FanDuel Inc. Reviews (290)

Review: I created an account with FanDuel, Inc. on Tuesday, 3/**/14. During this process, I applied a $10 charge from my credit card to my account, for future personal use.

Upon logging in to FanDuel's online interface the following day (Wednesday, 3/**/14), I received the following message:

"User suspended or deactivated. Your account has been suspended from further use pending the outcome of an internal investigation (please contact us if you want further details)"

I contacted FanDuel's customer service department to request a refund and inquire about further information. Contained in the company's response was the following request:

"To activate your account, we respectfully request that you send a scan or photo of your driver's license and credit card used front and back so we can simply match up the information. You can cover the first 12 digits, but please leave the last 4 visible. This is done to protect you, the card holder, and us as a legitimate business. While I certainly understand any hesitation in providing such information, I can assure you we protect all of our users' financial and informational privacy.

We have refunded your $10 deposit yesterday 3/**. Please allow 3-5 business (M-F) days for these funds to be credited back to your card used to make the deposit."

I believe this request to be highly unusual and in direct violation of PCI compliance regulations. Additionally, I have received no email confirming the refund of $10 to my credit card.Desired Settlement: I believe that this company is requesting from its customers an unreasonable amount of personal data be transferred by means lacking necessary security protocol, and that this practice should be reformed.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

Review: I signed up for Fanduel after hearing a radio advertisement stating I would receive a 100 percent deposit bonus up to 200. I placed 25 dollars in and only received about $1.80 total. Why are they advertising that I will receive a 100 percent bonus if I really am not.Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded due to the false advertising. At no place in the radio commercial did they mention any sort of stipulations at all.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

Review: If a daily fantasy sports competitor has net earnings of $600 or greater, the people at FanDuel are required to submit an information return to the IRS. This requires them to submit my name, address, and social security number. That is the only personal information that they are legally required to request. I supplied them with this information a long time ago.

My earnings for the year exceeded $600 around June of this year. Since then, I have made numerous withdrawals and deposits between my [redacted] account and my FanDuel account. Two days ago, I attempted to withdrawal a portion of my account to pay for basic living expenses. An automated form was generated requesting the same tax information that I had already sent them. Even though they had no right to require me to fill out this information again, I compromised and resubmitted the information. Every time I tried, I received an error message stating that my information could not be verified, which is entirely nonsensical. There is nothing to be verified. They request the information; I submit it; they forward it to the relevant IRS department.

I want to make clear that at no time did agents/representatives of FanDuel make any effort to communicate to me that my account would, at some future date, be forced to undergo a reverification process.

It was a Saturday, and I happened to have the email address of Dillon B[redacted], a key accounts manager. I sent him a contemptuous email insisting that they allow me immediate access to my account and describe in detail their verification process.

He responded later that Saturday. He refused to describe their verification process. He refused to unlock my account. He admitted to intentionally denying me access to my account until I met their illegal and unethical demands.

I responded with yet another sincere attempt to resolve the matter. I reminded him that they are committing extortion and they have no legal grounds to hold my personal property. He, once again, refused to allow me access to my funds.

The people at FandDuel know that I am a professional daily fantasy sports competitor. They know that I am dependent on these earnings to pay for basic living expenses. They are premeditatedly holding my personal property hostage in an attempt to extort personal information from me. This is illegal and is just the last instance of a multitude of legal and ethical infractions committed by the people at FanDuel.Desired Settlement: The agents of Fanduel will:

1) Immediately release the hold on my personal funds and allow unrestricted access to these funds.

2) Agree to never place restrictions to this account without first giving advance notice of at least 7 business days.

3) Admit in writing that what they did was wrong.

Business

Response:

This users account has been fully verified and their account reactivated for full use of FanDuel. Thus, this matter has been resolved.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

1) The agents of FanDuel refused to immediately release my personal property; instead they continued to illegally hold it for 6 more days.2) The agents of FanDuel refused to even discuss giving advance notice before they place any future locks on my account.3) The agents of FanDuel refused to recognize that their unethical actions amounted to extortion.4) The agents of FanDuel refused to check their response for grammatical errors. Therefore, I wholeheartedly reject the notion that this matter has been resolved.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Sincerely,

Business

Response:

As per our support FAQ page, we have recently implemented a new verification process, which asks all FanDuel users who request a withdrawal (check or [redacted]) of any amount to verify their identity once. Even if they have provided us their tax details in the past, they will need to re-verify within our new verification system. This process is in place to ensure our users are able to participate in a safe and fair environment. In the event that a FanDuel user is unable to complete this process, we will be unable to process their withdrawal until they do.In regards to this current complaint, the user was having issues completing this process, which was preventing them from withdrawing. We reached out to the user to resolve the issue they were experiencing, and as mentioned previously, were able to resolve the matter.

Review: FanDuel.com is essentially an on-line gambling site. Somehow these sites have been sold to the powers that be as "daily fantasy sites". Fanduel basically serves as a host setting up various games revolving around player performance in all major sports. These games generate millions of dollars for the site. If you can explain to me how these guys aren't legal bookies then please do! That said, these daily (or sometimes multiple days) games involve selecting players based on a salary cap. All players are given a price and you must create a lineup that falls under this set salary cap. There are never players priced beneath a certain level. This minimum pricing is in place to maintain integrity so that people don't select a super cheap player and load up on all expensive players.

Recently, there were college basketball contests released with a huge error. They placed a player in the pool ([redacted]) with a $500 price tag. The lowest college basketball players are generally priced at $4,400! This was a huge error that was only found by 18% of the site. The other 82% of the site members were left to create a lineup without this glitch. Of course, all members of the site that found this glitch ended up winning a substantial amount of money that evening. That money came from the other 82% of the members that didn't realize that [redacted] was available at that price. In the past when fanduel has made an error such as this they will cancel out all contests involving that error. They will also post a banner at the top of the homepage notifying all members of the mistake. They did neither this time. When I confronted customer service via their chat they were unapologetic. There was further email correspondence which I have saved. In those emails they admitted knowing of the error a full 60 hours before the challenges were to begin. They opted to do nothing which is inconsistent with how they have handled similar situations in the past.Desired Settlement: Overall, I think this whole operation should be reviewed closely. There are many members with multiple accounts and its suspected that the site employs individuals to compete in these challenges which has to be unethical at the very least. The whole industry seems highly unregulated to me. I can't understand how any of it is more legal then betting sites (which are illegal). The type of money they are handling is staggering and there needs to be some accountability. For this particular instance, I do not require any monetary return (although I would have won close to $500 that night). I want this business to be punished for its arrogance. They should not be allowed to mess with this much money and not have any rules in place. I plan on filing a complaint with the local gaming commission as well.

Consumer

Response:

The resolution I desire would be for the site to be accountable and publicly downgraded. If that resolution is not suitable than I request I receive the $400+ I would have won had the site not committed this act of negligence.

Response:

Case [redacted]

FanDuel.com is a daily fantasy sports website and is completely legal under the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act of 2006. There is a full explanation to the legality easily accessible on our website at [redacted].fanduel.com/legal.

The issue described was an error we made in the pricing of a particular player for that days contests. It was an unintentional error as we build and launch contests days in advance. This error wasn't caught until a majority of the FanDuel user community had already entered our guaranteed contests. The law says we cannot change the specifics of a contest (prizes and the # of participants) after users have entered. Since we offer some contests as guaranteed, normally any errors we find we'll continue running the event. We make these decisions on a case by case basis. If our system creates an error that affects the users' ability to enter or edit contests, or, an unforeseen circumstance causes the game slate to drop below the two game minimum, we will normally cancel them across the board. In this case, the error did not fall into either of those categories. The error was simply a pricing error that was available to all players.

A part of what makes FanDuel so exciting to play is that we give our users full control and responsibility over their entries. We do not help users choose players for a contest. We offer the platform and the service that gives users the ability to challenge friends and play against other users. While we do make mistakes on occasion, the issue here was a minor pricing issue of one player which was available to all. In this situation, we decided it best for our user community to no cancel contests as this decision making is covered in our Terms of Use.

This user emailed us when this issue occurred and we responded within 16 minutes with an apologetic response where we described that we would not be canceling contests. Maybe the response did not suffice and is something we will look at and ensure our agents continued to be trained appropriately to handle these types of complaints. This user threatened us with legal action multiple times in this correspondence despite our repeated attempts to explain the error and our reasons for not canceling contests. We also had the individual who created the contest with the error reach out to this user to explain.

This matter has since been closed. The contests ran that night and no refunds or "hypothetical" winnings were granted to any users.

Review: FanDuel seems to me like a scam I want all of my money back also when I did my first deposit with the company they told me that I will get 10 to 500 dollars with the money I deposit in my account. It's a scam you do not get the money all at one time which they do not tell you that. I want all of my money back. I feel like I am being used. They are misrepresenting a service which you did not no the fine print until you see how they deposit the money that they match per entry you do in there system. That determines how much you get which that is not cool. They told me I would get the full amount once I deposit my fund with the promo code. My account user name is [redacted] Also I never win I want my money back. Respectfully, [redacted]Desired Settlement: To give me all of my money back because they are misrepresenting a service which you did not no the fine print until you see how they deposit the money that they match per entry you do in there system. That determines how much you get which that is not cool. They told me I would get the full amount once I deposit my fund with the promo code.

The users deposits totaling $200 have been fully refunded as requested here and the FanDuel account has been permanently deactivated. Our advertisements promote a deposit bonus match upon sign up. As standard with all daily fantasy sports gaming sites, any bonus received on deposit starts in a "Pending" bonus status. The player will accumulate these bonus funds as they enter paid contests. However, we explicitly describe how pending bonus works on our deposit page and in the deposit page FAQ in which users can decide then if the promotion is right for them. If not, they can simply choose to not deposit. We also flash a deposit success page that offers information regarding pending bonus and its available in our main support FAQ's. The terms of the pending bonus, how it works, its rate of release, etc., are all described to the user before depositing.

Sincerely,

Review: On 10/*/14, I requested to withdraw $14 from my account. I was told it would take no more than 48 hours to process the withdrawal. On 10/*/14 when I went to log on to my account I found out my account had been deactivated pending an "internal investigation". I was given a link to contact Fanduel's support/help desk. I have submitted 2 support tickets regarding this issue with no response. In the meantime my money is being unjustly held prisoner. I enjoy Fanduel but I just want all of the funds in my account released to me.Desired Settlement: I want Fanduel to release all of the funds in my account to me, totaling $24.80.

Business

Response:

It appears your account was flagged by our system for being linked to multiple accounts here at FanDuel. According to our Terms of Use policy, multiple accounts is a violation of our rules and could deem a user ineligible to further participate in our games. Looking at your support tickets, it seems our team has handled your situation, and refunded your full $25 from your second account. Your primary account is active.

Response:

I made a purchase on FanDuel.com they advertise play $200.00 we will match $200.00..........it is NOT a match but everytime a bet is made for a roster team... they give $1.00 towards a future bet! I was advised by Chat Team member Drew that he would give me $5.00 toward FanDuel merchandise.... it is not a dollar for dollar match but funds towards a future gambling stake.

Review: Wife [redacted] opened account. It was closed and they said I was a duplicate account. Found out she could have an account not via referral. So she opened a new account. Now they emptied it. They then Move 100 to the "closed" account and want sensitive info sent via email in order to withdraw it. They sent a 1300 dollar check without this.Desired Settlement: Leave the account opened with the pending bonus and move the funds back into it 104.11 or send a check for that amount so she can be done w/fanduel.

Sincerely,

I really enjoy the FanDuel experience. It is a really fun to play. Very inexpensive to play. What I am upset about is the very first deposit made was supposed to be 100% matched into a bonus account. I only received about half of that because I did not use a promo code when signing up. It never stated I needed a promo code to receive all of the funds matched. Also if anyone reads this the most disturbing feature of this pending bonus is that I have already deposited three different times, of which all the same value, and still have not received the matched funds. It wasn't my money to start with but the advertisement telling me my funds would be matched was wrong. It never mentioned anything about only receiving this matched money at $.04 for every dollar spent. I would have never played.

Review: FanDuel advertises they match first deposit dollar for dollar up to $200. This is not true!! FanDuel only pays 4 cents to $1. My first deposit was $100. I would have to play $2500 in games to receive my deposit bonus. They may have this information buried somewhere, but regardless, their advertising method is incredibly misleading to say the least. It's actually a down right lie!!Desired Settlement: I want my pending bonus of $83.64 that FanDuel owes me.

Business

Response:

This user has been provided a full explanation on how FDP are calculated, and has been informed that his FDP balance is fully accurate. To provide some context, FDP are FanDuel Points, and they are FanDuel's loyalty program that rewards users who consistently play our site. Users receive these FDP points every game they play, win or lose. These FDP are credited to users accounts at a rate of 10 FDP for each $1 entered. Thus, since this user has entered $147 worth of contests, his FDP balance is accurately showing as 1,470 ($147 x 10 FDP).

Sincerely,

Review: I created a contest on 5/**/2014 with fanduel.com and clicked the button that reads quote "FRIENDS ONLY". I then emailed a friend to play. They then matched me with a non-friend, someone I do not even know. FRIENDS ONLY means you know, FRIENDS ONLY. Fanduel.com should not provide a method on their web site to create a contest for quote, "FRIENDS ONLY" and then disregard that choice they provided. They obviously do this to increase profits. I want my $1 refunded please as their attempt to disregard the big large button titled FRIENDS ONLY becomes false advertisiing if they do not honor it. Thank you.Desired Settlement: Refund my entry fee of $1 for the contest on 5/**/2014 bringing my total balance to $7.80

Business

Response:

At FanDuel, we offer users a complete daily fantasy sports experience. We allow users to join pre-made contests as well as the ability to create their own. In this case, the user here created a "Friends Only" H2H (head to head) contest that was matched randomly with a public entry at game start which is a process that happens daily. Here's how it works in regards to this complaint...

User A creates a "private" H2H and sends the contest to his friend to join.

The Friend (user B) must successfully enter the contest before the game start deadline.

The contest will remain unmatched privately until entered by user B. Once the deadline occurs, FanDuel randomly matches all unfilled public AND private H2H.

If other open private or public entries under the same terms are available, all will be randomly matched until inventory runs out.

This process is clearly described in our Help section and has been a policy since we started FanDuel over 5 years ago.

The reason we do this is we've found that many users just blast out friend challenges because they want to participate in that evenings contests. It's disappointing if you have a friend that doesn't enter, so we randomly match unfilled entries up with other like-minded users who couldn't find a match. Since users pay for their entry upon submission, we feel the intention is to play out the contest. We understand that many users want to only play their friends, so if you wish to cancel your unmatched entries before game start, we allow you that option in which the user is fully refunded. Of course, if there are issues canceling, our support team is available via email and live chat between 8am and 2am daily.

On Thursday 5/[redacted] contacted us via email with this same complaint. We refunded [redacted] immediately the $1.00 he requested, made a note on his account as we always do, provided him an appropriate response with instructions on how to avoid in the future and solved the issue. 3 Days later, he contacted us via email again and complained of the same issue. Our support agent, seeing the note on the account from a few days earlier explained again why this happened but did not offer the refund. We chose this resolution because we feel that once a user experience an issue, gets an appropriate resolution, it likely won't happen again. In our industry, we have users who consistently attempt to take advantage of the system. While we do not feel this is the case here, our support agent stuck to our internal policies on crediting/refunding user accounts. Certainly, had the issue been escalated up the chain we would have provided another but last $1 courtesy refund.

To conclude, we have gone ahead and credited [redacted] another $1.00 to his account today 5/**. I have personally emailed him to apologize for the frustration and let him know of the credit. Hopefully we can consider this issues resolved. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Review: They are a fantasy football gambling site. They had a "special" offer that they would "match" any initial deposit up to $400. I deposited $100, and expected it to be matched $100. My balance was nearly down to zero, so I thought I had to lose my initial deposit before they would match. However, when I asked them about this, they said that they were already matching my deposit bit by bit. As of today, they have matched less than $5. So in reality, I would need to spend $2000.00 before I would receive the $100 "match".

I can't be the only one hoodwinked by this company. It's a shame because it's a fun product and I would have continued on with them as a customer if they didn't misrepresent themselves so blatantly.Desired Settlement: I would like my $100 dollars charged back to my card and they can keep their $4.64 "match".

Review: They advertised that they will match your first deposit amount. I deposited $35. I have spent my $35, and they have given me a total of $3 of my $35 that they promised. After emailing them, they state they give the matched money at a rate of 4% of what I spend. This means that even though I was told for my $35, I would get $35, I really dont get the $35 until I spend $875. This was no where stated, and I would never have signed up if I knew this was the caseDesired Settlement: They should be forced to refund money before they have a class action lawsuit against them. I know that I am not the only person that is getting scammed by this. It is dishonest, and wrong.

Review: If you watch the commercials it clearly states that they will match your first deposit up to $200.00. I deposited $25. Little did I know that they give you the match at a 4% increment per $1. FanDuel requested several articles such as a photo and copy of my drivers licence. I sent these things and other articles. Each time I sent something they rejected it.
