D&R Remodeling Reviews (202)

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved Sincerely, [redacted]

I have attempted to resolve the warranty issue (detailed below) for months and especially during the last few weeks, but [redacted] refuses to answer my telephone calls or emails during the last 3 weeks or so. I have simply asked [redacted] aka D&R Remodeling to RE-DO the floor...But he refuses to contact me. Additionally, we are attempting to sell our home, and he is preventing the sale.

Work Performed - Tile laid on bathroom floor: D&R Remodeling - [redacted] the [redacted], performed tile work in the second bathroom at my home. The tile work was the final step of a complete remodeling of that bathroom. The bathroom was stripped to the sub-floor, and studs. D&R Remodeling installed tile on the floor. This bathroom is unused.

Within a few months CRACKS were noticed in the floor tile grout.

REMEDY: The entire floor has to be REMOVED - tile, hardi-backer board, thinset, completely cleaned off, so that an ENTIRELY NEW floor can be properly laid, according to numerous tile experienced tile contractors I spoke with. The LABOR alone will cost $ 900 or so, plus NEW TILE, totaling $ 1200 approximately.

RESULTS of My inspection of the cracks: The grout was NOT the problem! The FLOOR TILE WERE LOOSE = TILE WERE NOT BONDED to the floor properly. According to numerous tile experienced tile contractors, the problem is a result of some or all of the following: (1) workmanship quality - the tile was not properly set into the thinset (which bonds the tile to the hardi-backer board); (2) the thinset was not properly mixed; (3) the base (under the tile) was not properly prepared. I called a well known tile supplier in Austin - [redacted] and they noted that grout is NEVER an issue (their words not mine).

D&R does not stand behind work: As I noted above, this bathroom is unused. Recently we had needed to use this bathroom and noticed cracks in the grout of about 25% of the tile floor. I mentioned this to Rolando and he told me to caulk it. Notice he did not say; "I will be right out to fix it since it is a NEW floor!". I was surprised by his answer, because this seemed to be poor repair advice, i.e. caulk is used in tub & shower areas, NOT the middle of the floor. Secondly, this is NEW WORK, which should NEVER be failing, especially in a few months. I called various tile shops and tile companies, and NONE of them recommended "the caulk fix", but asked WHY your tile company wasn't coming out to fix THEIR WORK!? I have called [redacted] the [redacted] repeatedly, but he refuses to answer my telephone calls or emails.

Other suspect business practices.

Over billing or false billing: [redacted] the [redacted], provided me with an itemized bid of tile work to be done. The some of the work which he bid was not done. I know this because I watched the tile crew do their work., and I asked them if they were going to perform or not perform those aspects of the tile work. [redacted] the tile installer said that they never do the process that he skipped, and did not appear to even know what that process step was. Yet at the end of the job, he attempted to bill me for the undone work. It appears that [redacted] bids work which is never done, but since it is not viewable by the home[redacted], he gets away with over billing. I told him I would pay for the work that was done if he would send me a corrected bill. He protested, but relented when I told him I watched the work being done.

Side note. I obtained a couple of competitive quotes for the work D&R Remodeling ultimately performed. All quotes were in the same ball park. But D&R was definitely NOT THE CHEAP quote!

The short of the long is, D&R Remodeling is running their business with NO INTEGRITY. On D&R's website they claim to have a Revdex.com rating of A+ which is false. This only adds to the issues that I have addressed above.

Request from Revdex.com. Give D&R Remodeling your worst rating AND provide an additional listing at the [redacted]'s name [redacted] with Revdex.com's worst rating, so that he can not skirt this complaint. He is trying to play on Revdex.com's good name.
