J.F. Sobieski Mechanical Contractors Inc. Reviews (202)

Sobieski was in the process of working through the issues and has responded directly to the customer since this complaint was received.  The mechanical issues have been resolved by replacing the faulty equipment.  Sobieski agrees that we owe the customer the $200 for the line set that was...

not replaced.  Sobieski has reviewed the utility invoices provided by the customer and is making the customer an offer of and additional $200 payment based on the increase noted.[redacted]

Sobieski beleives that this complaint is without merit.  While Sobieski understands the cusotmer's predicament Sobieski performed as promised and the customer actually owes Sobieski most of the money from the original quote.  We say most because we stopped work when we found out they...

did not intend to pay for the completed work and it was determined that they were not going to occupy the residence.  Bssed on the customer's signature Sobieski acted in good faith and ordered parts for the job, returned to the job, perfoemd additional work and we expected to be paid for that work.  AT this time Sobieski is out the costs of the labor and the parts and it doesn;t appear that we will be compesated for that work.On 2/10 Service Technician [redacted] C. first went to [redacted] in Wilmington. The customers paid the $99 diagnostic fees at that time. [redacted] determined that the home had a 30+ yr old furnace. [redacted] recommended a level 4 service and  complete replacement of the system due to the age and condition of the system. He gave an estimate of $574 for the service. At this time, services were declined. On 3/12 Technician [redacted] B. went to the residence to gather more information about the system and to prepare and estimate for overall servicing. He was able to determine that the unit needed $574 boiler cleaning, $749 smoke pipe replacement, $319 plugged chimney cleaning. They were told that the chimney was collapsed and that even after all the work, it may still not work properly.  Because of the age of the unit, several special order pieces were required- 9”smoke stack, and 4” smoke stack.  [redacted] collected 50% of the estimate, $1062, as a down payment. This was done per a conversation [redacted] had with the landlord. This was to have him order the parts, which he did.  On 3/16 we received a call from [redacted]. She was requesting the $580 be refunded to her because the home had been condemned. There was confusion at that time as to who was requesting the refund, a tenant or a homeowner. The name on the account is Dwight Anderson, and the phone number was different. I called that number and spoke to Mr. Anderson. I asked him about the refund and who the homeowner was. He let me know that [redacted] was the homeowner and she was in NY. Ms. [redacted] was his wife, and they actually no longer wanted the refund, they wanted the work done. The next call was scheduled at that time, and I stopped the refund process. [redacted] was in contact with the landlord via text and Service Manager [redacted] H. was in contact with the homeowner via email.   On 3/19 we arrived at the residence. The condemned tag was on the home. It was condemned as unfit for habitation. The city had shut off the gas and the water. The home was still being  lived in. [redacted]  and [redacted] H  came to the home to assess what work could be completed. The homeowner was in NY at the time. Since we would have needed permits to be in the home to do any major work, [redacted] cleaned the chimney base, $319, to see if it was ok. The boiler was also checked and determined that it needed repairs and they recommended replacement. They stopped work at this point. The tenants refused to sign the invoice because they did not want to be held accountable for the total cost of the job. Ms. [redacted] then called the call center requesting that the $580 be returned to her because we did not complete the job, and the home was still condemned. I let her know that at this time we would need to refund any money to the homeowner. Ms. [redacted] was not happy with this response stating that she is the one that took out the 500$ for [redacted] a few days earlier. I later spoke to Mr. Anderson and Mrs. [redacted]. It was decided that any refund could go to Mr. Anderson and Ms. [redacted], but work was already completed so no refund is due.Our position is that we did a portion of the work. It was approved by the homeowner and the tenants when it was started, and no refund is due at this time. Sobieski acted in good faith and has incurred costs to provide service to the cusotmer's home.  Several trips have been made tothe home to accomodate the customer.  We understand that they are in a difficult situation, but Sobieski provided services over and above the compensation collected.Attached is the Service ticket with the cusotmer's signature and the details of the costs to repair the system.  a copy was left with the cusotmer at the time of the 3/12 Service call.  No ticket was left on 3/19 because there was no transaction.

At Sobieski we strive to meet the expectations of all our customers & apologize for the less than satisfactory experience Ms. [redacted] has had.
After pulling the initial incoming call the report made was there was "a hot water heater leaking" at a home owned by Ms. [redacted]...

& currently being occupied by tenants. On 5/24/16 our technician went to the home & was informed by the tenants that there was no hot water.  After the technician observed the hot water heater was actually sitting in water he contacted the manufacturer.  The manufacturer recommended replacement as A) there is currently no hot water & B)the unit was sitting in water.
Ms. [redacted] called back in on 06/30/16 & stated the unit was leaking again.  A technician was dispatched on 7/1/16 & it was determined the water heater was not the cause of the leak.  After receiving a complaint from the customer, the service manager [redacted] contacted Ms. [redacted] & explained that based on our findings the hot water heater was in fact leaking & replacement was recommended not only by Sobieski but by the manufacturer as well and to the best of our knowledge there was no misdiagnosis completed by our technician.  [redacted] offered to complete a site visit at the home but the customer only wanted a refund of $1256.00 which we felt was not warranted due to the initial complaint, condition of unit and manufacture recommendation.

Thank You,

Office Manager

I have had HVAC and plumbing service with Sobieski since 2010. They are friendly, professional, timely, thorough, explain the work or any service needs, and clean up before they leave. Brandi and Lisa are very helpful on the phone, appointments are easy to get, quickly or in the future, and emergency response time is excellent (had one.) I also had both my AC and heating systems replaced with a "Heatpump" system last year and they did a great job.
This winter, Dec. 2015, a pipe-joint became separated, leaked and caused damage. Upper and middle-management got involved, along with service personnel, quickly, and coordinated a multi-point repair that left no stone unturned and actually repaired or replaced above and beyond to make sure that all was as-good-as new and, in some aspects, actually NEW.
I have never had better service from any company, and I have had some excellent service in the area of electrical work, automotive work, and remodeling.
In particular, Tom P., Brian, Chris, Brandi, and others (can't remember everyone's name but I will recognize them) earned praise.

We recently had our semi-annual maintenance service inspection done by tech. Chris P. Chris has performed this service for us several times over the years and has always been courteous, knowledgable and thorough. During his last visit we were also impressed with his eagerness to learn more about the plumbing side of the business.

Our recent experience with Sobieski has been very professional and timely. Their employees were informative, knowledgable and courteous.

Josh D[redacted] handled the service call. Installed 2 wifi thermostats & an internet RedLink. Good knowledge of the equipment & installation issues. Handled the job professionally & promptly.

Excellent service

[redacted] came to troubleshoot why our brand new heater, which we used for the first time since it was installed 3 months ago would not remain on. It fired up but after a minute or two, the blower stopped. [redacted] was polite, wore booties, listened to our problem, worked quickly, checked the heater and outside unit several times and within 15 minutes found the problem which he was able to fix within 5 minutes. He then explained what had happened and how he fixed it. We were very pleased and would like to have him back when we have a need for a technician. He had worked until 9:30 the night before, and yet arrived at our home in the given time range-driving from DE to above Phila for our morning appointment We were very pleased with him and Sobieski.

Technician was on time, polite and took care while in the property. Friendly and did a nice job.

Andre, from Sobieski, responded for our annual PM service this week. He was efficient, polite , did a good job, and made some reasonable suggestions regarding furnace filters which will save me a few $$. We discussed cost of leveling my compressor and adding a surge protector on the unit.. I will address these issues with the service department in the near future.

Stephen R was very professional, friendly and most of all, went above and beyond. The unit had a burnt wire, but he didn't just fix it, he explained that he would perform some checks to identify the cause of the burnt wire. There was another piece not working properly which was most likely the cause of the issue. He also installed a wifi thermostat and took the time to help me program and set up the account online. Thanks Steve!

Prompt, courteous, and very professional, Khalid performed his maintenance tasks quickly an kept me abreast of his progress. Highly recommend Khalid!

[redacted] is a terrific representative for Sobieski Services. He is courteous, extremely thourogh, competent and prompt. We could not be any happier with the services he performs for us at our house. [redacted] was with him and he also is a tremendous representative for Sobieski. I can not praise them enough. Later in the day Scott, from the plumbing division, came to our house and he too represented the company in fine fashion. Sobieski is very fortunate to have such wonderful employees.

Great job! Professional and knowledgeable!
Thanks!

THANK YOU MR. KHALID A. FOR PROFESSIONAL SERVICES ON MY LENNOX HEAT PUMP. FRIENDLY,CLEAN,ONTIME...

The client called into our office on 01/25/16 stating the oil boiler was leaking.  On 01/27/16, our technician was out to the client’s home to diagnose the...

boiler.  The technician observed raw fuel oil leaking out of the drain hole located in the burner chassis.  To properly diagnose the source of the leak, the technician opened the transformer and visually inspected the following components: end cone, oil nozzle, high pressure oil line.  Unburned fuel oil was observed in the blast tube and chassis, indicating poor ignition.  At that time, a transformer field test was completed and intermittent operation observed.  Due to the age of the equipment (20+ years old), our technician recommended a replacement transformer and an upgraded oil burner safety control.   Our standard book price for both components is in excess of $900, which the customer declined this option.  The customer was presented a second option of replacing only the failed transformer (not upgrading the safety control) with approximate cost of $487, which the customer also declined.  The customer insisted the work being completed free of charge which was not an option as the customer does not have a warranty, or plan with our company, Sobieski.  Unhappy with this diagnosis and price, the customer called into the Customer Service office demanding a Manager.  The General Manager contacted the client and went over the complete diagnostic, offered the repair again along with a one year warranty on replaced parts with option to apply the immediate repair cost ($487) towards replacement within one year, suggested the client contact their oil company for a second opinion, and the client still refused the repair.  The General Manager also authorized the part to be picked up at a local vendor, making the part available if the customer accepted this option after hours.
The customer’s complaint involves a dispute of $487, which the customer has never paid and has not accrued any charges from Sobieski during this visit.  At this point, Sobieski is not prepared to offer any settlement with this client, as there were never services rendered or paid.

Great service in timely fashion. Donovan was very professional and explained everything that he was doing during the repair.

very happy with quality of service provided by this technician and by the firm. Very helpful in solving the problem, and exhibits professionalism to his job.

Our company has reached out to Miss [redacted] at the number provided.  We have left a message on her voicemail.  Due to the circumstances, we would like to send out our Service Manager to give the customer's boiler a thorough evaluation.  Any install related issues will be...

addressed and fixed immediately.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
