There are some good sitters on the siteUnfortunately, if you end up with a bad one, you are out of luck as this company assumes no responsibility and offer no assistance at allThey claim they are merely a referral company like *** for drivers but unlike ***, they cannot offer refund, assistance or compensation of any sortThey claim they have insurance protection, but just like any insurance companies, they are a pain in the back to deal with and deny all claimsIt is really a scam on paper to say that the bookings there are protectedIt really is not protected in any wayI will not trust sitters on their website and instead will use local pet hotels or franchise petsitting services at *** *** *** or *** instead: at least they are responsible for the service they provide!

My dog was watched by a rover sitter July 28-32, He wasn’t fed his specified special diet and came back with hot spots on his legs and paws caused by not eating his special foodBecause of this I have had to pay $in vet bills plus my dog’s pain for his treatmentHe is on steroids to treat the spots and meds for his stomach to prevent ulcers from not having his diet followed against my wishesI contacted rover.com and they say I have to be out over $in vet bills before they will reimburse but if their sitter had followed my directions for my pet I wouldn’t have had to take him to the vet and incur any bills at allI want a refund of the $i paid for the sitting fee plus my vet bills back

First time using Rover and it will be the last Thankfully I have security cameras to know that the girl named Fiona never came to my house to take my dogs out Fiona stated that she did come to the house, which was a lie I was in another state frantically trying to get someone there for my two dogs It ended up being hours that my dogs were alone I called Rover , they stated that Fiona will not be fired and that they will help coach her to do a better job I still have not received a refund from them None of this is acceptableOn top of everything else you cannot leave a bad review This is misrepresentation of the company They should be held accountableI feel terrible for those who do not have security cameras since Rover .com does not care who they hire and do not let others leave a true account for a review Again this company is very misleading I wish I had known about this company before I used them Again I used them due to "only good " reviews

I have repeatedly asked Rover.com to take me off of their mailing list for all emails, even those pertaining to my accountHowever, the messages persistI hope this review, and the negativity it garners, will force them to follow through with my repeated requests

1) We contracted a Rover sitter to conduct daily checkins for our new puppy—to let her out to pee during the middle of the workday—before she was fully vaccinated and we could start her with daily group dog walks
2) Brianna was nice and seemed great during her interview so we began service with her
3) Everything seemed fine at first until we started noticing clues that she wasn’t actually coming some days of the week as agree and as paidWe thought surely not, who would leave a puppy cooped up and unable to be let out all day?
4) After enough peculiar things we set a simple trap and came home to find she had not come that day like she said she had, and was taking our money anywayWe immediately terminated service with her
5) We contacted Rover to eject her from the Rover system to prevent her bad caregiving to other customers, and asked for a full refund
6) Within hours our puppy had symptoms of a urinary tract infection which was later confirmed and treated by our vet after multiple visits (and bills)
7) We were passed between multiple Rover “customer service” reps and asked us to try to settle the “issue” with Brianna directly
8) We said we would not be doing that, and that Rover should take action along with the photographic proof and statement we’d taken
9) We asked to be compensated for the times we could only presume our puppy was locked up all day and for our $vet billRover covered us for some of the time our caregiver had lied to us but since we didn’t get back to them in time with a written doctor’s note from our vet, they claim their insurance company would not cover our claim
10) Our Rover takeaways include one lying contractor, one mistreated and slightly abused puppy, one horrible customer service experience after another and one large vet bill that we were stuck payingWhile we are certain this will not be the experience for everyone, the fact that this company so mismanaged our claim and was unwilling to do the right thing in the end to make it right—considering they represented this horrible caregiver—leads us to conclude this is not a company responsible enough to watch out for the well-being and safety of our pets

I contacted rover.com and made arrangements to have a nearby couple watch our dog on an agreed upon dateAs the date grew near the couple contacted us to let us know that they would be evacuating ahead of a hurricane that was projected to come through the areaA new date was agreed upon by ourselves and the sitterWhile at the sitters home on the new agreed upon date our dogs front right canine tooth was avulsed from the socket along with soft tissue, resulting in the loss of the tooth and $in emergency and corrective medical costsWe immediately contacted rover.com to let them know about the incident and to ask them to submit a claim to their insurerWe were abruptly met with resistance and rationals as to why they were not responsibleThe reason given for the refusal to submit the claim was that the original date had been changedIn their own contract it states that to be covered" ithe injury must have occurred during the scheduled start and end dates of a booking ac

This company assumes no liability for anything that happens to your precious pet All responsibility falls to the babysitter/owner to resolveI have used the service a few times this past two months and it really depends on who you getWe have had great sitters as well as some less than spectacular sittersHowever this past incident really made me question pet safety when I entrust my dog to one of their listed star sittersThis past Wednesday I boarded my dog because I am leaving on a business trip on Thursday early morningI dropped my dog off with the sitter this past Wednesday morningI explicitly told the sitter that she needs to be careful because my dog will try to eat anything that enters his mouthAround noon time I received a distressing text that she found that my dog got a hold of some chocolateIt was a little cryptic but the sitter stated that she did not believe that my dog ate any when she came home at 10:in the morningShe tried to put us at ease by stating that in her experience dogs need to eat alot of chocolate to become sick and that she will continue to monitor him Already uneasy with the sitter I continued to trust her judgement as this was my first dog and I felt like she had more experience than meThen around PM that same day, I received a call from her saying that my dog had eaten a cat toy about the size of ring fingers approximately minutes priorI reacted first by calling my vet which was about to close to see what we can doShe had referred us to see the 24hour emergency hospital to see if they can induce vomitingAt this point I had lost all confidence in this sitter so I went to pick him up as fast as I can and rushed him to the hospitalDuring the wait I contacted rover to cancel the stay with the current sitter help find a new sitterThe rover representative was very consoling, apologetic, and helpfulHe stated that the company will even take care of the vet bill up to $I also have pet insurance with a $deductible so this was not an issue for meHe also took care of me in setting up a new stay with actually an employee of rover and said there will be no difference in stay costsAt this point I thought this company really cared about my pet and wanted to make things rightSo about hours after we checked into the hospital, they were able to retrieve the cat toyI was so happy that it came out because that means that we avoided a possible bowel obstruction and surgery to remove itLater that evening I dropped him off at the new sitterThis sitter appears to be vastly better in keeping me informedShe also said that later that evening my dog had vomited up another cat toyWhich is shocking because the first sitter said that he only ate one toyThis only reinforced my though that this sitter was negligent in her care of my precious puppy After I came back from my business trip I filled out the incident report to claim reimbursementAfter the review, Rover denied reimbursement for medical expensesThey stated that reimbursement only occurs after $in medical expenses while our expenses was roughly $The did credit me $for a next stayHowever I feel that I was still suck with the bill and that sitter and Rover should be responsible forFor me I entrusted my precious pet to them to responsibly care for himUnder their care all things pertaining to my pet's well being should be taken care ofThat breach in trust by the sitter and the company's lack in simply doing whats right makes me feel let down by the companyWhat happens if something more serious happens because of lack attentiveness and delay in careAnother representative that talked to us touted their pet connect program where people can call in to be connected to a sitter and the agent can look at the sitter's background and incident reports while as the with the app there is no way we can look at this informationWhat good is a service that does not show this critical information about sitters before we book with themUntil the platform is more transparent and they take more responsibility of what happens to pets under their care, I do not think I can ever recommend them Its like going to the hospital to get a knee replacementIf they replace the wrong knee, its not just the surgical team that is responsible, its the entire hospital

The dog sitter from Simi Valley I hired to watch my dogs from Feb16-Feb 18, was grossly negligent and caused the death of my poor beautiful little SheltieShe left my dogs (big sized pointer, and small sized Sheltie) unattended all night with other large dogs that my dogs have never met, a Lab and a Golden retriever and failed to see that my little dog has been mauled by either one or both of those large dogs until a much later timeShe failed to bring my dog to the vet which might have saved him if he was brought in immediately when the attack happened but yet she and her husband had time to give my dog a bath to wash off the dried blood that was on him so he will be presentable when I picked him upI brought my poor dying dog to the vet myself crying and heartbrokenShe failed to be a safe dog sitter and she puts future dogs at risk of death
Rover needs to deactivate her account and cut her off completelyShe is unfit to do this job safelyPls stop her from ki

I used Rover.com for the first time to find a pet sitter in August I input my zip code and found a list of several dog sitters in my area I contacted a couple of the dog sitters, including the girl I eventually hired She had multiple star reviews so I contacted her on the website and she responded immediately We agreed to meet at my house and I met with her and liked her enough to decide to check her references.; She provided me with references and I called and talked to all three They all highly recommended her She stayed with my dog in August and I came home and knew immediately that something was not right It looked like she had been in our bedroom closet and had gone through our drawers and belongingsI didn't immediately know that anything had been stolen About weeks later, I was on a local neighborhood website and another family in my town had posted that their dog sitter had totally ripped them off and they posted photos of the thieves One of the photos was of the same girl that I had hired through rover.com When I realized that she had stolen from this other family, I went home and took a closer look and discovered that she had stolen jewelry and precious items from me too I went to the local police the next morning and filed a police report It turns out that this girl had done the same thing to multiple other families in my town and she and her cohorts were all heroin addicts looking to steal items to fund their heroin drug habits The police told me that they had contacted rover.com and told them of her thieving behavior and rover had taken her down and banned her from marketing her dog sitter services on the website The big thing that I am really angry about is that rover.com never even contacted me to alert me to the fact that this dog sitter was a thief She texted me and her other clients after rover.com took her down and she said that rover.com took her down because they suspected her of booking dog sitting appointments off their site (so they wouldn't get their cut of the fees charged) This was a total lie and if I hadn't already been suspicious of her I could have hired her again to come dog sit for me, not knowing that she was a lying thief When I called rover to complain that they hadn't contacted me, they had nothing to say about it They just don't care They supposedly vet their dog sitters, but clearly, this girl passed their screening and turned out to be a lying thief I would never recommend rover.com to anyone based on how they handled knowing that a dog sitter that booked appointments through their website went on and ripped those customers off She is now behind bars because another woman who got ripped off by her had the courage to set up a sting with our local police and she was caught with a credit card in her possession that belonged to one of her clients She and her cohorts are expected to be in jail for a long time for what they did Rover.com needs to assume some responsibility for their dog sitters when they turn out to be thieves They did nothing and they seem to have no interest in protecting the people who use their services DO NOT hire a dog sitter through this website Find someone who has actually worked for someone you know and make sure you know what kind of person you are hiring to come into your home and take care of your precious pet

My last sitter through Rover.com didn't take good care of my dogShe came home sick and scratchedThe sitter also lost my dog's items such as; leash, two bowls, food container, etcI told her I could wait to get my things, but it's been more than a month! I bought new items, and asked her for a partial refundShe doesn't reply to my messages, completely ignoring meThere's no way to contact the business to report the personI could only write a review, which I haveCustomers should be able to report any problem to the businessI have all the messages, where she offered to pay me back, but disappeared when asked toHer name is Jessica PMy dog was acting weird for two weeks, and sometimes she's still scared around people she knowsShe has never been like that! Poor business, poor customer serviceHer name is Jessica P from Knoxville, Tennessee

Rover.com does not care about the safety of your pets We booked Henry S*** of Daly City, California through Rover.com to watch our dogs over from Dec20-Jan On the evening of December 31, I received a phone call from Hank asking what he should do because our dogs had serious wounds I asked him to send me pictures, and when I saw the wounds I told him to take the dogs to the Vet ER Rover.com has copies of these pictures, and are aware of the pictures since I discussed them with the "trust and safety specialists" I spoke with My husband spoke with the ER vet that same night, and the ER Vet told him that the dogs had pressure sores from being in a confined spaceWe picked up our dogs the night of Jan1, As I informed your "Trust & Safety Specialists" on January 1, 2019, when we picked up our dogs, they were emaciated, could barely walk, and had horrible pressure sores Additionally, your team has the photos of the pressure sores on our dogs We took our dogs to their regular vet on Jan2, We had taken the dogs to see their vet in Nov2018, who will verify what their weight was, and that they had no sores or other wounds or cuts or scrapes on their skin Both dogs had lost pounds in the days they were with Hank He didn't even pretend to feed them, since most of the food we sent was returned to usFurthermore, both dogs required fluid IV for treatment of dehydrationAnd both the ER Vet and our regular vet agree that the sores on their bodies were recent pressure sores from being in a too small confined space for too longSo it appears that Hank locked our dogs in wire cages for the entire time he was obligated to watch them, and starved our dogs
Yet, despite knowing that Henry S*** has caused serious injury to our dogs, his profile is still on the Rover.com web site, and he is apparently still allowed to book dogsFurthermore, his profile is obviously a complete lie, since it says:
"I am Hank, I work from home full time and have a very flexible schedule to provide care for your pet(s)I am currently starting my own pet boarding and daycare service companyMy goal is to build a solid relationship with every client I meet by providing them with superb serviceYour pet will receive at least walks per day and notification updates every hours- providing status on activities, temperament, food and water consumption
With over years of experience with pets, I promise you that your pet will be in good careYou can contact me via text, email, or callPlease feel free to message me with any questionsLooking forward to meeting you and your pet!"
Hank's profile does not say that he will keep dogs locked up in crates the entire visit Instead, it shows pictures of a nice, clean living room and mentions a fenced in yard If we had known that our dogs would be confined to crates, we would not have hired Henry S*** He also appears to have fake reviews loaded to bury my critical reviewIf you look at his reviews, every time someone complains, reviews that are not from Verified Stays are entered praising himHow are consumers supposed to trust your service if you let fake reviews bury real reviews and give the impression that someone has higher ratings/more dog stays/etc
The Rover.com web site says that less than 20% of potential sitters are accepted, and stresses how consumers can trust you with their petsThis is advertisingIts clear that Rover.com has done nothing to vet its sitters, and cares more about money than the safety and health of the poor pets booked with your sittersIf Rover.com actually cared about the safety of people's pets, it would have pulled Henry S***'s profile by now instead of giving some vague verbiage that Rover.com is doing a "holistic review" of his account." What does that even mean? Have you contacted all the owners of pets who are currently booked with him? Have you demanded to see where he actually is housing the dogs and seen what conditions the dogs are kept in?
We are in process of filing a complaint with Animal control, and the police

I boarded my dog via RoverAfter I picked up my dog, I found one of her teeth was broken She had to do a surgery to remove that toothThe doctor said the reason for this kind of condition is chewing some hard materials when she feel nervous, like gates or cageI contacted sitter and RoverThey rejected claim for reimbursement due to hour window and they refused my refund request because sitter told them nothing happened during the stay I dont understand at all
my dog acted as usual after boarding until I fed her with brushing treatsHow should I know immediately for her broken teeth? Should I open her month and check each tooth after I picked up her? Or should I schedule a health check with vet before I pick up my dog to ensure everything is OK? Are you going to pay for those cost after each boarding?
I am not waiting for months then come back saying my pets has issuesI contacted boarder right way I found this incidentThen I have to schedule with vet to evalua

I have tried numerous times to contact a sitter and I don't even get a call back from some of them, that I have contacted Very disappointing!

One of my dogs was poisoned at a Rover.com sitter's house"A Place for Rover, Inc." (a.k.aRover.com) makes it appear to consumers looking for pet-sitters that all of their "5-star pet sitters" are carefully chosen with "pet safety their number one concern." That is simply (curiously, not one of their sitters appears to have below stars, including the sitter I recently gave star)If one digs deeply enough one finds that the company does not seem to check anything their sitters post on the Rover.com website nor carefully check a sitter's background to see whether the sitter can provide reasonable or safe services, and the company disclaims all liability for any fraud perpetrated via their websiteAnalysis of the company website, its ad's for pet-sitters to join them, and communications I have had with the company reveal numerous contradictions about whether sitters are vetted at all, but the bottom line seems to be this: the appearance crafted for the general public is of a company that carefully ensures the highest pet-sitter qualifications with pet-safety and quality of care given priority in "hiring" pet-sitters (except that sitters are "independent contractors," wink-wink) while the company makes no effort to ensure anything of the sortI will lodge a complaint with the relevant regulatory bodies for what appears to be internet fraud by the company; I'm not sure about the legal status of individuals who engage in fraud via the company website but that merits a complaint as wellOne of my dogs has been slowly dying for two months after a stay with a Rover.com sitter whose abilities do not match her advertising (some people would call that "lying" but it might be a case of "puffery," arrogance, lack of self-awareness, ignorance, lack of common sense, and greed)This is the review I posted on the Rover.com website after my two dogs stayed at the house of a Rover.com sitter, Sheila C., here in San Diego while we were out of town for Thanksgiving: "Scott LJanuary 16, Verified Stay Zero starsOne of our dogs might not survive after being poisoned by extremely toxic plants in Sheila C’s yardContrary to her profile, Sheila isn’t really “intuitive with any potential medical symptoms that might arise and comfortable providing any medical treatments that might be necessary.” She explicitly claims knowing pet “first aid” but if she knew about basic canine medical problems, bothered to examine her yard for dangers or to see what my dog had eaten once he became sick (rather than passively stumbling upon the cause on the fourth day of illness), or called the Rover.com support line for veterinary advice (per Rover.com protocol) when my dog was on his second day of ghastly bright yellow diarrhea, my dog might not be slowly dying from damage to his GI tract going on two months nowNor was it true that Sheila’s yard is fully enclosed: our two dogs walked out of her yard on the first day, one dog crossed a dangerous street to return home but, fortunately, was found uninjured by another dog-sitter whom Sheila had no previous acquaintance with but had sub-contracted for the first few days while Sheila was out of town; the sub-contracted sitter had to find boards to block the gap in the yard’s enclosureMost recently, in a hurtful and presumptuous response yesterday to my request for her gardener’s contact info to see what other toxins my dog might have ingested, she refused to provide the information and asserted, with zero basis and falsely, that I am “trying to cast blame for a medical condition that was already present prior to Mufasa's stay with us.” Sheila is irresponsible, negligent, and untruthful, and our previously perfectly healthy two-and-a-half-year-old dog, Mufasa, is now suffering the consequences as we pay mounting vet bills in a desperate attempt to save himAnd yes, Sheila, NOW I am casting blame."

This company claims they provide "star pet sitters" but our experience was quite the opposite
After multiple pleading emails and calls Rover refused to refund the almost $we paid themOur home and pets would have been better off being left aloneOur house sitter left our
floors sticky with peach pits scattered throughoutShe did not pick up our mail or newspapers; she left mailbox stuffed and overflowingShe did not bring in garbage cansShe did not empty the cat boxShe did not put out fresh waterWhen we returned home our dog was hiding and then vomitedShe had strangers in our home to spend the nightOur passports are missing and had to be reported stolenRover claimed it is not their responsibility to refund usBeware of this companyThey should care that pets and belongings in dangerThey don't

I have had several issues with this company and I am very disappointed in their serviceAs a sitter my dog was viciously attacked (puncured above his eye and lost a tooth, and will likely need $1,in dental work) by a customer's dogThe rover helpline people didn't careI filed a request for rover insurance to cover some of the medical expenses and was denied because he didnt have a profile set up currently, which he has in the past but I took it down because he didnt like using rover siters so I leave him with familyEven though the phone representative said that any dog in my home would be covered regaurdless of profile statusSo not only do they lie, just to make a few bucks, no one from rover showed any actual concern for my dogs well beingNot only is he in physical pain but he is psychologically traumatized and won't leave the house, now all that for me to make under $and them $Not worth it peopleAll they care about is making a buckWhen it comes to well being of pets, they don't give a $h!tThe only reason we ever used rover is because they have a promise to insurance medical injury and property damage but all they really do if you file a claim is deny it, or charge you or the customer for the damagesThey don't actually take any responsibility or cover liabilityIn addition, I have had sitters through rover, who through parties in my house who left dirt and empty liquor bottles in my house and even caught a teapot on fireImagine if my house caught on fireIt was terrifyingI don't recommend rover to anyone who cares about animals and their own homes

I had a sitter stay at my home to take care of my dog for the weekendThe sitter had a visitor stay at my homeI have camera that took pictures showing him and her in my living roomI came back and asked the sitter if she had anyone stay at the house she stated noI contacted rover and all they did is ask for the pictures and gave me a creditI told them I want a refund as I am not using the service againSince then my account has been deleted but as far as the sitter all they did is flag her accountThis is more of a safety issue for my dog and my homeNow her boyfriend and the sitter know where I liveI am afraid or retaliation and all rover did is offer credit

I started as just a dog owner I have a pound mastiff, and when I went out of town, the idea of a kennel just about made me cancel Thinking of my boy in a box for a week was terrifying I found a great sitter and he was able to be part of a family and roam around like he is used to doing
Now I am a rover sitter and love this company I have been able to establish a respectable part time income, while loving and cuddling on lots of wonderful pups I have established a regular clientele, while still getting new clients Rover has been amazingly supportive I have called their 24/support on more than occasion and they are always ready with advise and a solution I have not had a single prob;em that they didn't go above and beyond to fix I have been fortunate that I have not had any serious issues, but they even help with the small stuff
I would like to see maybe a stricter process for establishing sittersOverall this is an amazing service

On May 8th I became approved as a dog sitter / walker at Rover.comThat same day I went online to the Rover Store and order merchandise in order to promote my business I ordered business cards, door knob hangers, car magnets, etc My bank account was debited for the amount of the order that same day It is now over weeks later and I don't have any of the merchandise In the beginning when I contacted the company via the Rover Store web site, I got replies via email in a fairly short amount of time Now, my emails are going unanswered In addition, when I called the toll free number today to talk with someone in person, I had to leave a message
I've contacted Rover.com about this several times and each time I was told that the Rover Store is separate from the them and they don't have control over it I find that unacceptable as *** *** is producing merchandise with Rover.com's name on it and they have no control over timely production and deliveries?
Usually when some
