I used their website https[redacted] to search a random number that constantly calls my phone. the site said that it had all of the information of the number but I would have to join and pay a small fee to get the info. after I had finished signing up it did a search for the same number and they now have no info for the same number they said they did before I had payed for the access...false advertising. now there seems to be no possible way to Cancel my account in the settings options on the site or atleast be able to remove my credit card information from my profile. summar is that it has an overall sketchy vibe considering I am unable to cancel my account / membership or delete my credit card and it uses false claims to trick people into paying to become a member. I would not suggest this website by inflection to anyone.

the customer received on 12/07/2012. The customer's original purchase was for a $0.95 Phone report which included a single report on the individual they searched for and a 7-day free trial on PeopleSmart, which is the reason they were charged. Out of courtesy, we had already processed a refund once they contacted our service center directly on 04/03/2014. Four refunds of $19.95 were issued. We apologize but as outlined in our Terms of Service we're unable to refund charges more than 60 days old. At that time we went back 120 days out of courtesy but no further refunds will be issued. If there is any other way we can assist them, they are welcomed to contact us at their earliest convenience at X-XXX-XXX-XXXX.

PeopleSmart billed $339.15 for services not provided!!!! PeopleSmart can easily verify that I have never been back to the website and never used the services. Obviously judging by the very large number of complaints on Revdex.com and other websites PeopleSmart lure people with the trial period then conveniently don't cancel the membership and continue to bill. Most people that have numerous transaction don't pay attention to these small transactions and peoplesmart get away with billing thousands without providing anything in terms of service.

PeopleSmart is consistently avoiding the point that I had cancelled my membership within the 7 day trial. And continued to bill me even though I have never been back to the website. A very sneaky approach to making money but I guess that why there are so many complaints on Revdex.com and others against PeopleSmart.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
One attempt was made to cancel the service, which was believed to have been successful. But the deviant nature of the hook and sinker system PeopleSmart employs to "maintain" its "customer base" hinges on quiet low level recurring charges on the customer's credit card and a sneaky way to not cancel the entire "membership" after the trial period is over, merely parts of it. There is zero evidence that the "customer" who was hooked this way ever used the "membership", which further supports this claimant's position that she meant to have the "service" cancelled immediately after the one unsuccessful attempt to "locate" a person was made. This complaint was lodged to warn other unsuspecting "trial members" that "membership" status will "accidentally" carry on long after the "trial member" thinks they've "cancelled" on what follows the "trial". Claimant recognizes that PeopleSmart is refusing to issue a refund for a service it offers but was not asked to perform. Claimant believes that this represents a form of malpractice.

Gratitude to the Revdex.com bureau for addressing this complaint, however "small" the grievance may be, it was/is important to us that there be a place where people can expresse their positive or negative experiences with local businesses. In this case, and in our eyes, Peoplesmart remains a greasy parasite which attaches itself to the underbelly of its subjects for however long the ride lasts. Refunds ought to be "true" refunds, and the fact that the company continues to [redacted] foot around the "refund" issue by invoking an arbitrarily set statute of limitation illustrates the point perfectly.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2014/04/14) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
This response in no way addresses the complaint. The complaint is that PeopleSmart advertising promises criminal background reports as part of the free trial. It is only after signing up for an account and providing credit card information that you discover that the free trial does not include criminal background reports. It only includes criminal background searches.
This is a very important distinction, because PeopleSmart narrowly defines a "search" and a "report." A search means that you can enter someone's information and they will search their databases. However, you cannot see the results of that search unless you also order a report. In other words, searches are essentially worthless because you have no access to the results. The only real thing of value are the reports because they actually tell you information about the person in question.
In their advertising, PeopleSmart promised Criminal History REPORTS in their free trial, not merely Criminal History SEARCHES. However, once you accept their free trial, you discover that contrary to their promise, the reports are not included. Rather, they are an additional fee.
This is illegal.
The response giving above merely describes the process of performing a search and is an complete non-response to the complaint.

A Contact Report, Reverse Phone Report, Work Information Report, or Background Report is only available for individual purchase. (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Again, this is canned corporate speak that does not address my main issue. Clearly, the criminal background reports are not included in trial membership. That is not in dispute.
The claim here is for DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING!!!
I wish there was a way to attach a copy of the ad that PeopleSmart sent. It would help clarify this situation a lot. It clearly states IN THE AD that the trail membership DOES INCLUDE the criminal background reports.
THIS STATEMENT IS INTENTIONALLY MISLEADING TO ENTICE PEOPLE TO SIGN UP FOR THE TRIAL MEMBERSHIP.
It is only after signing up for the trail membership that one discovers that criminal background reports are part of the premium package and not the trial membership.
Let me state this clearly again:
- The fact that the criminal background reports are not included in the trial membership is NOT IN DISPUTE! So, please do not include any future statements to this effect.
- The complaint is that your AD CLEARLY STATED that the criminal background records ARE INCLUDED in the trial, when, in fact, they are not. This is DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING and is illegal.
PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND AGAIN THAT I AM JUST CONFUSED ABOUT WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE INCLUDED IN THE TRIAL MEMBERSHIP. I HAVE NO CONFUSION AT ALL AROUND THIS. I CLEARLY KNOW WHAT IS INCLUDED IN EACH SUBSCRIPTION AND I ALSO CLEARLY KNOW WHAT YOUR AD PROMISES TO INCLUDE.
I have two doctorate degrees and my wife is an attorney. We have looked at this ad closely and there is no confusion whatsoever as to what is promised in the ad.
I am also very persistent. The longer you respond with meaningless corporate speak that does not address the complaint, the more this situation is going to escalate.

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2014/02/21) */
[redacted]
Thank you for your response. I have cut and pasted a copy of an email from Paypal [redacted] below this email. As I previously stated, I had filed a complaint with them. They have completed their investigation which has resulted in their agreeing with my assessment of Peoplesmart's service. They have refunded my money. So that matter has been resolved.

I read Peoplesmart's response to my complaint. It is a somewhat ludicrous response. As I stated in my original complaint, I paid $40 for all information about me at my address, which I own, where I have lived for over 20 years. I am listed in the [redacted] court records for this county (for civil cases) which link to my address. All of this should have been provided for the $40 and was listed as being provided. (I attached a screenshot of that with something as simple as the address on the ad titled photo2)
Once I paid and received the name attached to the phone number i.e. my name, there was another link to follow which correlated to a list where my name and age
was displayed. Incidentally there was also a false alias displaying for me that appears only on credit checks since it is linked to my husbands name which I never assumed. it appears in my fico score backgrounds in that manner but no place else, so I wondered where they obtained it and why it was linked to my name and age. For the $40, I just followed the links and clicked on the right one. I attached a screenshot for the selection of my name that appeared after I paid the $40 (titled peoplesmart)
and the screenshot that followed that asking for payment for that information titled 2nd payment request). You can see it clearly has two names on it and states to "add to cart".
For obvious reasons, I still wish to have access to all information that these people have about me for my review and then have it deleted from their system. Since that was my purpose in starting this entire process, I would like to have them honor that.
In this day of identity theft I am certain that you can understand why someone would want to check all of this out. I thank you for taking the time to review this. As an aside all of the personal identifying information in this complaint does not appear on the website, correct?
Thank you,
[redacted]

Below is a copy of the email that I receeived from Paypal. The funds have been returned to my credit card.

Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 11, 2014/03/12) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
[redacted]

I see that filing this complaint has left me in a precarious position vis a vis my personal information. More than anyone I know how companies like this perpetuate ID theft and assist others in this same crime. I have helped many in recovering their identities and bringing the true criminals to justice. However, I am way too old to have to recover mine. Despite the warnings, this complaint needed too much personal identifying information to convey the details since it pertained to an company that trades in personal identifying information. It would have been impossible to file this complaint without explaining it in the manner in which I did.
In my opinion, Peoplesmart has thought this a joke from the beginning and continues to do so. They have nothing but stock answers, disrespect and contempt for the complaint. So I have given this a great deal of thought. I would like to completely withdraw my complaint. I do not want to run the risk of having any of this complaint which contains so much sensitive data, posted online.
In turning to you, I felt that a company listed with Revdex.com would be more respectful of your system but that is not the case here. I had asked for a refund. Peoplesmart has just blown off Revdex.com by saying that they were no longer in possession of the funds, PayPal was! Of course once you purchase something, a credit card or PayPal always has possession of the funds. But does that excuse the fact that the original product the company provided was wrong, inaccurate, corrupt or they just failed completely to provide the consumer with a product? PayPal took my information, conducted an investigation and refunded my money.
My entire reason in purchasing this information from Peoplesmart was to check out what they had so that I could protect myself. Through this Revdex.com system, it would appear that I have made myself more vulnerable for no reason.
Therefore, if I could withdraw the complaint, I would like to do so. I cannot imagine that Peoplesmart will have a problem with my request to withdraw this complaint!

Thank you for your time

If there was any section to cancel what they refer to as membership, it was in fine print and not readable to me. The fact remains that I had to contact them twice before I got any result. Their customer service is not their priority. Like many businesses, they only hope that the recipient of their charges does not check their monthly billings.
