We are sorry that you did not receive the results you were hoping for. When you order a report, our system searches through billions of public records and collects every piece of relevant information. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf, not to return a specific result. We are unable to provide a refund, but we will be happy to offer you a free search to help you find the facts you need. Please review the Terms of Use on PeopleFinders.com if you would like more information about refunds or other policies.

I am rejecting this response because:I used another company and they provided a good current phone number.

As stated in our Terms of Use, we do not offer refunds for the product you ordered. The free courtesy search will remain on your account until it is used. You may elect to have that free exchange search ran at any time it has no expiration date. Just call our Customer Care department and a representative will run your search for you, free of charge.

Review: The site allows you to do a search on a name, then it assures you that it can provide the person's current address. "Current address available" is what it says on the left sidebar. Then it makes you pay to get it, and you find out the address is not current at all. This business should be forced to change the words "current address available" to "last known address available" because they cannot guarantee the address is "current". This is false advertising.Desired Settlement: I want them to stop using the words "current address available" on the site, and refund my money.

Business

Response:

Although PeopleFinders provides public records, we do not create or modify them in any way. We are only able to display the most current information provided in each record, so we cannot guarantee their accuracy. New public records are created every day, so PeopleFinders is always able to offer the most up-to-date and accurate information possible; however, this information must be publicly reported by the person. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf, not to return a specific result. You may elect to have that free exchange search ran at any time by calling our Customer Care department.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:Your website specifically stated that the person's current address was available. It is the ONLY reason I decided to pay the fee to see it. If it had said "last known address" I would not have paid to see it.

Review: I did a reverse phone look up it says that you get the full name address of annyoing callers so I tried it. all the gave me was the name my caller id does that and now they say they cant refund the 6.95Desired Settlement: I just want my refund thank you

Review: After speaking with the customer service before purchasing the product, I was under the impression that their would be cell phone numbers available for some of the searches. Unfortunately, there were NO results with cell phone numbers out of 50 searches! I wasted hours of my time and $15 of money. And they would not do a refund. What a scam.Desired Settlement: I want my money back. Dishonest salesperson and false advertising. How many searches need to be done before getting an accurate result?

I am rejecting this response because:the he email address associated with the account is [email protected]. Your product was Completly wirthless. And innacurate. I was finding the same phone numbers repeated for different searches- for different people. Not only was the info innacurate- there was not one helpful search for cell phone numbers out of 50+ searches! Not one. A scam. We want our money back.

We found your account under [redacted]. As a representative and a supervisor let you know over the phone on 4/20/2015, the charge of $14.95 is non-refundable per the Terms you agreed to and the extensive usage on your account. The automatic renewal of your membership is cancelled and there will be no automatic billing. Your membership will expire on 5/10/2015. Review: I bought a one time background report that had little to none information on it and it was not accurate. I found more information than the report in vital records on my own that totally rendered the report they generated inaccurate and out of date. Regardless they claim they are not responsible for the accuracy or if the information is outdated or not. At that they said if you have concerns or are displeased with any of the service they would provide another free search. Well, they did not offer a second report per their courtesy statement. Not that I would want a courtesy one anyhow as they don't have the integrity to retrieve appropriate report data or convey accuracy or get new information. I was informed upon my search that I would receive a copy of the report via email, but it did not come and then they wanted to charge me more once the report was generated online to send it via email. Their data is skimpy and invalid and they charge you for that knowingly or they would not need a disclaimer that states they are not responsible for their terrible "data." I think it is a scam for them to have a weak background check with insufficient data and not provide a good service, then to top that they advertise they will include a report via email then ask you for more money to email it after they generate the report. It is a miss advertisement to say it is reliable and dependable information as it is opposite of that. They charge you a lot of money for terrible reports. It is a shame and they should get the right people to update and validate their data appropriately to charge such prices to the public. I am also offended that they did not even have courtesy to offer a second search. THey should not advertise something they do not do.Desired Settlement: I would like either a refund and/or the truth be publicized about how this company operates. I will not have a problem to write another complaint or review via public media if this is not resolved.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:I appreciate that the company is now providing consideration of offering another search after the fact; however I believe they are not representing what they advertise. I would not want another bad report in exchange for the first bad report and they should have offered that right away upon my initial complaint to them and been kinder with respect to their customer service. People Finders advertise "quality, reliable, thorough, and most used" with respect to their reports, which is misleading and clearly mis-advertised. They advertise for a service, but then trump with policy knowing their data is not reliable, not updated, not thorough, not accurate. Are they selling what they advertise or are they selling policy? Isn't that a deceptive trade? What I have experienced is that they are not selling a service rather they are selling a policy that unfortunately tricks the public out of money for supposed thorough, quality, reliable reports etc. If they are the "most used" a refund to one person, me, would be a drop in the bucket. I cannot believe they are so stubborn for a "drop in the bucket" and waste so much time and energy. Unless now they worry that all the drops are going to add up... which they should. You would hope they would do the right thing. I will not use their site and will continue to advise the public through consumer reviews, public media, word of mouth, etc. to not utilize their "services" or information until they have more accurate and updated data from their "sources." If there has been approximately 250+ complaints on the Revdex.com record let alone various consumer reports outside of Revdex.com from people about PeopleFinders who tried their service, that is far too many and should say enough. I unfortunately have added to that list. In regards to "most used" perhaps it should read "most tricked." Shame on me for trusting in their advertised service. Thank you and I wish to no longer entertain discussion.

Review: I have been billed monthly for a service I did not use. I was billed for 24.95 X 9 months or 224.55. I was refused a refund even though I was not aware that I signed up for a membership nor have I ever used it.Desired Settlement: I want my money back , since I thought I was signing up for a one time search and I was not notified of any kind of a monthly membership. I have an gmail account and have records of all emails received by me.

Business

Response:

At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership. This membership allowed you to receive an unlimited number of:•People Searches – Get the facts you need to find anyone, anywhere•Email Searches – Obtain email addresses, or learn about the owner of any address•Marriage Searches – Find out if a man or woman has ever been married•Divorce Searches – Check the divorce status of any man or woman•Property Searches – Learn about any piece of property, including the current owner and valueYou had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone. We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial has ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee on the fourth day, and for every month thereafter. Per your conversation with a supervisor on 9/9/2015, and as a onetime courtesy, we have granted three refunds for the most current months of membership. Please allow 2-5 business days for the refund to process back into your credit or debit card. We have also cancelled your membership.

Review: Cease and Desist notification : I am requesting your company to please remove my personal name and information from your website and database. There are at lease 4 variations of my name on your site. My identity was stolen and I am requesting to have all my personal information removed. Also, please allow me to be OPTED OUT. The form you have online does not work properly and I could not use it .Desired Settlement: Request to REMOVE my name and information from all your website.

Please remove my name( s) There are at least 4 variations with the following :

1. first N. last name

2. first R. last name

3. first and last name

4. first and last name

As mentioned there are several variations so please remove all of them. Please include me as OPTED OUT. Since my identity was stolen it is very important to please remove all the information as soon as possible.

Thank you for your time and help

Business

Response:

Yes, we will absolutely opt you out. However, we only found 1 listing using your name city/state. We have opted that one out. You said there are at least 4 variations? Please provide us with those. Also please provide us with the URL link to those matches on our website so that we may remove them.

Review: This company uses deceptive business practices to lure people into ongoing charges when the customer is attempting to pay for one-time use of the service. We were charged $0.47 and $0.48 for the two names that we looked up. We did not see any notification of ongoing charges in the fine print on the website. As a result, we have been taken for $24.95 per month before someone caught it. We believe that this company knowingly deceives people into signing up for ongoing memberships when they only want to use the service once. They may claim that they disclosed this, but even if this is true, the fine print is very different than the page on which the purchase is actually made. The page where the purchase is actually made shows a nominal charge for each inquiry, without clarifying that there will be ongoing charges. This will obviously lead to unintentional sign-ups for a service that will never be used, as in our case.Desired Settlement: I would like all membership charges to be credited back to my credit card account. I would also like them to change their website so that there is an opportunity to opt out immediately. I would like them to send a notice in advance to alert consumers of upcoming charges.

Business

Response:

An email is sent to customers notifying them of the membership renewal each month. One can cancel the membership at any time online by logging into their account and canceling their membership. Per the Terms of Use previous months billings are not refundable. However, we will refund the most current billing of $24.95. There will be no further renewals.

Review: I signed up for this site in Oct 2014 and canceled in Nov 2014. I just notified that they have continuously billed me since then at a rate of $24.95 even after the credit card on file expired. Somehow they obtained the latest expiration date and continued to bill. Their customer service representative "[redacted]" was rude, dismissive and hung up on me while I was trying to understand how this information was obtained. I don't know what their practice is in handling cancellations, but I couldn't get a decent answer out of their customer service.Desired Settlement: Refund at least 1 year of the $24.95 monthly fees that I was charged after canceling in Nov 2014.

Business

Response:

When the customer called they were issued one refund. We are now giving 3 more refunds. Totaling $99.80. Per the Terms of Use any previous months are not refundable. Our records do not show the customer cancelling their membership before 03/08/16. There will be no further billings.

Company is total scam. They charge you 95 cents for initial search which is fair. Then in the small print you are automatically enrolled into a monthly fee of $24.95. The $24.95 is non refundable charge. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE.

This company is terrible. They charged me for auto renewal that was non refundable. There was nothing stating that on their website when I signed up. When I called to cancel and request a refund, the customer rep was very rude and said this is typical company policy and then she just hung up on me.

Peoplefinder advertises that marriage and divorce searches are covered. The problem is that only certain states (7 - 10) have that information available. I checked my own and the same date was given for the marriage and the divorce and my information is readily available. Checked my Dad 's name and only two of my brothers showed up. My name, my wife and children weren't even there?

So how is this even accurate? Paid for six months because it was the cheapest, but now have serious doubts if any of the searches are any good....don't waste your money if you want any more than an age and address, which may or may not be correct.

This company does not deliver on what it advertises. The searches I've done yield no results. I called to request a refund and she kept repeating that I did not cancel when I only signed up for a one-time search. When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was told that he/she was on a call and that I'll be transferred to the voicemail but instead she rudely hangs up on me after stating that my subscription has been canceled. Called again to request a supervisor, again I was told that he/she was busy and she'll send me to the voicemail. How odd that the supervisor never seems to be available and there isn't a queue to wait to speak to this supervisor.

BEWARE of this company and DO NOT purchase their product. It is clear now that it's a scam for monetary gain without consideration for their dissatisfied customers.

Review: I used their service one time to find an address for a one time fee. They charged my card every month 24.95 since nov of 2012. Would only rebate $95

I used their service to look up address in November of 2012. I talked to an agent at that time on the phone and specifically told him I wanted a one time fee and not a monthly subsciption. He assured me he would take care of it. They have been charging my credit card since November of 2012 24.95/ mo. Or $374.45. I got on the line with them and my credit card company and they will only rebate me $95. They would not provide any information as to how I signed up for monthly fee. Desired Settlement: $274.45 credit to my card.

Initial Business Response

We have reviewed our files and our records show that an order for a search was conducted by [redacted] on 11/2/2012. At that time Mr. [redacted] had a choice to accept a special discounted price available with a monthly membership or the full price for the search without membership. The membership option was affirmatively selected by [redacted] on 11/2/2012. That membership provided a three day trial to try our services. Our membership service provides unlimited searches and other features for a monthly fee. This is clearly and conspicuously disclosed on the initial order selection page. Then the consumer is provided with an entire page outlining the terms of the membership which clearly and conspicuously states that after the initial trial, unless the consumer cancels the service the service will continue monthly and the card they provided will be charged until they tell us to cancel their membership to avoid future charges. The membership is mentioned no less than three times on three pages before the order is complete.

Given that members can conduct unlimited searches for a monthly membership fee our terms do not allow for any refunds and simply allow members to cancel anytime to avoid future charges. For the period of his membership Mr. [redacted] was charged each month. During that time, our customer service was available to take her cancellation at any time. If his intention was to run only one search, then he had in fact selected the wrong product.

He failed to contact us to cancel until a phone call to a representative eleven months after the membership had been activated. Per his phone request, and as a onetime courtesy, we agreed to refund four charges at $24.95 each. In conclusion, [redacted] has received credits for four months of service totaling $99.80, his account is closed and there will be no further automatic billing.

Final Consumer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)

I accept their refund as I only used one address. I did talk to a representative on the phone while I processed the transaction. He advised me and assured me there would be only one charge. Peoplefinder has not metioned that their research probably found that I only used their service once. I never signed on again. The advice I received from their representative was wrong. Their representative is in error here not me.

Final Business Response

We have reviewed our records and found that on 9/10/2013 we refunded four charges of $24.95 each as promised. We show that chargebacks were issued on these four charges despite the fact that we agreed to refund them. This means that Mr. [redacted] has received double refunds; four refunds on 9/10/2013 from us and the same four transactions refunded again on 9/14/2013 from his bank. Because of this our account was debited twice for his refunds. We will be contacting his bank to remedy this issue. We have researched his registration process and found that [redacted] did not register from our IP address through a representative over the phone but registered from his IP address. We apologize for any misunderstanding but before entering billing info members are presented with a full page disclosure explaining you are signing up for a membership. He would have seen this on his own computer screen. We would be happy to avoid this type of confusion going forward by refunding the remaining in the future by refunding five 2013 membership fees at $24.95 each. Mr. [redacted] must allow these refunds TO POST to his account and not dispute them through his credit card company. Again, he must NOT do a chargeback with his credit card company or we will need to reverse these refunds as we have had to do for the previous batch from 9/10/2013. The two charges for his membership that took place in 2012 are non-refundable. In conclusion, the total refunds we are processing today are nine transactions of $24.95 each totaling $224.55.

Review: Deceptive business practices. You purchase a search ($9 and change) on their site, and in the process you inadvertently and unknowingly, are signed up for a monthly recurring charge of $24.99. I used the service 10-27-2014, was then charged $24.99 on 11-4, got my statement 12-8, noticed the charge and contacted them. They immediately credited the account, however, my account had already been charged another $24.99 on 12-4, and they refused to reverse the first charge. When I discovered this first charge, I went to their site. Checked 'my account', it said I was not set up for recurring charges, but yet on the same page it said I would be continued to be charged for renewal of my account unless I contacted customer care. Which way is it?Unethical, period!Desired Settlement: Refund of both 11-4 and 12-4 charges of $24.99. They have already agreed to refund the 12-4 charge. They should also be shamed into changing their unethical and misleading business practice.

Business

Response:

The charge of $24.99 is for PeopleFinders Rewards program. This program allows you to receive discounted prices on the many of the reports offered on our website. This extra service is presented to our customers through a full-page offer directly after checkout. Users may either accept or decline the offer. Our records show that on 10/27/2014 you affirmatively selected to enroll by choosing "Yes, sign me up for PeopleFinders Rewards" instead of declining the offer directly below. PeopleFinders Rewards members also have access to-* Free self-background checks every month* Free family safety alerts show registered sex offenders in your neighborhoodWe did not receive notification that you wished to cancel this within your 7 day trial period, therefore you were billed $24.99 on the eighth day, and for every month thereafter. Per your emailed request on 12/9/2014, and as a onetime courtesy, we have refunded one charge of $24.99 for the most recent month of membership. The remaining November membership fee will remain on your account per the Terms you agreed to.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: I did not sign up for a rewards program. And by their own admission, it must not have been something they offered up front and straightforward. I did not cancel within 7 days because I did not know I had signed up for it. No e-mail confirmation, nothing. No notice that I had been charged. Nothing. No notice when the 2nd charge was made a month later. I did not know either charge had been made until receiving my monthly statement on 12-9, at which time I acted immediately and discovered both charges. While they have refunded one charge, they should refund both.

Consumer

Response:

Customer states: The company has sent me notice of the December refund and I will await for November's refund as well. If they do not follow through I will call back.

Business

Response:

We have closed your account entirely and have refunded the $24.99 November Membership fee. Please allow 2 to 5 business days for this additional refund to appear on your statement. Understand that you will no longer be eligible for any further exceptions to the Terms you agree to on PeopleFinders.com.

Review: Very deceptive and unethical. Advertises a low one time use charge then automatically sets up an account to bill your credit card each month for a recurring $24.95. Then does not provide a clear way to stop the "membership". Customer Care Center does not care. Could be a useful legitimate business but chooses to be deceptive.Desired Settlement: Refund for $24.95 for July billing and $24.95 for August billing to my credit card.

Review: I went onto PeopleFinders.com to find information on my mother, which was incorrect. They went and charged me three different times. Review: I never used peoplefinder and they somehow charged by bank card two days in a row. Each charge was 50.94.

Peoplefinder somehow obtained by credit card information and charged my bank card two days in a row. Each charge was $50.94. I never used their website nor used their services in anyway. I contacted my bank who is in the process of trying to credit back the money to my account and find out what happened.

In the mean time I need to obtain new bank cards and will have to update this new information with anyone I have authorized to do automatic withdrawls.

Thankfully this did not mess up my account and cause me to over draw. But, I think that this amount of money unexpectedly being stolen from your account could have really caused a lot of problems for a lot of people.

In my eyes peoplefinder are outright thieves and if I can press legal charges I will.Desired Settlement: I think the business should have to refund all charges that were placed on my account and any other charges that will be incurred; such as replacement card fees or late fees due to the fact that my old card number is now no longer valid.

I also think that peoplefinder should have to pay something for all of the time and effort put forth on my part because they stole from me.

Review: I signed up once, was having problem accessing, and mistakenly signed up again. Then still had trouble, signed up with a different credit card and email account. Two years later, I'm being billed for 3 accounts, for $1800 total. I have a bookkeeper take care of my bills and did not realize the automatic billing was taking place. I never used any of the accounts beyond the initial search. When I asked for a refund, I was told the fine print that I agreed to at the beginning set it all up. While I'm sure they are legally correct, I think this is an unscrupulous practice because they never contact you when two accounts are on the same email, or when they're renewing, or when you haven't used the service. They should be forced to make their practices transparent to unsuspecting customers.Desired Settlement: I would like my money refunded. They have agreed to refund $300. I think at least one year's worth of billing should be refunded.

Business

Response:

First and foremost, customers are only allowed one account per email address and credit card. This helps to avoid confusion and helps prevent the same person from signing up for multiple accounts. Customer's are informed about our products throughout the checkout process. Automatic renewals are explained clearly and concisely in standard text on every page of checkout. When shopping online, it is the customer's responsibility to read and understand what is being purchased. PeopleFinders.com does not monitor the usage of any membership and simply supplies members with the ability to run unlimited searches. It is the customer's responsibility to cancel any memberships they no longer use or want.

We have reviewed our files and our records show an order for a monthly membership ($24.95) was processed by this customer on 4/12/2012. The name and email provided on this complaint were used to create this account. It was created using an American Express credit card. Then, on 5/26/2012, we show a separate purchase being made under an entirely separate name and email address. This other account was created using a Visa credit card. This other user selected our monthly membership as well. In addition to the monthly PeopleFinders membership, this other user affirmatively selected to enroll in the PeopleFidners Rewards program. This account (under a different person's name and information) had two memberships selected on 5/26/2012.

Our customer service was available to take a cancellation at any time from either of these two users. They failed to contact us to cancel membership until a phone call from this customer to a representative on 3/25/2014, 11 months after the memberships had been initiated. These charges are normally non-refundable per our Terms of Use. As a courtesy, we have refunded four charges of $24.95 to the American Express credit card, four charges of $24.95 to the Visa card, and four charges of $24.99 to the Visa card. There are no further refunds available due to the Terms agreed to and amount of time that has passed since the charges occurred.
