Big O Tires Reviews (267)

Regards,

The Flagstaff Big O Tires' representative's inability to recount the events that occurred truthfully makes it quite clear to me that they will not reliably attest to their error.  I did not just show up when they were closed and ask them to fix my tire.  I had called beforehand and they advised me if I were able to make it in by 15 min that they would accommodate me.  I would have much preferred if they had said no, because I would not have lost more than $600 in repair cost and rental car fees.  Furthermore, they placed the jam nut loosely when they replaced my tire (which they admit in their statement) and that resulted in damage to my vehicle.  Their private conversations with the mechanic that repaired my vehicle and their conclusion "that the service we performed had nothing to do with her problem" is irrelevant. They provided poor service by leaving the jam nut loose, regardless if they believe it wasn't the source of the tie rod misalignment.  My vehicle was in perfect working condition prior to their service and has routine maintenance.    Flagstaff Big O Tires can continue to provide incompetent service and I will be sure to inform in reviews and warn my friends against their shoddy service.

Mr. [redacted] had his oil changed at another facility. When Mr. [redacted] had brought his vehicle in he was informed the drain plug was leaking and had been striped. It was explained to Mr. [redacted] that the plugs are stripped when installed not when they are removed. He was given the option to have a rubber...

universal plug installed, he choose to do the universal rubber plug. These plugs are no way to be a long term repair. When Mr. [redacted] returned to have his oil changed on the 26th he was informed prior to the oil change service being done that the universal plug showed signs of leaking. Mr. [redacted] was informed that the long term fix was to replace the oil pan and secure the drain hole with the proper plug. Mr. [redacted] stated he did not have the money to do that type of repair. He was offered the repair at cost prior to contact with the Revdex.com. When Mr. [redacted] stated he was not in a position to pay the repairs he made it clear he would contact the Revdex.com. Mr. [redacted] was then called again the evening of the 26th and had it explained to him that we would like to retain him as a customer and would do the repair for half of the original estimate. M. [redacted] accepted the offer and scheduled the repair for July the 2nd. When the repairs were made Mr. [redacted] was informed his vehicle was also do for a fan belt replacement, that repair was also done for the cost of the belt only with no additional labor. We did ask Mr. [redacted] as well to go in and update his complaint to show it was resolved.

The car was not leaking oil when it was brought into Big O tires and it didn't start having problems until after it was brought into the shop for an oil change. There has been work done on the vehicle since the first oil change in your shop it just wasn't done at that shop and still no leaks from any part of the car until it was brought into Big O tires. Also when we brought the car in the shop on Friday, [redacted] did not attempt to punch anyone [redacted] walked away and my brother sinply told him don't walk away from us this matter is not solved. The police were not called to escort us off the property as a matter of fact he sat there and talked to me about what to do and even stated that never bring a car for routine maintenance to a tire shop, take it to a "real" mechanic, the police offiers words not mine. The police officer even advised me if I feel they did something wrong to contact my attorney. He never escorted us off the property. I don't know what Big O did to my car, but again it was not leaking oil from anywhere before it was brought into their shop and if it was leaking I'm pretty sure it would have been told to us. I have attatched pictures that was taken on my phone, the date of the pictures can been seen on the copy that is on my phone. I also have a video, which was taken at an [redacted] after leaving the shop on Friday, because we had to buy more oil. I also have more pictures that were taken in Heber before we went to Payson Big O and after. Pictures and video were taken on the dates 6/3, 6/4, 6/5, 6/6. I have more pictures and a statement issued from another mechanic shop that I took my car to on Saturday to find out what was wrong. Big O tires caused on oil leak in my vehicle and they need to be responsible for their mechanics error.

Regards,

We installed a used motor in June 2013 it came with a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. In June 2014 customer called said she had a problem with a spark plug we talked with shop they replaced the spark plugs and when the customer was in [redacted] later we looked at her vehicle everything was operating...

properly. At the time of the spark plug were replacement customer had put over 26,000 miles on the engine it was out of the warranty period but we still reimbursed the customer for the cost of the spark plugs and the labor to install them. Now customer says she has the same problem and wants me to warranty the other shops work. If there was a problem with the spark plug threads it can be fix very easily using a timesert. We called the shop and tried to suggest a fix for the supposed spark plug issue and they hung the phone up. I believe the customer most likely overheated the engine and warped the head and that is why the shop is replacing the head. I say this because the customer made a point to tell us that the vehicle had plenty of coolant in it. Either way the motor now has over 34000 miles on it which is 22000 miles out of warranty.

The owner ([redacted]) did call me regarding this complaint. Although he was slow to apologize, I appreciated the phone call. My plan was to do Big O a favor by removing my complaint. However, I feel that I can no longer do that because Big O continues to be insistent that  I purchased a battery at a store that I had never once been to prior to my having to drive there to exchanged a battery that I never purchased. I no longer believe that Big O stole my battery, but something unexplainable did occur while my car was in their possession and Big O has been entirely too hesitant to acknowledge and sincerely apologize for that.

Regards,

Mrs. [redacted] is correct that we advertise in the paper a $21.95 oil change up to 5 quarts conventional oil, oil filter and rotation, most cars and light trucks.  The key words  conventional oil.  Mrs [redacted]'s car takes a high grad 0-20W synthetic oil.  If we put...

conventional 5-20W oil in her car it would void her engine warranty and we would be liable if that engine developed any kind of problem.  You can view the attachment from cars.com which is a consumer reports for what a consumer should pay for an oil change.  Our cost for her oil change without tax was $39.95.  Where part of the problem is, starts that Mrs. [redacted] dropped her car off and stated that she needed an oil change really bad because she was late in doing it.  We tried to call her 3 times   Mrs. [redacted] never returned the calls.  When she finally arrived and was told or the additional cost for her oil change she became very angry and stated that we were just doing a bate and switch.  We never do a bate and switch and never will.  We even offered the oil change for free to try and make Mrs. [redacted] happy.  When she stated that she was still going tell everyone that we were still a bate and switch operation and was still being angry, the manager changed his mind and stated she would have to pay the regular price.  We even took a check when they are not suppose to take a check.  Mrs. [redacted] is more than welcome to go to her car dealer where she stated she has had her oil changes done.  If she checks with them, I am sure she will find that our price is much lower.   As you can see in the newspaper add it states convention oil.  We did all we could to please Mrs. [redacted].  Mrs. [redacted] is welcome to try other auto repair shops.  But we will not put in any product not recommended by the manufacture. I am so sorry that this happened, but we did what was right and offered more than we needed to.Rick S[redacted], owner

Customer is upset because he had an un-repairable flat on his vehicle. The customer did not purchase a tire warranty that covered a free replacement from Big O Tires. Customer declined this option on the tires. Which he understands, but what he is upset about is he wants a tire to match his set he...

bought in March. We have spoken to this customer on 3 separate occasions about the availability of the low cost 19 in tire. We are not able to get the tire from our local supplier because the tire is on back order. I tired to explain this to the customer on the first conversation and again in following conversations. We are not the manufacture of tires. The tire is on back order form the company that makes them.  We can not get him an exact match. He is upset and feels like we should have told him when he bought is tires that in case someday you need another tire you might not be able to get a match. I tried to explain to him that is ridiculous; all tires like any other product have a life cycle. They get updated, they get new molds, they have next generations and I have no control over when that happens. I could not have known that he would have a flat 4 months later and need a replacement. And have known that it would not be available. I spoke to the customer again today when I received his Revdex.com complaint. He still wants to complain about the availability of his matched tire. I tried to explain to him again I do not build the tire, and offered again an alternative option of like quality, design and price but he does not want it. I really do not know what I can do to help this customer. I have tired speaking to him over and over again with no resolve. He has spoken to my corporate office, that even offered him if he wanted a better tire to give it to him at the same price he paid for the last tire. He does not want this. Today the conversation was left with I am very sorry I can not get him the same tire but would love to help him in the future. I wish I could have been more help; I do value the opinions of customers and wish I could have done more. [redacted]Owner Big O Tires

On December 18, 2015, my 82 year old father in law was having driver side window issues, my father-in-law is a retired USN SeaBee (21 years), honorably discharging as a Senior Chief, with 2 tours of duty in Vietnam ;

Not knowing where to go he pulled into Big O Tires. These people charged him $215.99 for a window regulator and $133.99 for a window switch, plus $95.00 labor. Then demanded CASH, total invoice $498.94

Part # DOR 741-738 ($215.99), AND DOR 909872 ($133.99)

These are Dorman parts and any auto parts store stocks these for $99.99 and $79.99, respectively. A mark up of $170!

They called my home once and left a message.  When I dropped the vehicle off, I told them I would not be at home.  My feeling is they should not have completed the oil change without my approval on the amount.  Also, the same oil can be purchased at [redacted] for $24.00 for 5 gallons.  You would think a large purchaser like Big O would get a break on the price.  Of course I was upset when the oil change cost 3 times the amount.  Also they knew what kind of vehicle it was and should have told me there might be an issue with regular oil.  The fact I was lat by 27 miles is not the issue, the issue is they charged triple without my permission.

Bought tires from big o tires about 2.5 years ago, when I did, I purchased a tire protection plan that was 3 years/30000 miles. I recently had my side wall crack in two of the tires. I took it in to have them replaced under warranty. Two of the associates told me they would be covered under warranty, so I agreed to have them replace the tires. After having my car in the back for a while they came up and informed me that because of the tread being under a certain amount they will not honor the warranty. They then tried to up sale me on everything. I knew my brakes where starting to go, but they tried to tell me that I would wreck if I didn't have them replaced then tried to charge me over $500 to replace them, then they told me my water pump was leaking and tried to charge me another $800 for that, or else my car would die while driving down the road. My originally quoted price of $50 for a warranty exchange turned into a $1500 dollar repair and no warranty. I don't recommend this place, or the warranty to anyone.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve the issue. All I request is an inspection of the damages with both vehicles present...

as well as a third party official. I would also like to see in writing the test drivers and mechanics account of the time my car spent in the shop, detailing what work was done and which bay the car was stored in. If you would like to set up an inspection with your insurance provider both the vehicle and myself can be made available anytime. I would very much appreciate your co-operation in helping me find out what happened to my property.

Regards,

I went to Big O for 2 tires which they have advertised online but also showing the store's address. I went there for 2 of he $42.99 tires,I was told they do not stock those tires and also that they're not very good tires. So I bought the tires they did carry even though I was on a severe limited budget due to being a disabled veteran on a fixed income. When I came back for the tires I paid for the bill and left. On the way home I found in their receipt that I had been charged $16.00 for nitrogen air. I was never told of this charge I have searched their website and this charge is nowhere to be found. Why would there be a charge that is never explained or advertised and why did I have to have nitrogen in a 18 yr old car? Still to this day their website advertises the lower priced tire as the first choice and they do not stock it, which is clearly a bait and switch, they should at least add in the online page NEVER IN STOCK, because I have never been in a situation where I had time to order and wait for tires. ALSO I would have never paid the bill or accepted the tires if I would have been told that airing the tires up COST $16.00.Product_Or_Service: VEHICLE TIRESDesired SettlementI want a refund of the Nitrogen air that was not presented to me, or told about. PLUS I want their website to state when a tire is NEVER IN STOCK, it SHOULD SAY THAT.Business Response In response to case id [redacted], I have called Gary and he simply was not explained about the Nitrogen ,,There for a complete refund of 16.00 will be made. he actually stated to me he was glad he bought the better tires as they were only 5.00 more each ,, He also stated he will be in 2 weeks to get more tires , I will credit the money at that time . Also he said he would rescind the complaint ,, Thank You [redacted]..Consumer Response Dismiss this claim asap. The company worked out the issue via phone.

My husband and I broke down 15 miles outside on [redacted] on our way to California. We have [redacted], so we called for a tow to the nearest [redacted] approved repair shop. The problems began right away and culminated in the single worst experience I have ever had with customer service. First, the tow from Big O took twice as long as initially predicted. We called the store while we were waiting to get a quote on an alternator because we were pretty sure that was the problem. The owner ([redacted] I believe?) gave us a quote around $360 out the door and said he was ordering the part to be there in the morning since it was already late in the day. We got a hotel and called the next morning. They told us they were just getting started up and that we should call back in 30 minutes. We called back and were told they were looking at it and that we should call back in two hours. We called back and were told that they wouldn't be able to look at it for another hour. They were rude the entire time. In another hour, we could not stay at the hotel any longer to we walked to the shop to wait. The car was still untouched. After arriving and treating us rudely again, they pulled the car into the bay and then started ordering the part (which they said they did the night before). After a little while they came out with a price $70 higher than original and when my husband asked about it, the guy denied the entire conversation and said we must have called another store (we check our cell phone, we called the right store). He then refused to service our car because of our attitude. We took the car to another shop and found out that he purchased the part we needed and would not return it. He called other shops trying to purchase all of the other parts, so now we are stuck here another night. Terrible experience with a very dishonest business man.Product_Or_Service: Auto repair, replace alternatorDesired SettlementI wish to make this known and to warn other consumers not to use the businessBusiness Response Contact Name and Title:[redacted] OwnerContact Phone: 775-623-4089Contact Email: [redacted]First of all Big O Tires does not own tow trucks, second of all when she came in with her dog she came straight up to me and said I Im not talking to you right now cause I'm so mad right now. [redacted] went and got her dog some water and a little later the lady had asked for water and again [redacted] got her a bottle water. I really cant understand why she was so angry. When the car got pulled in to the garage and we looked at it and went over the estimate with customer and he was mad because it was to high and that he had gotten a quote over the phone with a someone and I asked him who and he didn't know and he said it was a man. I explained the cost of difference was the diagnostic. When people call and want an estimate for parts it does not include diagnostic. He said he was tired of being lied to, I did not understand where he was being lied to and I told him that we go out of our to be honest and professional, so not to have any issues, it was best for him to take his car some where else with his attitude and his wife's attitude, its always our goal to make sure that we get out of town people on the road, we never turn any one away nor would we leave them stranded, we go out of our way to make sure everyone is taken care of in a timely matter unless its out of our hands.

Review: I started taking my two vehicles to Big O Tires on [redacted] in Scottsdale about a year or so back. It started out pretty good – cheap and pretty good service as I took both of my vehicles there for new tires. However, the recent two times have not been very good.

The issue I would like to get compensated for was when I brought in my 2014 Camaro SS 1LE for 4 new tires. I had called earlier and they said it was going to be $130 for all 4. Fair enough, but when I showed up they said they had a new machine that they needed to pay for and the new price was now $150, an additional $5 per wheel. Annoying and surprising but not that big of a deal, besides the tires were already shipped there and going somewhere else would have been an additional burden. So, while I was not happy about the pretty unprofessional additional cost they squeezed out of me once they knew I probably wouldn’t go somewhere else, what’s really troublesome is that three of the wheels got scratched on the outside of the wheel (one pretty bad, two less so).

I went back the next day and talked to [redacted], one of the guys behind the desk. He looked at the wheels, seemed responsive enough and promised to have his “wheel guy” call me. Well, nothing happened for a couple of weeks. So, I called back a total of two more times (spread out over time) and talked to [redacted] again, each time hanging up with a promise that the wheel guy would call. Again, no wheel guy, no response whatsoever.

After this much time and numerous calls to [redacted], I am pretty sure they have just decided that they really do not need to bother with my scratches. I find this remarkable that a well-known tire shop does not take responsibility for damage to customer cars.

Beyond this complaint, I also wanted to share what happened when I brought my Porsche 911 in for new rear tires. While that was done well enough, they also unbeknownst to me put the car up on the alignment lift and checked the alignment. They said that the rear alignment was off and needed to be adjusted. Because I do my alignment elsewhere and because I had planned on adjusting the front alignment to a more aggressive setting anyway, I declined their offer. So, naturally when I a couple of days later went to an alignment place I trust (Network Alignment), I also asked them to check the rear alignment and to my great surprise it was right at specification and needed no realignment.Desired Settlement: I would like to get compensated for what it would cost to respray/refinish two of the wheels on my car (the third had some previous damage). At this point, I do not want to have their "wheel guy" do the job.

Response:

We are sorry to hear that Mr. [redacted] was not satisfied with the work done on 8/19/2015 on his Camaro. Mr [redacted] purchased tires elsewhere and had them shipped to Big O Tires for us to install. Apparently, he was quoted $130 for the installation. According to the invoice he was charged $140 for the installation. The additional $12.09 was for shop supplies and sales tax. Those items would have been added to the $130 price also, so the actual difference was $10 or $2.50 per tire. I'm not sure why he was charged $10 more unless it had something to do with the tire size, but we are sorry there was a discrepancy. Our invoice from 8/19 indicates there was some damage to the wheels prior to the service so it is difficult for us to determine when they may have been damaged. We would be happy to refund Mr. [redacted] the $152.09 he paid on 8/19 since he was not satisfied with the service he received.Sincerely,[redacted]Big O Tires

Response:

The response from Big O Tires is entirely unsatisfactory. It focuses mostly on the price increase, which is not the main issue here but even so the respondent somehow manages to misrepresent that as well. As I clearly stated in my complaint, when I showed up at the store, the person said it was going to be $5 more per tire for an increase of $20. So, clearly the $130 quote was including tax and shop fees. But that's not the main point. The main thing is that the person employed by Big O I cited in my original complaint clearly acknowledged that it was damage to a couple of the wheels (I showed him that the previous damage was on only one wheel too, so that's a non-issue). That's why he said that his "wheel-guy" will call me directly to look at/fix the damage, which he repeats the next two times I contact him. The damage to my wheels and the lack of follow-through is the issue and that's why I am seeking compensation.

I visited to have my check engine light looked at and was told it would be $99. They said if it was something simple like a gas cap they would only charge me for the cap and refund me the rest. Eventually they said I needed 2 new evap lines that would "cost about $99 with installation" which seemed a bit convenient. I asked if this was the cause of the light and was told yes. 20 minutes later my car was ready and told "by the way we also replaced your gas cap". Less than a week later my engine light came back on. This type of experience only supports the car repair stereotype that the customer is going to get cheated.

So disappointed with the Mesa A/P tires I bought in California at Big O for my 5th wheel. 23585r16 load rate E. Purchased them in November 22 2010. I had a blow out Oct 25 2015 on a trip to AZ for the winter. I took the problem tire and wheel into Big O at Casa Grande, AZ for a possible adjustment. The first thing out of the service mangers mouth was " these tires are 7 almost 8 years old. I explained that I wasn't sure when I bought them but was sure as I misplaced my receipt. He also declined to measure the remaining depth which is probably 90% He finally agreed to call the store where I made the purchase and had copies faxed to their office. Once we went over the invoice which proved the purchase, I discovered the Big O sold me 2 almost 3 year old tires.(Common practice?) So he agreed to replace the blown out tire (I suspected a defective as well as old tire). I left the tire and wheel and 20 minutes later he called us on our cell phone exclaiming this time that we drove the tire flat and ruined it and they would not replace it. I explained that I was driving and heard it blow out and I stopped it as quickly as I could. I asked was there a nail in it or any other evidence of a flat and he told me no. I also explained that it shredded so bad that it also did $1500-$1800.damage to the side of my 5th wheel. He said hang on a sec and I will let you talk to someone else. So I was transferred to a female who kept arguing that it wasn't a blowout or a defective tire............Palm to the face speak to the hand attitude. Then they said I refused to purchase Tire Protection........refused to purchase tire protection ??....... I didn't think I was offered that option to tell the truth, let alone there is no warranty on new tires? Very disappointed.....with Big O in general and this dealer could have done a better job in PR rather than spending so much time declining a claim.

These guys were great, very helpful and friendly staff. I would highly recommend them.

Review: On November 10,2013 I bought four new tires for my Land Rover and Had the alignment done.. The invoice number [redacted] and the order number is[redacted].

At the time of service, I was informed that all worn-out tires had been worn out very evenly, which means my vehicle was in perfect alignment conditions before

the service was performed. At that time the Odometer read 92,379 miles. I am writing to you to express and complain serious problems that have incurred to my vehicle after receiving service from

Big O Tires. I have followed the instruction given by their employees; which were to rotate the tires every 5,000 miles. On Friday, March 2014 I Took my vehicle to get the tires rotated ( at 95,483 miles ~less than recommended),and I was informed of the following: -The two front tires were worn out from inside! when I saw them were totally worn out from inside, the manager told me it was because the alignment, which is absurd he told me that, because they did that type of performance in my car couple month ago, what it really happened and is obvious they performed a very poor quality of alignment service in my car. ones the manager ([redacted]) show me the tires he told me that I need a brand new tires again because the two front tires are very worn-out from inside and was dangerous to drive the car under this conditions...They put a brand new tires, they performed the alignment and after 3,000 miles after they told me cause the alignment that they performed I need to buy brand new tires again????? it was their fault because they aligned the car...Manager told that its my fault because I supposed to knee down and if all the tire are been worn even...that's only show the luck of professionalism and also the manager gave me every excuse possible in order to divert his responsibility and that of the company.. I Have call Corporate office different times also sent a fax explaining the situation but I haven't have any response from Corporate..I Asking to resolve this matter as followed...1. Big O Tires replace two Tires: no cost to me 2.Big O Tires perform a professional alignment : no cost to me

Review: I went to the shop to have my tires rotated, which is a free service because I bought my tires there. I was told that they would not perform the free rotation service until I paid them to fix a tie rod end that they said was so worn out it was unsafe to drive the truck. I had changed the tie rod ends personally and knew they were not that worn out, so I questioned there conclusion. They became very hostile when I questioned them and arguing and profanity were used in the response to my questioning. I have had similar dealing with this business in the past where they refused the advertised free services until you pay them to fix some problem that they always seem to come up with on your vehicle.Desired Settlement: If they are going to operate under questionable and deceitful business practices they should be forced to have a sign warning customers that the advertised free services are at there discretion, and may not be performed due to any number of questionable reasons.

The customer came in for a rotate and balance on his truck on May 2nd, 20X3. The truck had a bad left outer tie rod end and he was told that if he got it fixed the truck could be rotated. I tried to show him, but he said that he did not believe me and he wanted his truck pulled out of the shop. He was the one that used profanity and called me a liar. He said that he was never coming back. I never tried to sell him anything, He later called back and told me that he looked at his truck and that the part was bad> but that we still should have rotated his truck. I told him that we did not rotate his vehicle because of insurance liabilities. We are responsible if we are the last to work on the truck. I told him that when he got it fixed, we would rotate it for him. The customer said that it didn't matter because he was never coming back inj so I said there is no need in talking about this then! We have rotated his truck before with no problems. The documentation is enclosed. We have a professional responsibility to let the customer know of unsafe partSj not only for themselves j but for the public in general.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 9528452, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.]

Regards,

I was told by Big-O there were several things wrong with the front end of my truck. I was told the inner and outer tie rod ends were both shot and possibly the ball joints were bad and it needed an alignment. They told me they would not work on the truck until the problems were fixed and tried to sell me a quote. The employees at the store used every bit of profanity that I did and I did call him a liar because he was lying. I regularly grease and inspect the front end of my truck and at all times have a very good idea of the condition of it. The minor problems with my one tie rod end were in no way nearly as bad as they were trying to make them out to be. Working on a tie rod end is not rocket science and anybody with half a brain can tell if one is bad or not and this one, while slightly worn, was not at all a hazard. The excuse of liability reasons and them being the last ones to work on my truck are just stupid. They were the last ones to work on my truck before I took it to them this last time too, by there reasoning they would have been liable for my truck anyway as they were already the last ones to work on it. This business is preying on people who have no idea how to work on a vehicle, and probably have little if any idea what is under the front end of their vehicles. They dramatize and exaggerate very minor problems and use it as an excuse to refuse to provide the free services they promise until you pay them to fix a problem that may or may not even exist. I am now stuck with a set of tires that I will have to pay another business to service because of Big-O's refusal to work on my vehicle in a honest and professional manner.
