Afni mailed the initial notice of the account on or about February 15, 2017. On April 16, 2017, Afni furnished the credit reporting agencies with notice of the account. On March 30, 2018, *** notified Afni that a payment on the account in the amount of $was received; making the new balance owed $On April 12, 2018, Afni received this complaint. In response, Afni ceased communication and initiated an investigation. Afni has attached copies of the account billing statements to this response; these are provided as validation of the account. Afni mailed the initial notice of the account on or about March 29, 2017, to Amby Avenue, Plainview, NY 11803, which is also the same address the consumer listed on her complaint. Afni did not receive any notice of returned mail, and as a result, can infer that the notice of rights was received. Afni received the account from *** and acts as an agent on behalf of ***; therefore, the consumer would not have a contract with Afni. Afni is a third party collection agency and does not own this debt. Additionally, a signed contract is not required to establish telephone service. Afni has attached identity theft information for completion by the consumer. The consumer should fill out this information and return it to *** Fraud Management, OCA Dispute, KSOPHE0202-2C516, *** Parkway, Overland Park, KS 66251, so *** can conduct a thorough investigation regarding the consumer’s fraud claimsThe consumer may also contact *** Fraud directly at *** if she has any questions regarding the fraud or investigation process. Upon completion of the fraud investigation, if it is determined by *** to be a valid case of fraud / identity theft, the account will be closed and removed from the consumer’s credit report. This is in response to your Revdex.com inquiry. Afni appreciates the opportunity to respond to the consumer’s concerns. On December 14, 2016, *** *** forwarded the subject account, *** *** account #: 5***, Afni, Incaccount #: ***, with Afni for collections on the
balance of $The account is for cellular services established on December 27, 2011, until *** *** considered the account delinquent on May 25, 2012. The billing address associated with the account is *** *** ***, Lillington, NC 27546, and the phone number is ***. Afni attempted to mail the initial notice of the account to the consumer on January 20, 2017, to 1* *** *** Elkton, MD 21921, which is the same address the consumer listed on the complaint, and received notice of returned mail. Afni mailed a new initial notice on the account on April 14th. On March 19, 2017, Afni furnished the credit reporting agencies with notice of the account. Between March 27th and September 14th, Afni received multiple disputes from the credit reporting agencies, reviewed all relevant information, and responded appropriately. On April 2nd, Afni updated the credit reporting agencies on the disputed status of the account. On November 6th, Afni received an email from the consumer requesting payment for deletion. Afni does not accept payment for deletion on consumer credit reportsOn November 7, 2017, Afni received this complaint. In response, Afni ceased communication and initiated an investigation. Afni has provided bill copies for the consumer's reference. On November 9th, Afni received another dispute from the credit reporting agencies; while Afni has not responded yet, Afni will respond appropriately. To address the consumer’s concern, when a consumer submits a dispute through the credit reporting agencies, Afni responds directly to the credit reporting agencies. The account was updated as identity theft as Mr*** denied knowledge of any service with ***. A fraud packet is attached for Mr*** for completion. Afni encourages the consumer to return the Fraud Affidavit within days to *** for investigation. The completed affidavit can be faxed to *** at *** ***. Additionally, *** does not require a police report. Placing a fraud alert with the credit reporting agencies is a suggestion and not required to investigate a fraud claim. The consumer may also contact ***'s Fraud Department at (866) 718-if they have any questions regarding the fraud process. Afni will send a request to the credit reporting agencies to remove the account from the consumer’s credit report. Please be aware that it can take the credit reporting agencies up to days to update consumer credit reports. Afni has no control over how quickly the credit reporting agencies update consumer credit reports. Afni trusts this response has addressed the consumer’s concerns, but if questions remain, or if he would like to discuss the account, he may contact a Consumer Relations Specialist at *** ***
