Capella University Reviews (255)

I am rejecting this response because: the facts presented are not true. 1- I did in fact send them in I was informed of wasn't received. By the time I realized it wasn't processed I was informed I'm too late and if I did it it wouldn't make a difference. I submotted a form and a letter from my employer. 2 the financial aid office will not let me back in unless I pat the whole balance which I can't do in one lump sum sir. I was informed by customer service as long as I filled out my fasfa by 6/1 I would be fine. However I was locked out before then 4 I am requesting transcripts of all calls made by me. I can go back in my records and show you when I sent documents and how capella dropped the ball.

I am rejecting this response because:
The professor did not accuse me of academic dishonesty in as form of plagiarism but as my own work it was as a retaliation due to my complaint about him and my request to have another mentor.  After I was granted a new mentor he went back and accused me of using my own work that he reviewed and told me to submit in the assignment area (I have the message from him basically instructing me to submit it). This is a working paper that has been part of my dissertation proposal and he was well aware that the studies I'm using will be part of my dissertation which was properly cited.  He decided to go back and accuse me of academic dishonesty 3-weeks after he already graded me for the course which as a fail because I requested a new mentor.  Anyhow, I've been sending emails with no response from the University as to when I will hear back from the committee on this appeal I submitted nearly 6-months ago. Now I'm being indirectly threaten to be kicked out of the university? This has been the most unjust experience I've ever experienced and because I'm a minority there is nothing I can do about it right Capella? Is he not a mentor and his responsibility would be for him to take part of any issue regarding academic dishonesty (i.e. telling me to submit a paper that could be considered "academic dishonesty)? Also Capella's policy is to look into the facts regarding such an issue (i.e. did the student willingly submit such a paper knowing that they were in a violation)>?  What Dr. [redacted] did to me is basically entrapment and I would find it unacceptable for the University to even consider reviewing his claim. I have more attachments but I'm unable to upload anymore...

I am rejecting this response because:

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (2000, 7, 2015/12/03) */

I am rejecting this response because:Capella University is trying to cover up the fact they made a mistake. I did disclose the fact I attended another school because I had to send in verification documents of every school I attended before any aid would be awarded to me. My financial aid was flagged and Capella University knows this so they are lying when they state I did not disclose this to them because I did. I had to in order to receive aid.  Also if I was awarded too much aid for spring term that I am not even taking because I’m still in winter term why did I just receive another loan from the DOE but Capella kept the funds. This school is a rip off and I refuse to sit back and be one of their victims!!

Please see the attached response.

As the consumer has not stated a reason for the rejection of this offer, at the suggestion of our Revdex.com Mediation Coordinator we will wait for instruction on next steps.

I am rejecting this response because Capella has never addressed its problems. This entire issue began from the very beginning of my experience with Capella. Capella has NEVER EVER accepted any responsibility for the lack of tutors for Stats the FIRST and SECOND time I took it.  The delay led to all the problems since.  The FLEX PROGRAM was rolled out before it was ready, I believed. I think it would behoove the Revdex.com to find out how many people took and passed the Gen. Psych Flex program in its entirety during the time time I enrolled with my first class with Capella. It was glitchy and slow and delayed my progress, but Inferential Stats was what really sent my whole program into a tail spin.  I had a limited window of time to complete my Masters before relatives in my life were going to need caregiving. I was assured there were tutors, SMOOTH RUNNNING websites, and there was no reason someone of my intellect and proven academic history could not complete it in a timely manner. I pointed out the programs' problems regularly, but foolishly kept hoping it would get better.PLEASE NOTE that I was REJECTED from the FLEX PATh program, but Capella took LONGER THAN THEY PROMISED to address my grievances. I have the dates and records. THE DELAY AND DENY tactics holds students of good will and ability to be stuck into the program longer. I can only presume this is to make more money. I am shocked at the shoddiness I found from a REGIONALLY ACCREDITED institution. Attached is an explanation and some artifacts of many I have, to point out problems.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/07/12) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I dont understand why I have to fill out a form to have my issued resolved. Someone needs to call me like I was originally told to have this matter resolved.
Final Consumer Response /* (3000, 19, 2015/08/12) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
This response is unacceptable. Not once did I hide that I was receiving tuition assitance. I submitted the forms to let the school know because I have no problem in repoorting it if I am receiving it. The problem is my employer offers employees up to $5250 a year in tuition assistance, Capella is reporting me at $9,000 for the year. I was told by a Capella representative to submit multiple tuition forms and thats what has caused the confusion. A representative told me to report I was receivng the full $5250 even though I had'nt receive the amount to get my account straight. This has caused so much trouble and I am not withdrawing from the institution for there poor practices with students!
Final Business Response /* (4000, 23, 2015/08/25) */
A senior expert with Capella University's financial aid office reached out to the learner on 8/14 to provide assistance regarding resolving this matter, and has also sent information specific to the learner's situation while continuing to offer assistance. The learner is urged to respond to this outreach. I do apologize for the frustration experienced by the learner. However, Capella's financial aid office continues to stand ready to help.
Best wishes,

November 9, 2016   To whom it may concern:            This letter is in response to Ms. [redacted]’ complaint #[redacted]. Ms. [redacted]’ complaint centers around the disbursement of her financial aid and the current balance remaining on her account due to dropping her courses.               We apologize if Ms. [redacted] finds our resolution unsatisfactory, but the balance due on her account is based upon overlapping loan periods and federal financial aid regulations for Title IV funding. Of the current balance on her account of $4,350.00 for two billing sessions, we will credit one billing session in the amount of $2,175.00. Ms. [redacted] will still be responsible for resolving the remaining $2175.00 balance for her previous billing session. Please feel free to reach out with any additional questions or concerns.   Regards,   Joe [redacted] Learner Affairs Associate Learner Services & Operations (LSO)                 Toll Free: 1.888.CAPELLA (###-###-####) Fax: ###-###-#### E-mail: Joseph.[redacted]@capella.edu

I am rejecting this response because:
Mr. [redacted] is twisting the facts in this case for their own benefit. I was seeking advice from Matt [redacted], my tutor, because of this special situation I was going through.  This is on his own words: "I have placed a pause on your auto-registration so that nothing further will register for you when you complete BUS-FP3012". That is very clear to me that I won’t get registered any more. Then he gave instructions on how to discontinue from the university. Therefore, I waited thinking that I was fine based on Matt’s information. When I got the $2200 bill (on 10/11/16), I went back and ask why I was being charged and he changed to: "I did place a pause on your account so nothing further started when you completed BUS-FP3012, however when you completed the course we were already well into the new billing session.” Why he didn’t tell me that when on 9/30/2016? I could have continued at the university for another session. By this time all my options were gone because I was already two weeks after the classes started. Therefore, what is the function of a tutor, isn't it for helping the students? Or do they just want to mislead them so the university makes more money? If I cannot trust the tutor, who can help us? The other issue is with the different schedules they have. There is a billing session, academic calendar, and course dates, which makes a very confusing situation. I spent a couple of days looking for information on the schedules and on the data, that I gathered, I thought I was on track, but still I asked Matt just to make sure, and unfortunately he gave me the wrong information.[redacted]

March 7, 2017   To whom it may concern:            This letter is in response to Mrs. [redacted]’s complaint #[redacted]. The nature of Ms. [redacted]’s complaint is in regard the remaining balance due on her account from the Spring 2015 term.               In response to Ms. [redacted]’s rejection of our response, we are attaching a screen shot showing that she dropped her course on 5/3/2015. Ms. [redacted] would have been required to drop her course prior to 4/24/2015 to be eligible for any refund of the course charge for the Spring 2015 term. In addition; there were outreach attempts from our advising team on 4/3/15, 4/21/15, and 4/23/15 with no response from Ms. [redacted]. Instead of dropping her course prior to the drop date, she dropped after her financial aid and refund disbursed to her account on 4/29.               We apologize for any hardship or confusion this situation has caused Ms. [redacted], but the balance that is due to Capella is a result of her not completing enough of her course to earn all of her financial aid. We encourage Ms. [redacted] to continue working with our business office to arrange a suitable payment plan if she is unable to resolve the balance all at once, but we will not be taking any action to reduce the amount due on her account due to dropping after the drop deadline. Please feel free to reach out with any additional questions or concerns.   Regards,   Joe [redacted] Learner Affairs Associate Learner Services & Operations (LSO)                 Toll Free: 1.888.CAPELLA (###-###-####) Fax: ###-###-#### E-mail: Joseph.[redacted]@capella.edu

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/12/07) */

I filled out the FERPA form online. If it was not done correctly I would like Capella to email me the correct form. Email is [redacted]@uj.edu
Final Consumer Response /* (3000, 15, 2015/12/11) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Mr. [redacted] is referring to the wrong tuition credit form. I submitted another one in August of 2015. I stated August in my complaint so I am not sure why [redacted] referenced the one from May. Being that I continued to have issues, I discussed the content of the August complaint with my Advisor Mr. Jeff [redacted], he suggested I fill out the tuition credit request form again, which I did. Per his instruction I emailed it to him to forward to the correct office/individual. Again this was mentioned in my complaint so I am not sure why Mr [redacted] ignored that. Attached is that form, it was submitted to Jeff [redacted] on August 15, 2015 via email. I also contacted Jeff by email asking for updates but he did not reply.

To whom it may concern:
This letter is in response to Ms. Deborah [redacted]'s complaint from case #[redacted] submitted on 12/4/2015. Ms. [redacted] is claiming that her tuition request was ignored and that she should be due a tuition credit based upon extra time and money that was spent to complete her program.
We apologize for any confusion, but the previously referenced credit request was the only one that was examined for Ms. [redacted]. Examining her entire account and situation with her dissertation, we cannot find any reason why there would be cause to offer her a tuition credit. The dissertation support team examined the work she did with her mentor and found no error on Capella's part that caused an extension of her program that would justify a request for a tuition credit.
We apologize for any undue hardship or stress that this situation may have caused Ms. [redacted], and if the information regarding her credit request denial was not clearly expressed. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or concerns.

November 8th, 2017   To whom it may concern:            This letter is in response to Ms. Bianca [redacted] complaint #12409662. The nature of Ms. [redacted] complaint is that she was dropped from her course and now owes a balance to the university.               Ms. [redacted] was enrolled in PSY7620 – Inferential Statistics in the Summer 2015 term as part of her MS in Psychology program. The course began on July 13th of 2015, and Ms. [redacted] initially and last participated in the course on July 19th of 2015. Although Ms. [redacted] stated she was unaware that her CogBooks communications were not considered participation, university policy specifically designates ongoing course participation as “the submission and completion of grade-eligible courseroom activities throughout the duration of the course.” (University Policy 2.02.02 – Course Registration) Additionally; Ms. [redacted] had been enrolled in three previous quarters prior to the Summer of 2015, and was aware of the course participation requirements in each of those terms. After Ms. [redacted] did not participate in her course for 28 consecutive days, she was dropped from her course and financial aid was returned to the Department of Education in accordance with Return of Title IV (R2T4) regulations.             We apologize for any hardship this situation may have caused Ms. [redacted], but the balance on her account is due to not participating in her course as is defined by university policy. There is no evidence to suggest Ms. Was not fully aware that the CogBooks communication with her instructor was eligible as course participation. We encourage Ms. [redacted] to contact our business office regarding the past due balance currently on her account.. I am rejecting this response because:
They are certainly generous with other peoples’ money, especially the US Department of Education. In my case, Capella is trying to defraud me because a computer was necessary for admission that they implied was a promotional offer and would be refunded upon purchase. I relied on that even though they don't admit it now. They deceived me and confused me with changing expensive degree programs for which I was unqualified by their own admission policy.  Plus, the Federal government was the lender and my balance with them is zero only because I threatened to complain to their Ombudsman. If Capella continues without satisfactory Revdex.com settlement of discontinuing collection, a formal complaint will be filed in Pennsylvania under the Unfair Trade Practices & Consumer Protection Law, and a complaint with the Minnesota Attorney General for fraud. Finally, if they do report this to any credit bureau, a complaint will be filed with the Federal Trade Commission that handles these kinds of collection disputes. yours truly, [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:
I will need to print, fill out and fax the form which was sent to me. I am at work but will try to take care of it today
