Some customers are under the impression that when you purchase a membership with our company you are paying for records; unfortunately, this is not the case. The service that is provided is actually the compiling of all the public records data and the sorting of the data into an easy to read format. When a customer pays for a public records search, we do guarantee that we will search every database available to us, however, we cannot guarantee which records will or will not show up in the final report since we are not in control of the records themselves. Report was not as advertised. Everything of value is an ADDED COST. The basic information obtained for the initial fee was easily already available on the simplest of internet searches. They even charge extra for a pdf download of the report!!!!!

Last March of 2013, I found Instant Checkmate Online and signed up for full usage of their site for a certain period of time - I believe it was 1 month. I paid w my credit card and found the site to be useless, when searching for specific people and was unable to find anything significant. So I just did a print out of all local pedophiles. As I have a young child. And that was that. Weeks later I wanted to find out some info on another specific person and attempted to log in and could not gain access - I was under the impression that my time of usage had expired.
This last year has been very difficult for me. I suffer from severe migraines. And caring for a special needs child has been overwhelming. So I have not been on top of my checking account as I usually am. But today I decided to take a look at the withdrawals - and I was blown away to find that Instant Checkmate had been taking $22.86 out of my account since March 2013 - It is now early August 2014! I immediately called and spoke w a lady who told me I was supposed to call and cancel. I was NEVER informed that I needed to call and cancel because I had purchased a specific time frame of usage. In addition my experience has always been with any and all professional companies that when any money is taken from your account, you are notified via e-mail.
She said she could not do anything but cancel my account.
I truly believe this company is participates in scamming customers.

When people search very specifically on my name, age, town & state of residence and the name of my wife they are presented with a highlighted banner with a bright red background and bold white text in all CAPS, "WE FOUND 10+ CRIMINAL RECORDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE NAME "[redacted]" IN OR".  Additionally at the top of the page there is a "WARNING: This background report may ne graphic. We do not censor our reports... The content of the report might surprise you, so please prepare yourself for the unexpected."  I strongly feel this banner is a defamation of my name and character.  P.S. I have screen shots of this page with banner should you require further evidence of this issue.ISSUE: 1st, the banner is completely false because none of the criminal records are in Oregon (OR) or have anything to do with me.  2nd, the "disclaimer" they are hiding behind to make these totally misleading accusations about me is completely unenforceable because it whomever reads that banner to never use what they read to do any harm to the people they are allegedly reading about.  Bottom line: People buy these on-line background checks for the express purpose of making personal/business decisions about a specific person.  Why else would they pay for the service?  Logically it becomes almost impossible for NOT violate the disclaimer by the shear act of paying for the background check.  I ask for a very simple resolution to this issue; remove the banner "WE FOUND # CRIMINAL RECORDS ACCOCIATED WITH THE NAME "(FNAME LNAME)" in (STATE)".  I feel it is purely intended to sensationalize their report to encourage people to spend more money and is highly likely to cause personal damage on the person the reports are pulled.Regards,

What was advertised on the Checkmate site was that you were able to get a complete backround check including criminal history and financials. After paying a 1 month subscription for $26.82, the site asked me if I wanted to print out the information for an extra $1.99 for the entire month. My feelings were that this should have been included in the $26.82. Furthermore, the background only gave me current address and telephone information. In order to obtain the criminal and financial information, I would have to pay an additional $19.99. The company is very sketchy and dishonest. I called Checkmate and let them know about my dissatisfaction. The customer service representative dodged the issue and said that they would only make me pay 1/2 of the $26.82 and that I would still have to pay the $1.99 to print. I called the company as soon as I ran my first background check (10 minutes after paying) and they still wouldn't give me a full refund. This website is very deceptive and offers little information for anyone to really find out someone's character. Checkmate probably had the 4 positive reviews written by company employees themselves. Please do not use this site. It received 9.8 stars when looking up sites with background checks. There is no way that this is valid.

I too have been a victim of their unscrupulous billing practices. I am so upset that I did not read these reviews before signing up for a one time report. Stay far away from this service. I agree with most of the negative comments. Their team that responds to these negative reviews must be very busy, although all of the responses are probably just "copy and paste" crap.
