CarShield Reviews (%countItem)

In July of 2020 I decided to purchase a new used vehicle. I test drove the issue and had it serviced by the business prior to leaving the facility once I purchased it. The vehicle did not have any issues or problems, the carfax was clean and the history of accidents was clean. The vehicle had 87,000 plus miles on a 2010 model. I decided to purchase CarShield once I returned home with the vehicle. I purchased a contract with Car shield that covered Component groups with coverage; Engine, Transmission, Cooling System, Transfer unit (4x4) Drive Axle, Air Conditioning, Fuel System, Alternator, Starter, Power Window Motors, Seals and Gaskets. I overheard a noise after some time and took the vehicle to my local automotive repair shop. I scheduled the vehicle to have a diagnostic inspection along with the vehicle being serviced. I took the vehicle home and parked it until the following week of August 5th 2020 when my vehicle went into the shop. The service department notified me that my vehicle engine was failing and needed to be replaced. I immediately provided them with my Car shield contract number and asked them to contact Car shield to confirm the repair could be done under my extended warranty. Car shield told the local business they would be sending out an inspector to look at the vehicle. 4 weeks later an inspector would arrive. He agree with the mechanic and the service department that the engine needed to be replaced, however, the decision to approve the repairs was not on him, but another person above him. I was not advised by Car shield of any contact involving the service department or the inspector. I called requesting information again for all of the Car shield notes related to my extended warranty service contract. In between this time Car shield requested information to include service records on my vehicle. A vehicle that I had recently purchased and had only driven a little over 1800 miles in. The service sticker on the vehicle gave the estimated service date and mileage of just over 90,000 plus miles due to be serviced in mid September. Each time I contacted Car shield I was placed on hold somewhere between 20 minutes and 2 hours and 40 minutes and I eventually spoke to someone who claimed they were looking up information to best serve me and answer my questions. I found this too be a load of crap. I requested a copy of all the information pulled by Car shield related to my extended warrant contract. I was told that someone from American Auto Shield needed to review the information before approving my request. I never hear from anyone from American Auto Shield or Car shield. I came to my own determination they were two companies who seemed to be doing their best to confuse, and contradict the customer and make the problem a customer issue and not part of the extended warranty. To date Car shield has not sent me any of the information or contacted me on the decision to repair or not to repair my vehicle. The ford dealership where my vehicle was being serviced and fixed told me the cause of damage to the vehicle was engine failure. Upon reviewing my contract this appeared to be covered according to the contract and I expected for it to be covered. On Monday, September 14, 2020 I was notified by the Ford dealership service department that Car shield denied my claim. The service department employee told me the company (Car shield) said that I should have had the vehicle towed into the service department instead of driving it in. Car shield also claimed that the vehicle had not been properly or regularly serviced and this was also a cause of failure. The service department employee told me that he was shocked from the decision because the vehicle when they got it was full of oil, the service sticker in the window miles and date had not been reached and not once was a lack of oil or service issues brought up by the inspector who was onsite to inspect the vehicle. From the time that I noticed the noise coming from my vehicle until I took the vehicle to the Ford service shop, I had only drove it to the dealership and home where I parked it until the date I scheduled to take it in for servicing and diagnostic inspection at the dealership. I drove my second vehicle instead. Car shield is a scam plan and simple. I plan to continue paying my account until I have resolved the dispute. I have hired an attorney and I am requesting damages from this incident due to the fact that now my second vehicle has broken down and I absolutely refuse to trust that Car shield will honor the agreement they signed me too. They will take your money, play paddy cake with your emotions and feelings and they throw you under the bus exactly when you need the warranty you've purchased from them to take effect.

We apologize for the delays in facilitating your claim.Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most American Auto Shield ("AAS") employees are working remotely; as a result, some callers are experiencing connection issues and extended hold times. We realize these issues are not acceptable and certainly do not reflect our commitment to provide the highest levels of service. We apologize for the customer’s inconvenience and look forward to providing excellent service in the future. We have escalated this with leadership in the Claims Department and you should receive a call back by the end of the following business day.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

Car shield has no intentions of honoring my claim. They are doing everything possible to draw out this claim to avoid covering the warranty. They have no problem taking my money for as long as they can before I finally lose my vehicle and canceled my contract thereby making it a win win for them!

Here is my support: Monday

I called Ford service dealership and they had received nothing from car shield.

I called car shield who claims a adjuster sent a request on Thursday 09/17/20 on the cost of a new oil system. I ask if the adjuster would call me back and as of this writing I have still not heard back from the adjuster.

I called the dealership again speaking with the service representative who checked all emails and fax requests beginning Thursday 09/17/20 finding none from car shield regarding my truck.

Tuesday- I did not get a call from the adjuster still. I received a call from the dealership representative before the end of the day, who told me that he called Monday and today leaving messages for a car shield adjuster to contact him on what the next steps are.

Wednesday- I have not heard back from the adjuster and when I called to speak to the service representative at the dealership he had not received any calls back from the adjuster or received any faxes from car shield.

Car shield service continues to be the worst I have ever experienced.

Sincerely

Thanks for reaching out again.

Our claims department spoke with your repair facility on Sept 23, 2020 and asked for an estimate for the cost of the oil pump. At that time, your repair facility asked that the adjuster call back the next day (today, Sept 24th) around 11:30. The claims department called your repair facility at 11:50am and there was no answer. A message was left on both numbers the repair facility provided. The claims department needs the estimate for the oil pump to move the claim forward.

Please have them contract American Auto Shield *** or submit the estimate, noting your contract number, to *** at their earliest convenience.

Thank you,

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:

I spoke with the dealership on Wednesday and they told me that Car shield adjuster told them they were only going to replace the oil pump and none of the other repairs would be authorized because I failed to properly maintain and service the vehicle. What car shield continues to refuse to accept is that I only purchased the vehicle in July of 2020. The vehicle was serviced prior to my taking it off the certified used dealership lot. Plus I had only put roughly 1800 plus miles on the engine. My contract with car shield specifically cover the engine to name just one of the many covered items. Car shield expects me to pay $8300.00 for the new engine in exchange for them paying $1200.00 for the oil pump. No way. Car shield can honor their warranty or deny the claim so I can sue them. I also reported car shield to the State of Washington Revdex.com and insurance commission who I provided a copy of my contract to which I signed and printed the day I purchased the contract.

Sincerely

I have three vehicles covered with CarShield. They have always done a great job of getting things taken care of. Last visit took alittle longer than expected due to covid. But my wife was happy having a nicer car to drive for the rental while it was getting fixed.

On August 31, 2020 we signed up with Carshield. After I read the contract in totality, I realized I wanted to cancel my enrollment. I sent a certified letter to cancel my policy. Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

I called to start a policy on 1 car, started the policy and paid through ACH. After I paid weeks later I received a letter stating preauthorization of ACH "if you didn't make this change call office immediately. I NEVER gave anyone authorization for recurring ACH payments and I want a refund. I also added another car before money was taken out of my account unauthorized and wanted to pay both on the same date. I was lied to when I initially called regarding the refund saying that it could take up to 7 days to refund my money to the same account now they are telling me I have to wait an additional 20 days for a check refund. I have cancalled my policies and want my money refunded NOW BACK IN MY ACCOUNT. THEY ARE THE WORST DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM...

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Sincerely,

But I only received notification of a refund of $79.00, I'm not understanding how this was refunded before the 99.00 due me from the other account.

After having Car Sheild for years and never used, along with paying $90/mth; my engine light unfortunately came on. I took my vehicle back to the Chevy dealership and after spending 30 miniutes on the phone with Car Sheild my claim was denied. I have spoken with 3 other former Car Shild customers and they informed me of the same thing. I have cancelled by policy with Car SHeild and will not recommend them to anyone.

They stated that everything on my contract would be covered. I had the vehicle repaired and they denied everything except the water pump. I will have to come out of pocket $3,200 dollars. I am a single dad and this totally unfair to me. The claims rep was extremely rude and disrespectful. She told me that is not her problem. This not a company to do business with.

On June 19, 2020 I applied and paid for Carshield, since I was keeping my car. I was quoted $109.99 monthly and agreed to this, which they withdrew from my account 19th of each month. On July 20 on a trip 155 miles from my home, the A/C went out on my 2008 Kia and I called the local dealer to see about servicing and it it was only coolant, I would take care off. Scheduled for July 22. I called Carshield same day to see what their procedure was, I was advised to get a diagnostic report for them and submit. Which I did and it took a week to get hold of them. Phone service was down. Tried to submit by email and would not go through. On Aug 1 I was getting married and on Friday July 24, I had plans to relocate to new area, which I did and Carshield was notified that I was going to change repair shops. I put my car in *** on Aug 3 and did not receive back until Sept 4 due to all the slow process of getting approval to replace the Air Conditioning Compressor. While the repair shop was working back and forth with American Auto Shield who does the claims for Carshield DEMANDED rebuilt parts to be used or 2nd rate parts, was said "we don't care just get it fixed and put back on the road". I am on social security and I plan to keep this car. I have never had any problems with it. I was without a vehicle all this time. The total bill was $1029.48 and they would only approve paying $630.76. I paid the balance plus the $100 deductible. IF YOU LOOK ON THEIR WEBSITE IT PLAINLY SHOWS A PAGE, CAN YOU AFFORD A $2000 REPAIR BILL TODAY AND GIVES 3 SCENARIOS, ENGINE $3438 WITH CARSHILD $0, TRANSMISSION $2324 WITH CARSHIELD $0, AIR CONDITIONER $1029 WITH CARSHIELD $0. THIS IS FALSE ADVERTISING AND MISLEADING. I AM NOT HAPPY AND I HAVE CANCELED.

I purchased a Dodge Journey 2013. I got it serviced twice, but still decided to purchase a warranty from CarShield (AmericanAutoShield) When it came time to use the warranty, Carshield did not call me not one time until it was time to deny the claim. My car has been in the shop for 10 days. They had me on hold for hours and they transferred me to reps. that never answered the call. The rep. told me they were short on reps. and to email them @ [email protected]. I sent e-mails and they never responded. They stated neglect of the radiator hose, but two mechanics looked at this vehicle and stated that is not something you can easily detect. When does an engine just stop working on its on own. Something had to cause the engine not to work. This is a ploy or tactic to place in their contract to get customers to purchase a warranty. They know items like engines are expensive, but when an inexpensive items cause the damage they won't cover the engine so they deny the whole claim. I spoke with ***, the mechanic of Hometown and they were evasive with him as well. He had to repeatedly call them and submit the information. Finally, when he got the guy *** on the phone he told him the diagnostics. Originally, they were supposed to come out, *** stated they were giving him the run around like they did me so he told the guy no I can give you the information over the phone. As soon as *** told him one piece of information, he immediately denied the claim. He didn't want an explanation and this gave him a reason not to come out and look the car over. I didn't hear from this company in 10 days, but as soon as they were given a reason to deny the claim they initiated the call to me. Now, I am without a vehicle. They have left me with a huge bill and a non working vehicle. Then, they have the audacity to send a survey email after every call like they exhibit great customer service. I would not recommend anyone to get their service warranty. They talk a good game to attract you. They constantly send emails and call your phones. This was my first time purchasing an extended warranty and I won't purchase another one if they any thing like CarShield.

Per the terms of you vehicle service contract, you are only eligible for full refund within the first 30 days after purchasing the vehicle service contract. However, CarShield is willing to refund 7 payments as a gesture of goodwill and in good faith to resolve this matter. Please let know if this is acceptable to you and we will process the refund immediately.

If you have any further disputes or questions,
please contact American Auto Shield directly ***, or see Section M, Dispute
Resolutions, of your contract.

We look forward to working towards a resolution with you on this matter.

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
Your claim was not authorized due to your vehicle being for commercial use. As noted in Section D (2)(G) of your contract, vehicles used for commercial purposes are not eligible for CarShield coverage. Your cancellation has been processed and you are being refunded in full for the policy on the Chevy Silverado.

Customer service hit and miss. Some understanding, some not. Those that are not are very rude.
Made a claim and our car has been sitting in the repair shop for almost 3 months. Each time we call Carshield it is something different. They say they are waiting on our repair shop or they are waiting for the adjuster.
Asked about a rental, one person tells us that you can go and rent a car, any car at any price and Carshield will take care of it. Just to check the story out, we called and mentioned that our car was in the shop and that we rented a car. How do we go about getting that reimbursed, we were told that Carshield does not cover the whole cost, they only cover a percentage up to a certain amount of days. If we had actually rented a car (for months that our car was in the shop) we would be stuck with a rental car bill.
This company is very inconsistent and only confirm the stigmatism of insurance coverage companies. They take your money but when it comes time to make good on their promises, they make it hard for you do so. So disappointing. You try to get help and keep your end of the deal by making payments consistently, all to find out when you need their service they recant their promises.

My mom signed up with Carshied in March. They didn’t explain to her that there is waiting period where you have to drive certain amount of miles. Covid lockdowns just began, she has pre existing conditions and wasn’t leaving house, she just retired, wasn’t driving car. If it was properly explained than she never would of signed up. Very deceptive sales practice. Spoke to supervisor and she confirmed it was glossed over and not explained. Basically taking advantage of seniors during pandemic. Throw bunch of info at you and fail to explain very important detail. Basically for 7 months she in waiting period where they’re taking money from her account and she’s ineligible to use her policy. Supposed to be explained by law, but never happened.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

As noted on the first three
pages of your contract, American Auto Shield is the administrator of your
vehicle service contract and has full authority over repair procedures,
approvals, denials and payments. We have contacted them to obtain
information on the repair claim you have referenced. We have reviewed the call on March 15, 2020 when the contract was purchased. Our sales representative did go over the waiting period during the call as well as asked other questions regarding commercial use and modifications to the vehicle. We also emailed a copy of the contract to [email protected] on the date of purchase.

All CarShield contracts come with a 30 day money back guarantee so that customers have a chance to review the terms of the agreement and are eligible for a full refund if they decide they don't want to keep coverage in that 30 day period. The contract very clearly states on the Declaration Page (D1) the terms of the waiting period. Given the contract was purchased over 6 months ago, there is no refund due.

CarShield will refund 4 payments as a gesture of goodwill and in good faith to resolve this matter. The initial payment will be refunded back to the MASTERCARD *** and the remainder will be sent via check within 7-10 business days. This will cancel the contract.

My vehicle got stuck in first gear while leaving BK. It was then taken to the repair shop. I pay carshield monthly to cover my vehicle. In my contract my transmission is covered. I was denied my claim even after the repair shop told carshield that the problem is the transmission and it needs to be repaired. Each time I talked to carshield, they tried to find a different reason to deny the claim.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:The adjuster talked with the repair shop. The repair shop told adjuster with me on three way that the entire transmission is bad and needs to be replaced. The claims department wants me to let them break down the entire transmission and I would have to pay for that myself if they keep denying the claim. The repair shop told the adjuster and myself that there is no need to tear down the entire transmission and that this company is the only company to ask for something like that. The repair shop told the adjust for the 4th time that the entire transmission is bad and needs to be replaced. I would like my money back for both of my vehicles covered by this company and I would like for them to pay for them having my truck sit at the shop for so many days and the diagnostics. This company has denied this claim 3 times, each for reasons different from what the repair shop keeps telling them. My contract says that my transmission is covered, so either fix vehicle or give me all of my money back plus shop costs.

Sincerely

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Sincerely

I had a policy with them. I had service done August 11th. They agreed to pay for a portion of the costs. They told me to have the dealership call them and they would work directly with the dealership. The dealership called them, and then Carshield said they wouldn't pay. They told me that they would. Now they put me on hold with different people, they say they haven't received the claim form via email when I did send it. I have had to pay $1599.00 out of my pocket. They told me they would $708.00.

attention.

As noted on the first three pages of your
contract, American Auto Shield is the administrator of your vehicle service
contract and has full authority over repair procedures, approvals, denials and
payments. We have contacted them to obtain information on the repair
claim you have referenced. After reviewing the records sent to the claims department on April 2, 2020, your vehicle had turbocharger codes set during the waiting period. Your vehicle service contract was purchased on March 18, 2020 and the records submitted show just 16 days later the turbo charger codes were present. Since the codes showed during the waiting period (20 days/ 500 mile) it was considered a preexisting condition and your claim was denied.

In a good faith effort to resolve this matter, CarShield will refund your payments in full. You will receive one payment back to the VISA *** and the remainder will be sent via check within 7-10 business days. This will cancel your contract.

I am rejecting this response because:Upon calling the company its stated all calls are recorded. I had no issue with my turbo prior to purchase of the contracted warranty. I've never gone and had the turbo diagnosed for such reasons. Now moving to the refund option to all payments made is a suggestion of guilt and failed to uphold contract agreements. I would like to further pursue this case to have Car Shield cover the damages and replacement cost.

Sincerely
