Regards,
David [redacted]Briggs & Stratton states in its response that if the engine failure was caused by lack of maintenance then it will not be covered under a warranty repair.  BS is missing the point.  I do not dispute that there was no oil in the engine as told to me by the warranty repair center.  However, I had just added oil the previous time I used it.  Therefore, something caused the oil to leak out.  Lawnmowers, especially ones that are only several months old, do not use that much oil.

Mr. [redacted] continues to request monetary compensation siting the difference between his previous Troy-Bilt pressure washer which cost $279 and his current Husqvarna pressure washer which cost $411 (prices quoted per the customer's initial phone call to Briggs & Stratton).  He is not comparing like units.   The Troy-Bilt pressure washer is a 2-wheeled unit with a 25 ft. 1/4" high pressure hose and a 0.3 gallon fuel tank.  The Husqvarna pressure washer is a larger unit that has 4 wheels, a heavy duty 40 ft. 5/16" high pressure hose and 3 gallon fuel tank.  These are only some of the differences.  Briggs & Stratton will not be offering any monetary compensation.

The customer was contacted and will be shipped a replacement pressure washer.  Inquiry has been resolved.

Not a warranty repair - reimbursed customer as good will concession

The authorized Briggs & Stratton warranty dealer performed a complete cause of failure analysis on the engine.  They found no manufacturing defects or signs of oil leakage.  The engine seized due to failure of multiple bearing surfaces which indicates that the engine was run with insufficient lubrication over a period of time.

Briggs & Stratton has authorized complete cause of failure analysis - if manufacturing defect is found then engine will be repaired under warranty, if cause of failure is due to lack of maintenance then this will not be a warranty repair.

The reason being the snow thrower in front of no-less then 3 different people as witness was stalling and shutting off the moment you engaged it into the snow. The engine starts and runs poorly but it is not until you put it into the snow and attempt to use it for its purpose does if stall and die out,... for you to then have to restart the machine. Briggs and Stratton is highly-highly dishonest and deceptive and they knew and it is know their engine catching on fire and tried to down play the issue.YOUR SHOULD NOT HAVE BLACK SOOT coming out of your machine!!!!!Their service center did not have the conditions of this past snow storm to put the machine under ANY of the conditions it is intend for and they know this.Their statement that the machine is fine is compete and total DISHONEST.I personally at my cost clear the snow for 8 of my elderly Neighbors WITHOUT charge to them and if needed will and can have them all sign a letter stating how this Briggs and Stratton machine stalls and stops the moment you put it in the snow to clear,..... SO THE SO CALLED FIX of the engine NOT CATCHING ON FIRE when it is in use may been done,.... but the engine staling and stopping under its intended snow removal load was NOT AS PERSONALLY WITNESSED by my elderly Neighbors!Furthermore Briggs and Stratton knew they were selling a defective engine for years in where fire would come out of the carburetor and engine area. This FACT is well documented and there was a class action taken against them for this. I showed the tech that came to pick up the machine how there is BLACK SOOT residue when you run your fingers by the muffler and carburetor a FACT I am sure they did not disclose and tell you. YOUR SHOULD NOT HAVE BLACK SOOT!!!!!Briggs and Stratton KNOWINGLY put me like so many other people in a positions that when we needed the machine for its intended purpose and in the middle of a snow storm to NOT have a reliable working machine designed for its purpose, AND DID SO AGAIN JUST NOW!!!That is grossly UNETHICAL and calling around to other of their service centers the reps outwardly speak of and talk how horrific Briggs and Stratton is in this way!!

The response from the company is unacceptable. I was contacted by a representative from the company yesterday evening. We did not agree on anything. She stated she would send some "fuel stabilizer to me". I have been using fuel stabilizer for years. I use "Sta bil". I replace the fuel for mower use once per month. Gasoline with ethanol has a 90 usability period. I also empty the mowers of fuel and start them until they no longer run. There is nothing further I can do stop this clear manufacturer defect. This mower has a plastic carburator bowl that evidently holds fluid even after the mower can no longer obtain gas to run. That is a clear defect. I also informed the person who contacted me that the repair facility told me and I quote "Murray mowers are a piece of crap and these are throw away mowers" You must say that phrase with a clear southern/country drawl.Without question, this is the absolute worse mower I have ever purchased. With Tecumseh, Ariens, Honda, and Kohler products out there, I will take my business elsewhere. I will also pass along my complaint to message boards and internet sites that field complaints concerning murray mowers and even the press if necessary. I am clearly not alone with this issue and perhaps a class action suit is what this company needs. With a simple Google search, thousands of other users have the same or similar starting problems that I am having with this mower. I did not do my due diligence in researching this before I bought the mower because I bought it based upon prior reputation. I will not make that mistake again.I would also invite you to do a simple You Tube search on that particular series of engines. They are so bad there is a tutorial video on how to remove the carburator and clean it out due to the non-starting issue. Honestly, that mower is simply not even worth the trouble.I am not holding my breath about the fuel stabilizer either as she never confirmed my address. Their customer service as far as I am concerned is worthless as well as their mowing product.I do not accept their response and never will.

Replacement engine approved at no cost to customer

This incident was resolved 8/24/15. The equipment was repaired at no cost to the Consumer. Customer has picked up the equiptment.-- [redacted]

Briggs & Stratton warranty covers manufacturing defects for 2 years from the date of purchase.  The ignition coil was replaced under warranty in Dec 2014.  The mower was taken into service on 28 May 2016, the warranty dealer states that the engine was over-filled with oil. The excess...

oil was drained and the carburetor was cleaned.  This was a maintenance issue and not a warranty repair.

Briggs and Stratton contacted me today and have agreed to send me a new peer washer. Please keep the dispute open until I actually receive it. Thank you for your help. Regards,[redacted]
