This company charges $to walk through a house to give an estimate on replacing smoke detectors They do not examine the detectors or the system at all A quote could easily be done over the phone I was warned that there would be a service fee, but I was not aware that no service would be provided Paying someone to walk through my house to receive a high quote is a rip off

Christian Brothers is expensive! Last January I paid dearly for a leaky outdoor hose bib and the installation of a bathtub faucetIt might be acceptable if the hose bib did not have to be repaired five months later for the same reasonThe bathroom faucet (I paid $for it at Lowe's) installed by Christian Brothers was scratched on both top and bottom

This is an accounting of the facts surrounding a complaint I made to Christian Brothers regarding what I felt was an excessive bill I spoke to a manager on the phone, and ultimately she agreed to refund 50% of the charge under the condition that I submit a review to Revdex.com stating the matter was resolved to my satisfaction
There are many contractors out there: one is always well-advised to “ask around”, and to consult Yelp and the Revdex.com (Revdex.com) before making a choice
The problem began when the tenant renting this home changed out the light bulbs in the ceiling fan, after which the fan would no longer operate The tenant called us, but we were out of town on family business; normally we handle problems in our rental homes She volunteered that she had a neighbor who was an electrician and maybe she could call him, so we said “OK, fine” But the neighbor was unavailable, so, unbeknownst to us, she picked Christian Brothers Electric out of the phone book, thinking that with a name like “Christian Brothers”, they must be honest (a common thing to do, apparently, based on a thorough reading of Yelp and Revdex.com)
The technician arrived and phoned my wife for approval to make repairs; while she was involved with a family urgency and cannot recall his exact words, it was presented as a situation requiring urgent attention, and so she gave permission for him to proceed, still thinking that this was the neighbor
The technician wrote on the contract:
“I arrived to look at MiscElectrical
I discovered that the wiring to the fan was incorrect and was arcing due to bad connections in the switch box
I gave a further diagnostic charge of $to diagnose a further issue
I corrected the wiring and the fan came on and worked properly“
Upon our return, we went over to inspect the work We found that the fan control switch had failed, and that the Christian Brothers electrician had merely bypassed it by connecting the wires with a wire nut He also apparently had tightened a wire nut in an adjacent switch box He did not replace the fan control, but left it to be controlled by the pull-chains on the fan itself
For this, he charged $389, less a $“coupon”, so we paid $
It took less than minutes for us to inspect his work and to replace the fan control switch
Subsequently, I phoned Christian Brothers and told the receptionist that I wanted to dispute a bill She informed me that the manager that handled such things was not there that day but would call me back the next day, which she did She informed me that “the technicians set the price”, and that this technician had “had no complaints before”, that they “charge by the job”, “not time”, using a “book” of some sort
I explained that we have managed property for years and manage almost doors, and that I found this price way out of line with the norm, and that I had read the reviews of Christian Brothers on Yelp and the Revdex.com Finally she asked me what I wanted, and we agreed on the 50% refund as stated above While I wish that I had never had to complain, it was nice to have my complaint resolved quickly, without having to pursue it further

All of the staff that works for Christian brothers are professional, precise in their work, highly ethical and they treat their customers very well

We responded to an ad to have our air conditioners serviced On May a tech came out and said one of the ACs needed Freon and the tech tried to sell my wife an air conditioner instead He told her that if the AC goes out we just wasted $on Freon She was worried and called me We said no to a new AC That night we noticed the AC was not working after spending $on Freon The AC motor was not going on On May we called the company and told them the AC was not working at all The same tech came out on the 13th and discovered the circuit breaker was tripped but tried to sell me a new AC this time I told him we could not afford a new AC as I was about to have surgery to remove cancer and it was going to cost $5, He advised us to replace the circuit breaker from a amp to a amp We asked him how much it would cost and he said $ He knew we didn't know anything about this so I said okay thinking that my wife would have air while I was in the hospital
