Complaint #[redacted] Consumer: [redacted]   We are in receipt of the consumer complaint filed by Mr. [redacted]. Intelius is an online public information website which collects and compiles public records and publicly available information via local, state, federal and other agencies. For...

additional information regarding how we collect and share an individual’s information we recommend viewing our Privacy Policy located at http://www.peopleconnect.us/privacy.   Per Mr. [redacted]’s request, we have removed his information from the Intelius database, as well as our affiliated websites. However, it is important to remember that the procedure to opt out is temporary. Intelius is constantly updating its database with new public records. It is possible that an individual may need to resubmit a request to opt out for any new records that may have been added to its database since their last opt out request. While we are unable to anticipate how, when, or even if information will reappear on our sites, we will be more than happy to remove an individual’s information upon request.    Managing personal information through the Intelius opt-out service is just one step in eliminating its availability. There are many other sites that may provide similar information found on our site. Public records sites, search engines, social networking sites and other online companies provide different levels of information about individuals.   This information should successfully resolve Mr. [redacted]’s complaint. Should your office or Mr. [redacted] have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].   Sincerely,   Tara M[redacted] Sr. IP & Marketing Compliance Manager www.intelius.com

different levels of information about individuals. We have removed the requested information from the Intelius database, as well as affiliated sites. We recommend Ms. [redacted] review our privacy policy located on the Intelius website at https://www.intelius.com/privacy.php.Generally, we do require an individual’s identity to be verified prior to processing an opt-out.   To do this, we request that proof of identity be submitted along with the removal request.  Proof of identity can be a state issued ID card or driver's license.  When uploading, faxing, or mailing a copy of a driver's license, we require that the photo and the driver's license number be crossed out.  However, we do need to see the name, address, and date of birth to ensure that all information is removed from our database.  If an individual does not feel comfortable faxing us their driver’s license or other state issued identification; they can send a notarized statement of their identity.Additionally, it is important to remember that the procedure to opt out is temporary.  Intelius is constantly updating their database with new public records.  It is possible that an individual may need to resubmit a request to opt out for any new records that may have been added to our database since their last opt out request.  While we are unable to anticipate how, when, or if information will reappear on our site, we will be more than happy to remove an individual’s information upon request.  We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this issue and apologize for any inconvenience.

I am rejecting this response because: I appreciate their explanation on public information being available but, unless an address has changed for example I do not see with technology available today where it is not possible to program their system when an individual has a concern for their personal safety such as in my case with an Order of Protection that any public records matching my personal data be automatically rejected and not be put into their system. They have a basic offering of the person's name and location and related persons to identify the correct individual being searched for but, other more identifiable and informative informative is available for a fee. This is purely for the company's profit at the expense of the person in their system. An individual's safety should take preference over profit. I am well aware this company is not the only such company providing such information as I have the task of dealing with those companies also.
Sincerely,

different levels of information about individuals. We have removed the requested information from the Intelius database, as well as affiliated sites. We recommend Ms. [redacted] review our privacy policy located on the Intelius website at https://www.intelius.com/privacy.php.Google.com is not our site so we have no direct control over the information appearing in their search results, however, we are more than happy to submit a removal request on Ms. [redacted]’s behalf.  If she would like us to do this, we ask that she reply with the URL where she sees the search result she wishes to have removed.  It is also helpful if Ms. [redacted] provides the exact search criteria she entered into Google.com which generates this listing.  Once we receive this information we will submit a removal request on Ms. [redacted]’s behalf to Google.com.Additionally, it is important to remember that the procedure to opt out is temporary.

I am rejecting this response because:While I appreciate that the company has "temporarily" removed my info, I do not believe I should have to constantly monitor your company to see if they have collected more personal info, and therefore re-posted my info to their websites.  Nor do I agree that your company should requires individuals to forward more personal info such as a driver's license to opt out. Furthermore, there is absolutely no reason why my info should not remain private in a file of  "Opt Out" individuals.  Therefore, your company has shown it's true agenda.  Which is to profit off of selling personal info to persons stalking individuals an (illegal activity).  And I hope one day a victim of stalking sues your company to get the laws changed.  I know if I am, you better believe there will be a lawsuit...

Intelius’s policy is to use all applicable means to deliver the information services to its customers.  The information we provide is gathered from selected public records and other sources.  The data is compiled into a comprehensive public record search that Intelius maintains with active...

updates from its sources.  Due to the nature of public records, Intelius cannot warrant the information provided is current, complete, or accurate. Per our Terms of Service, which Mr. [redacted] agreed to when he completed his purchase, Intelius has a no refund policy, however we want Mr. [redacted] to be fully satisfied with their purchase from Intelius.  Since he was not completely satisfied with the People Search Report and the Phone and Address Check, we have processed a refund totaling $8.90 to his account on August 9, 2017.  This refund ($3.95 & $4.95) will appear on his statement in one of the next two billing cycles depending on the closing date. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation in resolving this matter and apologize for any inconvenience.

I am rejecting this response As I previously mentioned, this is an unacceptable response to me. I feel that since this is your website, you have to try harder to protect people's personal information. I see no evidence that you have reached out to the "former partner website" to remove my information or that you have spoken with your IT dept. This is an active URL hosted by your company and your telling me there is nothing you can do. Makes no sense. Unsatisfactory, unacceptable, and very concerning to me. My personal safety is at risk.
Sincerely,

Complaint #: [redacted] Consumer: [redacted]   We are in receipt of the consumer complaint filed by Mr. [redacted].   Intelius is an online public information website which collects and compiles public records and publicly available information via local, state, federal and other agencies....

Public records are available from the official public records custodian or repository to anyone who requests them. In addition to public records, personal information may be publicly or commercially available. Publicly available information consists of online and offline information that is generally available but is not maintained by a government agency, such as names, addresses and telephone numbers of individuals and businesses, professional licensing and trade organization information, press releases and newspaper articles and content from blogs or social networking sites. For additional information regarding how we collect and share an individual’s information we recommend viewing our Privacy Policy located at http://www.peopleconnect.us/privacy.   While not required to do so, we do, as a courtesy, accept requests from individuals to opt out their personal information from our databases once they have verified their identity, usually with a government issued form of identification, such as a driver’s license.   Per Mr. [redacted]’ request, we have removed his information from the Intelius database, as well as our affiliated websites. However, it is important to remember that the procedure to opt out is temporary. Intelius is constantly updating its database with new public records. Intelius customers are presented with a two tier pricing structure when purchasing reports on the Intelius website.  They have the option of paying the full price, or a discounted promotional price which includes a 7-Day Pass of the Intelius Premier Plus Membership.  When a customer...

selects the promotional price, they are presented the benefits of the membership and the terms and conditions of the offer, including billing.  By choosing to proceed with the purchase at the promotional price, the customer agrees to the terms and conditions of the promotional offer. In this case, the promotional offer was accepted and the Intelius Premier Plus 7-Day Pass was activated.  As requested, the Intelius Premier Plus Membership was canceled on 11/4/2015 and a refund was issued for the total amount of $119.80.  The refund will appear on Ms. [redacted] statement ($29.95x4) in one of the next two billing cycles, depending on the closing date.  Again, all membership charges have been refunded and no future membership charges will occur. We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this matter and apologize for any inconvenience.

NOTE: Your card statement will show these line items

Notice that Intelius does not put the $29.95 in the "card statement" above. Nor does it put that where it claims the cost is only .99 cents. This is obvious manipution for which there have been previous compliants (that I believe I saw) with the Revdex.com. IF the charge stated:
.99 cents for the search
$29.95 for a monthly charge
...I never would have agreed to that price. Furthermore,.the monthly charge doesn't even state it ends in a year..it is each month until forever! I did not get a bill from Intelius for the  Premier Plus ..they went directly to my credit card company which notified me.
If the Revdex.com does not consider this deceptive I would like to know what they consider deceptive.

2) I was searching for a phone number for someone. Inteligius provided me three non-working numbers then claim they are not responsible for the accuracy of the numbers they provide. So they provided me useless information, sort of like giving me a belt that was cut in two. Essential, they did not provide the service requested, which is to provide a working phone number for my search.
3) They lie. I notice in their response they said they would cease charges on 6/29/2016. Yet I just received notice from them that they would cease charges 7/10/2016. Is that because they hope to sneak in another charge instead of clearing my account today?

I ask that the Revdex.com look at their website and note the numerous deceptions. Notice that you don't even really have a choice as all searches lead to the monthly charge. They claim that it is a special, but note there is no end date to the special pricing. I beg the Revdex.com to analyze their deceptive practices. The only reason they are ceasing to charge my account is because my credit card called me and notified me of the charge and I am taking action. They are not objecting because they provided what was requested (a valid phone number) or that they distinctly (as opposed to deceptively) listed their added charges and do not want my Revdex.com complaint on file.

Complaint# [redacted] Consumer name: [redacted]   We are in receipt of the complaint filed by Ms. [redacted] regarding her claim that Intelius enrolled her into a paid membership program and charged her membership fees without her permission.   Intelius customers are presented...

with a two-tier pricing structure when purchasing reports on the Intelius website. Each offer includes the standard one-time purchase price and a second discounted report price plus a one-week trial of the Intelius Premier Plus membership. If the user elects to continue with their selected report type but does not wish to continue the Premier Plus membership they are instructed to cancel the Premier Plus membership within the first 7 days and they will only be charged $7.95 for the Premier Plus trial membership. However, if the user does not cancel, the member is enrolled in the Premier Plus membership and their credit card will be charged a monthly fee of $29.95 (plus applicable taxes) going forward.   Intelius provides clear disclosures within the report purchase process of the Premier Plus membership offer.  Below, I have outlined the process and various places in which Intelius notified Ms. [redacted] of the membership offer and details.   On February 10, 2017, Ms. [redacted] purchased a discounted membership in the amount of $.95, which included a 7-day trial membership of the Premier Plus membership. Ms. [redacted] was notified of this offer and trial membership when she selected her report type and again on the payment information page. Additionally, she was required to manually select a checkbox on the payment information page before she could complete her report purchase that specifically notified her of the offer and the membership terms, including that her credit or debit card would be charged $29.95 (plus applicable taxes) if she did not cancel her 7 day trial membership, a phone number to cancel her membership, that her membership benefits would continue through the last month for which she paid and that there are no refunds or partial month credits. Ms. [redacted] was presented with language in the same checkbox that by clicking the button to purchase, she agreed to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy (with hyperlinks to each).   The “Automatic Renewal Program” section located under the “Paid Services” portion of the Terms of Service states: “Upon your acceptance of an offer for the purchase of any subscription-based Paid Services, you will be enrolled in our automatic renewal program to help ensure that there is no interruption in your access to such Paid Services. Under this program, you authorize us to automatically renew your subscription at the end of the term of the subscription you purchased, and each subsequent term, for the same term length of the subscription you initially purchased (unless otherwise stated in the offer you accepted). Unless you change your renewal status as described below, at the time of each such renewal you authorize us to charge your designated Payment Method at the then-current, non-promotional price (unless otherwise stated in the offer you accepted) for the renewal of your subscription. If you no longer want to be enrolled in our automatic renewal program, you can change your renewal status at any time by completing the following steps:   Intelius.com – cancelling your membership on the My Account portion of the Intelius.com Website or by calling (888) 445-2727.   Please note that completing these steps will only stop future automatic renewals of your subscription and will not impact any automatic renewals that occurred prior to the date that you completed these steps.”   Shortly after her report purchase, Ms. [redacted] would have received a receipt confirmation email sent to the email address associated with her Intelius account. This email contained the amount Ms. [redacted] paid for her report and the Intelius Premier Plus membership terms and conditions and instructions on how to cancel her trial membership.   According to our records, Ms. [redacted] did not opt out of the Intelius Premier Plus membership or contact the Intelius Customer Care team about her membership prior to the expiration of her trial membership. As a result, her credit or debit card was charged $29.95 on February 18, 2017 in accordance with the disclosures and the Terms of Service that she agreed to during her initial purchase.   Per the Terms of Service, Intelius has a no refund policy, however as a matter of customer courtesy, an Intelius customer care representative provided Ms. [redacted]’s with a refund on February 24, 2017 in the amount of $29.95. Ms. [redacted] should note this refund on her account within the next 30 to 60 days, depending on her financial institution’s billing cycle and internal refund policies.   This information should successfully resolve Ms. [redacted]'s complaint. Should your office or Ms. [redacted] have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].   Sincerely,   Tara M[redacted] Sr. IP & Marketing Compliance Manager www.intelius.com
