The Student Loan Project Reviews (224)

The name they looked me up under is incorrect, even though you provided my correct name. They have contacted me again, so I am clearly in their data base. They have my SS#. Achieved under very shady circumstances. The language is misleading. Here they say "Look forward to reviewing the government forgiveness options available to you", it's coming from an Enrollment Advisor, and the email is from @studentloanproject.usDespite repeated and clear messages to not contact me, and filing a grievance against them with the Revdex.com, and asking for them to use language that does not lead people to believe they are dealing with government programs directly, this is the follow up email I get:[redacted][email protected] 10:05 AM (4 hours ago)to meHello [redacted],My name is [redacted].  I am a Enrollment Advisor at The Student Loan Project.  We received your inquiry through our website not too long ago but we haven't been able to contact you. Please give us a call at (855) [redacted].  The sooner you call the sooner we can get you relief from your student debt burden!Look forward to reviewing the government forgiveness options available to you.Best regards,[redacted]Enrollment AdvisorThe Student Loan Project(855) [redacted][email protected]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my...

complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Student Loan Project did refund only 60% which ended up being $99 dollars a few days ago. The reasons that I am still not satisfied are listed below:1) This business only reached out to me only after I made this complaint with the Revdex.com of San Diego. Had I not made a complaint, they would of continued to ignore my requests for a full refund when I became aware that they had not done what they promised me. 2) [redacted] spoke with me on the phone and listened to why I had made the complaint to the Revdex.com. She then insisted that it was my fault that I did not respond to an email that I never received.  When I told her I did not receive the email and that it was not in my spam, nor did anyone from her company try to contact me trying to follow up or obtain this information requested in this mystery email, she still insisted that I had to have received it and that her employees had done nothing wrong. 3) She then said she would give me a refund.  I said great. She asked if I would go to your website Revdex.com and issue a favorable resolution to my complaint. I told her no that since [redacted] had told me one thing and then did another, and since she being the manager had just called me a liar that I did not trust her to keep her word and issue me the refund. I told her when I received the refund I would issue a favorable resolution to the complaint.  4) Then their processing center [redacted] contacts me stating that I am only getting a 60% refund back because I did not cancel within 5 days of enrolling. (glad I didn't trust [redacted]'s word above when she said I was getting a full refund) Which this policy is ridiculous since it takes 30-60 days (what they told me originally but that AES would have paperwork within days to a week to start the process--since I was worried about it not reaching by the 15th of September as stated in the complaint) and 60-90 days to show up on my credit report.  How could I possibly have become dissatisfied within 5 days when they told me it would take a week or more for something to happen.5) [redacted] then responds back to my complaint of not getting the full refund since I felt like I deserved the full refund because they did not honor their word. She states that Student Loan Project (who made me the promises and did not honor them) is an affiliate of Student Loan Assistance Center  and it is their policy that I had only five days to respond.  I gave up trying to reason with this manager [redacted], because to me I should not have to adhere to their affiliate's refund policy because I did not do business with the affiliate so therefore the affiliate's refund policy should not even be a factor.6) She also suggested that I still give them a favorable review because a non-favorable review would hurt them. She even suggested that I leave a favorable one with them and a comment on SLAC profile.

I asked for a 100% refund and they only offered me a 40% refund.  I asked for a copy of my contract and proof of the 60% work that they did and have not received anything from them.  My current loan provider (Great Lakes) told me when they called to discuss my loan payments that nothing has been started for any consolidation or different type of loan repayments, nothing was in process.I am asking for the full amount of $812.00.  Thus far they have refunded me $324.80; therefore, I am awaiting the remaining amount of $487.20.  I look forward to a quick and peaceful resolution and thank you for your assistance in this.

We contacted SLAC to assist in my student loan debt. We were told that we had to pay an initial $540 registration fee to get the ball rolling, and that after that our payments to SLAC would be $39 per month for at least the first year, and then annually our...

income would be reviewed and could go up slightly depending on if our income changed. That being said, we did pay the initial $540 and after doing so, started paying this company $39 per month. We did this for four months when I received a call from my (supposedly former) student loan company who told me that I was now in default on my student loan for four months now and it had already been sent to the credit reporting agency and I needed to pay it asap. I told them we had acquired another company to pay this loan off and we were paying them, but she said they had nothing on file stating that there was anything in the process like that. I then called SLAC and after getting the run around for several days was finally informed that there “was a paperwork mix up and the person handling your account never actually sent the paperwork in to your other student loan agency”. After multiple calls and heated emails they agreed to pay us back the $540 fees that we paid, along with the $39 we paid them for four months, for a total of $662.00. We have not received the full amount at this time. We are still owed $150.00 of this money, and we also requested a letter on their company letterhead stating that this was their fault – that while I was paying them to have taken care of my student loan, they did not do so, which resulted in it being sent to the credit agency and hurting my credit. I was told about 6 weeks ago I would have all $662 in my bank account by the end of the week that week, and I would also have a copy both mailed and emailed to me about this being their fault so I can fix my credit. This never happened. We are still owed $150 and now no one will return my repeated calls or emails about the money or the le We contacted SLAC to assist in my student loan debt. The Student Loan Project took a lot of stress off my shoulders by offering me a better way to handle my loan. If you are interested in taking care of your student loans, please contact [redacted] at the Student Loan Project. Thank you!

As many students experiencing loan debt I wanted to save money and that's not what happened when going through this unprofessional company. Instead, I paid them around $400 upfront and they put my loan on forbearance for three months while it accrued interest and they were charging me an extra $39 for servicing my account.
The thing the irritated me is that the employee who I gave my information to purposely failed to put my correct yearly income on file and gave me a bogus low monthly payment (which I thought was incredible). Turns out after trying to see what the status of my loan was they asked me again to show proof of income, something that I submitted to them several months prior. After I told them my income they stated that I told them a lower number when I began the process (mind you I emailed my pay stubs and tax information as proof prior). Several weeks pass and by this time I am receiving emails from my previous loan company telling me I am past due on my payment. I naturally freaked out and reached out to this company that is supposed to have taken care of all this crap (they had 3 months to figure this out and I was paying them $39 mos servicing fee for their service). I finally spoke to an agent there and she told me what my monthly payment was which was more than I was initially paying and with a little higher interest. I was furious! I said to the agent: so what you're telling me is that I paid your company a $400 processing plus $39 dollars a month to mess all my paperwork up and leave me in limbo? And you're telling me that you guys are charging me $39 a month to handle my account by going to my pre existing loan company's website and making payments on my behalf, something I was already freaking doing on my own before I reached out to you scam artists? She simply said, "yeah." Wow! I told these guys to cancel EVERYTHING and to not handle my account. She said all is cancelled immediately and they will not be providing their service... and I still have not received any confirmation letter stating this. I will be contacting my bank to notify them to not let these clowns withdraw money from my account moving forward. I contacted my previous loan company and told them that I want to stick with them and continue with the plan I had with them (which was a lower interest rate too).
I am sorry but this company is incompetent and will have a representative tell you whatever they need to in order to swindle you. I am glad I stopped after 3 months even though I lost out on money. Live and learn. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Student loan companies are money making machines and should be charging extremely low interest on educational loans.
I am sure there will be a representative from this company company commenting on my review and telling you guys that their program may not be for everyone. Thanks for keeping that information from me after you lame folks took my money. You guys are a bunch of jokes and should be ashamed. I am not a happy camper.

I recommend The Student Loan Project 100%! [redacted] called me and walked me thru the entire with respect and patience that I was on good hands. All of questions and concerns were answered, there was always someone there to walk thru all of the processes. I cant thank everyone enough! Student loans are not explained properly in my opinion and granted I should have paid more attention but there isnt alot of education out there and I found that I was too easy to sign up for school but a lack of communication when it came to loan information and what happens later.
Thank You The Student Loan Project folks, you are amazing!

My experience was great. Just like [redacted] said it would be. He was great with me and the referral I sent to him. The experience so far is good and I am trying to refer more people to the program.

Dear [redacted],
As you know, one of our Supervisors has reached out to you to discuss and explain this matter. Please let us know if if this issue is now resolved and if you are willing to withdraw the complaint.

Not very happy! Initially, they were very nice to reel you in. Once the process started, it was extremely hard to get a hold of anyone. I was supposedly assigned to an adviser. I left her three messages and no call back. I never received an email or call that my loan was complete. Thankfully, I looked on line to see if I owe anything (its due in 5 days), and my payment is triple the amount that I was quoted. With all their stupid fees of $40.00, I would be paying close to the amount I was paying with my previous federal lender. I think this was the worst experience I have ever had with any company. I would not recommend this business to my worst enemy.

The client was never charged and fees therefore this complaint is considered invalid.

I am a teacher in California and I think this program really helps those who want to be free from student loan debt. The process was very easy and quick. Representatives were very helpful.
