Dumbo Moving & Storage, Inc. Reviews (184)

Review: Movers were late causing a trickle down effect of issues, finally resulting in our belongings being stored overnight in the truck.

Though Dumbo Moving had full knowledge of their truck's damage they did not disclose this information or take precautions to keep our items safe. The truck had a very large leak and contained all of our belongings overnight with no precautions taken to keep them dry. I was told at the time of delivery by the team that the company had full knowledge of the truck's condition before the day in which it was used, this blatant disregard is an example of gross negligence on behalf of Dumbo Moving. Something as simple as a $20 tarp thrown over the roof or parking in a garage would have sufficed.Desired Settlement: The water damage has damaged and voided the warranty on our mattresses & couch, we would like these items replaced. OR at least the deprecated value received, they are both about a year old.

Response:

We have offer the over night fee to be refund to her, We also open claim for everything that got damaged in her move.

Dumbo Moving provides its customers with two liability levels to protect their belongings: release value protection of 60 cents

per pound per article is provided for free, full coverage protection is provided at an additional charge. The amount of reimbursement

will be determined by the level of protection you chose for your move.According to our records you chose free basic insurance option

for your move, therefore the compensation will be assigned based on the weight of the item multiplied by 60c. She has not give us that info

to begin the claim.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

1. Dumbo did not offer us a refund of the overnight fee. I disputed it with my bank account and was awarded the refund by the bank because of the fraudulent charge.

2. During the planning stage of the move, I spoke with my sales rep at Dumbo specifically about the insurance options available. It was explained to me that it was not necessary to purchase the additional insurance because the minimum for a claim was $10,000. Meaning, I would spend $250 extra on insurance and if something went wrong for $5,000 it would not be a valid claim and would not be paid out. However, insurance on moving damages is a moot point

3. Dumbo has offered us a few minimal settlements for the damages, an insurance claim option or mediation option all equaling to roughly 60c per pound (or less) as per their contract for "Moving Damages". All with the caveat that we can not publicly speak publicly about our experience with the company. What we encountered was not mainly moving damages BUT the results of gross negligence on the company's behalf. Moving damages are items broken by the moving team during the transportation or poor packing of belongings from point A to point B, roughly $1,000 worth of damage in our situation. The damages that we would like addressed are from the company knowingly utilizing a known faulty storage method for our belongings with complete disregard for the guaranteed result of water damage. We have witnesses that will attest to the company having prior knowledge to the condition of the truck before the date of our move.

Additionally, we have not withheld information from Dumbo at any time. All correspondence has been replied to outlining information and trying to come to a reasonable agreement. We provided an itemized list of damaged belongings with their original and deprecated prices. We have informed them that if this is not possible we will be taking the complaint to small claims. Their reaction to this was closing our case with their internal claims department. Recently they emailed asking us to retract our complaints from social media and Revdex.com in order to receive a 10% pay off of what we are claiming as damages.

Last offer is $600

Review: Dumbo moving and storage is the company that I hired to transport my belongings from NYC to Tampa florida where I am currently living.. during the move one of the items that I had (a mechanics tool box) was damaged during the move multiple deep scratches.. I followed the procedures that were asked of me to start a claim with the company for compensation... the stated compensation was 60 cents per pound of any item that was lost or damaged.. after filing my claim I received an email from the company stating that they would only pay out 35 dollars.. I explained to them that the repair on the box would be about 1100 dollars. after that they sent me an email that stated if I did not like the offer that I could file a claim and have them review the damage to the box along with all the information on the box (cost, time owned, condition) which they did and sent me an email stating that they would pay out 75 dollars today I received an email from them stating that in good faith they would offer me 100 dollars, they stated that the 60 cents per pound would only be paid out on items that were damaged beyond repair. after explaining to them that none of the papers I signed stated this and that no one that I spoke to ever stated that they responded by telling me that the 100 dollar offer was the final offer.Desired Settlement: I would like for them to pay for the repair of my tool box

Review: I hired Dumbo Moving to move from NY to TX and I purchased over $300 of my own heavy duty moving blankets because my things were going to be in storage for some time. The saleperson ([redacted]) and I discussed this point for a very long time because my furniture is not IKEA, it's good quality I received as wedding gifts the year before. I told everyone that went to pick up the furniture and let the warehouse know in Texas as well. This is all documented. When everything was delivered none of the furniture had blankets and everything was damaged. I am BEYOND disappointed. Terrible service and now nobody is available to respond!!! The insurance company (Roanoke Claims Services) also claims that due to fine print they can't do anything about it. The cost to repair everything is $10,542 and Dumbo Moving still has over $300 worth of my blankets. They are not responding to anything and have told me to speak with Roanoke but that's not the problem. There is no policy in the insurance documentation regarding cases where the moving company (i.e. Dumbo Moving in this case) breaks an agreement which was fully documented and (a) steals over $300 worth of heavy-duty moving blankets, and (b) damages everything because of that. Point (a) is what triggered everything. It's equivalent to doing a long distance moving and simply throwing around unprotected furniture without any care while knowing that the agreement was to have protection on. Again, this is all documented in the emails I send back and forth to [redacted] from Dumbo Moving. The moving company MUST take responsibility for their actions. It is beyond unprofessional!Desired Settlement: The cost of everything that was damaged is $17,007 and the cost to repair everything is $10,542. I would like to receive this amount in cash so that I can repair all my damaged furniture.
