Synchrony Bank (Formerly GE Capital Retail Bank) Reviews (993)

Synchrony bank does not process check by mail payments in a timely fashion, often taking 10 or more days. Results in harassing collections phone calls
Concerning a Lowes Credit Card through Synchrony Bank. Payed $100.00 by check in the mail for a much lesser minimum payment (aprox $25) for December 2014 sveral weeks before the due date. The check was not posted to the account and resulted in late fees, interest charges etc... Proactivley called them with check numbers, dates, and confirmation numbers from the bank to rectify the situation. They removed fees/charges and said that they had not yet received the check and sent over 2 weeks previous and that I may cancel it and reissue a new one. I sent a new one immediately for $200.00 to cover December 2014 and January 2015. The new due date for payment was set for January 13th 2015. The original $100.00 check that now had a stop payment on it was posted to my account the next day. Because the bank returned the check my account was turned over to their collections department and card suspended (could not be used in a lowes store) even though everything on the account was current. Their automated system will call your phone 2-3 times a day or more and will not leave a message. When I did finally answer they demanded payment on an account that was current.

--- Poor Customer Service
--- No Communication between their customer service dept and collections
--- payments can take 2 weeks or more to post resulting in late payments and interest charges
--- When payments are post they predate them to when they received the check (check issued on December 29th and received by Synchrony on the 31st as per the "post date" still received calls from collections for over a week before answering on January 5th, Check finally showed on the account either on January 8th or 9th predated for December 31st). This is a poor business and accounting practice as is evident by the multiple credits and adjustments to my account they are incapable of properly tracking payments etc...
--- Credit Card was suspended on an account that was current
--- Harassing phone calls demanding payment for an account that was current (Call received on January 5th; next payment due date was January 13th)
--- Mail received from collections dated after I had spoken with and explained the situation to both customer service and collections (spoke with them on both December 31st and January 5th and received letters dated January 6th)

refuses to take instruction regarding the closing of CD account, keeps rolling them over contrary to my explicit instructions, consquently can never stop being a customer except by paying a severe penalty.

No wonder GE wants to get rid of GE Consumer Credit. The next best thing for the time being is to change its name in a lame attempt to hoodwink consumers. I opened an account as a result of buying new appliances from Bill Smith Appliances in Naples, FL. Of course, they limited the amount of interest free credit they would offer but did so only AFTER the purchase was complete. Now I can't sign in to my own account. When I use the "Contact us for login help" icon, I enter an infinite loop with no way of contacting GE Credit. BTW, if I miss a payment -- by even a day -- the interest rate on this "no interest for 18 months" offer becomes 29.99%. I thought the robber barons were long gone...evidently not!

I recently opened a new account. I admit I was a bit leery about their Customer Service after I saw the reviews. But, my experience was very positive. I talked to two different Customer Service Representatives. My questions were handled in a very prompt, professional manner. I was dealing with a complicated situation and it was resolved with one telephone call. I was just on hold for a minute or two.

I opened an account at the request of a merchant in Hawaii with Synchrony Bank in January of 2015. This was in order to receive a 10 % discount on a purchase. I received a credit card in the mail, which I cancelled. I also asked at that time for a bill or an invoice from them.

As of todays date, February 18, 2015, I have received nothing in the mail. What has happened is a series of computer telephone calls requesting payment. Don't these people send out invoices or statements? Have been on hold with them now in an attempt to speak with a person for more than one hour. They do NOT seem to understand the concept of customer service.

I have had the Gap card since 2012 I always pay on time and always pay more than the minimum amount, I made a payment of $1400 and then I looked at my statement, and they lowered my credit limit to 400 after I made the big payment. I was going to use this for my vacation now I can't go because I put all my vacation money on this card. Horrible business practice. How can you lower a card that much when I pay on time every month.

When I opened my accounts online I tried to make my transfers but I couldn't the system told me I needed a code I try calling for three days they never answer until they do it was a Horrible customer service! I waited about 50 minutes to speak to a rep. I only wanted to talk to a rep to tell them to simply CLOSE MY ACCOUNTS! The rep told me she was busy assisting other customers on closing their accounts that it was the reason she took to long to help me hehe I finally close my accounts thank god!

Horrible service, Customer service is in India made a large payment to pay off my account and was quoted different days before it would be available been waiting to buy a new bed and still waiting after 2 weeks and keep getting people in India that do not offer any assistance and are not willing to help what the hell is going on with this bank they are a joke they will quickly take your money but treat you like dirt Beware! Not only would I Not reccomend I wouldn't wish this bank on my worst enemy forgot about it!

I find synchrony's rates usury. They tried to charge me charge me $180 extra on a $400 bill! for 2 late payments! I tried to speak to them and they reduced it $40. This is not acceptable business practice as far as I am concerned.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was forced to declare bankruptcy. Prior to this, I have had multiple credit cards, all paid on time and many with zero balances. I made absolutely sure to have my Synchrony Bank cards NOT listed on the bankruptcy. Much to my surprise, ALL of my accounts were closed with no notice or reason . A call to customer service and speaking with"[redacted]" who stated it was the policy of the bank to close all accounts listed in a bankruptcy. I explained that these cards had had zero balances for months prior to my filing and that my attorney made sure not to list them. However, after 2 YEARS, I can apply for another Old Navy, Amazon and JC Penney card. Yea, I don't think so.

I have a Dick's sporting goods master card and have been paying on line for 2 years. Synchrony bank is the issuer. After they issued a new "chipped" card I somehow lost the ability to log in and pay on line.First they tried to tell me I was not registered with the site, then they tried to tell me the site did not recognize the exp.date of the card, information that is not requested at log in. Then they claimed that a new user ID and pass word would be sent and this would fix this.It did not. I still have to call and pay by phone (a cost option if they don't waive it) . These people are clowns.Don't waste your time with them. Don't give this company any of your hard earned money there better options.

Do not use Synchrony Bank!
We had opened it when we purchased furniture from Ashley Furniture, even though we had the money, we figured take advantage of the 0% interest and just make monthly payments.....would have been cheaper and less of a headache to have just paid it in full!!
I paid my monthly payments on time and was charged late fees anyway. They stated that my payments were not being received on time, they were scheduled automatic payments done at the same time each month. Synchrony would take too long to process the payments and turn around and say I was late! I had my bank fax them statements showing that Synchrony had the money in their possession on time. Synchrony stated the late fees would be waived, and low and behold the next month the late fee were still there along with another one! When I called to explain the situation, I hit a dead end, no matter who I spoke with they would not remove them and I tried numerous times!!! Then the phones started! I would receive up to a dozen calls a day letting me know I had to make a payment!
I even had a difficult time paying the balance off, they wanted to charge me a fee for that!!
Do not open an account with Synchrony Bank!!!!

DEALING WITH SYNCHRONY FINANCIAL HAS BEEN THE WORST LOAN EXPERIENCE/NIGHTMARE OF MY ENTIRE LIFE. I WOULD NEVER ADVISE ANYONE TO TURN TO SYNCHRONY FOR ANYTHING EVER! IF I EVER HEAR ONE OF MY FRIENDS OR FAMILY MEMBERS DISCUSSING THE POSSIBILITY OF TURNING TO SYNCHRONY BANK FOR A LOAN I WILL SHOUT IT FROM
THE ROOF TOPS THAT YOU ARE HORRIBLE GREEDY BLOOD SUCKERS PREYING ON PEOPLE IN NEED AND THAT YOU HAVEN'T GOT THE TIME OF DAY TO LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS OR DISCUSS ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS THAT EVER ARISE. ALL YOU CARE OBOUT IS ROBBING PEOPLE BLIND AND NEVER LOOKING BACK. MY BLOOD PRESSURE RISES AT THE SOUND OF YOUR NAME. I PAID MY LOAN BACK IN FULL AND YOU CAN BET YOU WILL NEVER HEAR FROM ME AGAIN EVEN IF I HAVE TO GO HUNGRY A NAKED!!

This company is quite awful. The interest alone is outrageous. I made the best efforts to pay this card off as soon as possible. This wasn't some luxury item I purchased, this was dental work that had to be done. After making my payments, random amounts towards the end to finish up with interest charges, they still found a way to charge me more. I used the online and auto pay, yet I still was charged more. Please please do not use this company. If your dental office offers a care credit, run the other way. I would rather donate a kidney than use this company.

Okay I am an amazon fiend. I was excited to get an amazon card which I've had not even a month yet. Now I'll take the some of the blame but my card was completely closed out recently without a notice. My first bill isn't due until June 10th. Back in April I made an early payment to get a head start on paying my balance. Now I'm active duty military and I have this thing I do before I deploy to have my money going to a separate acct, so when I do use my card overseas and my card gets corrupted or stolen it won't affect all of my hard earned money, well I forgot to switch my monet back over after deployment. When I made the early payment I used the empty acct which is not empty but the funds are in a separate part of the acct. Confusing I know but it's how I cut down on chances of losing all my money while deployed. Well synchrony was unforgiving. Even though I had no past due balance, no maxed out balance and ready to pay the card off, they didn't want to hear it. They said there was no way in hell it will be turned on. The supervisor was a jerk and unprofessional. So needless to say my amazon card excitement is gone.

As others have said, be very vigilant about how your money is allotted. We have a Care Credit account and since Synchrony took over, I have called to make sure I was paying promotional balances off properly. Did not happen. Given wrong dollar amounts and then they don't tell you that you have't paid enough. At 27% interest. predatory lending and bait and switch. I can't pay this last card off fast enough to be done with them.
The sad part is that we had ZERO say in this because GE/Capital sold it to them.
They are rude and condescending on the phone and not helpful in the least
HORRID HORRID company

Their customer service is awful! They have an automated system first which takes at least 5 minutes to get through, then you have to not answer any questions or keep mashing zero just to speak to an actual person. The reason I called is because I couldn't sign into my account, so I used the forgot password option on the website. I received an error saying my account was not available for online access. When I finally was able to talk to someone they said I had to wait two hours then call back again. So I did.

My second call was just as unsuccessful as the first. They cannot send you a password reset email as "their system does not have that function or capability." Their recommendation again was to try back in two hours.

To not have the ability to reset a users password from the administrative side is totally unacceptable in 2015!

If you are offered a line of credit from a retailer using a Synchrony Bank (GE Capital) credit card, think long and hard as they are the worst credit card company I have ever dealt with! Their customer service is abysmal, their online portal is horrendous as I was also unsuccessful when I first set my account to make automatic payments. I will not be doing business with them again nor will I ever recommend a friend to their credit cards.

I have terrible credit and had a medical emergency. I got approved for $500 on this card. They have me 1 year with no interest.

The promotion ended on 2/18. I fully intended on paying the balance then on 2/19 I realized I spaced out the payment.

When I called the CC they waived the interest!

Super great company!

These guys are is. I received a letter that the name was changing. And the first thing they did was run a credit check on me and lower my spending limit. A prime example example of corporate America. I will be paying them off this month and closing the account.

I am not going to spend any more time than is necessary on Synchrony Bank and their affiliates, so I won't be typing a lengthy review. All I have to say is this is the most heinously run credit card company I've ever dealt with. Way ahead in my payments and I start getting charged all kinds of fees after ONE late payment of a couple of days. I am paying this off immediately and I will NEV ER do business with these schmucks again. Maybe Synchrony should get into another business, because from what I can see they are clearly not competent in the credit card business.
