Review: I am filing a complaint against the company CarTagz. CarTagz is not affiliated with the California DMV in any way, but when customers such as myself go to the official DMV website at [redacted], we get redirected to CarTagz to make payments for auto registration renewals, as was the case for me. I have never renewed my vehicle registration online, so I was under the impression that CarTagz was the service that handled online renewals. They are not. I was charged in excess of $40 dollars for fees unrelated to my California registration (officially $108) and when I contacted the CA DMV, they informed me that many complaints have been filed against CarTagz. How this company is able to redirect users away from the official CA DMV website to their website as though they are affiliated with the CA DMV is not only misleading, but an invasion of users privacy, and a gross act of fraudulence. The CA DMV won't refund the fees I was charged, and CarTagz offers no customer support on their website (https://www.cartagz.com). In fact, the only number provided on the CarTagz website is the number for the CA DMV. This company needs to be investigated and their victims, like me, compensated. I hope you look into the situation and do your utmost to make sure that future actions like I have described--and the the CA DMV admits is a big problem, when I spoke to them on 3/26/15--is remedied. Thanks.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of the fees I was charged. The exact figure is $45.56. I can provide documentation if required.[redacted]

Copy of registration cant get this without being connected to the DMV.the (V 71) is the cartagz site ID

Consumer

Response:

Hello,I am rejecting this response because: I do not understand the business's response. They have not addressed my complaint at all: all I see is an attachment of my paid vehicle registration fees in the amount of $108.00. What I am disputing, however, is the $45.00 service fee that Cartagz charged me. I did not voluntarily go thru the Cartagz website when I renewed my registration: I was re-directed from the official CA DMV website to Cartagz without my knowledge or consent, and this is what I am contesting. I request a refund of the $45.00 fee. Sincerely,Dr. [redacted]

Review: Cartagz mailed me tags worth $20 for some other car and family because they said I put in the wrong license numbers. They did charge me a payment of $272 and still the wrong tags. I have emailed proof what they charged me and what I got and since I put in the wrong license number there is nothing they can do.Desired Settlement: I got tags worth $20 so that is what I should pay for. Refund the difference. Thank you. I still have not got the license they say I asked for.

Cartags fees and sur-charges are ridicules. I paying an extra $53.00 on my registration.

I went to the DMV site to renew my car license as was redirected to the cartagz site without knowing that it was not DMV. I paid the additional fees like a dummy and
am very angry at such deceptive methods.

Review: Girl friend registered tried to register my vehicle. She click on CarTagz and proceeded to register truck. she called me at work and told me the amount and there was almost 70 in extra fees on this service. She used paypal to pay so I called them immediately. They said they could not stop payment. I called car tags and could not get an operator. Then I called my bank and cancelled payment. When I emailed cartagz, they said our website is clear and you cannot get out of the transaction. When I explained the situation, they said sorry, you still have to pay. Have saved e-mails. However professional they may have been structured, they where condescending. Funny, I immediately registered vehicle using the DMV web site and received my new tags in three days. They claim overnight services and fast deliver.... that's why the charge the extra 70.00 to register vehicles. I think I may have been scammed. We made a mistake, and I will pay. I just want them to be recoded for future reference.Desired Settlement: It would be nice to get a refund. But I really want this company to be documented. Maybe if enough people complain, they will get looked at.

In response to order [redacted], the customer paid on 5/11/2015. The orders are completed instantly and since the order was paid after closing hours, it was shipped the next day on May 12. The Cartagz website will not allow the customer to pay until they have read and agreed to the terms of use. The customer stated that they received their tags 3 days later from the DMV. The DMV is not able to complete and mail the renewals within 3 days of paying. The average time is 2-3 weeks. We will refund the customer, if their registration has not renewed yet and the registration they received from Cartagz is returned whole and not used. The sticker must still be in the plastic sleeve.Thank you,[redacted]

Review: I ordered my registration tags from them, never received them. Mailman came every day and never had them . I have a security mail box. No one can steal it. Cannot leave message. Everytime I call mailbox is full no mater what time of the day. I emailed them, now they say they are responsible if I do not get them. I paid an extra fee for this. Company says it was mailed to my om 3-2-15. THis is the day I ordered it. I can get a ticket by not having icket which means more money and then I have to go to the DMV and repurchase this. I payed this company a fee so that I did not have to go to the DMV. I want tthem to take care of my problemDesired Settlement: I want my service fee back and I want my Registration tags.

My issue is I cannot get my tags for 1 month. I can get tickets while park because I have expired tags. I can get stopped and get a fix it ticket, all ending in more money out of pocket. I relied on them to do what they said they were going to do. I have no prove that they mailed it. Only a message stating it was sent. I know that the fee was paid. I confirmed it with the DMV. I paid an extera 4.50 to get it to me. I got an email form a person from cartaz ([redacted]) stating the order was paced and sent out and no tracking was issued. If I payed that money why was there no tracking on it.[redacted]

Review: This company operates using very deceptive practices. I went online to what I thought was the CA [redacted] website to pay my car registration. I paid my registration, thinking I was dealing with the [redacted], the $29 fee was not clearly displayed. It wasnt until I received an overnight package from Cartagz.com, that I started wondering why the [redacted] would be sending things out via courier. I opened it, expecting to receive my registration tag, but only found a [redacted] print out that said *INCOMPLETE APPLICATION* SMOG INSPECTION/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED I was confused because the inspection facility I used electronically transmits the results to the [redacted]. In addition to the receipt which was printed on [redacted] paper, there was another page that stated Please note: Cartagz.com is not notified by the smog technicians system. I called the [redacted] and left a request for a call back. In the meantime, I email Cartagz asking why they wouldnt be able to accept the smog processing the way it has always been done and wanting to know what they needed from me, since I still dont have my tags, it is now Sept. and my previous tags were only good through August. I received what seemed like an automated reply that my order was now processed. The [redacted] called back and explained that I must have somehow ended up on a 3rd party site who charges to process the registration. She also stated that it is unfortunate that this happens to a lot of people who think they are using the [redacted] site. I even commented to the woman at [redacted] that I didnt notice being charged a fee to process, so I pulled up my confirmation email and clicked on the link to my transaction (the info wasnt even detailed in the actual email), the $29 fee was listed, but I only received this link AFTER my payment was processed. I also have a problem with the e-copy fee of $5, that I did agree to, but should not have been offered to me since they werent able to completely process my transaction without having received my smog verification.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of all of the fees that would not have been charged by the [redacted]. I do not choose to do business with a company that operates so deceptively. The [redacted] was able to verify today that there is an order pending for my registration. If I do not receive my reg. sticker in the next few days, I would like a full refund, so I can deal directly with the [redacted]. If the delay in receiving my tags causes me to get a traffic ticket, I will hold Cartagz responsible due to their deception.

I have reviewed the letter sent by [redacted] In her letter Ms [redacted] indicates that Cartagz used deceptive practices. In the letter Ms [redacted] did not indicate why or reason she feels deceived. Not knowing why she made the statement in her letter Cartagz would like to offer the following public information from the CA [redacted] website. Cartagz is a [redacted] ,California Occupational Licensee and a (BPA) Business Partner Automation (Partner). Caratgz has been a BPA and Occupational Licensee and under contract with the CA [redacted] for over 10 years. Cartagz has over 1mm visitors each year who need help or need information regarding their CA Vehicle Registrations. This Link is to the CA [redacted] website [redacted] provides information regarding Occupational Lincesed Registration Services. Here is an excerpt from the Ca [redacted] website.

Review: I used Cartagz.com service to renew the registration on my friends vehicle. They took my money and then I didn't hear from them until I received registration information on someone else's vehicle. I've tried calling several times but get recording saying voice mail box is full. I've emailed them several times and never heard a peep from them. This obviously is either a horribly poor run company or another Internet scam..... I would never recommend them and encourage everyone to stay away...[redacted]Desired Settlement: I just want my money refunded.$210.00 DMV fee$8.00 DMV BPA$29.00 Cartagz Service Fee$5.88 Convenience Fee (joke)$4.50 shipping FeeTotal: 257.38I should be charging them for the registration late fees now but Just want to forget I ever used them.

Review: Deceptive advertising. I Googled California DMV and dmv.gov was the first listing. I clicked on it believing it was the correct website based on pictures and the statement it was supported/sponsored by the California DMV. It was not until the last page and hit send that I realized it was a private company instead of official DMV (government)website and I was charged $50.66 in fees. I tried to contact them to no avail. I believed it was the official website based on how it was set up, I trusted this was the real deal based on the statements on the website. very deceptive advertising with hidden fees. Customers beware! Can you please look in this, thanks.Desired Settlement: Refund of hidden fees: $50.66

Business

Response:

Cartagz is 1 of 4500 private registration services. Cartagz is a third party advertiser on Dmv.org's informational website. The Department of motor vehicle's url is : www.dmv.ca.govGoogle provides search results just like a phone book. Many advertisers use Google to advertise. Once on Cartagz website, the website does not allow the customer to pay the DMV registration fees until the customer reads and agrees to the terms of use. We provide expedited service at our customers request.

SCAM BEAWARE. I went online to renew my registration and I typed in DMV.ORG, (The Website looks just like the DMV.CA.GOV website) it filter me to this Cartagz website. What a scam, I though I was renewing my car registration via the DMV's website but it was not. I gave them my car information which they now have. I gave them my debit card information. I called my bank right away and had them reverse the Fraudulent charge, then they charged me again and I had to filed a claims. I was going to pay them 210.99$ vs the ACTUAL DMV fee of 120.00$. Why have the government not put an alert on this website or closed it down yet. It is not affiliated with the DMV, therefore they should not even have DMV in their name or anywhere on their website.

Such a rip off and such a SCAM, makes me so angry. Taking advantage of innocent people the way they do. I mean 8$ for a BPA fee ... Come on. How dare they link this to the DMV.

Review: I am a highly-educated executive and I, too, was duped by this company. Thinking I was on the California DMV site, I ordered and paid for a replacement for my vehicle registration card to be delivered both online as well as via mail service. I received an email back asking for a copy of my drivers license in order to process the order then....nothing except a canned email with a phone number that does not work. I then went to their 24/7 support page on the website to find out 24/7 means you can put in a request 24/7 but they may or may not respond. My e-copy was supposed to be delivered immediately, it was not. I was supposed to get confirmation of the hard copy immediately. I did not. I have filed a fraud alert with my bank and I am filing this complaint via Revdex.com and I will also go to the police if this is not resolved immediately. I will utilize all available channels to ensure that my information is destroyed, that I am not charged and that the public is made aware of the deceptive practices of Cartagz.com. You ought to be ashamed at your ethics and deceptive practices.Desired Settlement: I want my money refunded. I want written assurances that my drivers license and personal information have not been shared with any parties and will be destroyed.

Review: Paid Cartagz.com $323.45 on September 10,2014 to renew the tags for my car which expir ed 10/24/2014.As of today I still have not received my tags I have contacted them by email at least 4 times,,the last time to request a full refund as they have not been able to provide the service they have been paid for.The phone number listed on their website is not a working number. I sent for replacement tags and registration to the [redacted] and paid a penalty because it was past due.I just need a refund from cartagz.Desired Settlement: Refund of full amount paid to cartagz as credit to my account.

Review: I was renewing tags for my car and wanted to pay online. I search the DMV website and was redirected to Cartagz without any knowledge. I thought that I was on the legit DMV website because I am very afraid of being a victim of a scam. This was my first time ever paying online. I entered all the information and was told the amount. Still having no clue that this was not the official website proceeded to pay the full amount of a little over $1,300. Days passes and no tags, I was visiting the DMV with my daughter and wanted to ask how long the process for my tags would be. She searched the computer and told me she had no record. She even called the supervisor to help out. She also called Sacramento and was advised that this was a third party purchase. Still I had no problem with it. If Cartagz follows through with my tags then I will be an ok. The problem occurred when the Rep. told me that my tags are only 781.00. And that the amount was wrong that cartagz was charging me. I than tried to contact Cartagz there is no working number and the fax number rings like a regular phone. So Im afraid that I have just lost my money. I then logged on to the website to find that my payment was taken out of the account and wanted to see the cards holders identification card. I have no problem with that my son purchased my tags and will be willing to forward any addition information. My problem is that Cartagz amount is different from the DMV. There is no working number to contact the staff at the company. And now youre asking for addition information that cannot be forward to anyone. Meanwhile my DMV fees are unpaid but the company has been paid in full a different amount than what the DMV requires. This website is very misleading and has brought a great deal of frustration to my family. Who relies on my transportation to and from work! This type of business has to stop!! The treatment is very unfair.Desired Settlement: please contact me with an itemized break down of my fees so I can better understand the conflicting amounts between Cartagz and the DMV. I am willing to pay the correct amount but nothing more. Also somewhere on Cartagz website before a person pays fees I suggest there be a message to alarm all customers this is not an official Department of Motor Vehicle website. This is a third party website to better serve you!

Review: Review: Cartagz.com was linked to, what I thought, was a car registration reminder from the California DMV. I processed my registration and then to my shock, was hit with a total of $277.19 for what should have been $239. The charges, which were NEVER CLEARLY DISPLAYED were: $29 processing fee and a $7 Convenience Fee??? and a $2.50 Postage Fee. $38.50 is NOT a convenience when you can process your registration on DMV website for free. Their website is clearly set-up to portray the look of, and make you believe that you are dealing with the true and legitimate California DMV website. Their marketing practices are CLEARLY deceptive and a total misrepresentation of who they really are. I immediately phoned the Cartagz.com at their ###-###-#### number which is a recording. Your options are to either leave a message or, if urgent, send an email both promising to respond by the end of that business day. I immediately phoned them throughout the day, to hear that their "mail box" was "full". Waiting on email response.Desired Settlement: I want a full refund credited to my AMX account (in their system) in the amount of 277.19 [redacted]
