Scam! Do Not Sign a Contract With Powerhome Solar!
I hate to write this review but our experience with Powerhome Solar has reached a point where I feel I have no other choice. We believe in the importance of solar power and want to support the companies working to create green energy. However, Powerhome Solar has shown itself to be an untrustworthy company. We currently have a $27,000 loan for solar panels installed on our roof that do not, and have NEVER worked. They have not even been turned on. And based on our conversations with the company we know that we are not alone.
After signing a contract with Powerhome Solar they installed our solar panels as if everything was fine and good. We had inspectors come out and were in the process of waiting for DTE (our local utility company) to approve the installation and turn our panels on, which is expected to take 7-10 days. 3 weeks after the inspection we had heard nothing from Powerhome Solar or DTE. We called Powerhome Solar multiple times to try to figure out what was wrong. They told us on multiple occasions that they had sent everything to DTE and were waiting to hear back. After over a month of waiting and being given the run around, we called Powerhome Solar and demanded an explanation. They told us that DTE was denying our installation because they installed a different inverter then the one in the plans. They also explained that the correct inverter was on a world wide back order. When we asked when the correct inverter would be installed they told us that they had no estimation of when it would be available and that once it was finally available we would be in a long line of customers facing the same error. While this news was extremely frustrating considering we had a $27,000 loan to repay for solar panels that were not working, we wanted to believe that the company had the best of intentions. It was extremely disconcerting that this had obviously been an issue the company was aware of: they were knowingly installing systems that would be denied by DTE, they had a long list of unsatisfied customers waiting for the correct inverter, they were continuing to instal the wrong system without telling customers their panels would be worthless and unusable, and they were not openly communicating this with customers but rather only divulging this information to customers after they demanded an explanation.
After all this, we still held out hope that they company had the right intentions. We were told by our case manager that we would be reimbursed for our loan payments each month until the solar panels were up and running. We received the first moths reimbursement check along with a promise from our case manager that we would receive monthly updates from her personally on the progress with getting the new inverter, along with reimbursement checks before our loan payment was due each month. The following month our payment due date came and went without a check or any contact from Powerhome Solar. We tried reaching out to our case manager via email and phone. Our calls and emails were never returned. After several attempts to call our case manager and leave messages, a man answered our call and told us that the person we were looking for was no longer at that number and that the number had been recycled to him a few weeks earlier. We then reached out to the company through their customer service number and went through several hours of dropped calls, unreturned messages etc. before finally being contacted by our new case manager. Our new case manager assured us a check was on its way and said he would send the letterhead over for the following months reimbursement as well. Neither of those things were true.
It is now January 8th. We have still not received our reimbursement check for last month, Decembers, loan payment and are past due for Januarys. We have reached out countless times via email and phone to our case manager. Each time we are assured the check is on the way and given a new excuse as to why it is delayed. We feel sad and betrayed by a company we believed in.
We have $27,000 in debt for solar panels that have never been turned on. Solar panels that were installed by a company knowing they would not be approved. This company is a SCAM. We believe in the necessity of alternative energies and the potential of Solar power, but please, do not go through this company. They are thieves.

Back up Battery drawing power from dte(grid). A tech came out and switched some wires around and now battery is charging and discharging every few seconds. Battery is still drawing large amount of power from grid. On top of monthly payments for a system that is not working now we are goimg to have a ridiculous dte bill.

I did have a tech come to the house and fix some wiring but unfortunately I'm not able to read my panels or consumption and the battery itself no longer says on. I would like for someone to come back out and look at the system again.
