Review: I purchased the Pimsleur language learning program for $9.95 online. A month later I receive the Pimsleur language gold package, with no return slip or anything in the box other than just the Pimsleur learning program. Two months later they start mailing me letters saying my account is past day in the amount of $256. Yesterday I tried calling to say that I don't want the product, that I want to return it, and that I never actually ordered it. The agent [redacted] started arguing with me about it, and then said "well then we'll send the collection agency after you" or something very similar to that. Given that I didn't order this set, given that it was sent to me regardless of whether or not I wanted it. Then take on the fact that there was nothing in the box as far as to why I received the product, or return information, or even payment information, I don't want this crap. I tried contacting the company and was threatened with a collections agency. I'm not going to give my hard-earned money to a company that scams people for a living, and then threatens it's customers.Desired Settlement: I want them to pay for the shipping labels, the box to ship it in, and for them to accept the merchandise, and to stop contacting me. Since they sent it without my consent or knowledge, with no information at all, and no return policy, tracking number, invoice number, or anything in the parcel.

Review: I am writing about an Internet scam and cheating being done by the above company for which I am a victim, so are another 400+ people.

The modus operandi followed by this company is that this company lures customers into buying a basic Spanish CD course for $9.95. At every step, they will hide from the customer that they will send another ‘Gold course’ to the customer, and do not disclose that they will be subsequently charged $256 for that. They do not explicitly ask the consent or inform the customer while placing the order. Even when they send the Gold course they indicate in the bill that it is Free and do not disclose any where on the bill that there is any cost associated to this. Neither do they provide any information about the return process. They use the credit card information provided for the first purchase to start imposing charges for the second 'non-requested' package for the amount of $256. The unsuspecting customer gets to know this after a month when they see the credit card or bank statements. If for any reason your credit card has expired or is cancelled they will send you with collections notice and threaten that you will be reported to the credit bureau to ruin your credit history.

They had done the same thing to me- On Jul 20, 2012 I ordered 'Quick and Simple Spanish CDs' for $9.95 from the Pimsleur Approach.com. I had ordered only this product and was not disclosed of any additional charges. I had paid for this and received the CDs few weeks later and the statement clearly showed the charges $9.95 which I had paid. The brochure sent along with this package also did not disclose anything about additional $256 charges that I will have to pay. Few weeks later, I received another set of CDs. The statement said the charge was 00.00. 8 months later on April 27, 2013 I received a letter, which for the first time was mentioning that I owe $256. The letter sent by Pimsleur on Apr 27, 2013 (though dated as 1 Apr, 2013 in the letter) also had the warning that if I do not pay I will have to face ‘drastic collection consequences’.

I called up customer service on May 7, 2013 and spoke to Customer Service representative [redacted]. I mentioned that I ordered only the $9.95 product and I did not want any other product. Also I mentioned that it was not disclosed to me at any point that I will be charged additional $256. The customer rep tried explaining that it will be mentioned so inconspicuously somewhere in the website few links deep. Again, the company is trying to cheat, misguide and mislead the customer every possible way. I indicated that I did not want any other product than the one I specifically ordered for, and I want to return the ‘gold’ package (none of the CDs from either package was opened) and asked her to provide me a RMA and return address. I was told that they will not accept return shipment. I indicated that I would anyway send the package back with tracking as I never wanted the item that I never ordered.

Sir, I have exhausted all options to resolve the problem with the company, and therefore need your kind help. This is a company that follows all dishonest business practices

- They would never explicitly disclose that they would send another package worth $256 when ordering a package of $9.95

- They would charge customer's credit/debit card info from one purchase to impose another

- They would return shipment if someone returns the product

- They would add someone to spam so that the customer cannot reach them (emails sent would bounce back to the sender)

- They would hang up on customers who call to complain

- They use all types of deceptive tactics where they do not reveal to the customer upfront the cost and try to use scare tactics like they would initiate collection proceedings.

Again this is an issue faced by at least 400 other consumers, as you can see from the below links. I am sure there would be many more hundreds who have not reported on the websites. [redacted]

This company PimsleurApproach.com deals with deceptive business practices, predatory business practices, and that their presentation is false on multiple levels. They are threatening me with 'drastic steps and collection consequences'. These types of harassments are causing a lot of mental agony for me. I am sure lot many people are also put through this harassment. Therefore I request that you kindly investigate this issue and do the needful to stop this company from doing the practice of cheating innocent people, following dishonest business practices, threatening people with ‘collections consequences’ and causing mental agony.Desired Settlement: I ordered only the $9.95 product and I did not want any other product. Therefore

1. I want the company to accept the return of Gold package and remove the $256 charge.

2. Also I want the company to stop harassing me with threats such as drastic collection steps

Review: This is an addendum to a complaint filed 4/23/13. ([redacted]). I contacted Pimsleur Approach customer service today and was told again that they would quit sending me products and there was a "glitch" in their computer system. They acknowledged that I wasn't supposed to receive materials from them. I asked for written confirmation that they were cancelling any further shipments to me and they agreed. However, they refused to confirm that they would delete my credit card info. [redacted], the supervisor, said they couldn't delete the credit card info. I talked with Pimsleur.com which is a different company ([redacted]). They said they receive hundreds of complaints from customers daily because The Pimsleur Approach (different company) keeps sending products to custormers who have bought products from Pimsleur.com. How is this possible for another company to get my information?

It appears that I'm going to have to cancel my credit card unless you can help me get it deleted on their systems. Can you help with that? Can you tell me any other agencies that may help me with this? I feel like I'm being harrassed and held hostage by this company who sends me products, then I have to spend my own time and effort to constantly return it. There must be something else I can do.Desired Settlement: All contact information for me is deleted from their systems, including credit card information. I want written documentation from The Pimsleur Approach that all info has been deleted and that I will never receive any other products from The Pimsleur Approach. I want appropriate state and federal agencies notified that this company is practicing advertising harrassment. I don't want to have to cancel my credit card to avoid these people. Thanks for your help.

Review: I purchased a $10 language cd from Stroll but did not know nor authorized Internet Order LLC to shipped me 2 packages and charge my credit card for the 2 packages shipped. I called Internet Order once I found out about the charge. Internet Order right away refuse to accept both packages back, saying the package pass its 30 day return policy without hearing my cases and said a third package is on my way and I will have to paid to ship my third package back. There wasn't any paperwork to say that I agree and no billing statement to let me know that I had purchase them. Internet Order went ahead and charge my card 4 time for the first package and 2 time for the second package before I caught the charge.Desired Settlement: I want a full refund for the unauthorized credit card changes ($393.6) and the return shipping fee I now will incur for shipping the product back to them.

Review: In August I was in the process of moving from one location to another when a package was delivered to my old addressThe package was ultimately tucked away in a box with other ite** and stashed away until I needed an item or ite** in the boxApproximately days later I received a past due notice from Pi**leur stating that I was days past due in paymentsI went to retrieve the only package they could have been talking about and opened itI did not order any products from them other than the original cassette tape in July Apparently, they had checked boxes or some other misleading tactic that led to the arrival of the second set of tapesI immediately called the phone number that was provided on the noticeTheir customer service stated that I was beyond the return period and needed to pay them $immediately
I asked to speak to a supervisor and they told me that one was not available at that timeI told them I will call backI called back the next day and customer service stated that they had given my name and number to a supervisor and was scheduled for a call backNo one ever called me backSo called, yet again, within days of the first callNow, there was a recording stating that the number I have reached was no longer in serviceHere it is approximately one month later and I am getting more demand for payments from themAll I want to do is send their tapes back to them and squash this matterThis company's practices are both unreasonable and unethical.Desired Settlement: I'd like to file an official complaint against this company and request that they change their policy from making automatic deliveries to people expecting them to respond to them and pay for their productPeople do not always have the time to examine or go through extra steps to make sure they get their product back ESPECIALLY IF THEY DID NOT ORDER THEM IN THE FIRST PLACEThey also need to mail this product back to them as it has not been touchedThis is a tactic and technique that should be against the law

Review: I ordered a language CD for $9.95 form Stroll-Pimsleur Approach in August 2012 (which I was billed for)

I then received two more packages from the company of 16 CD's each (which I did not order)

I then received a notice that I owed $512.00 for the CD set that they had sent to me.

I thought it was a scam and ignored it they resent the same message and threatened to send me to collections.

So I called the company and told them I didn't want the CD's and I wanted to send them back, they told me I couldn't send them back it was to late.

I don't want my credit to be affected by this scam. And I want them to take there CD's back and leave me alone.

The company trying to collect from me is Internet Order LLC [redacted]

Review: I ordered a $0 "special promo" Spanish language learning CD for my daughter in March 2014. We received that box. Then I was mailed an unsolicited box of further Spanish Language learning CDs and billed $64! When I called to complain they said the initial $10 special said you would be automatically signed up for a $64 monthly set of CDs to be mailed to you. I said ABSOLUTELY NOT. I returned the CDs and was given a $10 credit and a $64 credit. Then I was rebilled the $64! I called and had them remove the charge. Then a month later they added it again! I was told by my bank that since I had used a debit card the company would be able to continue fraudulently billing my account. I cancelled my debit card. Now, even though I refused any further orders, and refused to participate in their monthly orders program, and have not received any further shipments, they have mailed me a bill for $192!!! Un-be-lievable.Desired Settlement: Internet Order LLC needs to 1) refund my $64 and give me proof in the form of a letter that this $192 bill is being removed and that they will STOP BILLING ME!

Cease & desist already.

Review: I ordered a $10 language software online. About a month later another package came in the mail saying "30 free trial." So I called and immediately said I did not order this and wanted to return it. I was assured a return label would be e-mailed to me within 10 days. After 2 weeks I called back telling them I did not receive the label and was assured that I would have it within 30 days. I still did not receive the label. Now 4 months later I was sent a letter saying I owed $256! I immediately called and the company refuse to supply me with 1.Proof that the label was sent 2.That I actually ordered this product 3.That I "signed" for the contract they believe I am in. When I asked to talk to a supervisor they also refused to let me do that. I have made it very clear that I wanted these three things as soon as possible but was simply told "We cannot give out that kind of information."Desired Settlement: My account with this company to be closed.

Review: Pimsleur initially offers very inexpensive language learning, but it turns out to be very expensive. Offers a few disks for 9.95 but then auto-debits your card for 64.00 a month. ( I didn't know this until I received the first disk). It is obviously their intention to have you not recognize that they will charge later. I called to cancel and complain that I did not order the additional cds. They told me I was obligated because I had accepted these terms when I ordered the inital trial offer for $9.95. They continue to auto-debit my account even after I have cancelled and repeatably called to stop shipment and charges.Desired Settlement: I would like to prevent others from being caught up in this awful scam and I would like to get my money back. They have charged me a total $448 for products I did not order, and only received one shipment (Spanish IV) though they claim they sent me levels 1-3 as well.

Review: Made the mistake of ordering a $10 intro lesson and have since been billed hundereds of dollars for disks I never knew were coming and have tried to find out how to return the un-ordered language disk's ( dated 2003 ) and requested a month ago, that they never send me anything ever again.Just received another shipment of un-ordered, unwanted, and unused disk's.Desired Settlement: have them stop sending me material that is not wanted or ordered. They have been advised once already not to send me anything.

Review: I was baited with an advertisement to purchase a single CD for basic French language instruction then the Company, without my authorization, switched me to a long term contract where they make fraudulent and unauthorized recurring charges to my credit card. I have the receipt for the purchase of the single CD and it makes no mention of any long term program to make recurring charges to my credit card.Desired Settlement: Remove the fraudulent charge of $64 from my Credit Card.

Response:

Review: It was advertized that I would receive 8 conversation-oriented language lessons on 4 CDs for with free shipping and a 30 day money back guaranty. I did receive four CD's at the beginning of May prior to my trip to China, but a couple of days later I received a 2nd package from them. I thought it was a mistake and I was sent 2 copies of the same CDs and left the box in my office. I took the first shipment, that I had already opened, and brought it with me on my trip to China. I was there for a couple of weeks. When I returned there were several other business trips and my family was together for my son's wedding. Meanwhile, I forgot all about the 2nd box that I had received. Then I received an email at the end of August that I owed them $256.00. When responded to the email, I was told that I had agreed to accept the whole course after 30 days and be charged 4 payments. Their problem was that they couldn't charge my credit card after the first 9.95 was charged. There are several problems here. Their web page is so scrambled with the 9.95 offer and having 30 days to return it if you don't like it, there is nothing about committing to a $256 dollar investment, or at least it is so hidden that even when I look for it, I can't seem to find it. And why wasn't I contacted after the first charge didn't go through? Or the 2nd? Or the 3rd? Why contact me for the whole amount at the end of August? More importantly, now I realize, I received the course before having 30 days to try out the first 4 CDs, just to have them rammed down my throat before I understood what was happening.Desired Settlement: I only want to return the CDs they sent, that I didn't listen to and I didn't want. I also want: When they say "Continue in the Rapid Learning Program" That should be in bold letters with the words "four payments of $64.00 each" or "for $256" so there is no confusion that I did not by a few language CD's for $9.95 and that I would receive the full course in a few days, not in a month or so. That is what I want.

Review: I ordered a language CD for $9.95 on trial. Without my authorization I was sent a number of additioanl CD's for which, withoiut my knowledge or authorization, they charged my credit card two payments of $64 and are now threatening a collection action for an additional $384.

I offered to send all of the CD's back to them but they are refusing to accept te return shipment. On the internet listed under "Ripoff Report" Complaints, Reviews, Scams ther are many individuals who have had similar problems with this company who, in my opinion, is preying on unsuspecting indivisduals who believe that the cast is $9.95.Desired Settlement: I would like them to accept the CD's I have tried to return and refund the $128 they charged to my credit card

I decided that it's not for me so I called to cancel the lady told me I couldn't and gave me a hard time after I asked for the address to send the cd's back. Review: I completed an online survey and at the end of the survey you were to pick a prize. Once you picked the prize you were required to pay shipping and handling, which I did. However when my gift arrived and opened the box I was horrified to find a note thanking me for purchasing the quick start Spanish lesson and you will be sent future lessons in the mailed and billed accordingly. After reading this I became angry at the survey company and shot off an emails stating the company is not aurhorized to send me any additional CD lessons. Of course an additional set of CD'S did arrive at the house. I admediately called Pimsleur to repeat I do not want these lessons and I want them returned. The gentleman on the phone stated you have a free trail so keep them and used them. I told the lerson in no uncertain terms that I do not want the lessons. I stated since I was not interested they shoiuld go back now. However he said went the free evaluation time ws over he would personally notify me to returm the CD'S. None of this happened and Pimsleur is now billing me $256.00 and is refusng to take the product baxk.i

They have charged me $68.48 on 10/31/2014. Review: In June I ordered a product for $9.95. When it arrived, I thought that would be the end of it. When I got a second shipment, I thought it was a gift. I did not open the package because I was gone and was far too busy to worry about it. When I got the third shipment, I was puzzled about why they kept sending these boxes to me.

Then, on 10/14/14 I got a small orange greeting card envelope with a letter dated 10/6/2014 and stating that I should pay $384. This was a complete surprise to me.

This very sudden bill was not even in a business envelope. I opened one of the boxes and found that there was no statement, invoice or bill.

I called the company to ask about it. I talked to a woman and stated that I wished to return the shipments. She said that I could not because I did not have a return authorization number. I asked if she could send me one and she said that she would not because it was past the thirty day trial period. I then stated that I could not afford to pay $384. She started to become very rude. I told her that I was going to send it back, since I have not opened the packages except the one to see what it was about.

These shipments were not authorized by me. The company should not assume that I wanted more.Desired Settlement: a billing adjustment reflecting a zero balance and acceptance of the return shipments without a return authorization.

Review: I had fallen behind in course work and appalled last month to get the service cancelled. They proceeded to work with me and suspend payment to allow me to catch up and would start services again in December. When I looked @ this months statement they charged me twice 3 days apart from one another and did not follow thru with the request that they agreed upon.Desired Settlement: I believe the business should refund the current charges and issue and apology and cx my services promptly since they can not abide by there own tactics of keeping me as a customer by working with me as was stated they would do.
