Instant Checkmate.com compiles reports from millions of public records including information provided by state and local governments. All of the information contained in our reports is part of what is referred to as the "public record."
We do apologize for any confusion Ms. [redacted] may have experienced regarding our services. Some customers are under the impression that when you purchase a membership with our company you are paying for records; unfortunately, this is not the case. The service that is provided is actually the compiling of all the public records data and the sorting of the data into an easy to read format. When a customer pays for a public records search, we do guarantee that we will search every database available to us, however, we cannot guarantee which records will or will not show up in the final report since we are not in control of the records themselves. We simply display records as they are provided to us.
We get our information from local county courthouses and census bureaus. This information is then uploaded to the database that we pull from. There is a possibility that some information may not show on a given individual because some state and local laws restrict us from accessing certain records which may not be considered “public” in that jurisdiction. There also exists the possibility of false positives, and more than one individual with the same name and basic information may match up with many other records. For these reasons, search results are filtered by "most likely," "likely," and "somewhat likely." The following disclaimer is also posted on every page of our website:

I signed up for this service and was unable to get any report without purchasing more services. I chose not to. I immediately requested a full refund because I did not get what was advertised. I did not get a full refund. Their confirmation email says that you will be charged ~22 dollars a month if you do not cancel. I emailed them. No response. This was a couple weeks ago. Because I'm getting worried about additional charges I called the number listed above. An automated message answers saying to press 1 to receive $100 for some opportunity or hang up. This message repeats three or four times then hangs up on you. You are never given the opportunity to cancel being charged for services that you never received or will receive. Not sure where to go from here but this is a nightmare and false advertising.

Instant Checkmate sometimes offers promotional membership offers. If You enroll in a nonstandard membership, Instant Checkmate expressly reserves the right to bill You, at the rate and frequency disclosed at the time of You enroll.
d) Cancellation Policy
You may cancel your membership, including any trial or nonstandard membership at any time by calling our customer support line at ###-###-#### between 5am - 10pm Pacific Standard Time (7 days a week) to speak with one of our Customer Service Representatives. Any cancellation request will cancel Your upcoming bill.
e) Refund Policy
Our number one goal at Instant Checkmate is customer satisfaction. If you are ever not satisfied with our services, feel free to call one of our excellent customer support staff at ###-###-#### between the hours of 5am and 10pm PST (7 days a week), or between 6am and 2pm PST on holidays, and we will work to resolve your issue. Refunds are handled on a case by case basis with the ultimate goal of complete customer satisfaction.

Instant Checkmate Inc. is nothing mote than a scam. They advertise $18 for a background check. I signed up for one month of service but they charged me for three months of service claiming that's what I chose no I did not! I came to them for the $18 background report however once I gained access all they gave me was basic information I can find on Google and if I wanted a background check I need to pay an additional I believe $27.

If You selected a trial membership, You will be billed $1.00 immediately upon enrollment of the trial. Your 5-day, $1.00 trial will expire in 5 days. Upon the expiration of the 5-day trial period, You will be automatically enrolled in a monthly membership and billed $29.63 immediately and $29.63 every month thereafter, unless you cancel. You may cancel at any time including during the trial period. See Section 1(d) below.
c) Nonstandard Membership Plans
Instant Checkmate sometimes offers promotional membership offers. If You enroll in a nonstandard membership, Instant Checkmate expressly reserves the right to bill You, at the rate and frequency disclosed at the time of You enroll.
d) Cancellation Policy
You may cancel your membership, including any trial or nonstandard membership at any time by calling our customer support line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to speak with one of our Customer Service Representatives. Any cancellation request will cancel Your upcoming bill.
e) Refund Policy
Our number one goal at Instant Checkmate is customer satisfaction. If you are ever not satisfied with our services, feel free to call one of our excellent customer support staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we will work to resolve your issue. Refunds are handled on a case by case basis with the ultimate goal of complete customer satisfaction.
We apologize that Ms. [redacted] was not satisfied with our services. As a gesture of goodwill, she has been issued a refund in the amount of $593.60 as per the request in the original complaint. This refund has been credited back to the card that was used to enroll in our services, and no further charges will be incurred.
