Review: They advertise helping people with child custody cases They were supposed to help my son with paperwork he needs to file They haven't done nothing at all and you can never get in touch with them I was charged $98 for no services I want a refund I live on disability and They take advantage of people in needDesired Settlement: I just want my money back so I can find someone who will help my son Thank you

Review: My complaint against About The Children is for misleading descriptions of the services that they offer. I was seeking any kind of legal help without paying 1,000's in attorney fees to get legalized visitations with my son. I came across A.T.C. and before I ever committed to anything I did a check on the B.B.B. website since their official page boasted about their "A rating" on this same site. Upon the review I moved forward with obtaining services with A.T.C. During the process of obtaining my membership, completion of a questionnaire, and discussing with not 1 but 2 case advocates over the phone it was never stated that I would or would not have physical legal representation but, all along have been mislead into believing that I would. Using wording such as "Legal Group" and "About The Children attorney website" in emails I received only reinforced in my mind that I would. I was instructed to pay a "one time enrollment fee of $98.00" and informed of a $24.99/month membership fee. I was also instructed to pay $300 to file the "Rough Draft" of my documents which I was able to comply with. After paying and reviewing the rough draft I was informed then I would have to pay an additional $340 to file the completed "Final Draft." I struggled to pay my membership fee for over 3 years due to a personal financial hardship until I was able to finish paying the $340. I called A.T.C. and only got a voicemail, left a message and waited several days before sending an email to inform them that I had new information and a payment to offer. In about an hour's time after the email was sent I received a phone call, instructed to fax paperwork and upon her review she then told me that they cannot help me because of the state I reside in but am still obligated to pay the $340 plus a document revision fee and threatened to report me to collections if I did not pay. Nowhere on their site does it say what states they can or cannot help. If after 3 years why should I still have to pay if they aren't going to help?Desired Settlement: I would like to see a complete and full refund of all the money I have spent on this "organization." I have paid the $98.00 enrollment fee, the initial $300.00 "rough daft" fee and for the past 39 months paid the $24.99/month membership fee coming to a collective total of $1,372.61. ($974.61 for membership fees, $300.00 rough draft fee and $98.00 enrollment fee.) I AM NOT WILLING TO SETTLE FOR JUST THE $98.00 ENROLLMENT FEE IN REFUND! I want the whole amount or I WILL get an attorney.

Review: I was contacted by [redacted] from ATC regarding my inquiry for assistance with getting visitation/custody of my child. She explained that she would be able to set me up with a lawyer in my state to assist me but needed initial info from me, including credit card info to have on file. She explained that she did not handle that portion and will be sending me links to log on to the website and set up my account, which I would then be able to confirm details and set up services at that time. I receive the link, log in and read the terms and conditions. I see that $98 was the enrollment fee for this link. Lo and behold I check my bank account and $98 has been deducted. I immediately call and speak with Tracy who attempts to explain that that was a membership fee and was asked "What did you think would happen when giving a credit card over the phone" I explained to her that Amber did not once say that $98 was being deducted TODAY from my account and told me that I would set up EVERYTHING from the website. Naturally I DID NOT ACCEPT THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS and a box popped up to contact ATC, which I did. Tracy then said that someone from billing would contact me. I get a call from a Mike, who claimed there must have been a "misunderstanding" in the dialect. NO, I COMPLETELY UNDERSTOOD AND RECALLED MY CONVO WITH AMBER SIR. He then goes on to "consult" with someone and tells me that the fee is non refundable. HELLO I DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS!! He then goes on to talk to me as if we're moving forward with the process. NO SIR, I WANT MY REFUND TODAY! He then goes on to say he can do me a favor and refund "half" the charge, which has not been issued as of yet. I WANT ALL MY MONEY!!!!!!!!!!Desired Settlement: Refund my $98, and delete my credit card info from every database you may have entered it in IMMEDIATELY!

Review: I spoke to ATC about my need for legal assistance regarding my child. They took my $300 and sent out an email of cut and pasted questions and a variety of forms. While waiting for my sons mother to go over the paper work with me, I was told by a friend that she had seen ATC listed in more than a hand full of rip off reports. After further investigation myself, I found out information that was unsavory to say the least, I.E 64 claims against them through the Revdex.com and other sites full of reviews that had very poor things to say about ATC and that is an understatement. Since no actual work had been done by them for me other than the email I decided it would be best to go another route as this was regarding my child's best interests and well being and that should not be risked or gambled on a company that has a reputation as low as theirs. I requested a refund stating that I had read up on their poor business practices and decided to go with a local organization with a clean record. After being snide with me I was asked to provide an address where the check could be sent, after giving them my mailing address I was told the check had been mailed on the 21st of July 2015. After eight days I requested that they verify the address they used, as eight days was a more than a substantial amount of time to receive a check sent from California to Washington. That email was subsequently ignored and no response was given.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of the $300 I was charged.

Review: I used their service to help write my custody response which I recieved what was discussed, but my mom paid the one-time fee on her debit card and she noticed tonight that they have been charging her 24.99 a month since. We never signed or were aware that they could do this. If there is anyway you can help retrieve her money I would greatly appreciate it.Desired Settlement: Waiting for her to make sure its only 24.99 a month they took but if thats the case 299.88 is what they owe her.

Review: The representatives from About the Children played upon the emotions of my (single parent) daughter and attempted to "bait and switch" her into paying them over $1,000 for "free legal assistance by using more and more "hard sell" sales techniques. They made one authorized charge to my credit card in the amount of $98 and now I see they have made another unauthorized charge in the amount of $24.99 after we we had terminated our relationship with them and expressly forbade them from taking any more money from my account. About the Children is not "about the children" at all. They are a bunch of greedy people and it is all about how much money they can suck out of your bank account for highly questionable practices.I have reported their activities as fraudulent to my bank.Desired Settlement: My desired settlement is to have my money restored to my account and to put the word out to be very, very careful when deal with this organization.

As this complaint states, this complaint

was not made by our member, but by her father. Although (as he states), Mr.

J[redacted] gave his daughter permission to use his billing information to pay for

our services, we cannot accept his complaint as accurate or valid. As stated, Mr.

J[redacted] agreed to help his daughter financially. It was his daughter who read

and accepted our very honest and straightforward Terms & Conditions, and

who actually communicated with us in regards to our services (including the

fact that she called to cancel 3 days AFTER her 1st monthly

membership billing of $24.99). Had Mr. J[redacted] contacted us directly, I am

certain that we could have answered his questions in a satisfactory manner.

The Terms & Conditions that Ms. T[redacted]

agreed to state that she must call PRIOR to any monthly billing date (therefore

no refund is in order)… However, as a courtesy, we are willing to refund that $24.99

that was charged to Mr. J[redacted]’s account. At the time of this response, we were

unable to reach our member, so we left a voice message for Ms. T[redacted] to contact

us directly. We are asking that she confirm that Mr. J[redacted]’s Visa account is

still open, so that we may issue a refund in the amount of $24.99. We truly wish both parties the best,

sincerely, [redacted]

Review: I have a problem with the way About the Children doesn't follow through with what they say they will. They want $98 up front and as soon as they get that they want another $990 before anything can be started. I feel I was decieved and mislead.Desired Settlement: All I want is my initial fee of $98 returned to my debit card.

On Thursday, 10/03/13 Mr. [redacted] enrolled for our services, (and as stated in his complaint) was aware that our Doc fee may be $990 - - - - - and on 10/04/13 member was qualified for a Financial Hardship (reduced) fee of $690 and asked us to contact him “in a week.” ----- However, over the weekend, Mr. [redacted] (emailed us stating) that he wanted a refund instead... The following Monday, ATC made several attempts to contact member to set up a refund to his account (not home and we also left a phone-voice message). ----- On Tuesday, 10/8 we able to speak with Mr. [redacted] and set up a full refund of $98. ----- Mr. [redacted] had stated that all he wanted was a refund and that he would be willing to give ATC a positive review… We spoke with Mr. [redacted] today (10/22/13) and he requested that this complaint be retracted and not negatively reflect this/any misunderstanding. ----- We sincerely wish Mr. [redacted] the best of success in addressing his family law issue. ---- Sincerely, ATC

Mr.

H[redacted] enrolled with ATC on 6/6/2014. On 7/15/2014 Mr. H[redacted]er called to pay

$200.00 of his $590.00 total document fee to get his documents prepared.

On 7/22/2014 Mr. H[redacted]er was reminded that payment in full is required to send

his documents UPS that he will file with the court. On 8/8/2014

Mr. H[redacted]er approved of the prepared documents and sent an email saying

he approved of them.- Mr. H[redacted]er was again reminded of his final balance of

$390.00 would need to be paid in full before he would receive his

documents

via UPS. Mr. H[redacted]er then emailed that he wouldn’t have the final balance due

for a month. ATC let Mr. H[redacted]er know that we understood , and Mr. H[redacted]er

said he would contact ATC with the final payment in the next month or so. -----

On 10/24/14 After not hearing back from Mr. H[redacted]er , ATC contacted him to

let him know that we had not heard from him ,and wanted to let him know

that he could make payments or pay the remaining balance in full. Mr. H[redacted]er

then said he would need more time to pay.

Several

phone calls and emails to Mr. H[redacted]er during the month of November 2014

were never replied to or returned by him. ----- On 11/24/2014 Mr.

H[redacted]er called and again put his account on hold for the final payment

due , and let ATC know changes had occurred and he would need to

update his documents. Mr. H[redacted]er let ATC know at this time he could not

pay his remaining balance until February 2015. ATC told Mr. H[redacted]er we

understood and would wait for his call. On 2/25/2015 Mr. H[redacted]er called

to pay his remaining balance of $390.00. Mr. H[redacted]er was asked to make the

updates he referenced previously to his documents, so that ATC could

finalize the changes and send him his documents. On 3/12/14 Mr.

After further review of Mr. H[redacted]’s complaint, we must

add the following; even if Mr. H[redacted]’s situation required additional document

(pages)… we have a signed contract stating our no refund policy, and the “Terms

and Conditions” that Mr. H[redacted] accepted state that we will modify, correct

(re-do) the documents we provide to our members at no additional cost to a

member(s). A statement from anyone that more information/papers were needed is

not suffice to merit a refund. Both parties here have (two-way) obligations,

and it was clearly Mr. H[redacted]’s choice to do something on his own and/or

choose not to contact us… As stated in our original response, “We have been in business for over 6 years and our email AND

contact phones work fine”. In addition, our main website number has a toll-free

number that all our members (initially) reach us on – ALL we do is help parents

– why would we not have working numbers and emails??? A little effort on

Mr. H[redacted]’s part would have allowed him to contact us. Keep in mind – the same

Review: In April 2013, I had contacted About the Children because my grandson had been taken out of the state of California. The first person I spoke to said that they could help me get guardianship of my grandson, even if he was not in the state of California. He told me to sign up with their program to get started and that s**eone would call me the next day to start resolving the issue. One of their representatives, T**, had called me the next day and asked me about the situation. After I gave details about the situation, T** said that About the Children wouldn't be able to help me unless my grandson was in the state of California but the man the day before said that I could and got me to sign up for their program. When T** said that they could not do anything for me because he was not in California, he also said that he would put everything on freeze. Saying that I assumed he meant freeze everything as in monthly payments. I told T** that I had already bought my Grandson an airplane ticket to c**e to California in August of 2013. T** then told me to call About the Children in August to help me get the guardianship papers. My Grandson had arrived in August and I called About the Children to speak T**. I told him that my Grandson had arrived in California and that I was able to get guardianship by myself at the Court house here where I live. T** said that I no longer needed their services and I agreed, so I assumed I wouldn't be charged at all because they didn't do anything for me and T** said he put it on freeze. Later in April of 2014 I found out I was being billed $25 a month the entire time fr** april of 2013 including and initial charge of $98. I then contacted their supervisor Barbara who said she could only refund three months back and said things should have been done differently. I feel very disapointed that this c**pany would charge this huge amount of money when I was unaware and not even refund me because they did absolutley nothing for me and made me believe twice that I was not being billedDesired Settlement: I would like the full refund of $300.00

Response:

As can be seen by reading Ms. [redacted]s’ complaint, her situation was a little confusing because it was necessary that she (needed to) wait for her grandson to move locations… Having originally enrolled (and speaking with us) in April, Ms. [redacted]s next contact with us was four (4) months later -- although we did agree to put a hold on assisting her, Ms. [redacted]s’, her account was never canceled. ----- In short, we understand why Ms. [redacted]s feels her account should have been canceled in August of 2013 (and therefore seven (7) months of billing are in question, three (3) of which have already been refunded to Ms. [redacted]s) ----- We spoke with Ms. [redacted]s today, Monday, 3/24/14 and informed her that we have issued her an additional refund check in the amount of $99.96 to her confirmed address on file. ----- Ms. [redacted]s was satisfied with how we resolved this issue with her, and we truly wish her the beast of success. ----- Sincerely, [redacted], ATC

I am rejecting this response because:

I did not use their service, they had told me that they could not help me because my grandson was in Washington state not California, and if he did arrive in California in august , then they could help me with the guardianship paperwork, and that is when I assumed the payment would begin then, and my grandson did arrive in California in august, so I called them to inform them that I had already had done the guardianship papers through the court in the town I live, so I would not be needing their service. then in march when I received my statement on my credit card of the charges, I had called ATC to ask what it was for, and that’s when I realized they had been charging the entire year for a service that they could not help me with, that’s when I asked for a full refund of $300.00 back because they did not do anything for me to help get my grandson, I feel I am entitled to the full $300.00, since they were well aware

They could not help me at all. The whole reason I called was to try to get my grandson out of Washington State, who was in a place with terrible living conditions, but they could not help me, so how can they charge for a service they did not do? They absolutely did nothing for me , and if they were able to help me I would have surely paid them the fees that they were asking, but they did not help me and even after I let them know I didn't need their service they continued to bill me.

I spoke directly with Ms. [redacted] today, Monday April 7, 2014 – In addition to our original response to the Revdex.com regarding Ms. [redacted]’ complaint; About The Children, LLC (ATC) has agreed not to challenge (refute) any additional “charge backs” initiated by Ms. [redacted]… ATC not refuting Ms. [redacted]’ requests for any refunds, will allow Ms. [redacted] to receive credits to her accounts more quickly that otherwise. We truly wish Ms. [redacted] the best and we are glad we were able to completely satisfy her. Sincerely, R. Trevino, ATC

Ms.

[redacted] enrolled with ATC on 1/8/2015. After Ms. [redacted] agreed to our Terms and

Conditions, it was agreed that the fee to type her documents would be $690 and

she paid $200.00 to continue/start the process. On 1/26/2015, Ms. [redacted] spoke

with customer service and said that she was unwilling to participate in mediation

which was stipulated in her divorce decree and a stipulation for modification.

At this time Ms. [redacted] decided to have ATC prepare documents for contempt , as

her opposing party was not following the current court order and (this) contempt

would not require mediation. ------ Documents were prepared for Ms. [redacted] and

sent for her review on 1/30/2015. Ms. [redacted] made some revisions and then

approved her documents on 2/18/2015. Ms. [redacted] paid her final

payment of $490.00 and approved the documents and shipping address on

2/18/2015. ------ UPS then delivered Ms. [redacted]’s documents which she signed

for on 2/24/2015 . On 3/10/2015 Ms. [redacted] spoke with customer service and was

upset because child support was not addressed in the contempt documents she had

ATC prepare. It was explained to Ms. [redacted] that only issues addressed in the ORIGINAL

order would be referred to . No child support was mentioned or addressed in Ms.

[redacted]’s divorce documentation. At this point Ms. [redacted] asked for a refund. ------

She was told that no refund would be offered as ATC prepared the documents she

had requested. Later that day, Ms. [redacted] spoke with a supervisor saying her

documents were rejected. Ms. [redacted] was then asked to fax over the rejection

letter from the court. No rejection letter was received by ATC. ------ On

3/12/2015, Ms. [redacted] emailed and then called to say that she needed additional

documents for the court to file with what she had already successfully filed

from ATC. We were happy to comply with Ms. [redacted]’s request and prepared the additional

documents. The documents were prepared and emailed to her to print

immediately on 3/12/2015. After speaking to Ms. [redacted] on 3/12/2015 , ATC

believes that whatever issues Ms. [redacted] had with ATC have been successfully

resolved. Ms. [redacted] was told to feel free to call with any additional needs or

concerns. ------ We truly wish her the best of success. Sincerely, [redacted], ATC,

On 3/10/15, Ms [redacted] told us that her court

documents were “rejected” (and when asked, she was unable to supply us with a

rejection letter from the court)… Ms. [redacted] was assured that we would work

with her to resolve any issue she had with the documents we prepared for her…

------- Ms [redacted] contacted us again on 3/12/15 and stated she needed (more)

documents to be submitted, in addition to the documents that she had ALREADY

submitted (we supplied her with required additional documents)… The bottom line

here is that Ms. [redacted]’s continual complaining is unjustified and no refund is

in order, as she received her original documents, and (at no additional charge)

also received additional documents that were needed, and we are still able to

assist her should she need any further assistance… IT SHOULD BE NOTED: While

most of the time, members don’t have any issues filing their own documents, it

her documents would be $690 and she paid $200.00 to continue/start the process.

On 1/26/2015, Ms. [redacted] spoke with customer service and said that she was

unwilling to participate in mediation which was stipulated in her divorce

decree and a stipulation for modification. At this time Ms. [redacted] decided to

have ATC prepare documents for contempt , as her opposing party was not

following the current court order and (this) contempt would not require

mediation. ------ Documents were prepared for Ms. [redacted] and sent for her

review on 1/30/2015. Ms. [redacted] made some revisions and then approved

her documents on 2/18/2015. Ms. [redacted] paid her final payment of $490.00

and approved the documents and shipping address on 2/18/2015. ------ UPS then

delivered Ms. [redacted]’s documents which she signed for on 2/24/2015 . On

3/10/2015 Ms. [redacted] spoke with customer service and was upset because child

support was not addressed in the contempt documents she had ATC prepare. It was

explained to Ms. [redacted] that only issues addressed in the ORIGINAL order would

be referred to . No child support was mentioned or addressed in Ms. [redacted]’s

divorce documentation. At this point Ms. [redacted] asked for a refund. ------ She

was told that no refund would be offered as ATC prepared the documents she had

requested.

[redacted]’s request and prepared the

additional documents. The documents were prepared and emailed to her to

print immediately on 3/12/2015. After speaking to Ms. [redacted] on 3/12/2015 , ATC

believes that whatever issues Ms. [redacted] had with ATC have been successfully

resolved. Ms. [redacted] was told to feel free to call with any additional needs or

concerns. ------ We truly wish her the best of success. Sincerely, [redacted],

Ms. [redacted] enrolled into our program on 11/25/14. On

12/12/14 Ms. [redacted] paid 200.00 to begin her documentation. Per her request, “Rough

Drafts” of court documents were prepared for Ms. [redacted] and sent for her

review. On 12/29/14 she paid her

remaining balance of $290.00 and approved of her documents. Ms. [redacted]’s

documents were delivered to her via UPS and signed for by Ms. [redacted]. ------ On 1/16/2015 Ms. [redacted] called

and spoke to a customer service rep. regarding her filing the documents with

the court and waiting to see if the court would waive her filing fee (so clearly

Ms. [redacted] was able to find the courthouse for her documents that she said she

filed). ------ On 2/3/2015 Ms [redacted] sent an email stating that the court had

her throw out her documents and prepare her own. This was an usual statement to

hear regarding the court, as they do not offer legal advice. It was explained to Ms. [redacted] that per the

Terms and Conditions that she agreed to, and per the contract that she signed, that

if there were any issues regarding problems with her documents, that she were

to contact ATC to resolve the issue. Our Terms and Conditions include that we

(ATC) will correct and/or modify any documents if/as needed - Ms. [redacted] did

not contact us. ------ In addition Ms. [redacted] was asked to provide a “rejection

letter” from the county clerk in regards to our documents being rejected. Ms.

[redacted] failed to provide us any such letter (a private email from someone other

than the county clerk was sent - It was not on official letterhead and was

clearly not a court rejection letter). It

was brought to Ms. [redacted]’s attention that the private email was not acceptable.

Ms. [redacted] chose to ignore our request to produce any official documentation

from the court. At no time has Ms.

[redacted] requested further documentation via phone call or email in regards to

her paperwork. As Ms [redacted] was informed, we welcome any request from Ms.

[redacted] regarding any further documentation needed so that we may resolve this

matter, and assist her further. ATC

stands behind the documents prepared on Ms. [redacted]’s behalf, and it is our

position that our policy (clearly provided to Ms. [redacted]) includes that it was

her responsibility to allow us to correct or modify the documents we provided

her. For the above reasons, no refund is in order, and we continue to welcome Ms.

[redacted] to contact us, should she require further assistance with her document

preparation, correction, and/or modification. ------ We sincerely wish Ms.

[redacted] the best of success, ATC, LLC.

We stand by our original

response (which can be found at the bottom of the following

statement/paragraph). ------ Ms. [redacted]’s latest letter states, “…paperwork

I needed finished “I filed my own”.” In addition, an EMAIL we received stated

that paperwork “did not meet Arizona statutory requirements” (not that

it wasn’t needed). With that said, it should be noted that the primary reason

that no refund is in order is that, ====================== Specifically, the

following needs to be noted::: It was explained to Ms. [redacted] that per the

Terms and Conditions that SHE AGREED to, and per the written contract that SHE

I am rejecting this response because I feel I derserve a refund this company has done nothing but bring problems to my life . They are NOT all about the children . Waste of time and money . You people should be Ashamed to even call yourself all about the children. I hope this post is posted on Revdex.com I want everyone to know this company is a fraud. They just take your money without any explanations. I see that I'm not going to receive my refund if I can suggest one thing to you people maybe you should talk to your customers more and let them know options before you just take their money. To anyone wanting to use this company I suggest you go to the courthouse first the packets are only two dollars these people overcharge and then in the end don't care about your feelings at all not your children . Don't let the slogan fool you.

Regards,

Review: I got on line to find a free legal aid layer to get custody of my kids. I came across http://www.aboutthechildren.org/ and gave them a call. I paid a one time fee of $98.00 to get started thinking that was it and I would get the help I needed. After that they told me about the other fees witch I told them I cant afford it. That's when they told me I could not get my $98.00 back. So I went for it thinking I would be contacted by a layer but a year went by with no contact from anyone. I called them to complain about the $24.99 they have been taking out of my account each month. They said they would cancel my account but they could not give me a refund.Desired Settlement: They took about $300.00 from me, the money came out of my daughter's S.S.I check. All I want is her money back.

Response:

Mr. [redacted] called ATC on 7/25/2013 inquiring about help in

preparing Court documents. It

was made clear to Mr. [redacted] that

we were not a legal aid service, nor a law office, but a document preparation

company. Mr.

[redacted] was told there was a one-time enrollment fee of 98.00 and a monthly fee thereafter of 24.99. At

that time Mr. [redacted] was informed that he could

cancel his account with us at any time if he chose not to move forward. Mr.

[redacted] enrolled into the program on 7/25/2013 and received a call later the same

day from our Welcome Desk re-explaining (confirming)

everything Mr. [redacted] was told earlier in the day. In

addition, Mr. [redacted] was told the range

of costs for having documents prepared by ATC, and told we are not a law office

and an attorney would not be representing him. Mr. [redacted] could have cancelled his account via email or a phone call to ATC. At no

time did Mr. [redacted] cancel his account prior to July 29, 2014. ----- On July 29, 2014, Mr. [redacted] called

to cancel his account. At that time Mr. [redacted]’s account was cancelled and

he was sent an email informing

him of his requested cancellation. It was explained to Mr. [redacted] that as with any

membership, a refund is not due once a member cancels… We

feel Mr. [redacted] was properly informed of our

policies for enrollment and cancellation. ----- For

the above reasons, no refund is in order. As a courtesy, we are willing to apply all of Mr.

[redacted]’s membership fees, towards the cost of his documents, should Mr. [redacted]

decide to have his court documents typed by ATC. ----- We

wish Mr. [redacted] the best and look forward to assisting

him in the future, should he decide to move forward.---- Sincerely, [redacted],
