Anytime Fitness is a franchise with locations all around the world. Each location can be owned and operated by a different business owner. However, some entrepreneurs own more than one location. One of the great attributes of this particular franchise is the flexibility it allows its franchise...

owners, to grow their business how they best see fit for their specific location. Thus, at my Anytime Fitness of West Lawn, choose not to accept the [redacted] Insurance program. made this business decision for many different reasons that briefly described to [redacted] and [redacted] when they were attending my facility on February 11, 2017. Since I did not sell [redacted] her membership which she purchased at the Anytime Fitness in Blandon PA, do not feel it is my responsibility to inform her of the ramifications associated with the insurance program that she has invested in but rather the insurance institute and the facility she purchased the agreement from originally. Unfortunately, was the bearer of bad news for [redacted]. However, I did inform her that if she wanted to, she could sign up at my club.Members of Anytime Fitness enjoy the ability to go to any Anytime Fitness after 30 days of membership. This is known as reciprocity and is great to advantage of belonging to this fitness chain. However, when a member transfers into another club, other than their original gym, they are subject to the rules/policies of that new club. Transfers take place when a member uses another facility more than 50% of their overall usage during a given period of time. [redacted] and [redacted] transferred into my club. My policy here states that I do not accept the [redacted] insurance program. explained to [redacted] and [redacted] that if they wanted to continue utilizing this facility that they would have to sign up as a member. In conclusion, the Anytime Fitness in West Lawn does not accept the [redacted] Insurance program. That business decision was made for many reasons and is fully supported by the corpoarate franchise. Furthermore, many of my members are former [redacted] participants and have seen the value in my club and therefore signed an agreement with our facility. We apologize for any confusion and if there are any further questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.Troy l[redacted] Owner Anytime Fitness

From: Scott [redacted]Date: June 3, 2016 at 5:01:38 PM EDTTo: Andrew [redacted]Subject: Complaint [redacted]I did some research with our staff and our billing company. I determined that customer...

[redacted]l had signed up for a membership and after a period of one month his membership defaulted due to issues with his credit card information. [redacted] was charged a total of $69.12. This was one months payment as agreed , with the addition of a $20 club enhancement fee that is charged to all members in December. The club enhancement fee is charged to all members regardless of the type of membership they have purchased. No further charges were taken due to  the billing discrepancy. [redacted] sent us multiple emails indicating three different scenarios regarding his membership. He stated that he signed a cancellation form the same day he signed up for membership.(we do not except a cancellation at the same time we are selling a membership) He also stated he had sent certified letters to the club requesting a cancellation. [redacted] emails also say that he put his membership on freeze. Our club staff called him and attempted to update his billing information also indicating he needed to stop in and fill out a cancellation form. Our policy is to attach any correspondence, including certified mail and cancellation forms,as well as any freeze forms to the members contract. Our records do not show any such forms being processed. It is possible the mail was sent to the wrong location. We are researching with the post office in an attempt to verify. It is clear to us that [redacted] does not wish to continue his membership. We do not have a valid credit card on file therefore it is impossible for us to bill him any further. I have instructed our operations manager to contact the credit agency and remove him from collections. We will cancel his membership immediately with no further charges. We will continue to look for evidence of the cancellation and attach it to his file. If [redacted] could stop by the club at some point we could have him sign a form which is our standard cancellation policy. As of today's date [redacted] has paid for the month he used and we will not attempt to collect any further membership dues.Scott R[redacted]Anytime Fitness

To Whom It May Concern,
We have spoken to this member various times and he did not understand
cancellation procedures. All members sign an agreement for a 30 day written
notice to cancel after the contract term has been met. We ensure at signing all
members know about this policy before they initial specifically for it,
agreeing they understand and accept it. There is a cancellation term in the
contract stating that if we did not meet services outlined by our club within 6
months of the signing date he can cancel and receive a refund. The member
stayed the whole contract term and only brought up the false statements after
told about the 30 day notice.
We purchased the club in February and on March 29th we received new machines.
This included top of the line ellipticals replacing the malfunctioning machines
left by the previous owner. The club is cleaned daily by our staff and
professionally two times a week by a cleaning service.
If you need anything else or more clarification please feel free to contact us.
Thank you,

I did speak with the general manager that night and...

updated my complaint ticket with his response which was what he said. He told me he would cancel my membership and refund me for both oct and nov dues. I checked my bank account and I do not yet have the credits but he told me this could take up to 5 business days. If I do not receive the credit I will contact the Revdex.com at that time. Thank you
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to   me.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint [redacted] and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
My complaint with anytime fitness in moundsville WV has not been resolved. Thanks

We stand to our original response. It is our policy and in our contract that we require 30 days written notice. If a payment lands with in those 30 days we do have  to take that last payment but will extend the 30 days for the month that was paid for. I apologize to her that this inconvenient however as I stated in the last response her membership will officially be cancelled as of March 10th 2016 and no further payment will be taken.

The December payment has been refunded to [redacted]  It was processed yesterday and should take 5 business days to be back on her card. Thanks[redacted]

Hello, Anytime Fitness is independently owned and operated when the member reciev s email it stars they are being transferred to Club they are using and they need to check with guildlines she choose to ignore when we had several attempt to reach her we are unaware of what the Folsom Club had set up with her as the have their own rules. We aren’t aware of any of our clubs doing cash mo-mo as this is not apart of the franchise rules. She is upset with us when we advised her to contact the Folsom Club where she signed up. We offered many flexible options to pay off the 2 months she owed the Anytime Cameron Park trying to be understanding and explain that everyone is set up through 3 party company Abc to have dues staged and when payments are not received they are contacted email and text message to call us immediately. Again she made the choice to ignore us. I would encourage her as we did to speak to Folsom for her refund if that’s what she feels but no member gets refunds our policy is that they have to submit the cancellation in writing which I do believe that is how Folsomoperates.

Again this just sounds like a lot of useless insults to my staff and my business.  The statements [redacted] is making just are not true.  I deal with facts and we have plenty of them to back up what we are saying.  There is an agreement that was paid for and signed off on, so simply saying it was just a "guest" membership, which don't exist, is simply not true.  This member used the gym all the way into Jan of 2018 and went past due in Dec of 2017 so the statement they had been trying to cancel the memberships is again not true.  I provided usage and the facts of the agreement.  There is not much more I can say.  I'm sorry this member is so upset but we are simply following the agreement that was entered into.

Dear [redacted],
In response to the complaint of one (assignment ID of [redacted]),
Gym Membership started August 17, 2012
Gym Membership Expired on August 17, 2013
Transferred to Louisiana on December 18, 2012
The member came into Anytime Fitness on January 14, 2014 and spoke with our Co-Manager [redacted]. The member stated that [redacted] Financial (a company who is in charge of our finances) was calling him saying that he owed money to Anytime Fitness. He never specified which location or have any idea which location he owed money to. The member had no idea that his club membership was transferred to [redacted] Louisiana Anytime Fitness. Gym memberships transfer locations once the member has majority of his key scans at that gym. The member had been going to [redacted] Louisiana Anytime Fitness for some time for his membership to be transferred. On December 18, 2012 his account was transferred to [redacted] which is Cut Off Louisiana(which is in the [redacted] notes I have provided you). Since September 2012 [redacted] Financial actually had been calling him because his card was expired and needed to be updated, (I have attached all. the notes that were taken by [redacted] Financial). On January 14, 2014 when [redacted] helped the member by looking up his account online he saw that the $389.28 in question was the remaining balance. [redacted] charged the $389.28 and I posted it the following day. The member was still calling Portland Tx Anytime Fitness saying [redacted] says he still owes money. I had told him that everything was taken care of on our end and I would look into why [redacted] Financial was still calling him. On January 23, 2014 he called again saying [redacted] was still calling him. When he told me [redacted] said he owed [redacted] Louisiana I called [redacted] Louisiana. The member did ask why he owed [redacted] Louisiana and I told him because his card expired and 1 told him that [redacted] does call you to inform you of that. I informed him that when his credit card was expired in September 2012 that [redacted] called him regarding that issue. He said that he never received any of those calls. Which in fact he did as stated in [redacted] Financials notes in September 2012. He told me that he started to file a complaint with the Revdex.com and that if I resolved the issue he would drop the Revdex.com complaint. I spoke with a worker over at [redacted] Louisiana that had just started working there, She said she logged onto [redacted] Financial and saw that the member owed $189 and asked me how to handle the situation. I told her that he needed to pay the $189 so [redacted] can clear his account. I walked her through the steps of taking payment and how to post the payment. [redacted] Financial then called the Portland location and needed to speak with [redacted] who is the manager of the [redacted] Anytime Fitness and [redacted] also oversees Our Portland location. [redacted] Financial explained to [redacted] that the $389,28 didn't need to be collected because that was his remaining balance not the money that he was past due on. [redacted] then called me and told me the situation, and I then called the member right away. I told him how sorry we were and that it was an oversight on our end due to the fact that we didn't know his gym membership was transferred. I then told him that I would refund the $389.28 back to his card. He couldn't come to the gym so I took his card number over the phone and the refund was completed. I then told him again sorry for the inconvenience and that the $389.28 was refunded; Brand said ok and hung up on me. He wanted us to put the balance he owed towards the [redacted] Location and we cannot do that. That is why I refunded the whole amount of $389.28. I can't take a payment at our location and transfer it to the other gym in Cut Off. It is a separate entity and must be taken care of at the location. I have attached all the documents which included a copy of the refunded $389.28 and any notes from [redacted] financial. The notes from [redacted] financial are from the Portland location only. Any past due notices or phone message notes from [redacted] financial regarding [redacted] Louisiana must be obtained from [redacted] Louisiana Anytime Fitness,

My Membership was revoked because the owner didn't like my review of their gym. They went out of their way to call me and yell at me. This is the worst customer service experience I have ever received.

[redacted] and his girlfriend were members of Anytime Fitness.  He called and requested to have his membership frozen.  When the freeze came off in November, he was...

billed in November, December, and January.  He didn't remember this.  I sent him 1 months payment as a effort at compromising.  In a resent conversation he now admits this. That he was not billed the money he is claiming.  I'm not sure what his issues are now that he has been told to bring us any evidence that he has (bank records, etc.) and we will make it right.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me.  I will wait until for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.
Only one thing I'd like to provide: I cancelled the service one Nov 1 instead of Nov 30 as the reply from the company mentioned.Regards,[redacted]

The member was contacted because her payment had not been entered into our billing system. She explained that she had made her payment on time. Once the club manager looked into the billing, he found that the member had made the payment on time. We called the member back and explained that it was a...

mistake on the part of our billing company. We also left a voicemail and sent a letter to give the member a free month to use the gym for the inconvenience that was caused. The member did not return our attempts to contact her. We therefore cancelled out the members account with no further payments due. The billing company, ABC Financial, nor Anytime Fitness will not contact the member in the future. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope this resolves the issue. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions, comments, or concerns.

Mr. [redacted]Re: Anytime Fitness complaint [redacted]Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this complaint from one of our members.First let me say that Anytime Fitness is a business reliant upon the sale of memberships and dependent upon our members to fulfill their contractual obligations....

This is standard business practice – no company could survive long-term if contracts were simply walked away from.  It is unfortunate that this matter has reached your office because we did our best to resolve the matter by offering what I consider a fair compromise – a severely reduced cancellation charge. According to the contract she signed, this member is obligated to pay the full amount remaining on her contract: $649.87 + GST. Anytime Fitness offered to reduce that to $250.Anytime Fitness offers a variety of memberships, ranging from a month-to-month plan to the 18-month contract that this member chose. As the contract clearly states there are three ways for members to cancel: within 10 days of signing a contract; if they relocate more than 25 kilometres away from the facility; or the member encounters a medical problem. None of those apply in this case.  The member, who elected to sign a long-term deal instead of a short-term one, simply wants to quit her obligation, with no reason given. She has obviously does not understand the contract when she says membership can be cancelled with 30-day notice. That applies ONLY to renewal terms and in her case that would come into effect May 15, 2018, when the contract, if not renewed, would revert to a monthly term. The $50 cancellation fee she refers to is effective ONLY if the member moves 25 kilometres away from the club, which she did not. This is clearly stated on the contract.  She refers to our cancellation policy of $250 + GST not being stated anywhere on the contract - that is because it is a legally binding contract and she is responsible for 100 per cent of the fees. The $250 cancellation policy is not stated in the contract because the true cancellation policy with Anytime Fitness requires full payment of the contract. That means she would have $649.87+GST left on her membership.  Realizing that would place an unfair burden upon members wishing to leave the club, and being an independently owned franchise we tailored our cancellation policies slightly within guidelines of the Anytime Fitness franchise. We requested Anytime Fitness to reduce our cancellation policy to $250.00 instead of the full amount because we wanted to have some more leniency with our members in the event they needed to cancel. With that being said, we do as part of the franchise have the right to collect the full $649.87+GST in this case, but we choose not to and offer our reduced cancellation policy instead. It is clearly stated in the contact that “unless cancelled as provided in this agreement, MEMBER will be responsible for all payments due and owing under this Agreement, even if MEMBER does not use the Club's facilities and services.”If anyone could cancel on 30 days notice without having to honour their contract, then why would we provide different price points for longer commitments? She made the decision to choose our 18-month contract option at $49.99, instead of the month-to-month option at $64.99. It was her choice to do the 18-month contract to make monthly payments cheaper, and therefore locking her into the contract.Aside from all of that we would encourage her to remain with us instead of cancelling, as we view the $250.00 as a 'waste' of money when it could be used towards paying the regular membership fees as she set out intending to do.We would also be more than happy to offer her some free online coaching to provide some assistance in her workouts.Thank you Matthew K[redacted] [redacted] [redacted] [redacted]

I did some further research regarding [redacted] account. The collection agency has informed me that his account information was never reported to any of the credit bureau's. As of this point we have taken him out of collections and there will be no further charges. We have re-checked our files but do not have any registered mail regarding his account at the [redacted] location. If you need further information from our collection agency I can give you a name to contact.Scott

This member's membership was terminated upon the proper cancel obligations by the member as per the signed membership agreement.  The member firmly stated that...

she would contact the Revdex.com and anyone else until she received refund.  As a business, we can not deviate from company policy and legal practice to accomade this member's request.  This member continues to try escalate this matter by making false statements about the best practices of this business.
The matter was resolved in a professional legal manner as obligated by the business and we do not wish to engage in any further discussions regarding this matter.

I had switched clubs as I moved from Rosemount MN to River Falls WI. I enjoyed the anytime club in MN but the River Falls club was a disappointment. The equipment is always filled up and there are no classes like at the Rosemount location. When I started up they did not make it clear it was a 18 month contract. The only ways to get out of the contract is to have a doctors note saying you cannot work out, or move to a location that is more than 50 miles from an anytime fitness. I switched locations and am no longer getting the service I used to have at the Rosemount location. I would think that is ground to cancel a contract. Poor service and no way to get out of it.
