious as to my courses I have already completed. Will I receive any credit from them? If so, how do I get a transcript?

None of this was explained to me via the phone call that I had made earlier. I now better understand the policies that At-Home Professions has in place. This new understanding will be of help in the future, as I do hope to return to and finish my education with At-Home Professions. Apologies for causing any trouble, that was never my intent.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to Case #[redacted]for [redacted]. On 6/23/13, Ms. [redacted] enrolled in the Medical Billingand Coding program. She completed 100% of her studies on 1/23/15. In reviewingthe notes on Ms. [redacted]’s account, she was concerned on 6/4/14 about herpast...

employment situation and the ability to gain employment. She also inquiredabout the Success Promise Program on 6/29/15. The Success Promise Program isexplained on the website and on the student webpage. It reads on the programwebpage under Requirements and Guidelines, sign up within 30 days ofenrollment, complete the course in 12 months, and pay 50% of tuition at thestart of the Success Promise Program. The program is free and it’s up to thestudent if they want to participate but they must meet the requirements to bein the program. Ms. [redacted] did not enroll in the Success Promise and didnot graduate in the required amount of time to participate. However, Ms.[redacted] is eligible to work with our graduate counseling department tocreate a marketing strategy for her new skill set. It was recommended if Ms.[redacted] wanted to work from home billing would be the best strategy. Accordingthe enrollment agreement and school catalog, Ms. [redacted] is responsible for100% of her tuition as a graduate of the school. I will make an exception inthis case and waive the balance due on the account in the amount of $439.00. Nomore payments are due on the account and the account will be kept current soMs. [redacted] can use our graduate services if she chooses to do so. We wish Ms. [redacted] the best of luck in her futureendeavors.Joyce L[redacted]Director of Student Services

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to Ms. [redacted]’s complaint. Our records show Ms. [redacted] enrolled in U.S. Career Institute’s Medical Specialties degree program on May 13, 2017. The Medical Specialties degree program consists of a total of four semesters and 62 credits. We were able...

to access web page archive for the date that Ms. [redacted] enrolled. The Medical Specialties Tuition web page showed that the total tuition and charges for an Associate Degree in Medical Specialties are as follows: ·         Cost per semester: $1,989.00 ·         Shipping and handling per semester: $21.50 ·         Number of semesters: 4 ·         Total cost of tuition: $7,956.00 ·         Total cost of shipping: $86.00 ·         Total cost of the program before discounts: $8,042.00 At the time of enrollment, Ms. [redacted] enrolled in Semester 1 of 4 and chose to pay in full for Semester 1. Since she paid in full for Semester 1, the $21.50 shipping and handling charge for Semester 1 was discounted and she received an additional $300 pay-in-full discount, bringing the cost for Semester 1 to $1,689. In addition to the specific website tuition information referenced above, Ms. [redacted] had access to the USCI school catalog, which shows the Medical Specialties degree program is four semesters and specifies which semester covers which credit hours. Ms. [redacted] also signed her Enrollment Agreement upon enrollment, which states: “My signature below indicates that I have read, understood and accepted the terms on both sides of the agreement, as well as the enclosed information describing my program selection. If I am under 18 years of age, my parent or guardian has completed as the “guarantor” section on the back of this agreement. I understand the terms and conditions of this enrollment agreement extend to my entire enrollment in U.S. Career Institute. I am currently being charged for this semester's tuition. I further understand my enrollment in subsequent semesters will be automatic unless I indicate otherwise. A school-specified exam in each semester will notify me of the impending enrollment in the next semester. Tuition for each subsequent semester will be charged upon shipment of the first course in the new semester.” We regret to hear that Ms. [redacted] believed the total cost for the Medical Specialties degree program was $1,689. However, the tuition cost for each semester and the breakdown of semesters was clearly presented prior to enrollment. We encourage anyone who has a question about any of the program details or school policies to ask our school representatives. Ms. [redacted] has completed or is currently working on four out of the six courses in Semester 1, has access to all materials needed to complete Semester 1 and is not eligible for a refund. Ms. [redacted] completed the exam required to trigger the next semester (Semester 2) and the first course in Semester 2 has become available for her to download. However, if she chooses not to progress to Semester 2, USCI will remove Semester 2 from Ms. [redacted]’s available courses (this is USCI’s standard policy) and remove the tuition and shipping and handling owed for Semester 2. In this case, Ms. [redacted] may still complete Semester 1 courses and request an official transcript to represent her completed credits. If Ms. [redacted] wishes to progress to Semester 2, we would be happy to discuss a payment arrangement or discount options for Semester 2.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to Case [redacted]. The Health Document Specialist program is study at your own pace. Students can stop and start as needed in their studies; however, students will need to continue to pay the tuition on the course material received. The tuition guideline is...

outlined on the enrollment agreement and in the school catalog. Ms. [redacted] received Course 1 on 9/18/15 and Course 2 on 10/24/15. Ms. [redacted] is obligated to both courses at $599 per course. To cancel the account Ms. [redacted] would have a cancel balance due of $319 for the lessons she has completed and if she does not cancel the course she would owe $718 for the lessons (Course 1 & 2) she received. If a student cancels their program they can reinstate their course at a later date if they choose to do so. When a student reinstates they resume payments for the full tuition. If a student wants to reinstate they must work with our Student Services Department. In response to this complaint, I have cancelled Ms. [redacted] account and waived the cancel balance due of $319. No payments or assignments are due unless Ms. [redacted] decides to reinstate her account with student services. We wish Ms. [redacted] the best of luck in her future endeavors. Thank you, Joyce L[redacted] Director of Student Services

The school gave Mr. [redacted] an extended review period from 9/26/14 to 10/9/14 to determine if the course was a good fit for him before he had any financial obligation to the school. The school has noted on Mr. [redacted]’s account we spoke with him regarding balances due on 1/14/15 and 7/10/15. The representative went over the schools cancel policy and Mr. [redacted] did not cancel his course during either of these conversations. In this complaint it states Mr. [redacted] purchased the product on 3/23/15 and talked to the school on the same date. Mr. [redacted] purchased/enrolled on 9/25/14 according to his official school records. It was not until the Revdex.com notification that we were made of Mr. [redacted]’s decision to cancel. The tuition is $599 per course and Mr. [redacted] authorized the shipments to his account. He received 3 courses totaling $1797. 00. At the time of the cancellation Mr. [redacted] owed for 3 courses and a registration fee but had only paid $1208.99 and owed $677. I went ahead and waived the balance due of $677 meaning Mr. [redacted] paid for two courses instead of three at the time of cancellation. No more payments are due on the account because of the waived cancel balance. No refund if available on his account, the school is accepting the amount paid to cover the material and instruction received on his Health Documentation Specialist course.Thank you,Joyce L[redacted]Director of Student Services
