I hired someone on Rover.com to take care of my dog while I am out of the state for daysThe person I hired cancelled hours prior to me leavingI had scheduled her month in advance and made sure she was in my price range (many other dog sitters are almost double)At the time of booking I had many options and chose her due to her proximity to my house and familiarity for my dog with the neighborhood and price rangeWell, she cancelled while I was working and about to leaveI had to scramble to find someone to watch himThe only people left were double my price rangeAfter spending additional hours trying to find someone, someone agreed but was almost doubleI was on the phone with a Rover customer service rep before accepting and they said I would be credited the difference, never ONCE mentioned a policy of only up to 25%Well, I dropped my dog off and I get an email later in the evening saying I would be only credited $48, while the total price difference was close to $

On May 8th I became approved as a dog sitter / walker at Rover.comThat same day I went online to the Rover Store and order merchandise in order to promote my business I ordered business cards, door knob hangers, car magnets, etc My bank account was debited for the amount of the order that same day It is now over weeks later and I don't have any of the merchandise In the beginning when I contacted the company via the Rover Store web site, I got replies via email in a fairly short amount of time Now, my emails are going unanswered In addition, when I called the toll free number today to talk with someone in person, I had to leave a message
I've contacted Rover.com about this several times and each time I was told that the Rover Store is separate from the them and they don't have control over it I find that unacceptable as *** *** is producing merchandise with Rover.com's name on it and they have no control over timely production and deliveries?

This is the worst possible company you could hire for pet careI both watched pets and had our dog taken care of by Rover sitters for three years before I finally could not take it anymore! First off, Rover robs money from their pet sitters and treats them like cattleI had a woman decide to have her neighbor watch her dog, I refunded her payment in full, then she changed her mind and called Rover with a fake store about me so she could try to get freebiesWithout talking to me Rover freezed my account and put a note on my account They believed her not me and this woman has never used Rover before Keep in mind I was issued a background check and had been a loyal Rover customer for years!
In addition, customers can post reviews of their stay but Rover does not allow sitters to reply to these review s even after claiming that they do allow this reply toolI one had an owner lie that her son was potty trainedShe gave me a star review but I could not warn other sitters that the dog was not potty trained and would destroy their home
When having our dog cared for I called Rover support three times to add a serviceI was treated so rudely by the woman who answered and was then sent an email saying thank you for contacting usI had to contact the sitter privately and just paid her without using the appNever again!
Because Rover made accusations about me that lacked evidence, and treated me with disrespect, and has no idea what they are doing, we will never use them againI have shared my experience with all of my colleagues and friends
My husband and I will never use this company again and will pay more to use a reputable pet boarding facility that is not run by telemarketers with no people skills
If you love your pets please go elsewherePet care is not the time to cut corners, and Rover does not truly care for its customers, sitters, or petsThey value a quick buck more than retaining long term clients and training their support staff and sitters with universal protocols

I had been a member of rover for years, doing dog sitting through them, and recently more activeI hadn't had any issues or complaints at all, until someone's dog managed to get out of their kennel, then opened the locked sliding door to my house (leaving my house exposed for who knows how long)After looking for this dog for hours in our neighborhood, AND notifying the owner, the dog was located at Animal Care ServicesRover told me all I had to do was submit my statement explaining what happened, and that would be itI provided them with every bit of information they asked for, and they told me they would pause my account while they looked into ittwo weeks later my account was still paused, and they had told me nothingSo I finally asked them on it, and their response was "oh sorry, we decided to close your account indefinitely, and you will not be able to use ANY of the services"I then asked if there was an appeal process I could do, and they told me no flat out

Well let me tell you about my Rover.com experience! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!Holy Cow what a mess! They do not care about your dog, cat ,home or anything elseDo not be fooledThis is all about the all mighty dollar regardless of the cost to the customerMy wife and I went on a day cruise and only my neighbors intervening in our absence saved our dogs livesWe selected one of Rovers Star sitters after interviewing a young ladyI am not sure what kind of background check or vetting process they claim to run but I believe Taco Bell and McDonald's has a better screening process in place....WHAT A JOKE! My sitter who was staying at our home walked our dogs as best we could tell from video one time eachThe dogs were not fed or given any water for two daysOne dog was put on a balcony in freezing temperatures while the other was left inside with the heat wide open over degreesThey smoked pot and maybe something else, made drug deals from my homeFor two days it was a revolving door for drugs and my dogs being abused in the meantimeI am so pissed off about this I can hardly seeMy neighbors became concerned when they saw my smallest dog locked out in the cold for hours and did not see our other dog at allThank God one of our friends went by to check on our dogsThe dog inside was dehydrated and starvingThe dog outside was freezing, starving and also dehydratedThis dog could barely walkWhile there they noticed drugs laying around randomly every where!! Then they noticed my wife's new Camaro Convertible was not thereHours later a couple of young hoodlums show up in my car!! Who are these guys? Where is the sitter I hired? HOW AND WHY DID I TAKE THIS CHANCE ON ROVER.COM? They almost killed my dogs, trashed my home, sold and did drugs in my home and stole my carBut they (ROVER)
say they are not responsibleWell part of that is right...they are truly not a responsible companyI am having the car thieves arrestedI have already filed the paper workI wish I could have these jerks that are raking in the profits arrested as well....STAY AWAY FROM ROVER.COM and please don't right me some petty footnote that you sympathize with my situation, I do not need to hear your crapI have read your BS on all the other negative reviewsIf I can take you to court or arbitration you can have your say there

One of my dogs was poisoned at a Rover.com sitter's house"A Place for Rover, Inc." (a.k.aRover.com) makes it appear to consumers looking for pet-sitters that all of their "5-star pet sitters" are carefully chosen with "pet safety their number one concern." That is simply (curiously, not one of their sitters appears to have below stars, including the sitter I recently gave star)If one digs deeply enough one finds that the company does not seem to check anything their sitters post on the Rover.com website nor carefully check a sitter's background to see whether the sitter can provide reasonable or safe services, and the company disclaims all liability for any fraud perpetrated via their websiteAnalysis of the company website, its ad's for pet-sitters to join them, and communications I have had with the company reveal numerous contradictions about whether sitters are vetted at all, but the bottom line seems to be this: the appearance crafted for the general public is of a company that carefully ensures the highest pet-sitter qualifications with pet-safety and quality of care given priority in "hiring" pet-sitters (except that sitters are "independent contractors," wink-wink) while the company makes no effort to ensure anything of the sortI will lodge a complaint with the relevant regulatory bodies for what appears to be internet fraud by the company; I'm not sure about the legal status of individuals who engage in fraud via the company website but that merits a complaint as wellOne of my dogs has been slowly dying for two months after a stay with a Rover.com sitter whose abilities do not match her advertising (some people would call that "lying" but it might be a case of "puffery," arrogance, lack of self-awareness, ignorance, lack of common sense, and greed)This is the review I posted on the Rover.com website after my two dogs stayed at the house of a Rover.com sitter, Sheila C., here in San Diego while we were out of town for Thanksgiving: "Scott LJanuary 16, Verified Stay Zero starsOne of our dogs might not survive after being poisoned by extremely toxic plants in Sheila C’s yardContrary to her profile, Sheila isn’t really “intuitive with any potential medical symptoms that might arise and comfortable providing any medical treatments that might be necessary.” She explicitly claims knowing pet “first aid” but if she knew about basic canine medical problems, bothered to examine her yard for dangers or to see what my dog had eaten once he became sick (rather than passively stumbling upon the cause on the fourth day of illness), or called the Rover.com support line for veterinary advice (per Rover.com protocol) when my dog was on his second day of ghastly bright yellow diarrhea, my dog might not be slowly dying from damage to his GI tract going on two months nowNor was it true that Sheila’s yard is fully enclosed: our two dogs walked out of her yard on the first day, one dog crossed a dangerous street to return home but, fortunately, was found uninjured by another dog-sitter whom Sheila had no previous acquaintance with but had sub-contracted for the first few days while Sheila was out of town; the sub-contracted sitter had to find boards to block the gap in the yard’s enclosureMost recently, in a hurtful and presumptuous response yesterday to my request for her gardener’s contact info to see what other toxins my dog might have ingested, she refused to provide the information and asserted, with zero basis and falsely, that I am “trying to cast blame for a medical condition that was already present prior to Mufasa's stay with us.” Sheila is irresponsible, negligent, and untruthful, and our previously perfectly healthy two-and-a-half-year-old dog, Mufasa, is now suffering the consequences as we pay mounting vet bills in a desperate attempt to save himAnd yes, Sheila, NOW I am casting blame."

We do not believe they vet their sitters fully or take the right action when there are serious complaints.we are recovering from leaving our dogs under the care of one of their sitters.we had to return early from our vacation as we had notification from a concerned neighbor that it appeared that the dog sitter was rarely there and when the neighbor texted the sitter to try to highlight his concerns she said she wasn't going to return at all we had booked her to stay in our house at nightWe came back to find our house heavily soiled and damaged iwith the dogs urine and fecesIt is now under an insurance investigationRover.com have been fully informed of these events but have done nothing to date, to avoid a situation like this happening in the futureShe is still advertised on their web page as available even though I reccomended for the safety of other dogs in the future they should suspend her at least until this investigation has been completedWe travel often and previous to this experience we have had three sitters in consistently over the last yearsOur dogs have always been wonderful and we have never had to report any damage

In four days, the pet sitter we found through Rover.com lost our dog twice, was never home in six times we or others checked on him, forgot where the dog food was, and left our house a messThen, after he got fired by Rover.com, he sued me
When I contacted them, Rover's lawyers refused to cooperate with me or give me any information about him or their reasons for terminating him, even ignoring a subpoenaThey claimed confidentiality and that their sitters are "independent contractors" to absolve themselves of blameOn their website, they also claim to run background checks on their sitters, but they don't even request an ID or SS#When I spoke to their customer service team, they didn't know my guy's legal name
Do not trust this irresponsible company with your pet or your keys

I left my dog with a Rover sitter and had the worst professional experience with herMy dog had a heart condition, and although he was very active and seemingly healthy, he did experience heart failure in the pastBecause of this, I met with the sitter beforehand and provided a two page document of how to care for him - his temperament, what symptoms to look for, and emergency contact info
The sitter reached out to me to express concern about his behaviorI asked to send a videoShe waited hours before sending oneWhen I got it, I said I was worried and asked her to keep me updatedShe did not communicate with me at al, other than sending pictures of my dog with no text
hours passed since we last talked, and I learned my dog was taken to the vet, provided CPR, and passed awayThe medical report said he was having respiratory issues all night, but I was not informed of this
I later reached out to Rover to express my concerns, primarily because I did not want any other dogs and their owners experiencing the same thing as I didThey were understanding and empathetic to the situation; however, I am not sure if they have done much to proactively prevent this from occurring againIn their words, "As independent business owners and as a marketplace for them to list their businesses, I alone unfortunately personally do not have every power to change their business, remove them etc like you would a traditional "boss" or "employee"."

I'll get right to the point - there is absolutely no vetting process to ensure that the person with whom you are entrusting your pet's well being is actually suited to take on such a responsibilityAnyone can sito offer their services - Rover does a background check for the criminal records, but there is no interview process, licensing or certification to ensure that the person is fit to care for your petMy two dogs were severely neglected after I monitored the pet sitter through my security systemCustomer support was worthless with a simply apology e-mail, but no commitment to follow through to ensure that the sitter would be held accountableIt wasn't until I posted on their FB page that anyone took me seriously or even caredThe business model isn't one that protects the consumer at allAnyone can sign up and become one of their pet sitters without any vetting processI've seen a ton of PR about what a cool place it is to work - how about a cool company with integrity to truly offer the "trustworthy" service that they claim to provide

DO NOT USE ROVER!!! they do not actually screen or background check their sitters , and they do not screen any pets the sitter might haveits a waste of money as their insurance doesn't really cover you at all! and they charge your card for unauthorized charges

Avoid this service at ALL COSTSOur week old puppy was nearly killed by a Rover sitter (Caroline Sin *** ***) who left him unattended for 10+ hours and starved him of BOTH food and waterOur brand new $sofa was covered in his vomit, diarrhea, and urine (as was the puppy himself)We caught the Rover sitter in numerous lies and discovered evidence that during the time she was in our house, she consumed alcohol and did not care for our animal whatsoeverRover's reply? That they are not liable and they have ALSO not suspended the sitter so she is currently putting other animals in danger as I typeAbsolutely DisgustingI cannot even explain the emotional stress and anxiety caused by this companyRun, don't walk, in the other direction

Signed up with Rover.com for a sitter that my dog could stay with in their home The sitter and I texted back and forth, I asked if there for a shady place for my dog while outside, she said they would be indoors most of the time, and yes there was some shade outsideWhen I took my dog to her house , the living room had a smell of pee, her dog was barking a lot, she put her in the garagemy dog was still very nervous and started to pee a little on her carpet, she never does thisI rushed her out the door she had taken her dog, the garage smelled like cat pee, and when I went out to the back yard, it was covered with dog poopI grabbed my dog and went back into the house and told Mariah (the sitter) that I cannot leave my dog hereI asked her, Don't you pick up your dog poop? She said it was her mom's houseI called Rover.com and explained why I did not leave my dogThey would only refund 1/of my money because it was passed the cancellation dateThat sitters house was not sanitary for my dog to stay inThey told me that's why they suggest a meet and greet before bookingDoesn't look good for a service that is suppose to have reliable sitters

Hi there,
I had a really bad experience when I send my dog to boarding house from Rover few days ago
I send my dog to one boarding house family on Wednesday night, and ready to pick her up on Sunday MorningOn Sunday monring, the family called and told me my dog ran away because they didnt close the doorI was so worried about my dog because it was raining on Sunday and really get angry about the familyHow come they didnt close the doorTHIS IS THE BASIC THING THEY SHOULD AVOID!
I asked their neighbor to see my dog and told them my dog ran away on sunday morning, as I have been told my dog ran out on Sunday Monring
Actually I found out my dog ran out on Sat NIGHT!! NOT SUNDAY MONRING!! They told me the wrong time and I told every one the wrong time that my dog ran outWe missing the best time to look for my dog
I cant believe this will happen in Rover boarding house familyI thought they are really take care of my dog, really careful to look after any dogsBut they dont

This is the worst company ever! They take a percentage out of your pay, it used to be %but now it's 20%! They monitor and read every single message you send to people through their website, talk about invasion of privacy! On top of that they do not care at all about the sitters who have been with for years and have wonderful reviews because they will take the smallest thing as a reason to permanently deactivate your accountThey are the most unethical business I have ever come in contact with

We hired a sitter through Rover to watch our dogs while we were out of town in CaliforniaOur dog *** ate a sock and it was in his system for over two days before he was taken to emergency services to have it removedOur and a half year old lab died as a resultIf he would have been taken sooner, the vet would have been able to provide a different route of care and he would have survivedI paid Rover to provide reasonable care of our dog in our absence and there was a significant break of tardinees and dutyIt was reasonably forseeable for the sitter to have taken him to emergency care in our absence and it did not happenOur medical bills totaled 10,and we now have a dead dog

I recently had Katie babysit my four dogsI told her one of my dogs had kennel cough and that she would need to give the dog medication every day for the kennel coughI also told her to keep a very close eye on him because he was sickI checked in with her every day and she said that he was OK
Then I requested that she take him to the vet because he didn’t eat one dayShe couldn’t get him into my usual vet and then told me he was doing okI had no reference to my dogs condition so I told her that my boyfriend would try to get him in tomorrow
My boyfriend got home to one of my dogs barely breathing taking shallow breaths and barely movingHe took the dog immediately to the emergency vet and they said that if he hadn’t taken him that he would’ve died
She did not take the health of my dog seriously nor could she tell that my dog was sickConsidering he almost died she should’ve noticed that he wasn’t doing wellI also asked her to feed my fish while I was away which is a fairly simple taskShe completely over fed them and half of my fish diedI have used rover on multiple occasions and have never had a complaint
Katie is not fit to watch dogs or fish and I hope that all dog owners take me seriouslyI can’t imagine what else might happen under her care

Video evidence confirms Rover did not deliver services from Aug - 16, as promised Upon notifying Merchant, they instructed me to contact Rover employee directly to handle dispute This is a corporate issue not one to burden customer(s) $was paid for this service and merchant will not handle
After four separate emails attempting to resolve and four separate refusals to handle from merchant, we're extremely frustrated and certainly disappointed with a service we hired in good faith to care for our pets & home

My fiance and I hired a pet sitter through ROVER.COM to stay overnight in our home and to care for our dog, Rue, and our two horses; Big Ben and MustangThe pet sitter lives locally, studies pre-veterinary medicine at UConn, and has star reviews on their websiteThe sense of security of having a person stay in our home for the safety of our home and our animals was a priorityWe were hoping to have a reliable, trustworthy pet sitter that we could use regularly in the futureWe booked the sitter for our two week vacation only after having her to the house, twice, for two tours plus a run down of chores, and booking her for an overnight prior to our two week trip as a trial while my fiance and I stayed at a friend's house
Upon returning home from our two week excursion throughout the Midwest, we were met with urine and feces in every upstairs room of our houseThe odor met us at the door as well as the loud whine of our well pump failingDespite our literal months of correspondence in preparation of a two week vacation, our pet sitter left our dog for extended periods of time (including overnight) and failed to perform even our most basic requests
The indoor plants were wilted and some of them diedThere was no new trash since we left and the barrel was never taken to the curb and our mail was never brought insideThe toilet had grown mold without use, no new dishes were in the strainer or dishwasherIn fact, our dishwasher had never been opened - the lit up word "clean" was still on from when we ran it the night before we leftOur immediate neighbor didn't see a car in the driveway in the mornings and thought Rue was being boarded at the kennel because of the lack of activity at the houseAll fly spray bottles left for the horses were still completely full; our horses weren't sprayed once in the time we were awayThe horse fencing was left open in two places and Mustang kicked out a stud in his stallAlso, our well pump had failed and so our water had to be shut offWere weren't made aware of any damages until we came home
When confronted via text, the sitter confessed to only staying "most nights", complained that she wasn't getting paid enough for the workload and admitted to having unreliable transportationWe find these excuses unacceptableWe left the names and numbers of several people should she need help and she did not take advantage of themShe never once hinted to us that there was an issue while we were awayShe accepted the job with enthusiasm, even after an overnight trial, and then neglected her responsibilities as a pet and house sitter
Given the substantial evidence of neglect plus the confession of not staying in the house multiple nights, we can deduce that she did not provide the service that was promised to usRover and the sitter are unwilling to work with us on a refundRover claims they are only a third party; you can book based on reviews of a sitter and you must pay through them, but they assume no responsibility when a sitter does not do their job/neglects your home and animals
We recommend NEVER booking with ROVER.COMWe are heartbroken for our babies

Rover sitters leave dozens of dogs dead every month and even more injured or lostThey do not care about your pets, they care about their reputation which is why they don't share the information of how many dogs they killLet me tell you, there are a lot of beloved family pets who never got to see their families ever again because they were killed by a negligent sitterRover then continues to allow these people to watch pets because they only care about making money -- and the money they make goes to hiding negative reviews and expanding to other countries where they can cause more deathsAs was the case for the dog sitter that killed my dogShe had a history of negligence that Rover knew about but because they did nothing, she was allowed to keep watching people's pets until time ran out with my dogFinally, they did not even remove her from the platform until I went to the local news -- again, because they are only worried about their imageIn reality, Rover is the absolute WORST thing to happen to the pet care industryThey are greedy, evil humans with no regard to the pain they cause on a daily basis - they will take your money but when a tragedy happens, all you get is an automated email stating "oops sorry about killing you dog." I hope more people discover the truth about this companyI had no idea that by using them, I would never see my best friend againHe deserved so much better and the fact that he was just one out of so many killed means that this company needs to stop what they're doing because no one is safe with ethically devoid Rover out there watching our best friends
