Peco Energy Company Reviews (199)

Review: I have been getting shut off notices from PECO for a rear apartment on my property. I called PECO in Febuary and advised that I do not have a rear apartment on my property. I spoke with someone name [redacted] (ID# [redacted]) who said there was an apartment. I advised that there was no apartment, it was a single fmily home and had never been an apartment. [redacted] said that there was and that was it. He said the previous tenet did not apply for service. When I provided the name of the previous owner he said that was not the name on the account. The name I gave him was the name of the previous owners. I called back and asked for a Supervisor. I spoke with another Representative [redacted] who checked and advised that there was no apartment at my address. [redacted] stated that it was a mistake and there was no problem. My account was in excellent status and my bill is always paid early. [redacted] said that the notice was a mistake and that had it been valid someones name would have been on the notice. [redacted] advised to disregard the notice. On 07/08 PECO disconnected the power in part of my house. When I called I again spoke with the same [redacted] who continued to say that there was an aparment and that my home was not a single home. [redacted] continued to say that I had to apply for service. How can I apply for service for something that does not exsist. I have young children, an elderly mother and pets in the home. This is causing a health concern. [redacted] would not allow me to speak with a Supervisor when I asked several times.Desired Settlement: The full power returned to my home immediately!!! This resolved once and for all!!!

Review: I bought a business and immediately requested to have service turned on in my name. I submitted all of the required paperwork and I called to follow-up on the application. When I spoke to the representative I was told that I needed to submit proof of transfer of business and to correct some information on my application. I made the requisite changes and resubmitted the application along with the business transfer documents. I again waited and never heard anything. I called to follow-up on the application and was told that I would have to make a payment on someone else's bill before I could get service and in the meantime the service has been threatened to be terminated every week. In fact, the service was terminated one day during business hours however it was restored within 24 hours after I called to explain the situation to customer service. I then resubmitted my application and again was told either the previous owner or myself would need to pay the past due balance.

I have tried to get the previous owner to make payment of the bill but she insists that she is insolvent and unable to pay. She stated that she was in bankruptcy which is why she sold the business to begin with. Accordingly, I have been stuck in the middle of an issue that has nothing to do with me except for the fact that this issue is threatening my business. I honestly feel like I'm being held hostage for a bill that is not my responsibility. Now, I am receiving shut-off notices every week and the previous owner no longer accepts my calls. I'm told that the account balance of more than $5000 will need to be paid before my application will be considered for approval.Desired Settlement: I would like to have service started in my name. The only reason stated for the denial is that the previous owner has a large outstanding balance however, that should not have a bearing on my application for service.

Review: There was service on at several residences where I did not reside, my ex-wife had the service in my name and not only did not pay but was also caught on two ooccasions with illegal connections. Ithink they charged $7,500.00 per incedent.I had separate services at another address in [redacted] Pa,on [redacted] in may of 2011PECO decided to combine the two accounts. I went to the PUC the were not very helpful, I have chronic sleep apnea in which I need electricity to operate. In January 2014I had a third hip surgery my surgeon filled a medical request form and PECO still refused me service. I would like some reasonable arrangements as well as affordable, the two accounts separated and I would be more than happy to pay for the bill from [redacted] ars well as [redacted] Pa. As long as they're accurate I'm still recovering from my hip replacement on July 1, 2014 thank you in advance for any and all of your helpDesired Settlement: First and foremost my services restored, a fare and reasonable payment arrangement, updated reports to the credit agencies, as well as a letter of apology, THE SITUATION HANDLED IN A TIMELY FASHION!

Review: On March 7 2013, a technician that was employeed by PECO knocked on my door stating they had to change the electric meter on my home. At that time he told me to power off all tvs and computers and the power would be out for a few minutes. After 15 minutes he knocked on the door stating there was an issue and the electric would be out for an unknown extended period of time while he waited for his supervisor to come to my house. Power was restored to my home with out me seeing the supervisor at all or the technician again. Later on that day I went outside to check out the new meter that was supossed to be installed on my home only to find the absence of a meter. I then expected to hear something from PECO in regards to my situation only to wait a month to receive an "estimated" bill for "my usage". When in fact for half of said bill myself and my family weren't in the home because we were out of the country so very little electric was being used. I called PECO with my concerns over the bill and was told it would be resolved within 30 days and that they were working on having the repairs made and getting a replacement meter on my home. An additional 30 days have now passed and I received another bill with no corrections made to the previous bill and current bill being "estimated" at a higher usage than it has ever been for the same billng cycle for the previous years. I had to call PECO again and asked to speak to a supervisor, the operator told me she was required to ask what the issue is, I gave her a brief explanation. She said I could disregard the bill again because they are still working on a resolution for the billing, I tried to explain that I want a meter on my home to end any future billing issues. She had to transfer me to a different department because she could not handle that. The next woman I spoke with was very difficult to work with. I am at the mercy of PECO, I can either hire my own electrician which PECO may not reimburse me for cost or it may take an additional 3 months for them to get someone out because they're technicians are so backed up. Which would mean I would have to deal with bills that PECO guesses the amount of electric I use. She then informed me I am living in unsafe conditions because of defective equipment. She also wants me to jump through hoops by giving her a list of every appliance in my home to figure out my "billing issue". I was told they go off of previous bills for the same month for the estimated usage, yet for the same billing cycle from last year they are saying I'm using 84 more kilowatts this year, which how can you say I'm using more when I don't have a meter! She told me someone would be in contact with me, when I asked when she told me "she was unsure". On April 8th 2013 I stepped out of my house for 20 minutes to pick my son up from school and of course that was when they called me back (at 1:59). I called her back at 2:16 15 minutes after she called me to no answer and as of 6:15pm I still have not heard back from them.Desired Settlement: The repair is my main concern because I am living in "unsafe condtions" but I would also like my bill to be ajusted. They are giving me a higher estimated bill than what the actual use was for the same billing cycle of previous years. PECO has me living in "unsafe condtions" because of their "defective equipment". They chose to change meters on homes in our area, we (as the consumer) did not have a choice. With this being a utility company I can not use another company.

Review: Peco seems to never work with their clients. They are always threatening a shut off with me and are always asking for high amounts to reinstate or stop a shut off. They basically force you into paying a huge amount and you will pay it because you don't want to be without services. I had a balance that was turned into a payment agreement but I noticed it went up a couple thousand. I was put on budget billing I never asked to be now I can't be removed.Desired Settlement: I would like a good chunk of my back balance taken off because I know I don't owe that much.

Review: The rental property I own and PECO provides electric to has caused some serious issues with PECO. I had a renter in the house that complained to PECO. PECO put the utility bill in my name without even contacting me. Then when I was notified of the activity by the renter 2 months later. The renter had ran up a $1200 electric bill. When I had the inspector out (from PECO) she stated that there wasn't anything I could do about the $1200 bill. That was a month later then receiving the $1200 bill, which had turned into a $1600 bill in my name. The renters just left leaving me with over a $2000 bill. PECO aided these renters in taking advantage of the system. Now, I have to pay a deposit to have electric because of PECO negligence. I have worked hard to rebuild my credit. PECO single handedly screwed that all up because they allow renters to abuse the system. PECO should go after the parties responsible for the charges and not me. But I guess that would make too much sense for PECO to actually follow thru on because I have to pay it and I have to have electric, so they will attack me to get the money.Desired Settlement: Credit my account the $2000 in charges and go after the renter for the charges they accrued. Remove any deposit amount need to have electric because the only reason it is there is because PECO didn't collect their money from the correct party and charged me without notification

Review: I was under the impression that my landlord was taking care of the electric in my apartment, come to find out I am the one that is responsible for the bill. Regardless on the 24 of October I woke up to no power, PECO decided to clip my service. I called and they stated I need to transfer service to my name, then proceeded to tell me it will take 3 business day to verfiy my ID and make sure the previous tenant doesnt live here. Today is the "third" day of this "investigation" and they keep telling me I need to wait for them to call me, I had to throw away 150$ worth of food that I bought on the 23rd, wasted 30$ on my internet that I couldnt use and I'm the one that has to wait.

Then on Monday I was informed that after this investigation that it could take upwards of 3 more days for them to turn service back on. Now I understand what and why they did what they did, but I never received any cut-off notice from the company or anything from PECO at all. Federal law states that the tentant must be contacted by phone, in person and have 3 letters mailed before they can clip service. Also this weekend is expected to drop into the 30's and I need heat since my heating is all electric.Desired Settlement: I would like to have the food I bought replaced, the internet fee's that I paid to be repaid and I want my damn power turned on

150$-Food

30$-Internet

100$-take-out food since I wasnt able to cook at home

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:I have still been waiting for unusually long period. 10-31 I received a call about placing me on a payment plan but when I called back I never was answered. Called multiple times with no response. Then I find out the license was sent to wrong dept, so wednesday 11-5 I resent the info and the service agent was very nice and told me that is what they are waiting for and then they can proceed with a payment plan and get service turned on. Called today 11-6, the license was submitted but im now getting told I have to wait another 3 business days for them to "review" the information. That will place my service turn on sometime next week and I already have gone two weeks without power.' I have money to pay these people but for the love of god they can't give me a straight answer or just get this resolved quickly

Review: My name is [redacted] and I have a problem with Peco concerning my bill. Its been about 6 months trying to get help wih this problem. Peco said our bill is $2,298.36 we have paid $1,549.31 already. Money that was paid was never deducted from the bill, they tell you thanks for your payment, so now we have late fees. [redacted] Energy make a mistake on our bill, they did refund our money but Peco never adjust the bill for $646.00. On March 13,2014 we received a bill saying we have a pass due amount for $242.75,we paid it and that was the last bill we received from them. Then we get a shut of notice for 1,850.03 (04/16/2014)thank you for your payment but never deducted from our account. May 20,2014 received a new bill for 114.25,a week later we receive a late charge bill for $167.41 we paid it they only credit us for $116.41,they own us $52.16. June 19,2014 bill $83.63 we paid it, but never received bill for July they claim it was sended out. July 18,2014 received shut off notice and $83.63 was added on the final notice, never got credit for my June payment. We have kept our electric on because my husband and I have medical problems. We are due to be shut off 07/28/2014 and was told by Tamaar they will not accept our medical script from our doctor. The medical script have to be renewed every 30 days. Right now I'm out of work due to my health and my husband lost his job. Also I would like to mention that we don't have a furnace in his house for heat,so why is my bills so high? We have all our receipts and we did try talking to Peco. Someone in that company is stealing money and it isn't fair we have to pay double bills. We have had a problem with Peco for the last 4 years, but no one would listen to us about the bill. Peco only say to us you need to pay your bill, they say thank but don't credit your account. Thank You for your help [redacted] (H ###-###-####) Feb we stared to get high billsDesired Settlement: We don't own them for this bill we already paid. I want this bill deleted.

Yes, they did shut us off on 10/01/2014. We had to get another prescript from my doctor because the one they received on 9/22/2014 the doctors license number wasn't on the script. Peco hasn't honor there first agreement with us. Peco still don't send us our monthly bill,so without the bill we are charged late fees for a bill we didn't receive, from the time we filed this complaint with BBC we haven't received our bill on time. Thank You, [redacted]

Review: PECO has mandated a change to all residential electricity meters. When the technician arrived at our house to complete the meter change, he would not change the meter because - according to him - the closet in which the current meter is located is too small. He stated that this would make the work difficult because of visibility issues, and told us to remove a large section of the wall of the house to facilitate the job. PECO will apparently cut off our electricity supply if we do not do this. On consulting a professional electrician about the problem, we were informed that the work presented no difficulties and could be completed in a matter of minutes. PECO, however, is refusing to let anyone other than a PECO technician complete the work. Although we have not chosen to receive a new meter, and although PECO is not prepared to pay for the partial demolition and replacement of our wall, we have been told that we will nonetheless be cut off if we cannot comply with the technician's request. We are due to have a new baby shortly, and are extremely concerned about the possibility that we may not have an electricity supply.Desired Settlement: Any one of the following options is acceptable: 1. PECO can send a well-trained professional who can complete the installation. 2. PECO can allow our electrician to complete the installation, which we will pay for. This is a more reasonable and economical option than demolishing most of an exterior-facing wall. 3. PECO can agree not to install the new meter, since it is not our choice but theirs to replace the old meter.

We believe that PECO in this case is abusing its monopoly position by trying to coerce us to make up at considerable personal expense for its technicians' lack of skills and/or motivation.

Review: On the 17th at 11am my power all the sudden went out. I thought a circuit breaker had tripped so I went and flipped all the switches. Still had no power at that point. I looked on my account to make sure that I accidentally didn't forget to pay my bill, however it said balance zero. I called peco and reported outage. System states by 4pm electric would be restored. 4pm comes around and no power. Called my maintenance department just incase something with apartment. They said everything is showing fine on their end. Called peco again and my status was there is no outage in your area. I reported outage again since I still didn't have power and then system says 11pm power will be restored. At 10pm I called peco and my status was no outage in area. Called my maintenance department and stated peco says everything is fine on their end. They came out and checked everything and said we don't see anything wrong, call peco. Called peco and actually spoke to emergency hotline. I stated apartment says its fine and your stating no outage can you have person come out and look. They stated they would have person come out and check. So I called back at 10pm that night and stated my power is still out, I had to throw away all my food. My apartment is cold and your telling me that it is nothing on peco's end. I said are you sure that it's not peco's end. Lady assured me nothing on peco end and that worker checked. Next day maintenance checks up and ask about power. I said still not restored. They said your neighbor got shut off notice couple days ago and we think that might be issue. They knocked next door and asked if she had power. Sure enough she did. Maintenance called peco and 45 minutes later they stated peco shut off the wrong meter. They shut yours off instead of your neighbor. You should have power within 24 hours. 5 minutes later my power went on and her's went off. I asked maintenance isn't everything controlled electronically, so shouldn't they have realized that they shut off wrong meter. They stated yea everything is electronic. So over $100 of food was thrown away, had to do with no heat, telephone shut off after 8 hours since battery then died so had to use friends cell phone, and sleeping in cold apartment since hotels were sold out around area. I could understand if this was due to storm, but ridiculous that actual worker checked my meter and said it was fine.Desired Settlement: I would like $100 for value of food thrown away, $318 value of average hotels for 2 nights stay, $100 for my troubles.

Review: I contacted PECO to open up an account for my medical practice that had moved. I was emailed an application and told to include my lease. No other information was asked for. I mailed the paperwork to PECO on the 15 of Sept 2014. In the paperwork it stated to give them 7 business days to process the order. 2 weeks later, still with no electricity, I contacted PECO to find out what happened. The representative stated that I was in the system but he could not find the paperwork and that the clerks who handled this must have lost them. He told me to fax new paperwork to the supervisor, Ms. G[redacted], which I did. He stated that if I faxed the application and my lease that afternoon I could get service by that Friday. The next day I got an email asking for proof of my employer id number from the IRS. This was not asked for on the application. I sent by fax proof of my ID number which took almost 2 hours. I am now being told that I can not get service for another 7 business days. I have cancelled over 300 patients because of this. Many of them are diabetic and need insulin. They cannot be seen if I have no electricity. Without electricity, I cannot use computers, or my fax or telephones. I cannot get the patients' labs or radiological studies. This is a hazard to my patients' lives. I did explain all of this to the representatives I spoke to today. I was told that the supervisor would speak to me but when she did not call back, I called again and was told the supervisor would not speak to my before 24 hrs had past. Originally I was told that she would speak to my today.Desired Settlement: I need a remedy to the problem ASAP. Lives depend on it. I want a courtesy and complimentary service. I would also want an apology in writing to show the patients who were inconvenienced and potentially harmed by PECO's actions.

Review: I used to live at [redacted]. I lived there for several years. I was a PECO customer for the several years I was in PA. I never had a late payment on my electric/gas bills. I sold my house in 2007 time frame. At the time of closing, the title company verified everything to make sure there were no outstanding energy/utility bills.

I heard recently from a collection agency that I owed PECO money. I am pretty sure there is a clerical error on PECO's part. But I have not heard from PECO that I owed them money. I called PECO today as soon as I hung up with the collection agency and after several holds they were finally able to trace a bill that they said is unpaid. They don't have a trace on the payments. For me to go back to the bank on a history of whats paid etc I am assuming there will be bank charges and incidental expenses. I may even have closed the account that I had in PA. If PECO wants me to furnish this information, I would like them to pay me for the expenses involved in digging up the receipts from 2007 and also incidental expenses required to spend time with the collection agency.

Also, what is puzzling is why PECO chose to not inform me all these years, but decided to call a collection agency on me for the $151.22. I am trying to figure out if this is late charges etc or the so called bill that I haven't paid in return for services?Desired Settlement: Peco corrects their billing error, provides me with a written statement that there is no outstanding dues from me.

PECO calls off the collection agency that is calling me to pay a bill due from 2007.

or

PECO pays for the incidental expenses, time and effort involved to go trace back accounts for payment history from 2007.

Review: Peco has made me pay a bill that did not belong to me and was not in my name. I moved from the property in 2010 and rented an apartment until 2012. They have shut off my gas service in the past and made me pay hundreds of dollars to have it turned back on. Peco would not change to bill to my name. I just had to pay $4,343.88 because they were threatening to shut the service off again. The gas bill had been in my name from 2001-2010 when it was changed to [redacted]. He used PECO's service from 2010-2012 and did not pay his bill. When I moved back to the property the bill was over $1,800. PECO insisted I pay [redacted]'s bill in full or they would not change the name on the account. [redacted] himself has contacted PECO to try to have his bill separated from mine. I have tried to work out this situation with PECO for 4 years now. I have provided PECO with everything they have asked for. I have provided a quit claims Deed for the property tha [redacted] signed to be taken off the deed to the home. I have provided pay stubs, copies of my driver's licence, work ID, and copy of my lease for the apartment rented when I was not living at the property. I do not receive bills from PECO at my home because [redacted]'s mail is forwarded to his new address.Desired Settlement: I would like PECO to refund the charges that were billed to [redacted] for services he used from 2010-2012. I would like to have the bill taken out of [redacted]'s name and the service put in my name as I am the person living at the property.

Review: Peco has charged me for services I never ordered from many years ago. I ordered services and was mailed a shut off notice around a week later. It stated I owed thousands of dollars from an address I never had services at. They stated I received state services and that my information was the only information in any networks of having ever been affiliated at that address. I tried to inform them that I NEVER had nor ordered services aT THAT LOCATION. I WENT DOWN TO THEIR OFFICE. I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO APPLY FOR A LOW INCOME PROGRAM AND A PAYMENT ARRANGEMENT before my services would be shut off within three days and then I could go to a seperate dept to dispute the bill. I applied to both the low income program and the payment arrangements. After I applied I asked the rep where I go at that point to dispute the old bill but I was then told since I agreed to the payment arrangement that was me agreeing to the accept the bill. I asked for a print out of bills from when they are billing me but she told me it was too far back and their records do not go back that far. I can't understand how they can even legally bill me for charges that they can not even go back in their system to?????Desired Settlement: I would like them to do the right thing and fix my account and not charge me for services I did not order nor use. I would like an apology. I would like for them to go over my records and see who the rep is that tricked me into signing a payment arrangement for charges I was telling her werent mine and her receive appropriate discipline for doing such a mean and unprofessional act against a low income, single mother of 3 children and threatening them of having no electric!!

I am rejecting this response because:

Regards,

Review: My electric was shut off on Friday Oct. 18th. When I called about it I was told it was because I had illegaly turned on the electric in August. I have a card that was left on my door on August 29th stating that they (Peco) had been there and turned on the gas and electric. When I told the representative that she called me a liar and said I had done it myself that she had no reciord of it. I again tried to explain that I had tha card from them and I would like the service turned back on. She started yelling that I had done it myself, they (Peco) were monitoring me and that if I was lucky I might have it back by today, Monday Oct. 21st. She was extreamly rude, loud and abrubt with me and kept telling me I was lieing, I would have to pay a $300.00 deposit and all past amounts from Aug. 29th to now.Desired Settlement: I cannot upload the card as I am unable to scan it. I could fax it with a fax number. I feel that I should not be charged a deposit as I was a customer in good standing when I transfered my account and I feel that I should be compensated for the food that I lost in the refridgerator and freezer due to the service being shut off. I also feel that my electric should be restored today. The representative was very rude, demeaning and unprofessional.

Review: I called Peco Energy Company to discuss making an adjustment to my bill. They had put a deposit on my account. I asked if I could get it removed. I was told I could make a payment arrangement for my past due balance and get the deposit waived if I signed up for automatic payments. I hung up and called my husband to check if that would be ok. I called Peco back and was told by the customer service agent that the credit department is the only one that can waive a deposit. I was transferred to the credit department that said they were not authorized to waive a deposit only customer service could. I was placed on hold, then another customer service agent answered and said that only half the deposit would be waived. I was then sent back to the credit department that said we can't waive the deposit only customer service can. I asked for a manager. The third customer service agent placed me on hold. When she came back she said the manager would not waive the deposit and that the credit department could make payment arrangements, but will not waive the fee either. I stated my energy carry is [redacted], not Peco. They said that Peco can assess a deposit and not [redacted].

I feel they were trying to lie to me to obtain my credit card information. I was trying to pay my past due balance and set up automatic payments to resolve the problem. That just want to obtain access to my account, so they could take out an authorized amount of money.Desired Settlement: I want the deposit waived.
