Fraudulent charges for services I never received.
Back in May/June of this year, 2019, a gentleman stopped me in the *** off of *** in *** and offered me a trial for both the herald and the Charlotte observer. I agreed because I was considering using the coupons from the paper and the gentleman offered me a $20 gift card to ***. From what I was told I would receive the Sunday paper and then another paper mid week. About 2 weeks into the month I called both the observer and herald to let them know I hadn't received any paper. They apologized and said they would like to give me another month free. I said okay but then another 2 weeks went by and I still had not received a paper. At this point I called both and said told them this and both companies apologized and tried to offer me another month. I'm sorry but no, it has been a month and I hadn't received anything so another month would have went buy and nothing would have changed. I told them to cancel the trial I didn't want it. After a couple more weeks I received a bill from The Observer for over $140. I called and they promised me it would be removed. A couple weeks later same thing. After another month or so I received a letter from a collection agency. I called AGAIN and have the conversation on recording that it had been escalated to be removed. I sent a letter to the collection agency and haven't heard back. Now with the herald I haven't ever received a bill but they call literally every other day to ask me if I want to restart my subscription and I tell them no and explain why. Not once did they tell me I had a bill with them or did I receive one in the mail. I just received a letter from collections from them as well. They newspaper company's are shady and at this point the only action I feel I have is to get an attorney. Do not trust the free trials.

Desired Outcome

I need both Charlotte Observer and The Herald to remove any charges that are associated with my name because they are fraudulent and I never agreed on services. They need to send a letter to collections so this does not affect my credit. I also need to be removed from their call list.

I did the introductory subscription for 3 months and told them to cancel it. Now they had started calling me and I told them that I no longer wanted. I was asked how was I going to pay the bill of $48 and told them they did not have my permission to charge my card any longer. Today I received a letter from a collections agency and I told them the whole story, now I have to write a letter explaining the situation to get this off my credit.

Since I have moved to my new home I only received two papers. I have called in 5 times. They said they would refund/fix. I canceled still got charged.
Since moving to my new home I have not received but two papers from August of 2018. I called in 5 times to get the situation resolved. They continue to charge me and not deliver a single paper. On the last call they offered to fix and refund, but I opted to just cancel. They have charged me another $30 To my account. I would just like to get the money refunded and the service cancelled at this point.

Desired Outcome

Refund and cancellation of service.

The Charlotte Observer Response • Dec 05, 2019

We apologize for your inconvenience. We have stopped the account and a full refund will be issued. We have contacted the distribution company and advised them of the unacceptable service.

Newspaper was not delivered five days during Thanksgiving week and phone calls with three different "Supervisors" in Customer Service failed
Carrier has been erratic/late for years and calls to Customer Service "Supervisors" have not improved the situation. They always " apologize" for the" inconvenience" but the delivery issues never improve. And when they say someone from the Distribution Team will call, the call never comes. They do not provide any realistic avenues for relief.

Desired Outcome

Extension of subscription...and a reliable carrier who can be relied upon and does not resort to profanity when asked about poor delivery service.

The Charlotte Observer Response • Dec 09, 2019

30 days credit will be applied to the account. The distribution company has been contacted to resolve the delivery issues at this address. There was a substitute on the route during the week of Thanksgiving. This substitute will not be used again. We apologize for your inconvenience and will work with the distributor to get delivery trouble corrected.

I have not received my Sunday paper for the past four weeks. I have notified the Observer each week and they have not resolved the problem.
I have not received my Sunday paper for the past four weeks,11/10, 11/17, 11/24, and 12/1. I have complained to the Observer each week by phone and by email, to no avail, even though they assured me each time that they would correct the problem immediately. Obviously, the Observer has no control, or even a connection with their delivery company.

Desired Outcome

Deliver my Sunday paper, or refund my subscription.

The Charlotte Observer Response • Dec 02, 2019

We have contacted the distribution company to correct the service at this address. We have applied credit for the missed copies. We will have delivery verified on Sunday

My account was locked after electronic bill was added to my account without notice. Multiple issues with delivery.
I stopped receiving a news paper after my carrier quit and I was not notified. After multiple complaints I received a refund and canceled my service. I then renewed my service after customer service contacted me. The paper was again stopped after 2 weeks for an unpaid balance for my previous subscription that was added to my electronic account for $14.82. I never received a bill for this only found out about it after logging on to complain about not receiving a paper. I also received a bill for $9.99 due on the 17th of November but it wasn't issued until the 20th of November. I just payed the $14.82 and canceled everything. I was told there is not further balance. This is some shady billing practices and should stop immediately. This will effect peoples credit and is unscrupulous practices.

Desired Outcome

I wish to seek a full refund and an immediate stop to these billing practices and if they continue that there business license be revoked.

The Charlotte Observer Response • Dec 23, 2019

Thank you for making us aware and we apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.

I have requested for a reimbursement in the amount of $14.82 is expedited by our Finance department. Please allow 5-7 business days for this credit to be issued back to your account.

Advertising thrown in my yard for years now.
I have called Charlotte ObserverTEN TIMES to stop. I am disabled vet and I cant pickup their Advertising TRASH as I have a bad back. Today I slipped and fell in the driveway when I went to pick the paper up and will have to go and see the Doctor.

Desired Outcome

I want them stop littering my yard. I want Charlotte Observer to start paying fines as I would if I went and threw trash in their business yard.

The Charlotte Observer Response • Dec 02, 2019

We will get the distribution company to stop delivery at this address.

Customer Response • Jan 15, 2020

Charlotte Observer throws unwanted advertisements/trash in my yard after being told multiple times not to.
I have contacted Charlotte Observer over 50 times in the last 3 years and asked that they stop throwing their advertisements in my yard. I am a disable veteran with an injured back and I never in my life signed up for Charlotte Observer. As far as I am concerned Charlotte Observer is littering my yard and should be fined.
I should be compensated for having to pick up trash from yard every week and I should be compensated for aggregation to my back injury. In addition to compensation Charlotte Observer should come to my house and pick up the trash they continue to leave. I have it all saved in a city recycle bin.

The Charlotte Observer Response • Jan 15, 2020

The stop request has been entered in our database and the distribution company has been notified to stop the delivery at this address

The Charlotte Observer Response • Jan 16, 2020

Newspaper not delivered daily and many times torn/ripped.
We ended our subscription last year (December 2018) due to delivery issues-no newspaper or late newspaper. In June 2019, given opportunity to return at a special price. This has been no special deal, still have the same carrier who does not deliver the newspaper many times during the month or delivers a destroyed paper or a paper missing flyers or throws the paper in the neighbor's yard. We have complained numerous times, but nothing is ever done. Another neighbor is having the same problem.

Desired Outcome

I want the subscription to end ASAP and a complete refund given and no renewal done by The Charlotte Observer, since the newspaper has not corrected the delivery problem in over one year. The constant hassle of searching for the newspaper every day and never knowing if and when the newspaper will be delivered is not worth reading The Charlotte Observer.

The Charlotte Observer Response • Dec 04, 2019

We have applied 30 days to the account for the missed copies. There was a substitute on the route from 11/25/19 through 12/3/19. The regular carrier is back on the route and service will be corrected. The substitute will not be used again. We will correct the delivery at this address.

I have not received my paper in 3 days and I have called repeatedly and it has been on going problem for months.
For months now I don't receive my paper daily, as the delivery is very inconsistent. I typical use their online application to report the problem and most of the time it gets delivered, however not always. Recently when I called them I learned that I have not been given credit for all the days I did not receive a paper. They told me I should have called and not use their online process. Recently things got worse. I have not received my paper in 3 days. Not only have I used their online process, but I have called. Yesterday they promised me I would receive the last 2 days of paper to be delivered today. Nothing. I'm still waiting and I'm tired of wasting my time calling and being promised things I don't get. I have always paid my bills on time, and it's fraud that I am getting charged for something I have not been delivered.

Desired Outcome

Please delivery my paper EVERY day. And if for some reason it is not delivered, then CREDIT my account.

Received notice from *** stating that my name was submitted due to lack of payment of 36 dollars billed for a paper I did not request.
Received a call from an employee at the Charlotte Observer who stated they would like to send a newspaper. I asked them not to as I have two small children with no interest or time in reading the paper. The employee took it upon himself to send the paper anyway after I told him not too. I then find out my name was submitted to a credit agency, *** for the lack of payment, 36 dollars for a paper I had told the agency not to send. I contacted the agency, informing them of the scam and was told to submit payment. This is an issue as their employees are stealing from people through telephone contact and then submitting their info to credit agencies. I would like this issue resolved from my credit report.

Desired Outcome

I would like the 36 dollar charge resolved from my credit report. I would also like to request that the agency look into employees scamming through sales and be reprimanded to ensure no one else has this issue.

Delivery issues missing papers for a year now & 3 TV guide issues paid in full through 1/19/2020 for paper & TV guide missed issues paid trial sub.
Have had BAD problems with paper being delivered for almost a year now after problems in 2018 were finally resolved for a few months. We miss 3-4 or more papers a month & some are delivered the next day even. Often after 10 Am getting here.Got a trial sub. for TV magazine & missed 3 weeks of that. Their company told us they would do nothing about it due to they fulfilled their contract by giving them to the Observer & it was the paper's fault they did not deliver them to us. We have now missed 4 papers & not received one since Friday 11/22/19. Usually it is only 1 paper a week. Calling or emailing gets the same standard answer of we will address the issue with your carrier & the distribution mgr. & see that you get the good service you deserve. What a laugh !!!! We are paid up through Jan. 19, 2020 & have stated we will NOT renew after being good faithful usually paid bill by the year until these delivery issues got so badcustomers for almost 40 YEARS at this same location. We just want our paper that we have paid to get delivered each day. We keep being told to use the online issue BUT we have WIndstream internet & it is spotty at best lots of days & we can't pull up the paper. Since the Monroe EJ has gone to 3x a week & is mailed we have no way of getting the news except through the Charlotte Observer. Also we miss coupons in the Sunday paper most of the time which I KNOW because others do get them. Can you please help us to get our paper? Not sure if this matters BUT until last year we had very few if any problems with the paper. Thank you.

Desired Outcome

We want out paper delivered in a timely manner like before 8 AM & EVERY DAY not just once in a while & also the TV papers we were supposed to get & the coupons. Being on a fixed income the coupons do help to bring down the high cost of the paper. ll we ask is to get the complete paper on the day it is published & not later.IF the carrier is NOT going to deliver it then we expect the circulation dept. to send someone else if it is the district mgr. distribution mgr. or whoever to bring it.
