Review: My Wife used this service to look up someone on her i-phone. She entered her credit card info because she was under the impression she was paying 95 cents for the service. She was completely unaware on the terms that were too small to read on the i-phone that there was another $24.95 monthly fee that was going to start if she didn't cancel her membership after three days. She obviously never used the service and when we saw the charge on the credit card we called to cancel the service, but they were unwilling to refund the $24.95 because they said she agreed to those terms when she signed up. This is a clear bait and switch tactic on this company.Desired Settlement: Because this service was never used and my wife was completely unaware of the additional fee with the small print, it is only good business to refund the $24.95.

Response:

At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price ($0.95) for signing up for a 3 day free trial to our Membership. The $1.95 price for one report is directly below. This membership allowed you to receive an unlimited number of:

•People Searches – Get the facts you need to find anyone, anywhere

•Email Searches – Obtain email addresses, or learn about the owner of any address

•Social Profile Searches – See updates on all of your friend’s social profiles in one spot

•Marriage Searches – Find out if a man or woman has ever been married

•Divorce Searches – Check the divorce status of any man or woman

•Property Searches – Learn about any piece of property, including the current owner and value

You had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone.

We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this membership until 1/23/2014. The 3 day trial had ended on 1/15/2014; therefore, you were billed $24.95 on the fourth day.

Per your request here and as a onetime courtesy, we will grant the refund of $24.95 for one month. Please allow 2-5 business days for the refund to process back into your credit or debit card.

Review: Like so many people I paid $1.95 to do a search of a phone number and did not realize I was agreeing to a monthly membership. I have no idea where that information was when I was ordering the search. Of course I complained to the company and was not issued a refund. I never received notice or a receipt for the $24.95 that was subsequently charged to my credit card. This company should be ashamed of themselves for the way they are doing business! I will make it my mission to make as many people I can aware of this company and their shifty business operations.Desired Settlement: I would like the $24.95 that was charged to my debit card refunded.

Response:

At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership. The trial membership is clearly and conspicuously

disclosed on the initial order selection page.

Then the consumer is provided with an entire section outlining the terms of

the membership which clearly and conspicuously states that after the initial

trial, unless the consumer cancels the service the service will continue

monthly and the card they provided will be charged until they tell us to cancel

their membership to avoid future charges.

The membership is mentioned no less than two times

before the order is complete.

Given that members can conduct unlimited searches for

a monthly membership fee our terms do not allow for any refunds and simply

allow members to cancel anytime to avoid future charges. Our records show that you have cancelled the automatic renewal of your membership through your online Account Manager on 9/13/2014.

Review: I paid the $19.95 for a 3 Day Background Check Membership Trial. I contacted customer service to ask the representative to refund the charges because they didn't deliver what they advertised. The report just had basic information such as name, Address and phone number. When you click on the background check tab, it just said not found. First I spoke to a representative and she said that I should have read the terms of use that explicitly states"they do not represent or warrant that the results provided will be 100% accurate and up to date". This TERMS OF SERVISE are nowhere to be found on their main page or second page or third page and what's worst, they advertise with BOLD LETTERS: Why Use People Search?Obtain a current address and phone numberReconnect with someone from your pastVerify a person's addressFind out who a phone number belongs toPerform a background checkPeoplefinders.com provides services that are misleading. They provided me with old address and phone information and no background check! I also spoke to the Supervisor [redacted] and she pretty much said that's how they do businesses, and that if people don't update their information, pretty much it's not their problem. I am requesting my money be refunded in FULL. My membership service was only 30 minutes, and I cancelled online when I realized PeopleFinders is another way to scam people. I will be following up with a letter to [redacted] to express my disappointment on this website and its services.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund to my credit card for the full amount.

Our Terms of Use is available through a link at the bottom of the website. Additionally, customers are required to check a box during checkout that states "Yes, I agree to the PeopleFinders offer terms, Privacy Policy, and Terms of Use." these are hyperlinked to the appropriate pages for review. We have included the URL below. http://www.peoplefinders.com/terms.aspx We are sorry that you did not receive the results you were hoping for. When you order a report, our system searches through billions of public records and collects every piece of relevant information. PeopleFinders pays for access to this data, so the charge is for us to conduct a search on your behalf, not to return a specific result. Please review the Terms of Use on PeopleFinders.com if you would like more information about refunds or other policies.

Review: Peoplefinders automatically enrolled me and charged me on 12/1 and 1/1 $24.95 for a service that I never signed up for. I attempted to make a single search for a reverse phone number (the search was worthless) which I thought I had agreed to pay less than a $1 for. Instead, I was charged $24.95 for two months before I saw it on the first bill note that the 12/1 payment did not show up on my credit card until the period 12/3 - 1/2, so I suspect that they backdated the bill. After getting the bill today (1/6), I immediately called people finders and was told that they would remove me from the list but that they would not refund me the money. In short, this is a total scam.Thank you for your response.[redacted]Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded the two months payments (2 x 24.95 = 49.90).

Response:

PeopleFinders.com is a self-service website. Nothing is pre-selected or pre-checked. At the time of purchase you had the option to choose a regular priced Reverse Phone Report for $9.95 or the same product at a discounted price of $0.95 with a Trial Membership. Our records show the membership option was affirmitively selected by you on 11/27/2014. You had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone. We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. The 3 day trial has ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee on the fourth day, and for every month thereafter. Per your this complaint and as a onetime courtesy, we will grant one refund of $24.95 for the most current month of membership. Please allow 2-5 business days for the refund to process back into your credit or debit card. The remaining membership fee is non-refundable per the Terms you agreed to.

Review: I signed up for people finders.com [redacted] so this is the address on the website, but when I went to file a complaint it didn't show up. My complaint is that I signed up only due to they offered a 3 day trial on free report and if cancelled in three days they would ONLY bill $ 2.95 cent, but this was deceptive because they billed me almost $ 20.00 for a report with erroneous information in it that I wasn't able to use, for myself. I complained immediately the next day and left a message with the Supervisor line, and it's been three days but still not a call back. I complained but they refuse to return my money on my credit card. Please investigate this fraudulent service. The charge would have been fine, if I had been aware but they make it seem as though you can try service on 3 day trial and cancel and only be billed for $ 2.95, but it's misleading because they bill you for a report with many errors the information is completely unreliable and its a SCAM.Desired Settlement: Call from supervisor and refund only to be billed the $ 2.95 as stated.

Business

Response:

We have reviewed your account and found that on 6/29/2015 instead of purchasing a single Background Report at $39.95 you chose to recieve a Background Report at a discounted price of $19.95. The reason this product is discounted is because it comes with a three day trial membership. As stated, if cancelled within three days you will be billed $2.95 for the trial. If the trial is allowed to renew it would have renewed at $29.95 per month for the membership. Your original purchase of $19.95 is not affected. We received your cancellation oover the phone on 6/30/2015, within the three day trial period, therefore you were billed $2.95 for the trial on the fourth day. Again, the cancellationi does not negate your initial purchase of $19.95 for the Background Report. The charges are non-refundable per the Terms you agreed to on PeopleFinders.com.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: The terms weren't clearly explained at the beginning. The report has many errors and why am I paying for an incorrect report?

Review: A few months ago I signed up to order one report for $1.95 which was SUPPOSED to be a one time fee because I opted NOT to pay the 0.95 for report with trial. When I called now and spoke to the representative [redacted] by the name of [redacted], she claims I checked off that I not only wanted to pay $1 more for my one time report, but that I checked off I wanted the 24.95 trial, which is absolute [redacted]---!! She then offered me a one time "COURTESY" credit, as if she was doing me a favor.! I just decided to look through my transactions today for the past 90 some days and there are three charges! I m furious...I asked to speak to a manager by the name of [redacted],and she also offered me a one time credit claiming I accepted the trial after paying more than a $0.95.. I explained that I never did that, and she begged to differ because "she saw it on her screen"...and I continued to explain calmly..why would I pay $1 more that the advertisement just to prove to her, I DID NOT OPT INTO A TRIAL!! Their fees monthly fees took my account over my credit limit and I was charged another fee on top of that. I am already struggling and dealing with this for the last two hours, really frustrates me.Desired Settlement: I need all my money back

Response:

Please review the attached full-page offer presented to this user directly after the $1.95 checkout was completed on 6/30/2015. While we now understand from the phone calls and this complaint that it was not this user's intent to enroll at the time, our records show the enrollment option was affirmatively selected by the user on 6/30/2015. Therefore they were billed for the Membership each month thereafter. Per their request over the phone on 9/11/2015 the account was closed and one refund of $24.95 was issued for the most current month of membership, as a courtesy. We have found that, even given this, they have contacted their bank or Credit Card Company and filed a dispute for all charges (even the refunded transaction). Due to a dispute, customers are given a conditional refund by the bank; therefore we will have to negate the one refund that was issued and no further refunds will be processed. This customer will have to allow time for the financial institution to review the charges for validity. We will comply and provide information on the product selected by the customer to the bank or Credit Card Company. Usually this process will take a few billing cycles and they will notify the customer of the outcome via mail. You will now need to follow their policies and procedures regarding the decision that is ultimately made.

Review: I went on to pay my Classmates.com subscription and my wife tells me peoplefinders has taken $12.45 out of our account which I didn't order. It must have been a box I needed to uncheck. I didn't see one. I called to explain what happened, That I never even went on the website. They cancelled it, but said they were keeping my money.Desired Settlement: I would like my $12.45 back.

Business

Response:

We have reviewed our files and found that this customer signed up for PeopleFinders.com through a full-page offer during checkout on Classmates.com. We have attached a screenshot of the offer here. Our records show that the card information was entered again and the purchase was made for a month of our service at $12.45. The charge is non-refundable per the Terms of this purchase. We received your cancellation on 9/23/2015 over the phone, which is within the first 30 days. Therefore; you will not be billed the monthly membership fee of $24.95. Your membership will expire on 10/22/2015, you can enjoy all the benefits of membership until then and there will be no further billing.

Review: In an attempt to identify all of my past addresses for a clearance needed for volunteering at my daughters school, I signed up for what I thought was just a 3-day membership to this service. I used it for maybe 2 hours, collected the information I needed, and then was done. I just saw my card was charged an automatic renewal charge of $24.95, which I was not aware of when I signed up. The wording is questionable at best on the site. When I went to cancel, I was told they would cancel the membership, but that they would not refund me the $24.95. This is ludicrous and unacceptable. At best I should get a full refund. At worst, I should at least get a prorated refund for the balance of the term of the "subscription" (despite the fact that I haven't used the service beyond the original trial.Desired Settlement: At best I should get a full refund for the subscription I never intended to have. At worst, I should at least get a prorated refund for the balance of the term of the "subscription" (despite the fact that I haven't used the service beyond the original trial).

Response:

Our website gives the customer two options when purchasing a People Search Report. They can purchase the report at full price , or at a discounted price with the 3 day Trial Membership. As the website states if the membership is not canceled within the trial period then the customer is billed the membership fee. Per the Terms of use months that have already been billed are not refundable. We've canceled the membership, there will be no further billings.

A Rip-off. You have to pay before finding out they have no useful information. I paid for a report that didn't have a date of death or criminal records and they searched for marriage licenses in states he didn't even live in. Why? They should at the very least let a person know what records they have (w/o showing info) before they pay and not just that they may have the records.

Just bad, no information that is useful and totally out of date. I did a background check on myself to see HOW bad.....Just no way that anyone should pay for this, no value, no information, and putting my company at risk. I am so sorry I did not check here before I spent $20..

I am not happy with my most recent experience with Peoplefinders.com I signed up for their promotional free trial offer at $19.95 for the first month with it being promoted to only have to pay $2.95 to cancel with in 3 days. I wasn't satisfied with the service and the information I got so I canceled and got charged both the $2.95 and the 19.95 fee and when I called to get this resolved the person on the phone was less than helpful. She told me the normal charge was close to $40 which you can't see on their site and because of that I wouldn't be refunded my money. This company is a scam stay far away!!!!!

This site is horrible. I thought I was doing a 2.00 search .. They billed me 20 ! And I received no new info . Do not click on anything on their site ! Rip off

Review: I have repeatedly asked that my information be removed from the site after instructions don't work to remove info.

I have been e-mailing the "Customer Service" of this company for many weeks now. I'm done with the "Try this" "Try That". I just want this resolved. I jumped through all the hoops and still nothing has been resolved. I just want this this information removed off their site. That's all. http://www.peoplefinders.com/d/[redacted]/X-XXXXXXXXXXDesired Settlement: I want them to please remove the information off their site. I tried to do it the way the instructions show and request. And it doesn't work.

Response:

Consumer states that they called and spoke with People Finders who stated that they would cancel the account.

Review: In January 2014 my 90 year old uncle asked me to find his great nephew. I went on Peoplefinders and did a one time search for the fee of .48 cents on my credit card. My card was billed January 23rd for .48 cents and .47 cents, and on January 27th billed for $24.95. I have been billed $24.95 monthly since that time (its now July). It was hard to find a phone number anywhere, but when I did, I called the "customer care" phone number (###-###-####) which was answered by a recording with instructions to go on-line and log into my account if I want to cancel. There is NO option to speak with a real person. Because this was originally a .48 cent one-time search back in January, and I never intended to use it again I did not make note of which email account I used nor did I save the password so I could not log in to cancel. So, unable to get a person on the phone, I called my credit card company and asked them to stop paying it because I did not sign up for more than a one time .48 cent search. The bank issued me a new card and charges were reversed. But then,Peoplefinders sent to the credit card company documentation. My credit card company wrote to me, "documentation lacks sufficient info to verify a billing error occurred." So they are back on the new card! But documentation did show the email account that I had used, so I clicked "forgot password", received my password, tried to "log in" to cancel, but now with my EVERY attempt to log in, I get the message, "unable to log you in at this time. Please contact Customer Care at ###-###-####." That is the number with the recording telling me to log-in if I want to cancel. Apparently, they have blacklisted my email knowing full well that I intend to cancel since I tried to cancel through the credit card. If I can't log in to cancel, and the phone is only a recording, what am I to do? THIS OUTFIT DOES NOT DESERVE a Revdex.com rating of A+. Read the complaints, all are the same. They are NOT reputable and not forthright.Desired Settlement: I want "my account" cancelled immediately, I want a refund. I want to see this company's sneaky smoke and mirror deceitful advertising site required to be transparent with costs and fees clearly stated. I want their web sites required to clearly provide a means to cancel, with a real person on the phone, by email, by US mail. I want to see Revdex.com remove the A+ rating.

At the time of purchase you chose to receive a discounted price for signing up for a 3 day trial to our Membership. You had the option to cancel this membership trial at anytime via your account manager on the website, via email, or via phone. Simply remain on the line as the auto attendant menu advises and a representative can assist you directly. We did not receive any notification that you wished to cancel this trial. Rather, the only activity on your account is your card company contacting us on 6/16/2014 regarding three membership fees. The 3 day trial had already ended; therefore, you were charged the membership fee on the fourth day, and for every month thereafter.

You have already contacted your bank or Credit Card Company regarding these charges therefore we cannot offer you any refunds. You will now need to follow their policies and procedures regarding these charges. We received notice of the dispute on 6/16/2014 so your account was completely closed and the information you used to register was blocked from our system. This is why you are unable to login.

In conclusion your account is closed, there will be no further automatic billing and your bank found the charges to be valid.

Review: 12/22/14 I became a victim of fraud and is assisting the police in finding out who did this. I found a phone number on my bank online statement and used a reverse search service to locate where this number originated. When I put in the number on this site (white pages), peoplefinders.com popped up and claimed to have the owner's address and the owners name for this number, and that I could have this information for $3.95. I paid the money via credit card and did not receive any additional information. I immediately called peoplefinders at ###-###-####, talked to [redacted] (employee ID # [redacted]) and after I explained that I wanted my money back for false advertising, she stated that she returned the money and sent an email to confirm. Due to becoming a fraud victim just today, I questioned just who this company is. [redacted] stated that it is irrelevant to give me their company information. I stated that I need to know because of what happened (fraud) and because I believe that false advertising is involved. [redacted] refused to give me the location for the company except to say that they are in California, I then asked for a supervisor. Supervisor [redacted] (employee ID [redacted]) came on the phone and did the same. She refused to give me location information for the company and when I asked why, she questioned why I needed to know, which I then explained again, that it is because I paid money for something I did not get and my trust level is high because of what happened.I am filing a deceptive advertising claim against peoplefinders.com. They did not provide the information that they stated they had, after I made my payment to them. The money was refunded, although it will take several days according to both employees but my question is, Why the deception and why will they not tell me the customer where they are located besides "California"Desired Settlement: I would like for consumers to know what they are getting into when they use this company: they may not get the information that they requested, and this is what happened to me. Thank goodness I only paid the one time fee and did not sign up for monthly service. This company should have their call center employees. say where the company is located. By not providing this information, the company does not seem legitimate and it was clearly false advertising.Thank you.

In an effort to discontinue charges, I will now have to block my card, and hopefully dispute the charges with my financial institution.Details:On 4/29/2013 I did a search on one person for a promotional charge of $0.95. I do not accept this response for the following reasons: 1- You. only explained one of the two charges. 2- I feel even the explained charge was hidden and unethical. 3- You have not offered a refund of $49.54.
