Nextdoor is a social network for neighbors to share locally relevant information and connect with their neighborsWith such a specific goal in mind we ask that all members abide by the Community Guidelines:
[redacted]
With over 150k neighborhoods around the US we can not actively monitor every neighborhood newsfeedTherefore we rely on our volunteer Leads to report and take action any activity that they feel violates our Guidelines
If a Lead has taken action that violates our Guidelines we ask that our Members contact us directly to discuss these actions so that we can verify and follow up with the LeadsI have reached out to this member to get further details about what they feel their Lead has been doing

Nextdoor is a social network for neighbors to share locally relevant information and connect with their neighborsWith such a specific goal in mind we ask that all members abide by the Community Guidelines:
[redacted]
One of those Guidelines is about Self PromotionIt reads: Nextdoor members frequently want to know about businesses and services offered by their neighbors, but do not want to be overwhelmed by unsolicited marketing offersTherefore, the following rules apply for members wanting to participate as a business on Nextdoor:
Allowed:
We encourage you to list your business or services on NextdoorBusiness and service listings are a great way to get the word out to your neighbors
To list your business, you should create or claim your business page* on NextdoorThis allows neighbors to easily find your business when they’re looking for help or recommendations
A business listing can be set up either by businesses or by individual neighbors offering services like babysitting, snow-blowing, or dog-walking
You may add your business affiliation to the Biography section of your profile
You may respond to requests for recommendations by offering your services like baby sitting, dog-walking, etc., as long as you are up front that it is you providing the service or that you are affiliated with the business you are recommendingSee our policy on conflicts of interest
You may let your neighbors know about job opportunities if the position is of particular relevance to folks in your community
Not allowed:
You may not make unsolicited posts about your business or service in the main newsfeed or via private message
You may not announce commercial events to the main newsfeed
To add commercial events such as real estate open houses or class schedules to the Events Calendar only, you must un-select "Announce to neighbors" AND select "Visibility: Allow anyone on Nextdoor to view or share this event."
This entire guideline also applies to individuals who occasionally sell homemade or hobby goods, or who provide casual services for extra income
This member has posted advertisements for his business times so far this yearWe have reached out to him about his posts several times and gone in depth in explaining these Guidelines to him on 8/19/17, 10/12/and 10/17/He refuses to accept that Nextdoor does not allow self-promotionMember is currently in Read-Only mode until agreeing not to continue posting self promotional posts

Ashley,Thanks for sending us this informationIt was what we needed toinvestigate, and we're fairly certain we know what happened.During the sign up process, we give members the option to haveNextdoor send invitation postcards to their closest neighbors byclicking 'Send postcards' and confirming
the send on the next page.Attached are screenshots of what those pages look likeAccording toour system records, Garland did click the "Send postcards" buttonduring the sign up process, which is why we sent the invitations tohis neighbors(I'm guessing he was clicking quickly through thedifferent pages and didn't realize that he had triggered the invites;I'm going to let our Product Team know about his experience, since wedefinitely do not want to send out postcards under a member's nameunless the person actually wants us to do so)

NEXTDOOR MEMBER AGREEMENT:Real? names________________________________Nextdoor's Member Agreement***/> requires that every member use
their full,? real? name? on Nextdoor.By? real? name, we mean the first? name? that you use when introducing yourself to neighbors, friends, and colleagues and your legal last? name.? (I USED THE NAME I USE WHEN INTRODUCING MYSELF TO NEIGHBORS)
Not Allowed:* Using initials or an abbreviated version of your last? name? is always prohibited? ? (I USED MY FULL REAL LAST NAME)
Notable exceptions:
We recognize that some people are primarily known by something other than their given first? name:* It would be acceptable for the catcher of the San Francisco Giants to use the? name? "Buster Posey" rather than Gerald Posey, the? name? on his birth certificate.?
* It would be acceptable for the football player "J.JWatt" to use his initials as his first? name,? since that is how he introduces himself.? (I USE MY 1ST AND MIDDLE INITIAL AND AM KNOW BY MY INITIALS, NOT MY GIVEN NAME)
?
I have repeatedly communicated this to Nextdoor and have even asked if they required affidavits from the neighbors who know methey last stated that I had to provide identification or they would not reinstate my account, but that is NOT stated in their rules -- they are making things up as they go!? ?
Sincerely,RI Eventoff

Anytime I was contacted from Nextdoor is was for a different reasonThey never explained what I had done wrong to violate the guidelinesThey only said I had violated the guidelines for replying to replies on my post (which is NOT a violation of guidelines)They also said every-time I posted a new post or responded to my original post it sends out a notice to all users and is considered 'over posting', which I addressed as each individual user had their own control over notifications on Nextdoor
Nextdoor also stated I have had numerous complaints about my postsI am still baffled about this since this appears to be an ongoing occurrence with Nextdoor that may or may not be tied directly to Nextdoor and very likely may be its membersOr both.?
The notification I received yesterday, again, was new informationIn this response he says times I had promoted my post; in his message to me it said I did it timesSo, his response to you and me are not a matchNextdoor appears to be inconsistent with where the violations have occurred and I continue to be confused; although I continue to make every effort to abide by the stated guidelines by continuing to read and reread the guidelines in order to find where I may have been in errorI continue to make an effort to follow all guideline and will continue to do so

Nextdoor Leads are volunteers within the neighborhood who helped create the Nextdoor community in the neighborhood they live inThey are responsible for inviting and welcoming new neighbors, answering general questions about the platform, keeping conversations civil and when members violate our Community Guidelines they can report and remove that contentOne of those violations is self promotionMembers are not allowed to post about their businesses on the Nextdoor newsfeed
When this specific issue was brought to our attention by the complainant in our Help Center, we researched the issue and found that the Leads in question were allowing members to self-promote in their communitiesNextdoor support then reached out to those Leads to discuss how to properly interpret the guidelinesNextdoor Support also removed the self promotional posts from the newsfeedNextdoor support also discussed the issue that several neighbors felt threatened and bullied by the member in question and highlighted the area’s of our Guidelines that deal with threats of safety

Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because:
I have asked them repeatedly "what form of proof" are they "requiring", and they have not answered.? And "WHERE on their site" does it state what forms of proof are required?? ?
The site says:? "the first name that you use when introducing yourself to neighbors, friends, and colleagues and your legal? last name."? So,? I asked if they wanted affidavits from neighbors who I have introduced myself to; declarations as to how I have introduced myself...? no answer.? ?
If they are (only now) requiring identification, then they need to change their "rules" to reflect that because it's not stated ANYWHERE on the siteIn fact, the site goes so far as to state "We recognize that some people are primarily known by something other than their given first name" does it then go on to say that you need to provide identification of a nickname?? No, it says:
It would be acceptable for? the catcher of the San Francisco Giants to use the name "Buster Posey" rather than Gerald Posey,? the name? on his birth certificate
It would be acceptable for the football player "*** ***" to use his initials as his first? name,? since that is how he introduces himself
And again "Using initials or an abbreviated version of your LAST name is always prohibited', which I DID NOT DO!!!!!!!?
BTW - this assertion of my not using? my "real name" was an anonymous report - what is my recourse to challenge reporting???? Who can I hold accountable for this defamation?? DO I now troll the site looking for neighbors I don't think are being totally forthcoming with all their personal information?? Can I then report neighbors who give only the street they live on and not the actual address since they are withholding personal information and obfuscating the transparency and honesty of the site???? ?
This is insane!!!? What exactly are they trying to prove???? ?
Sincerely,RI Eventoff

Nextdoor has several guideline about self promotion and over posting to prevent members from using Nextdoor as a business promotion tool instead of a neighbor and neighborhood resource toolThose Guidelines can be found at the below

?
I have reached out to Member again today on 6/19/to discuss agreeing to the Nextdoor guidelines and reinstating full access to her account

Member joined Nextdoor.com on 1/13/but we have no record of him contacting us about our $Amazon Gift Card promotion
To receive the promotional gift card, a member must invite a friend to Nextdoor, who in turn successfully starts a new Nextdoor neighborhood website (launches their
Nextdoor neighborhood with verified members)A member would also be eligible to receive a gift card if they created a new Nextdoor neighborhood after being invited by a friendMember did not create a new Nextdoor Neighborhood nor invite any other neighbors to our website, and therefore was not eligible for the gift card promotion
Full details of the promotion available at this link:
[redacted]
Taking no further action at this time because of member’s ineligibility for the promotion?

Nextdoor is a social network for neighbors to share locally relevant information and connect with their neighborsThis includes inviting their neighbors and people in their address book to joinThe letter this member describes is an option Nextdoor offers members to be able to send and print
flyers to give to their neighbors
Nextdoor does require that all members use their real names on our platform and the member that is discussed in this complaint joined Nextdoor using a fake nameThis was brought to our attention and the member was suspended on 11/24/for violating these Guidelines

Nextdoor has an area of our site called the National Leads Forum, where we make it possible for Leads from across the country to share informationIt's purpose is to be a place for Leads to help other Leads be more effective in leading their neighborhood
[redacted] ability to post publicly to the
National Leads Forum was removed after she (and a number of other Leads from her area in Texas) abusively attacked one another because of disagreements over how to enforce Nextdoor's GuidelinesNot only are these types of attacks not helpful in supporting fellow Lead; they are actually tremendously destructive because they model exactly the opposite behavior that we want from LeadsAll of the participants in this abusive discussion (on both sides) had their ability to post removed
Later, after [redacted] ability to post publicly was restored, rather than returning to use the Forum in the way it was intended, she instead used it to try and create more drama by complaining about having her ability to post being removed
At that point Dottie was banned from the ForumWe will not consider allowing her to have access to the Forum again until later this year

Nextdoor members can deactivate their account by choosing the “Deactivate your account” option in the settings portion of their profileFor members that wish to have their account, personal information, and content permanently removed from Nextdoor, we ask members to reach out to us because
account deletion cannot be undoneDue to the nature of our process, it may take up to days for Nextdoor to process an account deletion request
Member contacted us by email on May 11, with a request to have her account permanently deletedOn May 12, 2017, Nextdoor permanently deleted Member’s account, which included her personal information and any content created on the platformWe closed this case as resolved because we fulfilled Member’s request to permanently delete her account

? Complaint:[redacted]I am rejecting this response because:
I wrote apologizing AND agreeing to abide by the guidelines I had thought I was abiding by already? It was a NextDoor customer service person who suggested I post in the calendar but did not clearly state to make sure it is not on the main newsletter ? I am learning as it seems many folks on NextDoor are frequently confused ?
secondly I have a business page as well
Thirdly as I’ve stated many times I am not a Business but a neighborhood service ? However I will continue to try to use the guidelines appropriately however they are very obscure and vague, left to public disgression of people who like you or don’t like you for unknown reasons, which is to me a big flaw in the guidelines ? Zero corporate oversight ?
It has now been over a week since I wrote and no response directly from their offices
Lastly, the only reason it appears I have so many posts is because in the beginning my posts kept disappearing and I did not understand fully why so I was ignorantly reposting ?
Finaly, please unblock my account ?
Thanks,
Aaron
Sincerely,Aaron[redacted]
