Peoplefinders.com Reviews (932)

I just cancelled my account well before the full month as I've discovered the service to be absolutely useless. The only address the site was able to secure for me (upon receiving my secured payment) was very my own. Good for them that I provided my info. willingly, anyway. Do not waste your money.

I paid for the initial trial and a report ....after logging in I tried to access the report .....lol....what a scam ...the site just loops back to a home page showing that I paid for a report , thats it ,nothing else ....[redacted] ....so Im out 20.00 ...lesson learned.....do not use this [redacted]......

Review: There are several problems here, I will focus on 2. First on the peoplefinders.com website, I enter a query, such as telephone number, to look up information regarding the owner. When I entered the query, the site tells me "yes" we do in fact have the owner's name that you are looking for, but you must first pay or sign up for membership. When I sign up and pay the money, I get a report that says that they do not have the owner information. They took payment for information that they claimed to have and in fact did not have the information. No refund.Second, after the report failed, I clicked through the cancellation process, thinking I have cancelled the account. 7 days later, I was billed for the full membership. I contacted the support and clicked through the cancellation process again, yet, my membership still showed active. I clicked through a third time and this time it takes me to a cancellation form to fill out. This time it did cancel my membership, but in total it cost me more $.95 for the misinformation and $19.99 for the membership that did not cancel. The support team of this provider is very quick to respond but completely uninterested in correcting the problem.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund, and I would suggest that the operator review their data set and cancellation process. Either the cancellation process does not work 100% of the time, or the cancellation buttons are designed to confuse and fool a user into not properly cancelling until completion.

Consumer

Response:

Hello. Shortly after having sent the complaint to you, the company moved forward with a full refund. I wish to modify this and add their resolution action.

Review: After speaking with the customer service before purchasing the product, I was under the impression that their would be cell phone numbers available for some of the searches. Unfortunately, there were NO results with cell phone numbers out of 50 searches! I wasted hours of my time and $15 of money. And they would not do a refund. What a scam.Desired Settlement: I want my money back. Dishonest salesperson and false advertising. How many searches need to be done before getting an accurate result?

Business

Response:

We were not able to find an account using the e-mail address you supplied. We are sorry that you did not receive the results you were hoping for. When you order a report, our system searches through billions of public records and collects every piece of relevant information. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf, not to return a specific result. Please review the Terms of Use on PeopleFinders.com if you would like more information about refunds or other policies.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:the he email address associated with the account is [email protected]. Your product was Completly wirthless. And innacurate. I was finding the same phone numbers repeated for different searches- for different people. Not only was the info innacurate- there was not one helpful search for cell phone numbers out of 50+ searches! Not one. A scam. We want our money back.

We found your account under [redacted]. As a representative and a supervisor let you know over the phone on 4/20/2015, the charge of $14.95 is non-refundable per the Terms you agreed to and the extensive usage on your account. The automatic renewal of your membership is cancelled and there will be no automatic billing. Your membership will expire on 5/10/2015. Please review the Terms of Use on PeopleFinders.com if you would like more information about refunds or other policies.

Review: I did a reverse phone look up it says that you get the full name address of annyoing callers so I tried it. all the gave me was the name my caller id does that and now they say they cant refund the 6.95Desired Settlement: I just want my refund thank you

Review: I signed up for this site in Oct 2014 and canceled in Nov 2014. I just notified that they have continuously billed me since then at a rate of $24.95 even after the credit card on file expired. Somehow they obtained the latest expiration date and continued to bill. Their customer service representative "[redacted]" was rude, dismissive and hung up on me while I was trying to understand how this information was obtained. I don't know what their practice is in handling cancellations, but I couldn't get a decent answer out of their customer service.Desired Settlement: Refund at least 1 year of the $24.95 monthly fees that I was charged after canceling in Nov 2014.

Business

Response:

When the customer called they were issued one refund. We are now giving 3 more refunds. Totaling $99.80. Per the Terms of Use any previous months are not refundable. Our records do not show the customer cancelling their membership before 03/08/16. There will be no further billings.

Review: PeopleFinders states that they will report marriages and divorce and only listed 4 states in which the person never lived.

PeopleFinders states that they will report marriages and divorces. They did not check the states in which the person actually lived. They did not list the correct value of property.I will be able to prove that this information is available if the company had done a comprehensive search. They did not list the current phone number of the person who was searched. The advertisement of the "Comprehensive Background Search" is misleading. Desired Settlement: I would like all my money refunded.

Thank you.

Initial Business Response

Please review the Terms of Use on PeopleFinders.com if you would like more information about refunds or other policies. Our records show that per your request over the phone on 10/7/2013, and as a one time courtesy, a refund of $49.95 was granted. This amount will be shown on your credit card statement within five business days. When you order a report, our system searches through billions of public records and collects every piece of relevant information. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf, not to return a specific result. Unfortunately, we do not have access to information about marriages and divorces in every state. Several states do not post that information online, so our system is unable to retrieve those records. To obtain records from states that are not listed below, you may contact the county office where the marriage or divorce was filed.

Final Consumer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

It is misleading advertising to call your report "Comprehensive Background Check". Only 5 states were search for marriages and divorce, none of which the person ever lived. In fact, information on the person's divorce is currently listed on Google and is public information. Therefore I assert that your report is not close to being "Comprehenive".

Final Business Response

We have received your correspondence. However, we were not clear on your concern. We have granted a refund of $49.95 as a courtesy and as a one time exception to the Terms you agreed to. It is the customer's responsibility to read and understand what they are purchasing and agreeing to when shopping online. Our records indicate that you have already been assisted with this matter.

Review: The site allows you to do a search on a name, then it assures you that it can provide the person's current address. "Current address available" is what it says on the left sidebar. Then it makes you pay to get it, and you find out the address is not current at all. This business should be forced to change the words "current address available" to "last known address available" because they cannot guarantee the address is "current". This is false advertising.Desired Settlement: I want them to stop using the words "current address available" on the site, and refund my money.

Business

Response:

Although PeopleFinders provides public records, we do not create or modify them in any way. We are only able to display the most current information provided in each record, so we cannot guarantee their accuracy. New public records are created every day, so PeopleFinders is always able to offer the most up-to-date and accurate information possible; however, this information must be publicly reported by the person. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf, not to return a specific result. Please review the Terms of Use on PeopleFinders.com if you would like more information about refunds or our other policies. The free courtesy search will remain on your account until it is used. You may elect to have that free exchange search ran at any time by calling our Customer Care department.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:Your website specifically stated that the person's current address was available. It is the ONLY reason I decided to pay the fee to see it. If it had said "last known address" I would not have paid to see it.

Review: website claims that a phone search could yield name and address of person who owns phone. After paying 4.95 I get the same information.

I paid by credit card and asked for a refund in which I was refused. I was robbed and want my refund. I paid on 8-31-2013 at 2:36 AM

Thank You,

Initial Business Response

We are sorry that you did not receive the results you were hoping for. When you order a report, our system searches through billions of public records and collects every piece of relevant information. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf, not to return a specific result. As stated on the site, addresses for Reverse Phone Reports are included when available. The phone number you requested does not have an address available. Please review the Terms of Use on PeopleFinders.com if you would like more information about refunds or other policies.

Final Consumer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

Regardless of what the policies are and how many records your magnificent database searched through. The bottom line is, I did not receive any other information other than the information that was laid before me before I paid my $4.95. Any company with any moral decency would offer a refund to a customer who did not receive results from their search. Peoplefinders.com is obviously not people oriented. Beware of these crooks people and do not let them entice you into throwing away your money.

Final Business Response

We have reviewed the report you purchased. Caller ID can be changed with phone providers so that the person's name doesn't show up on caller ID. When the caller ID has been changed we only have access to the name it was changed to. Sometimes it can be a first name or last name only, or it can be a city and state. We found that the cell phone number you searched is registered under the name [redacted] This is probably because Telemarketers, debt collectors, and some businesses may choose to have a generic name show up on caller ID, such as city and state. This is the only publically reported information available for that cell phone. The charge is non-refundable.

This company does not deliver on what it advertises. The searches I've done yield no results. I called to request a refund and she kept repeating that I did not cancel when I only signed up for a one-time search. When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was told that he/she was on a call and that I'll be transferred to the voicemail but instead she rudely hangs up on me after stating that my subscription has been canceled. Called again to request a supervisor, again I was told that he/she was busy and she'll send me to the voicemail. How odd that the supervisor never seems to be available and there isn't a queue to wait to speak to this supervisor.

BEWARE of this company and DO NOT purchase their product. It is clear now that it's a scam for monetary gain without consideration for their dissatisfied customers.

Review: I never used peoplefinder and they somehow charged by bank card two days in a row. Each charge was 50.94.

Peoplefinder somehow obtained by credit card information and charged my bank card two days in a row. Each charge was $50.94. I never used their website nor used their services in anyway. I contacted my bank who is in the process of trying to credit back the money to my account and find out what happened.

In the mean time I need to obtain new bank cards and will have to update this new information with anyone I have authorized to do automatic withdrawls.

Thankfully this did not mess up my account and cause me to over draw. But, I think that this amount of money unexpectedly being stolen from your account could have really caused a lot of problems for a lot of people.

In my eyes peoplefinder are outright thieves and if I can press legal charges I will.Desired Settlement: I think the business should have to refund all charges that were placed on my account and any other charges that will be incurred; such as replacement card fees or late fees due to the fact that my old card number is now no longer valid.

I also think that peoplefinder should have to pay something for all of the time and effort put forth on my part because they stole from me.

Review: In an attempt to identify all of my past addresses for a clearance needed for volunteering at my daughters school, I signed up for what I thought was just a 3-day membership to this service. I used it for maybe 2 hours, collected the information I needed, and then was done. I just saw my card was charged an automatic renewal charge of $24.95, which I was not aware of when I signed up. The wording is questionable at best on the site. When I went to cancel, I was told they would cancel the membership, but that they would not refund me the $24.95. This is ludicrous and unacceptable. At best I should get a full refund. At worst, I should at least get a prorated refund for the balance of the term of the "subscription" (despite the fact that I haven't used the service beyond the original trial.Desired Settlement: At best I should get a full refund for the subscription I never intended to have. At worst, I should at least get a prorated refund for the balance of the term of the "subscription" (despite the fact that I haven't used the service beyond the original trial).

Business

Response:

Our website gives the customer two options when purchasing a People Search Report. They can purchase the report at full price , or at a discounted price with the 3 day Trial Membership. As the website states if the membership is not canceled within the trial period then the customer is billed the membership fee. Per the Terms of use months that have already been billed are not refundable. We've canceled the membership, there will be no further billings.

Review: Like so many people I paid $1.95 to do a search of a phone number and did not realize I was agreeing to a monthly membership. I have no idea where that information was when I was ordering the search. Of course I complained to the company and was not issued a refund. I never received notice or a receipt for the $24.95 that was subsequently charged to my credit card. This company should be ashamed of themselves for the way they are doing business! I will make it my mission to make as many people I can aware of this company and their shifty business operations.Desired Settlement: I would like the $24.95 that was charged to my debit card refunded.

Business

Response:

At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership. The trial membership is clearly and conspicuously

disclosed on the initial order selection page.

Then the consumer is provided with an entire section outlining the terms of

the membership which clearly and conspicuously states that after the initial

trial, unless the consumer cancels the service the service will continue

monthly and the card they provided will be charged until they tell us to cancel

their membership to avoid future charges.

The membership is mentioned no less than two times

before the order is complete.

Given that members can conduct unlimited searches for

a monthly membership fee our terms do not allow for any refunds and simply

allow members to cancel anytime to avoid future charges. Our records show that you have cancelled the automatic renewal of your membership through your online Account Manager on 9/13/2014.

Review: I went on to pay my Classmates.com subscription and my wife tells me peoplefinders has taken $12.45 out of our account which I didn't order. It must have been a box I needed to uncheck. I didn't see one. I called to explain what happened, That I never even went on the website. They cancelled it, but said they were keeping my money.Desired Settlement: I would like my $12.45 back.

Business

Response:

We have reviewed our files and found that this customer signed up for PeopleFinders.com through a full-page offer during checkout on Classmates.com. We have attached a screenshot of the offer here. Our records show that the card information was entered again and the purchase was made for a month of our service at $12.45. The charge is non-refundable per the Terms of this purchase. We received your cancellation on 9/23/2015 over the phone, which is within the first 30 days. Therefore; you will not be billed the monthly membership fee of $24.95. Your membership will expire on 10/22/2015, you can enjoy all the benefits of membership until then and there will be no further billing.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: I just wanted to sign up for classmates. I'm a newbie on the computer. I haven't even been on the site.

Business

Response:

We feel we have already explained the order process, the product ordered and the refund policy. The charge remains non-refundable.

Review: A few months ago I signed up to order one report for $1.95 which was SUPPOSED to be a one time fee because I opted NOT to pay the 0.95 for report with trial. When I called now and spoke to the representative [redacted] by the name of [redacted], she claims I checked off that I not only wanted to pay $1 more for my one time report, but that I checked off I wanted the 24.95 trial, which is absolute [redacted]---!! She then offered me a one time "COURTESY" credit, as if she was doing me a favor.! I just decided to look through my transactions today for the past 90 some days and there are three charges! I m furious...I asked to speak to a manager by the name of [redacted],and she also offered me a one time credit claiming I accepted the trial after paying more than a $0.95.. I explained that I never did that, and she begged to differ because "she saw it on her screen"...and I continued to explain calmly..why would I pay $1 more that the advertisement just to prove to her, I DID NOT OPT INTO A TRIAL!! Their fees monthly fees took my account over my credit limit and I was charged another fee on top of that. I am already struggling and dealing with this for the last two hours, really frustrates me.Desired Settlement: I need all my money back

Business

Response:

Please review the attached full-page offer presented to this user directly after the $1.95 checkout was completed on 6/30/2015. While we now understand from the phone calls and this complaint that it was not this user's intent to enroll at the time, our records show the enrollment option was affirmatively selected by the user on 6/30/2015. Therefore they were billed for the Membership each month thereafter. Per their request over the phone on 9/11/2015 the account was closed and one refund of $24.95 was issued for the most current month of membership, as a courtesy. We have found that, even given this, they have contacted their bank or Credit Card Company and filed a dispute for all charges (even the refunded transaction). Due to a dispute, customers are given a conditional refund by the bank; therefore we will have to negate the one refund that was issued and no further refunds will be processed. This customer will have to allow time for the financial institution to review the charges for validity. We will comply and provide information on the product selected by the customer to the bank or Credit Card Company. Usually this process will take a few billing cycles and they will notify the customer of the outcome via mail. You will now need to follow their policies and procedures regarding the decision that is ultimately made.

Peoplefinder advertises that marriage and divorce searches are covered. The problem is that only certain states (7 - 10) have that information available. I checked my own and the same date was given for the marriage and the divorce and my information is readily available. Checked my Dad 's name and only two of my brothers showed up. My name, my wife and children weren't even there?

So how is this even accurate? Paid for six months because it was the cheapest, but now have serious doubts if any of the searches are any good....don't waste your money if you want any more than an age and address, which may or may not be correct.

This company is terrible. They charged me for auto renewal that was non refundable. There was nothing stating that on their website when I signed up. When I called to cancel and request a refund, the customer rep was very rude and said this is typical company policy and then she just hung up on me.

Review: I signed up for people finders.com [redacted] so this is the address on the website, but when I went to file a complaint it didn't show up. My complaint is that I signed up only due to they offered a 3 day trial on free report and if cancelled in three days they would ONLY bill $ 2.95 cent, but this was deceptive because they billed me almost $ 20.00 for a report with erroneous information in it that I wasn't able to use, for myself. I complained immediately the next day and left a message with the Supervisor line, and it's been three days but still not a call back. I complained but they refuse to return my money on my credit card. Please investigate this fraudulent service. The charge would have been fine, if I had been aware but they make it seem as though you can try service on 3 day trial and cancel and only be billed for $ 2.95, but it's misleading because they bill you for a report with many errors the information is completely unreliable and its a SCAM.Desired Settlement: Call from supervisor and refund only to be billed the $ 2.95 as stated.

Business

Response:

We have reviewed your account and found that on 6/29/2015 instead of purchasing a single Background Report at $39.95 you chose to recieve a Background Report at a discounted price of $19.95. The reason this product is discounted is because it comes with a three day trial membership. As stated, if cancelled within three days you will be billed $2.95 for the trial. If the trial is allowed to renew it would have renewed at $29.95 per month for the membership. Your original purchase of $19.95 is not affected. We received your cancellation oover the phone on 6/30/2015, within the three day trial period, therefore you were billed $2.95 for the trial on the fourth day. Again, the cancellationi does not negate your initial purchase of $19.95 for the Background Report. The charges are non-refundable per the Terms you agreed to on PeopleFinders.com.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: The terms weren't clearly explained at the beginning. The report has many errors and why am I paying for an incorrect report?

Review: My Wife used this service to look up someone on her i-phone. She entered her credit card info because she was under the impression she was paying 95 cents for the service. She was completely unaware on the terms that were too small to read on the i-phone that there was another $24.95 monthly fee that was going to start if she didn't cancel her membership after three days. She obviously never used the service and when we saw the charge on the credit card we called to cancel the service, but they were unwilling to refund the $24.95 because they said she agreed to those terms when she signed up. This is a clear bait and switch tactic on this company.Desired Settlement: Because this service was never used and my wife was completely unaware of the additional fee with the small print, it is only good business to refund the $24.95.

Business

Response:

At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price ($0.95) for signing up for a 3 day free trial to our Membership. The $1.95 price for one report is directly below. This membership allowed you to receive an unlimited number of:

•People Searches – Get the facts you need to find anyone, anywhere

•Email Searches – Obtain email addresses, or learn about the owner of any address

•Social Profile Searches – See updates on all of your friend’s social profiles in one spot

•Marriage Searches – Find out if a man or woman has ever been married

•Divorce Searches – Check the divorce status of any man or woman

•Property Searches – Learn about any piece of property, including the current owner and value

You had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone.

We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this membership until 1/23/2014. The 3 day trial had ended on 1/15/2014; therefore, you were billed $24.95 on the fourth day.

Per your request here and as a onetime courtesy, we will grant the refund of $24.95 for one month. Please allow 2-5 business days for the refund to process back into your credit or debit card.

Company is total scam. They charge you 95 cents for initial search which is fair. Then in the small print you are automatically enrolled into a monthly fee of $24.95. The $24.95 is non refundable charge. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE.
