Some customers are under the impression that when you purchase a membership with our company you are paying for records; unfortunately, this is not the case. The service that is provided is actually the compiling of all the public records data and the sorting of the data into an easy to read format. When a customer pays for a public records search, we do guarantee that we will search every database available to us, however, we cannot guarantee which records will or will not show up in the final report since we are not in control of the records themselves. We simply display records as they are provided to us.In addition, premium databases are also more expensive for us to access, so in an effort to keep our monthly membership costs down, we must charge a small, one-time access fee to compile premium reports for our customers.A premium upgrade is not required to view basic information. I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
The refund of my payments IS acceptable, even generous. BUT I disagree with the opening sentence in the final paragraph of the Instant Checkmate response, namely that "the concerns mentioned in the original complaint have been addressed...." I wanted to purchase a report, and I was willing to pay Instant Checkmate's fee for that, but I did NOT want to purchase a MEMBERSHIP. What I found deceptive here was the requirement that I purchase the membership in order to obtain the report and thereby I set myself up for recurring monthly payments. It is this practice of Instant Checkmate that I object to and that I think should be changed. I'm even willing to give back their $47.71 refund if they would do that.

If Mr. [redacted] believes an additional account may have been created under his information, we will need him to provide any additional email addresses he could have potentially used to sign up. Once we have this email address(es), we can investigate further and ensure all accounts under Mr. [redacted]’s name have been cancelled.

Instant Checkmate.com compiles reports from millions of public records including information provided by state and local governments. All of the information contained in our reports is part of what is referred to as the "public record."
We do apologize for any confusion Ms. [redacted] may have experienced regarding our services. Some customers are under the impression that when you purchase a membership with our company you are paying for records; unfortunately, this is not the case. The service that is provided is actually the compiling of all the public records data and the sorting of the data into an easy to read format. When a customer pays for a public records search, we do guarantee that we will search every database available to us, however, we cannot guarantee which records will or will not show up in the final report since we are not in control of the records themselves. We simply display records as they are provided to us.
In addition, premium databases are also more expensive for us to access, so in an effort to keep our monthly membership costs down, we must charge a small, one-time access fee to compile premium reports for our customers.
