regarding your PNC Bank, National Association (“PNC”), Performance Select checking account ending in XXXX (the “Checking Account”)I tried to contact you on January and January 19, 2018, but was unsuccessful in reaching youI appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns.In your complaint, you stated that you have recently been assessed a service charge on your Checking Account after having the Checking Account for three yearsYou advised that you were told the only way to avoid this monthly fee was to apply for a PNC credit cardPNC denies that any wrongdoing occurred.Our records show that on January 5, 2015, you opened your Checking Account along with a Money Market savings account ending in XXXX (the “Money Market Account”), at PNC's East Brunswick Branch located at *** *** *** *** *** *** ** ***According to the enclosed Consumer Schedule of Service Charges and Fees - Performance Select Checking, there is no monthly service charge on the Checking Account if you meet one of the following:• $5,combined average monthly balance in this and up to PNC Bank consumer checking accounts you have chosen to link• $25,combined average monthly balance across PNC Bank consumer deposit and/or PNCIinvestment accounts you have chosen to link• $5,in qualifying monthly direct deposits to this account during the statement periodAccording to our records, the Checking Account did not meet any of the above requirements and a monthly service fee in the amount of $XX.XX was assessed to your Checking Account in December 2017.PNC's practice is to refund fees in the event of a bank errorWhile no bank error occurred in this matter, on December 30, 2017, the $XX.XX fee was refunded to your account as a courtesy.Our records indicate that on January 9, 2017, your Checking Account was upgraded and appropriately linked to your Money Market Account so the fee waiver requirements could be applicable to your Checking AccountPlease be advised that a credit card account is not required to have the monthly fee waivedAdditionally, PNC could find no record of a credit card application submitted in your name.Thank you for allowing me to clarify PNC's position in this matterIf you have any questions or additional concerns, please call me at XXX-XXX-XXXXI am available Monday through Friday from 8:AM to 4:PM, Eastern Time.Sincerely,XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX Executive Client Relations
