Our records show we (DTE Energy) have contacted Ms. [redacted] on numerous occassions regarding her concerns about our Smart Metering program.   A manager from the AMI Dept. also met with Ms. [redacted], at her home, on 01/28/2015 to further discuss.  In addition, the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) responded to her concerns on 01/28/2015.
Ms. [redacted] was provided thorough information regarding our Smart Metering program and our Opt Out policy.   Due to resolution provided by the MPSC, our office considers this case closed....Thanks

DTE called me shortly after I filed the complaint and said they were assigning the case to another employee who would contact me in order to resolve the issue and issue me a check. I have not been contacted by them or received reimbursement.

In response to [redacted]'s reply to you: Per my original complaint, you will see that the meter was only tested once, and the meter checker CONFIRMED with me that the meter had major issues, and was not reading correctly. I was there, observing while he tested. DTE ignored this man's report to me and told me that they didn't care if my bill was up to 10x that of my neighbors'. I asked DTE repeatedly to come back and test it again, but they refused. I repeatedly asked for this to be checked over the two year period that I lived at the address in the complaint. They repeatedly refused. My bill, again, was consistently MUCH higher than all of my neighbors in the same building, and higher than the highest bills that the management at the complex had ever received themselves. I lived in the smallest apartment, by myself, rarely using any electricity outside of normal appliances (refrigerator, tv, lamps). One of the management at the time reported to me that she lived in their largest apartment, with 3 other people, and her DTE bills were far lower than mine. I have NEVER, neither before nor after living at the location in my complaint, had an electric bill from DTE anywhere near the size of what they were trying to charge me at this location. My DTE bills before living at that location were around $40 or less per month. Likewise, where I live now, my DTE bills are between $30 and $40/month, a small fraction of what they were trying to charge me at the complaint location. Further, DTE is trying to treat the service in my current location (Troy, MI) as if it is the same account from the [redacted] location in the complaint, and consistently charging me late fees of up to $30 every month on top of these overcharges from the former location, threatening to turn off the electricity in my current location, despite it being paid IN FULL every month with no issues. They are to separate these two accounts and keep them separate. I've filed a formal complaint with the AG Consumer's Division and the MPSC to review DTE's conduct in this matter, and determine whether criminal activity on their part is prosecutable by them. If they aren't able to prosecute, I will be having my attorneys file suit against them for not just the amount that they claim I owe, but we will go back over the bills from the full 2 year period at this location and determine how much was overpaid compared to what would be considered reasonable, and sue for damages on top of that.
