Shaking my head.
I have a 2014 GMC Terrain SLE in excellent condition with my maintaining the care of it on time and regularly scheduled. I purchased the "top of the line" CarShield contract in November of 2024. Never used the contract, but my regular service mechanic at Sullivan GMC states that they do not honor CarShield. Sullivan GMC told me that CarShield never answers the phone, never calls back and will not honor the CarShield contract. I looked on CarShield website for another participating mechanic in my area, the website did not produce another participating facility. I contacted CarShield to cancel my contract due to these circumstances. Brandy at CarShield stated she could give me another local participating mechanic, but the only one within 20 miles was a very poor review and a friend told me stay away from them, they are awful and take forever to even attempt repairs.
As I said, I have not used the warranty, I have only done research to find another mechanic after Sullivan GMC stated the negative interface with CarShield and denied coverage payment IF my vehicle ever needed any repairs.
I was told that I could expect a refund from CarShield for November, December, January and February payments (minus an administrative cost) since I could not and did not use the warranty service. Brandy offered no information as to this refund.
Stay away from a CarShield warranty because they won't honor service contracts.

Carshield failed me when I needed them most.
Carshield failed me when I needed them most.
I signed up with Carshield about two years ago. Now I have my first and only claim and Carshield would not pay for the repairs ($3500) for rear bearings, muffler and exhaust pipe. This is a big expense for me and this is the reason for Carshield warranty. But I guess they got my money I got nothing when I needed them most. I cancelled the policy and got a better warranty provider for the same cost.

+1

Not answering my calls anymore
I purchased the warranty from this company on 9/3/2020. My car broke down on 9/23/20. I had it towed to the dealership and they told me I needed a new motor. I filed a claim for the repair. Carshield denied the claim stating there were pre-existing conditions. They are refusing to refund my money, fix my vehicle or talk to me. They are not answering my calls anymore. I purchased the car as-is and that's why I purchased this warranty. They are also refusing to speak to the dealership. They told me that they cover everything. They took a payment out of my account on 10/6.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: They have not given me me an actual dollar amount of the refund. They never sent an adjuster out to look at the car. Also, based on their own specifications, I am well within the scope of being able to use the policy to repair my car. They continue to pull money out of my account, and it is impossible to return money to my card because it is an express card from Social Security.

Sincerely

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Sincerely

I purchased my Carshield warranty less than 30 days after I purchased the vehicle. I put over $2,500 into the car for routine maintenance prior to my warranty purchase. on 7/26 I purchased my warranty. I had no issues with my vehicle whatsoever. On about 8/29 I noticed a little smoke coming from may tailpipe. I imm/ediately called carshield and asked what my next steps would be. Since I just purchased the vehicle I took it to the dealership on 8/31 as to avoid any issues with repairs or certified technicians. After a few days I got the results of my engine diagnostic back and they recommended a new engine. I informed the technician I had carshield and it was a complete disaster from that point on.

It was supposed to be up to 48 hrs for them to send out a claims adjuster it took 4 days. No biggie. After that there was nothing. My tech and Chevy reached out on numerous occasions to get the ball rolling on the repair which the adjuster told him "Is a covered repair we just have to get it approved". After over a week talking with my tech and nothing from Carshield at all not an email phone call nothing about my claim or warranty. MY tech called and told me that they needed to look deeper into the issue and asked him to look into the engine with a bore scope. My tech did that the very next day sent on the pics and sent me confirmation. 5 days later nothing. So I called carshield/american auto shield again and was told that they never received the images from the bore scope. So I called my tech and had him resend them. He sent me another confirmation.

About a week after that I got a text from my tech stating "Call carshield directly they are trying to deny your claim and they have no reason to." He said they were denying the repair because of a worn piston ring.

I was naturally confused mainly because no one said anything to me. You would think the company that I actually pay on a monthly basis would be the ones to reach out to me but no. So I called them and was bounced around from person to person to no avail. Everyone kept giving me the same answer and I spoke with 7 different people within the company. The answer I continued to receive was that the adjuster has final say and it is not reversible. Piston rings are not covered under the warranty. To all of whom I began to point out the exceptions to the exclusions of piston rings being covered and no one was willing to address that one fact the only thing they all told me was the only way to overturn an adjusters decision is to go thru the Revdex.com and/ thru their send in an email to their personal claims department.

Here are the reasons stated in my contract why my repair should be covered based on my contract and not off an adjusters opinion:

1) If you go to Google and type in Carshield Powertrain Silver coverage the first result will be a PDF, which is a sample of the contract that I purchased, The top of that page says "Powertrain Silver Coverage (Named Component Coverage)" below that it states "These Parts ARE Covered". Engine: All internally lubricated parts including PISTONS and PISTON RINGS. This is taken directly from carshields website here's the link:
***) In my actual signed contract it states All internally lubricated parts within the engine.

2) Sec. D-2t states " The following items are NOT covered by this contract: Mechanical breakdown or failure that occurs as to gradual loss of performance and has resulted from normal operation and use (Due to vehicle mileage and/or age) such as but not limited to: valve guides, valves, PISTON RINGS, transmission clutch pack discs and bands. UNLESS WORN BEYOND MANUFACTURER TOLERANCES.
a) Obviously this wasn't a gradual loss of performance nor from normal operation or use because there should be multiple worn rings if that were the case. And also obvious that the piston rings are worn beyond manufacturer tolerances seeing as my technician work at Sands Chevrolet which is the vehicle manufacturer and he informed them that they are worn beyond tolerance which means this should be covered. My case is the exception to this piston ring exclusion.

3) Sec. D-11 states : "The following items are NOT covered by this contract: The repair or replacement of valves and/or PISTON RINGS for the purpose of raising the engine's compression or correcting oil consumption, sticking or stuck rings, when mechanical breakdown or failure has NOT occurred, including when such condition results from excessive carbon buildup."
a) Mechanical failure/Breakdown has occurred. Excessive carbon buildup is a result of piston ring failure no the cause of the mechanical breakdown or failure nor the cause of the worn piston ring. Since Mechanical Failure/Breakdown has occurred my case is the exception to this exclusion as well. And this repair should be covered.

I have been over a month without my vehicle and after the poor customer knowledge of contracts and sub par customer service I finally gave in to file a complaint with the Revdex.com. I have the names and dated for most of the employees I spoke with, some actually attempted to help but most were dismissive. One even accused me on a recorded line of trying to get a free repair out of the company and he was a senior adjuster within the company I have him as well as his supervisors name as well who refused to speak with me on a recorded line. I informed them that I would no longer continue paying a company for a service that refuses to honor terms of the contract. I'm not making anything up it's all there in black and white. I have missed work my kids have missed doctors appointments I've missed new job opportunities as well as the window to enroll for my classes all due to this. The warranty is in place to help the customer when something like this happens. Why is this company still in business iff all they do is avoid the responsibility when it arises?

I have an insurance with CarShield and I haven’t made a single claim. I stayed with them for 7 months and already paid $1,268.56 When I asked customer service to refund me my money back they chose not to. I canceled my car protection plan with them because I don’t have the car anymore. Yet they still refused to send me a refund regardless if I didn’t make a claim and it’s wrong. I wouldn’t recommend CarShield to anyone.

Car Shield excepted my car in one of there plans and I paid for it. I have a signed contract saying the car is covered. When I went to make a claim they said my car was to old had to many miles to be covered. I’m now suing them in small claims court to either get my money back or Car Shield to pay for the repair. I don’t care which but if you think they are a good company to deal with you’re greatly mistaken

I have the highest CarShield plan. About 3 weeks ago I brought my car to the dealer only to find out something was wrong so I called CarShield they said the part is covered so I left my car at the dealer thinking CarShield was going to cover the expenses seeing that it is under my plan I pay $130 a month for. My car has been at the dealer for two weeks I’ve been carless taking *** or walking with my daughter the dealer along with myself has contacted CarShield numerous times on the repair and never received a response or call back majority of the time I call get through and get hung up on the dealer was pushing the urgency of fixing my car I continued to call CarShield so did the dealer and still no response or call backs at this point I was annoyed then I received a call back stating my claim was denied due to inaccurate information so I called again left on hold for 45 minutes finally got through I was told I was denied for a reason that was wrong on there part they wrote the odometer number down wrong they then apologized and said it’s a error on there end said it is covered but because they already denied it there was nothing they can do so I’m still carless and had to pay $700 to the dealer for nothing my car is still not fixed and CarShield isn’t helping at all I was told by CarShield the only way to override it is to continue the Revdex.com so I’m doing so my car is my way to work and without I have no way I work over an hour away from home I even asked if they can pay half and I pay the other half they said no because it was already denied on an error on there end and claimed my repair was preexisting which the dealer sent proof the it was recent and yet I was still denied I DONT see what I’m paying monthly for if they are no help and contacting CarShield is the worst I just want my car repaired and the repair is covered under my plan

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

it makes no sense I have a printed reading on any issue with my car the issue was not preexisting at all they have the odometer reading wrong and I have a recording of them apologizing for getting the odometer reading wrong on the contract he also laughed and said the number doesn’t have to be exact once I said my car reads 93,305 not 95. I offered to pay half and the pay the other half but seeing that the repair is covered under my contact I don’t see why I’m paying at all I have already paid the dealer $700 towards some of the repair I still can not drive the vehicle it needs a camshaft which is covered under the contract I am paying for. CarShield has admitted to the odometer error on there part so my repair should indeed be paid under my contract

I bought a contract with carshield as soon as bought my 2013 honda pilot only 4 months ago .just 2 weeks ago I had to have my power steering, timimg belt and a wheel bearing fixed when the dealership called to get approval none of it was covered. When I went back to my contacts which was the Gold plan it clearly stated that both the timing belt and pump was covered and they denied my work. They didn't not refund any of my payments or offer anything to help the situation which was unfair and against my contract coverage. I spent over 400$ for the Gold Plan and then I had to spend over 700$ out of pocket to have it fixed because they told me it wasn't covered. I immediately called and tried to cancel the plan and the customer service representative tried to argue with me and tell me I needed to keep the plan it would help in the long run . I repeatedly told her to cancel it and finally after 4 times she told me she canceled it. I am soo angry about the amount of money I spent just to have them deny my work.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

The worst decision I ever made was to buy policies with this company; best decision I ever made was to cancel them. Wish I had done it a year ago -- or better still, that I had NEVER bought them to begin with! This company cost me thousands of dollars in premiums, and when I finally needed them, they only paid me a small fraction of my repair bill. I paid 6 months' worth of premiums up front in a lump sum for two cars, and thereafter they deducted almost $200/month in premiums from my checking account -- but every time I called them for a question or a concern, they told me my policies were "backed out" and I had to go through a rigmarole to prove to them that my policies were still in force. LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE TIME! When I finally asked them to cover a repair bill for me, they not only told me again that my policies were "backed out", they told it TWICE to my mechanic when he called to discuss the bill with them. At one point a CSR promised to have a supervisor call me that afternoon, but I never received a call from a supervisor. I called the CSR back the next day to find out why, and she told me there were notes in my file from the supervisor all about the call she had just had with me -- which never took place! And they don't pay you the amount of your bill, they pay you what they THINK you should have been charged by your garage, based on what they claim are national averages. Well, I live in Appalachia, where everything is CHEAP, and they claimed that my bill was almost $100 more than I should have been charged -- so for a $339 bill they only covered $156 of it, after all the premiums I paid them! I wasted THOUSANDS of dollars in premiums on this scam, and I lost it all. Some of the CSR's were nice and tried to help, but the supervisors were either non-responsive or rude. DO NOT BUY POLICIES FROM THIS COMPANY! THEY ARE A BUNCH OF CROOKS! I am only giving Car Shield one star because this site requires me to choose a star rating; if I could I would give them a negative 10 stars!

CarShield's advertising is false. Full stop. They say -- with all of the celebrities they use -- that you can take your car to your dealer for repairs. But that's not true. If you take your car to your dealer your dealer will tell you that they do not accept "after market" parts because they cannot validate the quality of these parts. CarShield then says "well, then, you're on your own. Take your car to a mechanic who does accepts the parts we deem appropriate." I spent an hour today on the phone with a CarShield insurance adjuster who told me that the CarShield "algorithm" searches for the cheapest part on the planet and caps their reimbursement at that price. They will ship the cheap parts to your dealer, but, again, your dealer will not accept after market parts. So you're ***. You either take your car somewhere where they will "fix" your car with cheap parts or you don't get your car fixed. In my case, my car needed repairs to pass inspection. But my dealer would not accept cheap parts, so I had no choice but to pay for the repairs -- nearly $2,000. CarShield would only pay $242 (after my $100 deductible). I was stuck with the rest.
HERE'S THE PROBLEM. I GET THAT INSURANCE COMPANIES WANT TO MAKE AS MUCH MONEY AS THEY CAN. I GET THEY WILL FIND THE LOWEST COST PROVIDER AS THEY CAN AND ONLY PAY FOR THE CHEAPEST GUY ON THE BLOCK. I GET ALL THAT. BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT THE ADVERTISING SAYS. IT SAYS YOU CAN TAKE YOUR CAR TO THE DELAER. THE ADVERTISING SHOULD STATE CLEARLY THAT IF YOU TAKE YOUR CAR TO YOUR DEALER, YOUR DEALER WILL NOT ACCEPT AFTER MARKET PARTS -- THAT YOU WILL BE FORCED TO TAKE YOUR CAR TO JOE MECHANIC WHO WILL ACCEPT AFTER MARKET PARTS. AND, THIS ALSO APPLIES TO SERVICE RATES. WORK ON YOUR CAR IS ALSO SUBJECT TO THE SAME ALGORITHM: IF THE WORK TAKES TOO LONG (ACCORDING ONLY TO CARSHIELD), CARSHIELD WILL NOT PAY.
CARSHIELD NEEDS TO STOP LYING ABOUT ITS COVERAGE. IT WILL NOT REIMBURSE YOUR DEALER FOR WORK, UNLESS YOUR DEALER ACCEPTS AFTER MARKET PARTS AND UNLESS YOUR DEALER WORKS FAST -- NOT MATTER WHAT THE PROBLEM WITH YOUR CAR. Had I known I could not take my car back to the dealer for repairs I would never have purchased this "insurance."
CarShield needs to tell the truth about its coverage. It ONLY covers repairs made by lowest cost mechanics using lowest cost parts THAT CARSHIELD DICTATES. The company needs to tell its insurers and its advertisers the truth -- not lie about being able to take your car to your dealer. THERE SHOULD BE CLEARLY READABLE -- NOT FINE PRINT -- NOTATION TO THIS EFFECT. THEY SHOULD ALSO INSTRUCT THEIR CELEBRITY ADVERTISERS THAT THEY ARE NOT TELLING THE TRUTH. YOU CANNOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO YOUR DEALER -- UNLESS YOU'RE WILLING TO PAY 85% OF THE COST. SOME INSURANCE.
BY THE WAY, THE CARSHIELD REPRESENTATIVE ON THE PHONE WITH ME WAS ANYTHING BUT POLITE. INSTEAD, SHE ARGUED WITH ME THROUGHOUT THE CONVERSATION, INTERRUPTING ME FREQUENTLY ALONG THE WAY. Oh well.

I was contacted by this company on January 28th 2020 from a male salesman telling me about an warranty and he knew all my information. I don’t know if this company records their calls but it would be a good recording of me and him talking. Not only did he know my information but how did he even know I purchased a vehicle at this car dealership in my city he knew the model and the year. I was super confused but he sounded like he knew all about me. I didn’t second guess it because he sounded so convincing. So I looked over my contract and read that $100 warranty within my dealership and I assumed that’s what he was talking about he reassured me it was so I said “ok” and he asked me what could I pay today. I told him I didn’t have much money and I could only pay 99.99 and that was discounted from $120.00. I gave him my H&R Block debit card information and he told me it was to be accruing payment asked if I had a bank account and I told him yes. He assured me again that he won’t charge my card but to have it on file for the next auto payment so I said “ok” again. Never did I second guess it or anything because he knew all my information. I asked him why wasn’t I told about this at the signing of my car contract and he mention that it’s for the warranty on my car so again I was like “ok”. Anyways call ends and they take the payment of 99.99 and the next payment came out of my Wells Fargo bank in Feb 2020 and keeps recurring every month at $99.99 until this month Oct 2020 I called my dealership and told them about removing the warranty and I’m tired of paying the car payment and the warranty on top of it. The dealership told me to come to their office and we can get it done and I sign some papers. I get there we talk and come to find out this warranty isn’t set up with them. They told me I already have a warranty on my car and this was a third party warranty that has nothing to do with them. Well come to find out the dealership included their OWN warranty in my contract that’s included in the car payment I make every month with them not with Carshield. So I called carshield and told them I want to cancel my account and I told them how they scammed me and told me misleading information. I asked the lady how they knew all my information because this was my first time ever purchasing a car in my life and how did they get my number. She said she didn’t know but continued to argued me asking me if my dealership warranty was better than theirs etc. I just told her I don’t know how they can do this to people and lie to get them to purchase their product. I’m going to call again today oct 4, 2020 and see what I can get resolved from them.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

I paid over $450 into a plan. I started reading review's and then decide to try n file a claim that wasn't covered. When I called to cancel claims department people are rude. Why give a company your money to hold every month for car repairs then whenu really need the help they don't help. I told EVERYONE I know with a car not to ever sign up with them.

They lied about fixing the car when I expressed the urgency of it. I made a small mistake that was told again and again that it would not be an issue. When they took the liberty to cancel my contract and the fixing of the car. They basically took the previous months money and did not say they will put it towards the new one or anything.

Customer Response • Oct 05, 2020

The car needs a starter and the turbo system needs to get replaced. The contract was canceled by carshield without asking me. Also, they opened a new contract again without my consent so I sent and email to cancel the new contract and a asked for a refund. I had an issue with my emails and was unable to send it until today. Thank you very much.

I use to always look things up on Revdex.com before purchasing, wish I wouldn't have stopped because I would have seen they had an F rating! I purchased this supplemental insurance and needed to file a claim; I followed the claim and spoke to several people "along the way" - no one told me that I could not have my son tear down the engine and this is the ONLY reason they are denying my claim. I have talked to several different people and each person tells you a different thing. They are connected with American Auto Shield (who I'm filing a complaint against next - they handle the claims for CarShield). I'm not sure I could fit the entire story here but basically, even if you speak to a representative all through the process, no one tells you something is not allowed, so that way they know they can deny your claim and their affiliate did just that...I spent all morning on the phone and finally had enough. Called Customer Service and said fine, give me my money back then! They scammed me and pulled me along and then won't give my money back? It's okay, lesson learned - coverage canceled. If they were real, they would have had three vehicles from us in the long run! Really too much deception to explain on here - they are crooked!!! I feel I did everything I should have and they won't take responsibility to repair my jeep because their employee did not do his job! Or like I said, they're a scam and it wouldn't have mattered what any employee told me? Had the employee told me, I would not have had my son break down the engine and I wouldn't have sent it to the shop! Too bad they don't have enough sense to make this a REAL company, because something like this had potential!!!! And they have their employees doing their dirty work!

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: The auto shop that reviewed the car issues stated that the oil leaks have been well maintained and topped off to the highest levels-(nothing has been done as I've been waiting to see if Car Shield would cover). I"ve been dealing with these claims for over 3 months trying to get car shield to cover the portion of the car this is clearly covered - as an internal lubricated part (the turbos). I've also sent over records of car maintenance check points like oil changes, ect -(for the last 2 years). Maintaining great care of the car. My auto shop has advised them that the turbos are in fact a lubricated part and should be covered. The waste gate is not a covered part (which I understand), but the waste gate is not causing the issues. I've asked for another inspector to review the car and Car Shield has declined. Here notes clearly are inaccurate and needing a second option.

Car Shield is stating that sense this claim was still opened previously, and not closed - that the waste gate was mentioned as "having issues" and sense it wasn't fixed, this is what caused the current problems and again denied the claim. This is untrue and they could not provide records or documentation of any kind. Car Shield keep stating that the waste gate part is what caused the issues. Going back and forward and doing everything they can to not pay out. I've had multiple techs look over the car and all having the same outcome as the Turbos should be covered.

Sincerely

after submitting my claim to this company so my car can get fix, this company wont accept my service records for my car and is being over a week with out this company approving my claim. also Chrysler service department has being providing all the information and paperwork so this can get resolve and this company keeps coming with excuses to resolve the issue. this is a scam, don't do any business with this company

We were waiting on inspection report to get back but there was note from inspection stating they contacted the repair facility and the vehicle was repaired and picked up. American Auto Shield called your repair facility and verified this with them and asked if they would send pictures in of the failed cylinder head. Your repair facility refused to send pictures. Without the pictures, a failure can not be verified and your claim will not move forward.
